DETAILED INFORMATION [attr="class","box1"]APPEARANCE Summary » A silver spotted tabby with a missing right ear tip and amber eyes. This young tom's rounded ears seem constantly perked with interest. No matter what is happening around him, his ears swivel this way and that, catching any whisp of conversation or birdsong they possibly can. He has a strong, sturdy build and has filed out since kithood, his large paws finally seeming to fit his body comfortably. Even so, he still seems somewhat stocky, and at first glance it is difficult to understand why such a clumsily built tom would consider racing and running across the hillocks an enjoyable past-time. His attentive eyes are a pale golden-brown, like the yellow-orange leaves that drift to the forest floor when the cold season approaches. These same eyes are almond shaped and sit a natural distance apart on his small face. He has long, feathery, white whiskers that sprout from his muzzle beside a dark grey nose. His fur is short but not coarse, and when properly groomed it feels quite soft. His silver tabby pelt is speckled with darker grey spots, which marble handsomely against his light fur. Despite his stunning pelt, Birchspots is very insecure and sensitive about his appearance, mainly his muzzle and his physique. This young tom is missing the tip of his right ear, as it was bitten off by a loner in an unprovoked attack. The bite scars that gouge the scruff of his neck are from that same fight. PERSONALITY Birchspots is very dependent. He tends to lean on and rely on others to make important choices for him or to keep him safe. Alone in the wild, he would stand little chance and a stray dog or hungry fox would make quick work of him. He is passionately loyal to the Clan and to his clanmates, as he believes that he is meant to completely rely on them and they are meant to rely on him. His lack of independence has stayed with him ever since he was a kit, and was part of the reason that he has never been able to leave his Clan behind. He second guesses himself very often, usually resulting in some form of failure or slip-up. When confronted with danger, Birchspot's timid side appears. He is easily spooked and would sooner choose "flight" over "fight" in most cases. Birchspots is good at paying attention and tends to pick up skills and advice rather quickly. If he wants something done, he can usually accomplish it by focusing almost completely on said task. He is far from easily distracted, and genuinely tries the best he can. This reliable and focused attitude makes him a hard worker. Birchspots is forever selfless, concerned about the feelings and needs of other cats and is very perceptive to the emotions of others. This empathy makes him seem soft as a feather to other cats and it is usually assumed that Birchspots couldn't bring himself to kill a mouse. Birchspots is extremely generous. The young tom would give a clanmate the pelt off his back if he thought that's what they needed, and his endless generosity often ends with him having almost nothing himself. While perceptive of his emotions, he can't quite seem to get his own under control. Emotional outbursts are few in number but can occur due to things that other cats would deem unworthy of such attention. Birchspots is very bad at maintaining composure and will display how he feels in expressive, sometimes inappropriate ways. He is easily frightened, and though he has no problem battle training, would hesitate to harm a real cat. Sometimes he even expresses remorse for the prey that the Clans must kill to survive. Though Birchspots is fiercely loyal to his clanmates, he is very distrusting of those outside LightningClan and wary of strangers. At gatherings he is reserved, elusive and quiet. Though he isn't quite talkative at home either, he definitely retreats into his shell around strangers. He assumes that every cat outside LightningClan has ill will towards his Clan, even when they seem nice enough upon their first meeting. Birchspots rarely argues back unless extremely frustrated, which happens so little that you might think this little tom was very well-behaved. His passive nature makes it easy to push him around and he will often go along with whatever others tell him to do. This is because he hates conflict- whether it be conflict through tongues or claws. He tends to be serious, and though the occasional game isn't beyond him, he prefers to get things done instead. He tends to consider every option in front of him and think quite far ahead. This means that he is hesitant about making quick or hasty decisions. He is very self-doubting about his own ability to make the right choices too, which stretches this delay even further. Former romantic interest ▸ Pebbleshade [bio] HISTORY Unusual with LightningClan pairings, Birchspots's parents became mates simply because neither could outpace the other. His mother was one of the fastest hunters in the Clan, noted by many to be an impressive runner who could pace herself to chase down prey for long distances rather than taking them down in short bursts of speed. At the time, the tom who fathered him was the only warrior who she could not outrun, and it wasn't long before she was expecting his kits. Unusually, his mother didn't tell her kits which LightningClan warrior was their father, and explained that he was no longer fit to raise them. Why she did this is unclear, but it is possible that she regretted having kits with a tom she barely knew and wished that she had chosen a mate out of love instead. Birchspots was apprenticed to Tawnybelly, a strong and strict LightningClan warrior who dreamed of training up the toughest apprentices in the Clan to become fine warriors themselves. It seemed that the leaders hoped that the most timid kits in the Clan would find strength in Tawnybelly, because the two cats could not be further apart in personality. A close friend of Tawnybelly's received an apprentice not long after Birchpaw was given to Tawnybelly, and the two ruthless warriors decided that they would train the timid young toms together. Pebblepaw and Birchpaw became close as apprentices, the two relying on eachother emotionally to survive their difficult apprenticeship. Birchpaw would give the tuxedo tom encouragement, while Pebblepaw would help with the nightmares. These nightmares worsened as the training sessions grew more and more dangerous. Tawnybelly would force Birchpaw to enter enemy territory to hunt or steal water, he'd make him climb trees until the young tom was ready to pass out and drop like a rock from the branches. He made the apprentices fight eachother with claws unsheathed and his unorthodox tactics made him unpopular with other mentors. His powerful mentor was not a tom to argue with, however, and Birchpaw never once refused to do anything Tawnybelly told him to. Tawnybelly and Pebblepaw's mentor were killed by a feral dog a few moons after Birchspots and Pebbleshade finally earned their warrior names. He didn't sit vigil for his former mentor, and instead left the camp with Pebbleshade and only returned the following sunrise after the tabbies had been buried. Birchspots and Pebbleshade became closer after these deaths, and Birchspots had been under the impression that the two would raise kits together. That was not to be, however. Pebbleshade had decided that clan life wasn't for him, and told Birchspots he would be leaving to become a loner. When Birchspots wanted to follow him, Pebbleshade refused to allow it. Pebbleshade told Birchspots that he would only remind him of his ruthless mentor and the hard apprenticeship he had endured in LightningClan. They never saw eachother again. Birchspots was heartbroken, and ever since has been very cautious about developing feelings for other toms. On one of his aimless wanderings beyond the territories, half wanting to get away, half wanting to find Pebbleshade, Birchspots encountered a Tribe cat named Stag. There was something that Birchspots sensed about Stag that reminded him too much of himself, the sadness of a drifting heart. But the mountains were a deadly place, and while Stag was distracted by the newcomer, an eagle attempted to take advantage and capture fresh prey. Birchspots knocked Stag out of the way, under the shelter of some crowded trees. Saving Stag's life seemed to give Birchspots a bit more resolve to try harder, and regain his place with his Clan. All of that was to be shattered the following season. Briartail and Gorsebelly fell victim to a tunnel collapse one crisp, cold leaf-fall morning. Their abrupt deaths shattered Birchspots, putting his faith in StarClan and his loyalty to LightningClan in serious doubt. He felt alone, left-behind and broken. Not seeing much point in remaining in his Clan, he began to contemplate running away, but with the hard season of Leaf-bare approaching he felt a massive responsibility to the living and lingered. His distance from his clanmates increased so much that many are afraid to approach him. He feels much like a ghost in his own home, and rarely speaks up at clan meetings or at meal times. He simply sits alone and eats as though the task itself were a chore.
