GUARDIANS OF THE FOREST
gorgeclan
deputy auditions
[attr="class","cp cp-shooting-star"] introduction
Hello everybody! I am very happy to announce that the Deputy Auditions for Gorgeclan are now open! My dear Whitehawk was chosen to become Gorgeclan’s first Leader, and while he is very nervous about it, he intends to put his all into his new clan, and he is looking for someone who balances his personality well to stand with him as the clan’s Deputy.
Even though Whitestar technically has no previous experience in this field, save for his time as the temporary Deputy of Stoneclan and then Gorgeclan, his time as a Warrior allowed him to develop certain priorities that are carrying over into his Leadership. A few of these priorities are things such as training/mentorship and safety, but other major priorities that have come into play with his promotion are unity and passiveness. Throughout his life Whitestar has been a natural teacher who greatly values the teaching of the next generation, and now, with two clans from different biomes combining together, this value has grown tenfold. In addition, he has always been one to look out for the safety of others, constantly making sure that Apprentices are accompanied by mentors, cats don’t go out alone, others avoid dangerous areas, etc. And with his somewhat newer additions, Whitestar knows very well what becoming the first Gorgeclan Leader entails: he must be a unifier. He must bring cats who came from different clans and different lifestyles together. He also recognizes that he is now one who must maintain relations with the other clans, and with the experience in the Tribe, as well as his previous openness to other clans prior to the earthquake, he intends to do so in a passive and friendly way.
All of this ties into the sort of cat that Whitestar would look for in a Deputy. There are traits and focuses of his that one must either match or balance for him to consider them. For one, his potential Deputy must also value the things listed above: the importance of training, keeping the clan safe, standing as a unifier, and ideally keeping a friendly relationship with the other clans. None of these things are values he would take lightly or let one ignore, so a cat who is lazy, forgetful, xenophobic, or biased towards previous allegiances in any way shape or form would not be chosen by him. On the other side of things, there are certain qualities that he would seek out to balance some of his own that he sees as personal flaws. Whitestar has a lot of anxiety inside, he can be a bit dramatic when it comes to safety or the well-being of others, and he is the sort who would want to help any cat who asks for it, even if it were another clan.
With those things in mind, some traits that White would seek out in a potential Deputy would be: confidence, logical, responsible, and a bit critical.
This cat needs to be someone who is confident, in their own abilities, in the abilities of the clan, and in White. Someone who believes in the clan and knows that they, as a unified family, are capable of greatness.
They need to be very logical, someone who thinks before they act and means what they say. Someone who will look at a situation from multiple angles and determine for themself how they feel something should be handled, and whether or not a punishment or restrictment is too far or not enough (which would in turn be something White would talk with them about).
They need to be responsible, a cat who won't let any Apprentices or Warriors alike be lazy or skip important aspects of their roles or try to get out of their duties. Someone who will help keep a watchful eye on the clan and speak up and step forward when someone is out of line.
And finally, something rather important, is that they need to be critical. Something mentioned previously is that White wants to keep friendly relations with the other clans, which also pertains to things like making deals or offering assistance to them if they ask. In a similar way, he wants his Deputy to feel the same; they want to avoid trouble with the other clans and avoid violence. But, at the same time, he wants his Deputy to be more critical of the other clans, their Leaders, their actions, their words; someone who will keep track of things said or done and judge when they feel a request for help or a deal to be made is not worth it. Whitestar is self-reflective enough to know that he is a friendly cat, one who would help someone in need in an instant, which is why he recognizes that he needs a Deputy who can balance this. Similarly, they need to be someone who recognizes when an act done by another clan is not acceptable, when Gorgeclan should retaliate in some way. As White is someone who wants to avoid violence as much as possible, he needs a Deputy who can step forward and say "hey, what they are doing/have done is not something to take lightly, we need to take some kind of action or confront them." Someone straight forward and ever watchful.
Whitestar is an anxious cat by nature. He worries for those around him, he worries about what may come of his choices, he worries about things going wrong. He never imagined himself being the Leader of a clan, but as unexpected as it is, he has stepped up to the plate and plans to do everything he can to make Gorgeclan great. But he knows he can't do it alone. In this race, Whitestar isn't just looking for a Deputy; he is looking for a friend and a partner.

requirements & rules [attr="class","cp cp-certificate"]
And now we come to the rules! Please remember that there are both in-character and out-of-character requirements for playing a high rank, so please consider if you would be able to keep up with those requirements before applying. You may answer the prompts as IC posts or explain how your character would respond in an OOC format. Good luck everyone who submits an audition!
Auditions will be open until May 10th at 11:59pm EST, after which this thread will be locked until a decision is announced. (This date can be extended if necessary.)
Auditions will be open until May 10th at 11:59pm EST, after which this thread will be locked until a decision is announced. (This date can be extended if necessary.)
- Your account on the site must be at least one month old.
- You must have made at least thirty posts.
- Your cat must have mentored at least one apprentice either in roleplay or in their history.
- Your cat should be at least thirty moons old, but if you have a younger cat you wish to apply (who meets the qualifications and is a strong candidate), Whitestar will consider them.
- You must not already be playing a Leader, Deputy, Lead Cave-Guard, or Lead Prey-Hunter.
- Players who have a Medicine Cat are allowed to participate, but those who do not yet have a HR are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Applicants can originally be from any Clan, so long as they now live in GorgeClan.
[attr="class","cp cp-crown"] duties & responsibilities
Before deciding if you want to apply your character to become Gorgeclan's Deputy, please think about the in-character role your cat will play in the roleplay and the new role you yourself will play in our community. These tasks will be your responsibility, so be sure that you'll be able to stay on top of them before you apply for this role! [attr="class","cp cp-heart"]
OOC Duties
IC Duties
OOC Duties
- You will be required to post at least three times a month as your Deputy.
- Alongside the Leader, you will have to help manage the training tracker of Gorgeclan and keep up with the progress of Kits and Apprentices.
- If at any point I am unavailable for a long period of time, you will be the next person people go to when making decisions for Gorgeclan. This could include choosing mentors for Apprentices, speaking for Gorgeclan at clan meetings or Gatherings, helping move forward clan plots, or choosing patrols for things such as Gatherings.
- Your character will be responsible for helping to make decisions for Gorgeclan that can affect the future of the roleplay.
- You will be expected to brainstorm with the current Gorgeclan Leader, staff, and other HRs on plot ideas for Gorgeclan.
- Whitestar would like to develop a close relationship with his Deputy, so once a season or so I would like for your new Deputy and Whitestar to have threads together, whether they be professional threads talking through decisions or just side-line friendship building threads!
IC Duties
- As clan Deputy, you are in charge of maintaining the day-to-day life of Gorgeclan, and involving Whitestar when necessary. You will also be the go-to individual in the clan for general conflict resolution.
- With Whitestar’s priority of the training of Apprentices, you will help in overseeing said training, checking in with mentors, and assisting if needed. You will discuss with Whitestar when you feel an assessment is in order or when you feel an Apprentice is ready to become a Warrior.
- You will be expected to perform in place of Whitestar if he is unable to, such as if he fell greatly ill or was badly injured.
- You are in charge of organizing border and hunting patrols. Your Warriors will report to you and you will be expected to collect information, such as areas with high or low amounts of prey, any signs of predators and their locations, and any activity of non-Gorgeclan cats at the border or on your territory. At the end of the day you will report all of this to Whitestar.
- You will help Whitestar decide on the best choice of mentors for new Apprentices, which means getting to know Kits and their parents. Whitestar does this as well, but he will seek out your opinion often, so your insight into what sort of mentor a kit needs is very valuable to him.
- In bringing Gorgeclan to a state of normalcy, a very important task that Whitestar will value just as much as training Apprentices is also training Warriors in their new way of life. With clanmates of varying places of origin and history, it is very important that all Warriors learn to (1) climb trees and navigate/hunt shadows below tree coverage, if they are not formerly Treeclan, (2) scale boulders and hunt certain prey types, if not formerly Stoneclan, (3) ascending, descending, and navigating the gorge, and (4) any new skills that could be learned and shared with everyone in the clan.
scenarios & prompts [attr="class","cp cp-clapperboard"]
SCENARIO I
Finally tired of this, both Nettlenose and Sandstream come to you asking what they should do. They have tried to smooth things over, but it hasn't worked one bit.
What do you do?
Unsure of what this could mean and not wanting to assume, one day you watch as the pair leaves camp and secretly follow along. They seem as though they have a destination in mind, but when you reach the Dried Creek within the meadows and find that they have not stopped, you realize what is happening. Even from a distance you can see the two stalking around in the Flower Fields that belong to Galeclan. Adderskip has been taking his Apprentice into the territories of the other clans, either to train, steal prey, or both. If Mistclan or Galeclan found out, it could cause a lot of trouble. What do you do?
[attr="class","cp cp-heart"]
Back when the clans sheltered with the Tribe, cats of all clans were free to choose where they lived, regardless of previous allegiances or heritages. Sandstream, a Rainclan Warrioress, chose to come to Gorgeclan to be with her mate, Nettlenose. And, horray! They just had their first litter of kits in the new clan! While the parents are thrilled, Nettlenose's family is far from pleased. A proper family once of Stoneclan, his parents find these new kits revolting and are very open about their opinions. They have been scolded for xenophobic behavior towards those in the clan not of Stoneclan blood before, but in this scenario they are being very vocal about their displeasure. They make it known that they do not approve of Sandstream, her relationship with Nettlenose, or the kits, claiming that these new kits are "half-clan kits that should be in the swamps where they belong".Finally tired of this, both Nettlenose and Sandstream come to you asking what they should do. They have tried to smooth things over, but it hasn't worked one bit.
What do you do?
SCENARIO II
[attr="class","cp cp-spider-web"]
Since the beginning of Newleaf many young Kits have been promoted to Apprentices and given to their new mentors to begin training. As far as you have been able to tell, none of the mentor and Apprentice matchups seem to clash and everyone seems to be getting along quite well. One thing you do notice, about 3 moons into training, is that one mentor in particular, Adderskip, has been bragging an awful lot about how much potential his Apprentice Spiderpaw has shown. Of course, this is good, it is always great to hear that an Apprentice is doing well in their training. But eventually you begin to notice that sometimes both Adderskip and Spiderpaw come back to camp with their fur damp and a very faint scent clinging to their pelts, the scent changing to different strange things each time. Sometimes they smell of wildflowers and rabbit, other times they smell of pine and marsh water.Unsure of what this could mean and not wanting to assume, one day you watch as the pair leaves camp and secretly follow along. They seem as though they have a destination in mind, but when you reach the Dried Creek within the meadows and find that they have not stopped, you realize what is happening. Even from a distance you can see the two stalking around in the Flower Fields that belong to Galeclan. SCENARIO III
“He was already here. I sent him away so she could get some rest. You may wanna go talk to him in his den.”
You approach the Leader’s den and call to him, and you hear him quietly call back. As you enter, you see Whitestar sitting along the back wall of the den, his head lowered and his body mostly still, occasionally shaking lightly.
“They…they had no reason…no one has pushed for the borders yet…what are they trying to gain? How could they just….do that….how could they just attack the first cats they see? The injuries, they are…..awful….”
You can tell that he is very distraught, his breaths coming in boughts. It takes just a moment for it to click that the combination of Mistclan launching an attack on a Gorgeclan patrol and the current state of his clanmates, plus his own sister, has sent Whitestar into an anxiety attack. You have never seen him have one before, but he has openly told you before that he suffers from a lot of anxiety, and this situation is showing clear signs of an attack.
He looks to you, his single eye full of uncertainty, doubt, and even a little bit of fear. “What…do we do? They…they weren’t provoked. They had no reason. I have no qualms with Cloverstar. How could they…” He stops, his head lowering again. You can tell that he is struggling. Only a season into his Leadership and already Gorgeclan is facing trouble, ones that hit directly home for the one-eyed tom in more ways than one.
Will you comfort him? Will you advise him for or against immediate action against Mistclan? What will you do?
[attr="class","cp cp-star"]
After a long day of sorting and organizing patrols, you yourself have decided to put yourself on a patrol towards the end of the day at dusk. You and your patrol do quite well in your hunting, coming home with a good assortment of prey. But as you near the edge of the gorge, you can hear commotion across the way in camp. Your patrol hurries down the gorge and up into camp, finding that most of the clan is out and everyone seems on edge. Getting closer, you see that multiple cats are injured, some only minorly, others are already in the urgent care of Ebonyheart and Sageheart. You can hear many others saying that a border patrol sent to mark the Wood Path were attacked by a Mistclan patrol out of the blue. You approach the Medicine Cat den to check on those who bore the worst of the group and find Sageheart tending to a white she-cat named Lakegaze; Whitestar’s sister. But Whitestar is nowhere to be found.“He was already here. I sent him away so she could get some rest. You may wanna go talk to him in his den.”
