The grin on her face was a little forced as she stared at the confinements of the Apprentice den. She's made it to the next stage; along with Webpaw and Yarrowpaw her two sisters that weren't too fond of her right now. The little thing plopped her butt down and glared at the nests created around her wondering where she'd be putting hers. Perhaps she'd put one next to Rustpaw's. It'd be better than nothing. She looked down at the bundle of moss that she'd collected with her sisters out on an expedition with a guide to be able to get materials to settle into her new den. She grimaced and poked her head around to look at the rusty red colored she-cat lugging her own bedding towards her and sighed with an eye roll.

"Hurry up already Rustpaw! all the good spots will be taken if we don't hurry. Where you want to put our nests anyways? Everyone sort of has their own inner circles even among their nests." she said with a bit of distaste at the last part as she peered around the other nests where some apprentices were up and talking among themselves; giving her some odd looks. While her sisters minded their own business Poppypaw was one who liked to stand out and she was made fun of that very fact. Her only real friend she managed to snag was the unpredictable Rustpaw who somehow managed to become her friend despite Poppypaw's rather...impulsive and blunt personality. Eyes scanning the area she tipped her chin towards a blue grey tom who was already creating his nest.

"Darn, there's Riverpaw, he's already here and making his nest. Wanna go make it near him? Seems logical since we all got apprenticed at the same time." stormy grey eyes peered over at Rustpaw with a curious look in them as she spoke to the other. Much like herself Rustpaw was a determined and seeker of truth and knowledge which Poppypaw begrudgingly admired about the other. Riverpaw on the other hand was a sweet thing that it made the brown she-cat wonder if he'd make it as a warrior with how sweet and kind he is. But wasn't that what the training was for anyways? Not to just train their physical skills but to train them to be a better version of themselves for their future?

With a thoughtful hum Poppypaw snagged her bundle of moss and weaved her way around the others; shooting a "Be careful and watch out with those clumsy paws if yours." towards Rustpaw as the small female headed to make her nest by Riverpaw. The unlikely trio had been made apprentices together so Poppypaw would stick with them for now; better then going on her own right now without footing.

Setting her bundle of moss down she looked over at Riverpaw with a small smirk. "Mind if Rustpaw and I make our nests over by you? Be good to stick together and whatnot." she explained as she began molding the bundles of moss she had into a comfortable nest without further explanation.

Being small came with both advantages and disadvantages. You were able to slip out of sight easily to sneak around the edges of camp on little missions, you got called cute a lot, and, most importantly, you were able to completely disappear into the super soft and fluffy pelts of the bigger cats. But you also had to worry about getting stepped on, others constantly trying to watch out for you, and, in this current situation, moving things was difficult when you didn’t have much strength.

Frozensong had assisted the small Apprentice in constructing her new nest for her new den that morning. It was small enough that it fit little Rustpaw quite well, but also big enough to be comfy. Unfortunately, in order for Rustpaw to fit into the nest, it had to be bigger than herself. It was this fact that led to her current predicament: pulling the nest into the Apprentice den.

Unfortunately she had been unable to go out and collect the materials alongside her buddies, but she had gotten back to camp around the same time as Poppypaw, which she felt lucky for. She had taken the time to learn how to build her own nest from Frozensong before she joined them, which happened to be right as Poppypaw was also getting her nest in the den.

With a little happy wiggle of her rear, the rust-colored she-cat began to heave her new nest towards the den step by step, giving a good pull with each backwards movement. She managed to get to the entrance when she heard a familiar voice call out, telling her to hurry and that they wouldn’t get a good spot if she didn’t. With this in mind, her paws stopped for a moment, doing tiny little tap-steps in place to get herself worked up. With a little boost of energy, she clamped down on the side of the nest and pushed her legs forward as fast as she could, going backwards into the den with her nest in front of her. Right as she made it to Poppypaw’s side, her back legs attempted to move at the same time, folding forward under her into an odd sitting position. Her jaws released her nest and she glanced back at the similarly-colored she-cat at her side.

“Aren’t we able to just put them anywhere? We could always put them on top of the den, ” she stated, her second statement said with a giggle and a toothy grin.

At her friend’s next words, she found herself turning her head more, neck completely leaning back and eyes peering behind her at where she saw the cat in question. Even though Riverpaw was upside down, she still easily recognized him, a smile forming on her face again.

“We should! He will be stuck with us whether he likes it or not, ” she beamed, the slightest hint of mischief spoken with her last words. The chance to sound as though she were planning some sort of scheme could never be passed up, even if it was only subtle.

As Poppypaw began to take her things over to the tom, Rustpaw lifted her head back to normal, looking down at her nest. She shimmied her tail backwards to get her back feet back under her where they belonged before grabbing her nest and pulling again. In reality, she probably should have waited until she was already in the den to build her nest, but it was fine. The nest hadn’t fallen apart yet, so obviously her strategy had worked.

She couldn’t really see where she was going, but she knew the general direction she had to go to get where she wanted, her rear lightly bumping into Poppypaw as she reached them. Taking this as a signal that she was there, she released her nest again, this time turning to peer at the two new Apprentices she had been promoted with. Though her body turned in an odd way, her back legs still mostly facing forward while the rest of her tried to turn the opposite way, she seemed perfectly content with this, looking over at Riverpaw with her usual toothy grin.

“Everybody needs nest buddies!” Not completely true, since there were some who did sleep alone. But Rustpaw liked the idea of Apprentices who had been promoted together keeping close. There’s always that chance to add in other Apprentices to the group too, even if they were older or younger!

iverpaw had waited for this day since the first time he learned of apprenticeship, of warriorhood and of the nature of his existence. With blue eyes flashing bright with excitement, he had made a beeline for the apprentice’s den, eager to build his very own nest. With the warm congratulations of his mother ringing through his ears, the blue-grey tom had pushed his way into the den with a bundle of moss clutched awkwardly in his jaws. He wanted to build his nest inside the den itself so that it would be as perfectly fit to the den as possible. He mostly ignored the other apprentices for now. They were a lot older than him and for all intents and purposes, they still viewed him as a kit. Besides, he wasn’t a baby, he didn’t need help making his nest anymore. Patting the moss around with small blue paws, he eventually managed to construct the vague shape of a nest. He looked at it with a crooked grimace. Yeah, it wasn’t great, but… it was the first nest he’d ever made himself. It’d do.

A shout outside the den made his ears swivel towards the nose, whiskers twitching. No doubt, that was Poppypaw. No other cat could manage a volume like that without straining themselves. A calico shape entered the den burdened with moss as he had been, followed by… a tail? Rustpaw’s brown-red rump came through the entrance, wiggling as though trying to drag something through the tiny gap. “Hey, wouldn’t it be better to just-” Riverpaw spoke up, but then Rustpaw’s mossy bed sprang through the entrance awkwardly. Well, that worked too, he guessed. “Hi, you two!” He blurted out. “I forgot- we’re gonna be training together. Have you two gone out with your mentors yet? What do you think your first training session will be? How long do you think it’ll take for us to become warr-” His flood of words was cut off by a prompt “shh!” from one of the older apprentices, who frowned at him. Shrinking a little, Riverpaw clamped his jaws shut. He noticed that Poppypaw had a bit of a sad gleam in her eye despite her smile, and a flash of concern rose in his heart. “Hey, Poppypaw, everything okay?” He asked her, stretching out in his new, wonkily made nest.

He sat up when Poppypaw asked if they could set their nests near him. His face reddened beneath his blue fur, and he laughed nervously. “Uh- yeah! Y-yeah, of course! Right next to me!” He purred, eyes widening. Okay, two pretty she-cats bunking next to him? It was too much for the young tom to take. His flustered purr was broken off as Poppypaw had already seemed to begin to construct her nest next to his before he’d even finished his answer. While he waited for her to finish with her nest, he looked up at Rustpaw, who was watching him upside down. He laughed at her joke, still a little bit flustered. He rolled over and looked up at Rustpaw, who now looked right-side-up from his newfound perspective. “Now the whole world is upside down!” He meowed, whiskers twitching. This prompted an eye-roll from an older apprentice, who muttered “kits” under his breath.
