sagekit of treeclan MAKE THE BEST OF THEIR WORST AND NEVER COMPROMISE WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT The blue Somali kitten twisted in her comfortable nest, and stretched out her skinny legs with all pawpads splayed. At her back, she felt the smooth silky pelts of her mother and sister, and she rubbed into Feathercloud's soft fur, chirrupping. Now that Sagekit and Acornkit were nearing apprentice age, their bed in the nursery was getting to be too small. One of Sagekit's paws were always dangling out of the nest. She was glad to have just her sister; she wasn't sure she could stay in the nursery if she had to compete with three or four kits instead of just Acornkit. It wasn't for her sake, though, but for her mother's. Sometimes she sensed her mother's uneasiness, but whenever she asked, she was assured all was well. Rolling over, Sagekit peered over the thick rim of ivy and mulch. She leaned over to wake up Acornkit, inviting her to play, and she leapt out to investigate anything that was different from the day before. Was she any closer to receiving her apprentice name? It'd been raining so much lately, but Feathercloud told her that this was part of Newleaf, and she would be able to see the world grow alongside her. She spied a wriggly bug chewing through a new hole. Its head poked out, and its mandibles worked fiercely on the wood. Sagekit leapt up with paws outstretched and clawed the larva's head, flinging it to the ground. Excited at her successful hunt, she pounced on it and proceeded to bat it around playfully. The she-kit bounced around with her fluffy tail whipping about. Suddenly, one of her strikes sent the wiggly bug beyond the edge of the nursery, disappearing. "Huh?" Sagekit trotted after it and carefully stuck her head out of the nursery entry-way. Her golden eyes were immediately captured by the sights of many TreeClan cats. The bug was forgotten. "Oh! Hello!" She tried catching the attention of passerby with a smile and a wave. "Hello!" The social kitten hoped someone would want to play. open for anyone; i'm getting a handle on sage #944c82

92 Moons || Senior Warrior || Tom there's a light that you give me when I'm in shadow Thank StarClan, we survived.
The NightClan invasion had rattled Sprucefur to his core. Already the type to worry about his loved ones, having his fears so brutally justified and his mate so terribly wounded in the same night had pushed him into full-fledged paranoia. The pale-furred senior tom checked into the nursery often, and that pit of anguish in his chest roared to life with every patrol assignment, every necessary hunting excursion he was forced to be a part of.
Call it selfish, but Sprucefur was grateful he did not have an apprentice to watch over. His focus was shattered. Warrior duties, while necessary, faded into background noise, replaced by the overwhelming urge to protect his family. The intensity of it had lessened a little as leafbare drew to a close, but there would always be a part of Sprucefur now, a fresh, ugly scar, that would push him to place their well-being above anything else.
A flash of gray fur from the nursery's edge caught pale yellow-green eyes. His stomach lurched and he abandoned the conversation he'd been having with Dunefang to meet his daughter at the entrance. "Good morning, Sagekit," he mewed, warmth evident as he leaned in and brushed his muzzle between the kitten's ears. "Are you looking for someone?" His gaze once again sought the nursery entrance, but it was his other senses that told him what he wanted to know.
Feathercloud and Acornkit were inside, sleeping peacefully. Sprucefur's demeanor seemed to change, his alertness returning to that of how it used to be before the attack. The edgy protectiveness receding like the chilly bite of leafbare. Sprucefur smiled, tail curling around his paws as he sat before her.
There's a feeling you give me, an everglow

you are an artist and your heart is your masterpiece
He was so jumpy nowadays. Any fast movement that he caught out of the corner of his eye had his head whipping around and heart racing in his chest as he braced for an impact that never came. Gorsetail eyed Owlstrike as the other tom strode by, entirely unaware of the heart attack he had given the tabby elder. Shaking his head, he took a deep breath. The battle may have ended, but its effects lingered all around them. StarClan knew Gorsetail was feeling it. Sleep had become a rare commodity, for his troubled mind never seemed to settle unless sheer exhaustion dragged it into unconsciousness. His thoughts traveled in circles from his family in the nursery to his family in the warriors den to the safety of the camp to the well-being of the clan and back again – and it was now, more than ever, that he found himself relying on the respite of the nursery. Apart from a scare, Sagekit and Acornkit had thankfully remained untouched by the horrors of that night, and their cheerful innocence did wonders for his tired heart. With Sprucefur and Feathercloud as their parents, he had no reason to doubt their safety when he wasn’t around, but nevertheless a small part of him worried. What if? It was a dangerous thought, one that led his mind down dark and twisting paths that haunted his nightmares. What if he hadn’t made it to Feathercloud in time? What if Nightsky had moved slightly to the side and the gash along his side had hit something vital? What if—What if— He shook his head again, green eyes landing on Sprucefur’s familiar pelt as he drew near the nursery. Everyone was fine, he told himself sternly. A little shaken, but fine. There was no need to torture himself over possibilities that had not become reality. The pale-furred warrior had eyes only for his daughter, little Sagekit with a heart of gold and a smile for everyone. Gorsetail couldn’t blame him, but, he thought with a small smile, perhaps he wasn’t above taking advantage of it. With the prospect of spending a morning with four of his favorite cats lightening his dark mood, he carefully sidled up to Sprucefur and silently sat just out of the warrior’s range of sight. Catching Sagekit’s gaze, he winked and cast her a mischievous grin, pointedly mimicking her father as best he could. A quick paw over his ears sent his fur sticking up in a cheap imitation of Sprucefur’s long fur, and he fluffed up his chest fur to the same end. Then, with a quick side-long glance at his best friend and slight adjustment of his paws, he adopted the silliest expression he could think of – tongue out, eyes crossed, head tilted to the side. @ KARAZHAL BlooRey DVD Fawnand i'll keep it safe

sagekit of treeclan MAKE THE BEST OF THEIR WORST AND NEVER COMPROMISE WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT It was strange to think that kits could bounce back so readily, but Sagekit had done just that. NightClan's attack on the camp was more like a bad dream or a scary story. It had come and went. There were no more stinky NightClan cats around now. Her papa and her uncles and everybody else in TreeClan had worked really hard to beat them! The confident she-kit knew nothing of war and terror except for what she saw in the eyes of her older clanmates. A few TreeClan cats stopped to smile and nod at her as they passed by. However, none made her golden eyes gleam as brightly as that of the fawn-colored tom who approached her directly. "Papa!" she meowed brightly, shoving her head up against his chin and running her skinny spine across his throat. Her fluffy tail brushed against him before she turned about and swept it gracefully over her paws, looking as ladylike as her beautiful mother. Was she waiting for someone? "No! You... maybe. I was just saying--heehee--hello to everyone." She'd glimpsed Gorsetail mid-reply, and her eyes glittered in laughter. Sagekit was quite the socialite, but she didn't take it to heart that few clanmates stopped what they were doing to chat. TreeClanners were hard workers after all, and she was content with watching them filter in and out of the entryway. The important ones were right here! Her astute gold eyes squinted as she saw Sprucefur look into the nursery where her mother and sister were. Sagekit was about to ask what was wrong when his expression shifted again and he smiled down at her. Everything was all right? She opened her mouth to say something, but that dang goofy Gorsetail was making a funny face and she wheezed in an attempt to keep from laughing. "Wha--?" Daintily, she drew up her paw and turned her muzzle away. "What's everyone doing?" Sagekit cleared her throat and tried to look serious, and she gave Gorsetail a pointed look as well, raising her brows at him. She was trying to look mature in front of her papa! Did her silly uncle Gorse know that she was going to be an apprentice any day now!? "Can I help? Mama won't be scared if you and Gorsetail escort me," she said, peering around her father and giving the game away. she is such a princess <3#944c82

91 Moons || Senior Warrior || Tom there's a light that you give me when I'm in shadow "Is there something on my face?" Sprucefur's whiskers twitched, his brows raised as he watched little Sagekit shift from giggling to almost stern, even as she tried to ask questions of her own. In his younger moons, he had always been a selfconscious cat. Stuck in Lionstar's immense golden shadow, he had been the pale moon to the fiery sun at the Clan's heart. Blood relation obvious.
But that cat was from a long, long time ago.
This Sprucefur, the one who would give his life for the she-kit at his paws, felt a sense of warmth and fullness every time those bright inquisitive eyes were upon him. It was a feeling he could only have guessed at. It wasn't until Acornkit and Sagekit had surprised them in the best way possible that he finally understood Appleshade's obsessive preening and worrying over her own litter.
There was a special place in the heart for one's own kin, born out of love and good fortune. Sprucefur swore to the stars in Silverpelt, it was actually keeping him younger than aging him prematurely.
However...
"Gorsetail?" Sprucefur glanced over his shoulder and was met with a cross-eyed tabby tom, head cocked and tongue lolling out as if he had all the sense of a stunned weasel. Sprucefur laughed, the sound a burst of warmth and affection for his oldest friend. "Careful, friend. You hold that face for too long, you'll get stuck that way." Catching his daughter's eye, he winked, as though sharing in a little white lie with her.
"Everyone's cleaning out dens and patching leaks from the thunderstorm," Sprucefur finally answered her question, his tail curling sweeping out of the way as he stood aside to give her a clearer view of the busy Clan. "The elders could use fresh moss. Apprentices usually fetch that, but in the meantime why don't we ball up the old moss to make it easier to transport?" It wasn't the most glamorous of chores, particularly for Gorsetail - he looked at his companion in apology - but Sprucefur hoped the former deputy would forgive the menial labor in exchange for good company. "While we do that," he purred, leaning down to lick flat a tuft of unruly fur between his daughter's ears. "You can tell me what you'd like your apprenticeship to be like. What kind of mentor you want or the things you wish to learn. Gorsetail, Feathercloud and I can teach you some of the basics."

to you everything's funny you've got nothing to regret i'd give all i have, honey if you could stay like that
The light in Sagekit’s eyes and the sound of her giggling had his heart flooding with fondness, and though he managed to maintain the goofy expression, he found the corners of his lips starting to twitch upward into a smile. Once again, he marveled at the innocence of youth. How long had it been since he’d last laughed with as light a heart as a kit? A look of consternation crossed her small features as she struggled to maintain an air of seriousness, sending a pointed look his way. He adopted an air of innocence – who, me? – but green eyes still glittered with a hint of mischief. For a moment, they were once more the green eyes of a younger tom who would pelt his leader and former mentor with acorns: a remnant of days long past and a forgotten joy that he’d thought had been extinguished with the passage of time. In its absence, he hadn’t even known he’d missed such playfulness and upon rediscovery was pleased to find that he still had it. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Sprucefur begin to turn and did his best to swiftly rearrange his features into a more normal expression – but his old friend was too quick. A burst of surprised laughter had him finally letting the smile spread across his face, and purring, he nudged the other tom with his shoulder before ducking down to touch his nose to Sagekit’s head in greeting. At the senior warrior’s words, he could feel himself flushing lightly as jolted upright, miming alarm with wide eyes and a gaping mouth before schooling his expression into something more serious and befitting of a regal TreeClan warrior. And if it possibly closely resembled a particular golden-furred TreeClan leader, well… It was hardly his fault that Lionstar walked around with such a noble, fatherly air that Gorsetail had learned, more for his own amusement than anything, to imitate during his tenure as deputy. Ears flicking, the elder listened as Sprucefur answered his daughter’s excited inquiry, offering the senior warrior a small smile and nod when he cast the apologetic look in his direction. He remembered those long days cleaning out the elder’s den so many moons ago – it hadn’t been a fun chore, but the appreciation he received from the less grouchy elders for completing it had often made it worth it. And on days when that wasn’t enough, the companionship of friends made the work easier to bear. With these two, it wouldn’t feel like work at all. Nodding in agreement with the senior warrior's words - he was curious to hear about Sagekit's hopes for apprenticeship and was more than willing to teach her some basics - he leaned down toward the she-cat and stage-whispered the best part of working with moss: "M-Moss ball." With a paw, he mimed rolling up a wad of moss before flicking it in Sprucefur's direction, tail circling around to bop the older tom on the nose. With a conspiratorial wink, he turned back to Sagekit and gestured between the two of them with his tail before pretending to flick another ball of moss at his old friend. They'd make a great team. Of course, the little she-kit could hardly ignore her sister prodding at her to come play. If there was anything Acornkit enjoyed more than playing, well... She certainly hadn't discovered it yet. But, there was one thing she had to do before she could play. So, as Sagekit padded out of the nursery, chasing after something or other, the second she-kit's features twisted into a mask of total concentration as she gazed upon her greatest challenge yet: a sleeping Feathercloud. The silver queen's ice blue eyes were shut firmly, haunches rising and falling in a slow rhythm. Despite her youth, Acornkit did notice the slight change in the tension in Feathercloud's body once both kits had vacated the nest.
There was only one answer if the pretty silver she-cat looked that uncomfortable with her kits being gone! Wake her so that she could come play too! Acornkit's ear pivoted desperately as she heard her father's voice from the entrance, the little she-kit wanting so badly to go tackle him. But she had to be strong. Had to persevere! If she could just....
A wiggle of small, untrained haunches. A shift of weight aaaaand...!
The darkness behind Feathercloud's eyes flashed white suddenly as something collided with her face. Bright blue eyes snapped open with a muffled gasp as the warrioress' entire body seized slightly, head thrashing to one side then the other as she tried to figure out what was happening before it became a danger to her or her kits. Her heart slammed against her ribcage, panic momentarily seizing her throat before the rest of her senses came to and she caught on to the string of giggles emitted from a whisker breadth away from her face.
"Great StarClan, Acornkit! Claws out of my fur please!" Came the muffled exasperation of the she-cat with a kit clinging to her face. When her daughter relented with another set of giggles, Feathercloud wriggled her features in relief. "You're not so small anymore, Acornkit, you've... Got to be more careful." The she-cat admittedly still felt awkward when it came to disciplining her kits. She loved them, she did. She simply struggled with the idea she was a mother, even after all these moons. Her kits were ready to become apprentices now. How on earth had time passed by this quickly?
Of course, it was here that she recalled the pluralization of said statement. Kits. Where was Sagekit?
Panic seized her again briefly, the silver she-cat standing up quickly and immediately shoving her head out of the nursery. There was a slight wildness to her blue eyes as she blinked against the sharp light, only for relief to cross her once she laid eyes on Sagekit talking to her father and... Gorsetail making faces in the background..?
... Yeah, that checks out.
Relaxing instantly, Feathercloud released a long sigh, leaning down to nose Sagekit slightly. "Please... Don't leave like that, Sagekit. You can... Can always wake me to tell me you want to go out, okay?" She murmured softly, glancing up at Sprucefur to offer him a tired but adoring smile.
With a flick of her ear, she looked back to Sagekit. "Now... Did my ears deceive me, or did I hear moss ball mentio-OW!" The warrioress yowled suddenly, half tripping, half limping out of the nursery. Her left hind paw was raised completely off the ground as she hopped several steps, her remaining paws flailing desperately to keep her standing.
Meanwhile, a gray and off-cream shape giggled wildly from where it clung to a dark and silver flank, Acornkit having the time of her life riding Feathercloud as though she were an untameable beast. "Gooooorse!" Came a little caterwaul from the furred bur on the she-cat's flank. "We've got a runner! I repeat, we've got a runner on our paaaaws!" Feathercloud spun about trying to grab the kit by the scruff, succeeding only in spinning in a dizzying circle several times over. "S-Sprucefur! G-Gorsetail! One of you! Get our daughter off my flank!"

sagekit of treeclan MAKE THE BEST OF THEIR WORST AND NEVER COMPROMISE WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT "No, papa... Gorsetail's being silly," Sagekit's cheeks puffed out as her father's head turned away from her and faced the other tom. She bared her teeth and stuck her tongue out between them, giving Gorsetail a funny expression now that Sprucefur wasn't looking at her. "Be care-thul! It'll get shtuck like thish!" She parroted her father, lisping her words because of her tongue. She tucked her tongue back in as Gorsetail gently touched her head, and she trilled, pleased with his presence. His antics amused her, and while it was clearly an act, his "alarm" made the child feel she was being taken seriously and she headbutted her forehead against Gorsetail's chest. "My naming ceremony is soon! You don't want Lionstar to change your name to Goofyface while he's at it!" she told him. She told anyone who would listen about her imminent ceremony, and Sagekit was eager to prove that she was ready to be an apprentice. As Sprucefur explained today's duties, she brightened, ignorant to the concept of "menial labor". If she was with her papa and uncle and helping the Clan, it was hardly menial. Perhaps a few moons as an apprentice doing boring chores would change her mind, but for now, she was still a kit, happy to have the attention of her family. As Sprucefur mentioned "apprentices usually fetch that...", Sagekit stood tall, hoping he would see her as one, but she deflated slightly as he suggested to ball up the old moss instead. "Okaaay..." Her face scrunched up as she felt her father's tongue rasp across her pelt. The downy tuft lay flat for two seconds and then popped right back up like a dandelion sprout. Still, she couldn't stay down for long. The moment Sprucefur asked her what kind of mentor she wanted and all the things she wanted to learn, her eyes lit up again. Gorsetail nodded in agreement to Sprucefur's words and bent down to croak "... Moss... ball." Sagekit's ears perked, just like her unruly fur. Her uncle was certainly naughty. Another series of giggles bubbled out from the little lady. She was about to take steps out of the nursery when she heard her mother's exasperated voice behind her. The blue Somali turned around, cocking her head. "I was just with papa!" she explained without fear of getting in trouble with her mother. Feathercloud's laidback methods of disciplining had resulted in an independent little she-cat. Sagekit had her own self-discipline: not wanting to disappoint either one of them, especially her father. Her attention quickly changed to her sister as her mother's sudden yowl filled the air. Sagekit's back arched in alarm, her fur puffing out all over and her tail standing on end. "Acornkit, you're supposed to play with me!" she mewed. She lunged to her mother's rescue, wanting to be part of whatever game Acornkit was playing. If Acornkit was riding Feathercloud, then Sagekit would try to ride Acornkit. With her body still arched, she bounced sideways in their direction. She pounced with her claws sheathed, attempting to wrap her front legs around her sister playfully.

91 Moons || Senior Warrior || Tom there's a light that you give me when I'm in shadow Acornkit arrived like a thunderclap, the easy-going atmosphere becoming charged by the positive mischievous energy from the kit and the stress radiating off of Feathercloud.
Sprucefur intercepted, detaching Acornkit from his mate's flank just as Sagekit tried to join the fray. He grunted gently at the impact of tiny kitten claws, setting Acornkit down with one paw strategically placed on her tail.
"How about we channel that energy into a game of mossball? Appleshade would love the company." Sprucefur glanced at Gorsetail, a wane smile beneath his whiskers. He hoped his best friend's easy air of respect and leadership might temper Acornkit's wildfire nature for at least an hour.
Regardless of the accident (or perhaps even because of), Gorsetail was still widely respected within the Clan. Choice pieces of prey brought to him, and he was spoken of warmly, not least of all by Lionstar. While Gorsetail was given the chance to speak, Sprucefur touched Feathercloud's flank with his tail. Are you alright? He tried to convey his question through the scrunch of his brows.
Maybe Gorsetail could take the kits for today and they could go for a walk? It had been more than a few moons since Feathercloud had had any real time to herself. Being a queen was a full time job. Though Sprucefur did what he could to express his deep appreciation and love for her, few things could beat a few precious moments of solitude.
