"But why can't I go?" Bramblekit glowered up at her mother, tawny eyes like two fierce little moons in the night. Thornscar's tortoiseshell shape bristled up at the indignant tone in her daughter's voice. "Because kits don't go to gatherings." She countered rather fiercely, her own yellow-gold eyes stern. "And because I said so, and you do as your mother tells you." Bramblekit had no response to that one, she just shuffled her paws in indignation, itching to chase after the patrol that had just left for the gathering. Darkstar should have let her go! It would be part of their apprentice training, and she'd been giving them tips on how to fight since they could walk. Why couldn't she bring them to the gathering?

The temperate Greenleaf night brought humid wind whisking down into the underground camp, the smaller roots that held up sections of the roof shivered slightly, like a dozen spindly legs dangling overhead in the shadows. Bramblekit decided that if she couldn't escape through the entrance of the camp, she'd... she'd dig her own way out! Determined, she glanced around to make sure no-one was watching her and marched towards one section of wall, scrabbling her feet at it with claws unsheathed. Though her little white talons snagged some loose soil, she was dismayed to find that much of the wall was made up of solid rock that her tiny paws could not budge. Guess that's it for that idea... She thought, disappointed. She looked down at her tiny brown paw, splaying out the claws to look at the dark dirt she had snagged in-between them, and between her toes too. She lapped at her paw to try and clean it, then screwed up her nose in repulsion at the tart flavour.
