Hollowkit lay in a patch of moonlight, the silver rays bathing him and sending out a shadow to one side. He stared at it, remembered his initial shock at the first sight of it. Living underground, he'd never seen his shadow before, but he'd had many an opportunity since the Clan had been forced to relocate here. Thornscar had explained it to him- light from the moon, or the sun, was blocked from reaching the ground. It wasn't dangerous. He'd gotten over his wariness soon enough, and he'd had a bit of fun with his sisters in new games.
It was still weird, but not so much anymore. Ignoring it, Hollowkit briefly caught Thornscar's eye from where she was sharing a squirrel with Thistleheart, and then the appearance of more cats, these carrying prey, caught his attention. He stood, tail lifting, but the sour expressions on their faces kept him from bounding over as he would normally. He caught a few words, mostly about the flood and the affect it had had on the prey. Most of the warriors had been grumbling about it, and he had heard Thornscar fretting about the openness of the clearing and the danger from predators. He didn't quite understand- he missed the camp, sure, but it wasn't so bad here. It was an unexpected adventure, and he'd been all too glad to take the chance to explore as much as his mother allowed.
A new face appeared from the makeshift nursery- a bramble bush hastily woven together to provide shelter for the queens and kits- and Hollowkit's expression slid into a frown. Roachkit. The other tom, three moons old like Hollowkit and close enough in appearance that more than one cat had exclaimed, "You could be brothers!" Upon realizing that Roachkit had the same drive to be the best he could for the Clan, Hollowkit had tried to get close to him- but Roachkit's relentless taunting of Breezekit had ruined that and now he kept his distance.
A raspy growl rolled in Hollowkit's throat and he glared at the other tom-kit, ears pinned back and small pointed fangs flashing from under his upper lip. I'm a soldier till its over I will never fall fearless hearts holding on through the night Hollowkit NightClan

Roachkit The pineneedle clearing was where apprentices trained to become warriors. It was a place meant for honing your skills - not lounging around drying off. Roachkit's ears still buzzed with Darkstar's call, his heart still pounding from the apprentice ceremony. It hadn't been his, unfortunately - it had been that useless squeaky ball of fur, Cricketkit, and her slugbrained brothers Badgerkit and Spiderkit - but it had stoked the fire in his heart. Soon, his mother had cooed, rubbing his flank with her feathery tail. Soon my son, you'll be an apprentice just like them.
No, not like them, he'd retorted with a quick thrust of his jaw. Better. Better than them.
Roachkit extracted himself from Marshflower, ignoring her efforts to make up for lost sleep (the harsh brightness of the sun had penetrated the makeshift nursery right up to sunset). Now wasn't a time for sleeping! Now was a time for training. Maybe if Rainfur or Darkstar saw how ready he was, they'd realize he could begin warrior training moons ahead of Thornscar's litter. They were all cowardly and boring, he could hardly believe they came from the same lines as Darkstar and Cobrastrike.
Roachkit wriggled through the entrance, brownish-copper eyes narrowing into slits against the surprisingly bright moonlight. When his eyes adjusted, however, he saw his own shadow staring back at him - or something like it. It was Hollowkit, Thornscar's only tom-kit, baring his teeth at him like he was some kind of warrior. Roachkit's blood churned and he took a challenging step forward. "Oh I'm so scared," crowed the brown tom, tail swishing behind him with mocking glee. "I don't have time for a no-voice like you, I'm going to train." With that, the sable tom kit strode forward until he was almost nose to nose with Hollowkit, their whiskers nearly touching. "Move." He growled back.
Or I'll make you. 3 moons nightclan || Taxx 300 Words

Roachkit was quick to lock eyes on Hollowkit, a sneer crossing his face in response to Hollowkit's growl. Unintimidated, Hollowkit sneered right back, tail flicking back and forth in a restless motion. You should be, he retorted, wishing he could say the words aloud. It didn't bother him, usually, being unable to reply to what was said to or around him. He had learned to communicate well enough to make his mother, father, and sisters understand him. But now he wished he had a voice- if only because Roachkit's taunt stung. Because he couldn't deny or refute it.
At the boastful statement- like he could do any sort of training- Hollowkit let a flash of mocking amusement cross his face. He would have laughed, if he hadn't been wary of Roachkit leaping at him in the middle of it, but this was good enough. His meaning ought to be clear enough.
Smaller than Roachkit, though with wider shoulders, Hollowkit rose to all four paws and faced the other tom-kit. Tail up and bushed, ears back, he met the bigger kit's eyes without a flinch. Make me, he growled. I'm not scared of you. I'm a soldier till its over I will never fall fearless hearts holding on through the night Hollowkit NightClan

Roachkit Thought that it was clear, nobody said that life was fair Roachkit's spine arched. Have it your way, runt! A dark brown tail lashed to and fro, quick as an eel. A real warrior didn't give a warning; Roachkit lowered his head and lunged, the hard part of his skull between his ears - flattened to prevent snagging - colliding with Hollowkit's chest as he rammed the smaller tom, trying to bowl him over like a badger. Before Hollowkit could recover, Roachkit was pouncing on him in a heartbeat, even as his ears rang from that little impact.
"Roachkit?" His mother's sleepy voice cut through the battle, but he stubbornly ignored it. He had to do this! He couldn't let anyone push him around, couldn't let anyone make him weak, even if that meant disobeying his own mother. Marshflower's scent bathed over him but the she-cat didn't interrupt their fight.
"Toms will be toms," rumbled Sablefoot; a few other scents blended in as their little scuffle caught the attention of the Clan.
Father's watching me! Roachkit felt a pulse of pride and anxiety. He had to thrash this little leech if he was going to impress the warriors. They had to see that he was going to be the greatest apprentice NightClan had ever seen. He was going to show them all what true strength looked like! Spiderbite's scent stung Roachkit's nose like skunkspray and he lashed out at Hollowkit, trying to sink his teeth into the other kit's ear in the hopes of making him squeal like a trapped mouse.
I can't be weak!
To anyone watching, it was clear that this fight was not like the usual nursery antics of kits. There was bad blood between them, and though their bodies were soft and kittenish - their claws prickled like thorns, and their teeth stung like shards of ice. 3 moons kit nightclan background image | 298 words | Taxx | table by phoenix

Hollowkit hadn't expected Roachkit to leap at him. He was caught completely off guard, bowled over and pinned on his back with the bigger kit holding him down. Momentarily stunned by his head smacking into the ground, Hollowkit could only blink a few times, hind paws weakly pushing against Roachkit's belly.
Then with a gasp- mixed with pain as teeth pierced his ear- he began to squirm. His hind claws unsheathed as he pounded them into the soft belly above him, and his front paws planted on Roachkit's muzzle, trying to sink his claws into the thinner skin there but trying to push him away too. His ear hurt but even if he'd been able to, Hollowkit would have tried hard to keep from giving voice to the pain. Teeth gritted, Hollowkit flashed a hateful look up at the other kit and then lunged.
His first attempt was for Roachkit's ear- see how he liked it! But he couldn't reach, so he went for the next best thing: the cheek was was already so close to his jaws. His fangs closed mostly on fur with just a little bit of skin between- hopefully just enough to stop Roachkit from tearing free- and he clamped his jaws closed as hard as he could, the claws of his left still pricking Roachkit's muzzle while his right paw moved to Roachkit's neck. you got that last dance look in your eyes BrAmBlEKiT nightclan she-cat 4 moons The energetic little kit was much affected by the sudden change of the new NightClan camp. She had always itched for the chance to explore beyond the cool underground home, but now that she had what she wished for, she missed the comforting darkness of the camp. She hadn't been able to sleep well over the past few days, and the nights were full of exhausted tottering to and from the pitiful fresh-kill pile with her littermates. One of her so-called denmates, Roachkit, had been causing her quite a bit of frustration lately. He had one of those attitudes that made her want to do something to swipe that smug smirk off his face. She had more competition than just Hollowkit now, and she wasn't sure if she liked that.
It was the sound of scuffling and screeching paws that drew her sleepy attention. Immediately a bolt of energy shot through the little kit, and she sprang to her feet with wide eyes. Hollowkit? Roachkit? She could pick out the familiar brown notes of her brother's pelt anywhere, even against the strikingly similar markings of Roachkit. They're fighting! Not knowing what to do, the she-kit charged across the clearing with a high-pitched yowl. Glancing around, she noticed that most of the adult cats were watching with calm, untroubled eyes. Tail lashing wildly, Bramblekit aimed to latch on to Roachkit's side, tiny needle-like claws digging into his pelt if she was successful. "Let go of him before I add you to the fresh-kill pile, you stupid mouse-heart!" She hissed, yellow eyes blazing with annoyance. No cat hurt her littermates! She would shred anyone who made Hollowkit bleed or Breezekit cry!

Roachkit Thought that it was clear, nobody said that life was fair Hollowkit's back claws gouged the tender skin of Roachkit's belly, making him yowl out in surprise and scramble backward. Frogbrain! I should have protected my belly! A warrior always protects his belly! Before he could fully recover enough to start pummeling Hollowkit again, the brown runt hurtled right at Roachkit's face; Roachkit flinched back, his hiss turning to a yelp as teeth latched onto his cheek and a paw pressed into his throat.
And then Bramblekit's scent and claws collided with him, knocking Roachkit down into a pile of limbs and flaying paws as the siblings joined forces. I'm losing! Something inside the young tom writhed and howled in protest, stoked to a fervor, a desperation-tune beating a tattoo across his heart. I can't lose. I can't lose. I can't lose. Blinded by this mantra, Roachkit wrenched his jaw out of Hollowkit's piercing teeth, his eyes watering at the intense sting as skin and fur tore free. There was a weird scent in the air, like fresh-caught prey but... different.
Roachkit retaliated with teeth and claws, as instinct commanded. He sank his teeth into Hollowkit's shoulder; the more Bramblekit hissed and tried to pummel him, the tighter Roachkit tried to hold on. He couldn't fight them both, but maybe if he defeated just one--
"Stop this at once!"
A harsh cry struck the kits like thunder, and then the furious bat of a chestnut-black paw split the pile of kits with cuffs around the ears. "What do you think you three are doing? Roachkit, Hollowkit, Bramblekit, you're Clanmates, and Clanmates do not attack each other in this way."
Roachkit, tufts of fur falling to settle around his adrenaline-rattled form, turned owlish eyes upon Shadowchaser, taken aback by the stern rebuke from a cat that rarely showed such a side. He's just a healer, what does he know about fighting? Roachkit's body hurt. He wanted to run away, hide behind Marshflower and lick his wounds. But that was what cowards did.
Instead, he shot hateful glares at Hollowkit and Bramblekit, hissing to the she-cat, "you only jumped in because your stupid brother was losing! I'll--"
"Silence," said his father. Roachkit begrudgingly snapped his jaws shut, watching as Sablefoot and Shadowchaser exchanged words.
"The world is harsh. They need to be ready for anything."
"Ah, you're right, I forgot." Shadowchaser's tail cut through the air behind him, his expression taut with sarcasm. "TreeClan has an army of vicious, lethal kit-warriors. We'd better make sure ours are prepared." The medicine cat's tail swept around Hollowkit, nudging him along. "Hollowkit, come with me. Roachkit, wait here with your mother. Bramblekit, tell Thornscar what's happened. If any more fights break out, you're all going to have to eat mugwort."

Everything was happening so fast. Hollowkit had just managed to get a grip on Roachkit's cheek, growling with his tail bushed out, and then suddenly Bramblekit was there and Roachkit was knocked off his paws, tearing free of Hollowkit's fangs before charging back in. The two tom kits collided and Hollowkit's eyes flared wide at the shock of pain as needle teeth pierced his shoulder.
He lashed out with a paw, fighting to yank free and unable to help the garbled stream of noise: a mix of growling, breathy hisses and half-whimpers as pain and fury washed through him. He'd forgotten anyone else but his sister and Roachkit was around until a hefty paw was suddenly shoved into the middle of them, separating the three kits quickly, and Hollowkit stumbled away from the other tom kit, hopping on three legs with the fourth held to his chest. He glanced up at Shadowchaser, barely hearing his scolding through the rush of blood in his ears, but when Roachkit piped up again he threw a hateful look at the other kit and hissed.
His shoulder hurt and his ear burned; his small form was shaking as the rush from the fight died down. He hadn't intended to get drawn into an actual fight, but Roachkit had asked for it. He'd started it! Hollowkit had only been defending himself. Didn't Shadowchaser understand that? How much had he seen? At the nudge of his tail, Hollowkit began to limp after the medicine cat, ears back at the pain that lanced through his shoulder at each step but refusing to not use it- not with Roachkit watching. He wouldn't give that mousedung the satisfaction.
He realized, suddenly, that the clearing was darker than it had been a moment ago, and he looked up to see clouds passing over the face of the moon. A chill swept through him: he knew cats took that as a sign of StarClan's anger if cats fought at a Gathering. Were they giving him the same message, telling him he'd been wrong to fight Roachkit after all? Shame flooded him, making his injuries feel that much worse, and his ears drooped as he trailed after Shadowchaser into the medicine cats' den. you got that last dance look in your eyes BrAmBlEKiT nightclan she-cat 4 moons It was nothing like she imagined. The kits collided full-force, fur smacking against fur, small claws slashing out wildly, inexperienced in inflicting true pain. But even with minimal practice, they were capable of doing some damage. Blood splashed against her nose the second she hurled herself into the action, the shock of it causing her to recoil like a snake waiting to strike. The smell of it was dizzying. Swallowing back a wave of nausea, Bramblekit lashed out with a dark brown paw, not even sure who she had connected with when she heard the grunt of her victim. She just wanted them to stop. And she felt so angry, angrier than she had ever been in her short life. She was so angry that they lost their home, even if it was only temporary like her mother kept telling her. How could Roachkit and Hollowkit be stupid enough to start a fight now, when everything was already looking so glum?
She felt Roachkit go down beneath her paws and squashed him with her weight, digging her unsheathed claws into his ragged pelt. "Give up, frog-heart!" She hissed, but he resisted anyway. His claws snagged her ear, slicing a tiny split in the tip which welled swiftly with blood. Shock flashed through her. The wound was tiny, but the pain was sharp and piercing. Through the throbbing of it she could barely even muster a basic thought. She could see despite the blur of motion that Roachkit had latched on to her brother like a dog, and she immediately set about pummelling him with her unsheathed claws to attempt to dislodge him.
Blinded with fury and fear and the smell of blood and the flashing, throbbing pain in her ear and muzzle... she hadn't noticed the arrival of Shadowchaser. "Stop this at once!" The sharp voice sliced deeper than Roachkit's claws ever could, and Bramblekit unlatched herself from the ball of furious blood-stained fur that was her denmate. Her ears flattened in shame and she couldn't bring herself to lock eyes with her uncle at all. She shuffled her paws, trying to find anywhere else to direct her gaze. "What do you think you three are doing? Roachkit, Hollowkit, Bramblekit, you're Clanmates, and Clanmates do not attack eachother in this way." A surge of unfairness rose in Bramblekit's chest, giving her courage enough to raise her voice. "B-But- I was trying to stop them!" She protested, trembling with anger and shame. "I really was." She glanced at her paws, her pale fur very lightly stained with a few droplets of blood. She bowed her head. I made it worse. I should've told Thornscar... but I didn't want to run away from a fight! That's what cowards do... right? She glared at her paws. She was no coward! They were Thornscar's kits, kin to some of the greatest warriors NightClan had ever seen. They never ran from a fight!
Roachkit's voice jolted her out of her thoughts, bringing a new sort of anger to her sharp golden eyes. She whirled to face Roachkit. "Shut up!" She snapped, tail lashing. "I jumped in because Darkstar says NightClan cats are strong together, but you're all alone!" She shoved her muzzle into his face, fur bristling so that she looked much like a pinecone. It wasn't the most intimidating stance, but the rage that blazed in her eyes was enough for ten forest fires. "You'll always be alone-"
Sablefoot cut her off as well as his son, and Bramblekit simply hissed at Roachkit and Hollowkit, promptly turning her back on them. She didn't hear what Sablefoot and Shadowchaser said to eachother, but she could feel anxiety growing in her stomach as she imagined what punishments they could possibly be conjuring up for the three of them. But when Shadowchaser turned back to face them, he seemed only resigned. Bramblekit flicked her nicked ear, nodding when the medicine cat told her go find her mother. But it turned out, as Hollowkit disappeared into the makeshift "medicine den" with Shadowchaser, she didn't really have to.
"What happened here?" Bramblekit sunk into the ground slightly at the ferocity in her mother's tone. She turned her golden eyes toward the tortoiseshell queen, who was trotting hurriedly to the scene of chaos. Thornscar looked as though she were ready to lay waste to the entire Clan. Her green eyes were sharper than Bramblekit had ever seen them before. "I... I can e-explain..." Bramblekit began, eyes rounding as she tried to hide the nick in her ear by turning her head aside. "You'd better. From what I've heard, you two could be looking at delayed apprenticeship." Thornscar frowned sternly, and guided Bramblekit away from Roachkit and his mother so her daughter could explain in private.
