As lighting flashed and thunder boomed there was no movement outside at all, no shadows moved or birds chirped. The world seemed to have stood still with the passing storm taking its place in the sky.
In a small cavern in the side of the mountain lay a beautiful she cat as she peered out into the pouring rain she wrinkled her face up against the rain. She disliked the scent of rain and the mess it brought with it. She knew far to well that when it stopped raining the soil on the mountain would be soaked and muddy. It stained her pelt and she hated looking bad, she spent much of her time grooming, making herself look good for the toms.
Misty looked up as another flash flew across the sky, stupid Starclan sending rain now! she thought to herself. Ever since she had been thrown out of Rainclan as an apprentice she has loathed Starclan and anything to do with the clans. She padded to the back of the cavern and began licking her paws clean of the dirt. She groomed herself down trying to occupy her mind until the rain should stop, you never know who could want cover, she thought to herself flirtily as she did so.

As soon as he reached the dark hole that was the cave he had somehow spotted through the pouring rain, he collapsed. He hadn't even stopped to check if anyone was in it, he had just raced in and collapsed near the entrance, just out of the rain. Demon take him if he occupied this cave, Maverick couldn't even lift a paw to bat at the big cat. Though, he didn't think it would be necessary, the cave seemed a little small for the lynx. His breathing was ragged and he knew he barely had the strength left to crawl farther into the cave, so he waited a while, for a little more strength to return so he didn't have to drag himself back and he could walk with some dignity.
Panting heavily, he worked his way to his paws and started a little farther into the shallow cave before he realized there was another cat inside. Pausing, he lay down quickly, knowing that if he wasn't moving, his legs wouldn't support him just standing there, "Hello? I hope you don't mind my sharing this cave with you... I don't... I can't go any further...." He hoped it wasn't a rogue, rogues were never good at sharing anything, but if it was another loner then perhaps there was hope for him, "My name... is Maverick...," he panted, trying to sound polite after barging in as he had.

As another boom sounded in the sky Misty looked up with her pale yellow eyes. As another cat collapsed in the entrance of the cave she sat up right in a defensive position, her ears flat to her head. Oh no! This had better not be trouble! she thought, I don’t want to go out in that! She had heard stories about a strange cat living around here, a cat much bigger than any warrior. She hoped it was not him coming for her as she knew she would not have any chance of escape, it would be a dead end for her.
As the cat moved closer to her, even though it was panting heavily it could still be a threat to her. She fixed her unblinking yellow gaze on the cat and pressed herself against the back wall of the cavern. As the cat laid down she relaxed a little, moving forwards to view the new comer. ’No… not at all!’ she mewed more confidently than you could imagine from a cat that had just been worried and hiding at the back of a cave. ’Nice to meet you Maverick!’ she mewed in a flirty tone, ’I’m Misty!’ she added. ’You look… well… wet…’ she mewed stating the obvious, he must be cold! ’Why were you out in the rain! It looks like you were out there for ages!’

Another loner... well, it seems my luck is turning around! He purred ever so softly at the thought, thinking of the kits Dawnpelt was now carrying. It made him swell with pride. Shaking his head slightly, he looked at the cat who introduced herself as Misty, she looked young, and she was very pretty. His old ways of flirting with every pretty she-cat he saw wanting to come through, he pushed it back. He had Dawnpelt now, and he would never betray her, especially since she was going to have his kits.
"I was meeting a cat... from the Clans. It started to rain when I was with her and I didn't have much time to find shelter before getting soaked through. As you can see... I didn't find it in time," he meowed light-heartedly. He knew he should groom himself to dry off, but he just didn't have the strength right now. Laying his head on his paws, he sighed, so tired... but he didn't want to be rude after barging in on Misty, so he stayed awake.

Misty looked up at Maverick. He started to purr which confused her a little, he was soaking wet and exhausted, why was he happy? Maybe he’s a flirt like me! she thought hopefully, she could have some fun with him, then she began to purr herself. Her yellow eyes sparkled with happiness; she just hoped that he would not want to get rid of her like any other cat she came across.
As he began his story she stopped purring, if he had someone he ‘loved’ she would not be able to have as much fun as she thought. He has someone… from the clans? She blinked, she was confused now and she couldn’t sit back and not understand, she had to ask. ’Sorry…’ she began, ’Did you say from the clans! Why were you meeting a clan cat? Did she chase you away?’ her curiosity was shining through and was so obvious. If he was with her, as in mates she knew that this she cat was disobeying her clan. Why doesn’t Starclan punish her! At least she has a reason to be punished! she thought. She had bitter resentment for that cat; she had been thrown out with no real reason at all.

Maverick laughed, "No... she did not chase me away.... I was meeting her because...," he paused, Dawnpelt didn't want other cats knowing about them, but if he didn't say her name and her Clan, maybe it would be okay. Besides, this was just another loner, what could she possibly do to get Dawnpelt in trouble?
"I was meeting her because we are mates. She told me she is going to have my kits!" He sighed happily and rolled onto his side. It was actually really nice to be able to tell another cat that he was going to be a father, even if Misty didn't care at all. It was still nice to have someone to talk to, "She's worried about it but... I'll make sure nothing happens to her... I'll take care of her...." Though now he was talking more to himself. Blinking, he looked over at Misty. She had a faint scent of the Clans, and he wondered about her, "Are you from the Clans, Misty?" He raised his head, his glowing amber eyes gazing curiously at her.

Misty listened intently to this other loner, she could tell there was a story here. As he began her eyes showed that she was listening to his every word, almost unblinking she willed him to continue when he paused. ’Yes…’ she mewed curiously.
The silver she cats mouth fell open slightly in a shocked but ‘I thought so sort of way.’ ’Oh my goodness! She is going to get into so much trouble and there is nothing you can do to stop it!’ she mewed not really caring if he got upset, she knew the truth hurt. ’I’d like to see you protect her and the kits from her whole clan!’ She was finding this quite amusing, although she was not entirely sure why. ’She’ll be joining you out here soon then!’ she finished.
As Maverick changed the subject she looked down, she did not want to talk about her past, but now she had possibly worried him a little she guessed she had better. ’Yea I used to be from Rainclan,’ she mewed, ’I was kicked out when I was an apprentice, I didn’t even get to have a warriors name…’ she mewed a deep loathing for her mother rising. ’It was just after they arrived at the mountains, I have been travelling since then.’ she finished.

His tail swishing from side ot side at the other cat's words, he hoped Dawnpelt wouldn't be joining him soon.... She and their kits would be much safer in the Clan, safe from Demon. As Misty began to speak of herself, however, Maverick scowled slightly, remembering his own past.
"I was only a to-be when I left the Tribe of Rushing Water. I wanted to be a cave-guard, but Stoneteller told me I had to be a prey-hunter." His eyes barrowed and he stared at the roof of the cave contemptuously, "Who says one cat can decide my whole life for me? Who gives one cat that power? It should be every cat's own decision what they are, who they want to be!" He sat up suddenly, anger from his past giving him a little energy. With it, he began to groom himself, get himself dry.

Misty saw Mavericks tail swishing and tried to hide her smile; she was never good at comforting so she didn’t even try. She licked her paw to get rid of the smile on her face and then rubbed it over her ear elegantly.
The silver she cat listened, although she had never heard of the Tribe of Rushing Water. It sounded interesting at least, much better than the clan she was in, although she was quite looking forward to being a warrior. ’Yea your right…’ she mewed, she had never really thought about that, she was used to her mother forcing her to do whatever she wanted. She was enjoying the freedom of being a loner, although some protection would be nice sometimes, but she knew as long as her mother was in the clan she wouldn’t have got that in Rainclan anyway.
Misty saw the anger bubble in Maverick; she sat up straight too in case the tom cat was getting so angry that he needed to swipe at someone. After all she didn’t really know that much about him to be able to know she was safe. When he started to dry himself she relaxed again, he was no threat now. She peered past him out of the entrance to the cave, she could see it was still raining but only slightly now, it seemed that the storm had past, leaving the muddy ground behind.

Maverick finished his grooming with a sigh, "It... gets lonely though... out here alone. Sometimes...," he looked out the cave entrance as well, staring at the fading rain. He stayed silent for a long time, just staring out at it, "Sometimes... I think about joining a Clan... like maybe it wouldn't be so bad. The Clans are different from the Tribe. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.... It seems hard to be lonely in the Clans, or the Tribe. I know it's not impossible, I was lonely in the Tribe, but... that's just because... no one understood...." He trailed off finally, shaking his head and looking back at Misty. He didn't think she'd agree with him about joining the Clans since she was already in one and didn't seem like she was too eager to rejoin it.
"What was is like, being a part of the Clan? I mean... it seems like you didn't have the best experience with them, just as I didn't with the Tribe... but there must be something you miss about it? I miss the kinship... playing with the other to-bes and the training.... I was... always sort of an outsider, because I was the only one that questioned Stoneteller's decision, but they still accepted me.... What about you? Anything?" He blinked curiously at her.

Misty tilted her head to the side as she watched the apparently troubled tom cat. He seemed to really miss his past, and this Tribe that he spoke of. At the mention of joining a clan she smirked, to be with his ‘love’! she thought, she was not a cat that believed in love, she had never been shown any before. ’Yea… there are always cats around to talk too…’ she mewed honestly, even she couldn’t deny that, she had her brothers and sisters along with the other apprentices.
As he asked her about the clan she looked at him, her yellow eyes questioning him. ’For me…’ she began, ’It was horrible, my mother was not ready to have kits and she had one of the biggest litters. I was neglected from the start. Nobody cared for me at all… in the end the leader got fed up with me complaining about my mother and threw me out…’ she mewed thinking back on her harsh past. ’So I’m not the best cat to ask about life in the clan. Others would probably like it more than me…’ she admitted. ’What about your mate?’ Why don’t you ask her about life in the clan?’ she mewed bitterly.

His eyes narrowed in sympathy, "I see...," he looked away for a heartbeat, "Then... it doesn't seem like Clan life is any better than Tribe life to me." He thought over what Misty had told him briefly, then shook his head, "Not any better at all.... I don't ask my mate because I already know she loves it. She would most likely tell me nothing but good things... maybe even try to get me to join her and I... thanks to you, I see that Clan life is not something I'd enjoy. Not knowing that cats can be treated like you were. I wouldn't want to be a part of that." He shook his head again, purposefully. He didn't want anything to do with cats who treated others that way, no cat deserved that.
He sighed again, lowering his head to his paws again and closing his eyes, "I hope you don't mind... I'm really tired... I haven't gotten any sleep in over two days.... Just when I was about to, I was chased by Demon, that monster cat, and now I'm running on nothing...." He shivered slightly, partly because of thinking about Demon, and partly because a cold wind blew into the cave and his fur was still damp.

Misty gave a half hearted smile, ’I guess… I was just unlucky, Starclan must have disliked me right from the start…’ she mewed looking out of the cave and into the darkening sky. ’I’m sure you’d be fine in your mates clan,’ she mewed. Although when they find out she has been with you you’ll both be in trouble. she couldn’t seem to keep the negative thoughts out of her head, she never had been. ’Not everyone was bad…’ she mewed thinking about it the only cat that had ever been nice to her, or so she could remember was the poor sibling that had died through neglect, since then she had been alone.
As Maverick sighed again she looked at him curiously until he spoke. ’Yea that’s no problem,’ she mewed, ’Rest. You seem like you need the energy.’ She recalled the moment when he had barged into the cave to shelter from the pouring rain, he had collapsed on the floor then so he must be even more tired now. ’I’ll sleep too…’ she mewed stifling a yawn just as the cool wind blew.

((I'm fast fowarding to waking up if you don't mind ^.^))
Maverick raised his head and let out a large yawn. Sleep had really felt good after so long without it. He had thought maybe he could sleep for a while moon. His fur was mostly dried and the sun was shining outside, so he stood, careful not to wake Misty, and padded out of the cave. Once outside, he leapt up onto a rock right above the cave and lay down purring. The rock was warm and the sun was shining down brightly. He lay on his side, letting his dark fur soak up the sun's warmth and get completely dried out. It felt so nice to know he was out here, alive, and free.
Thinking more on the subject, he felt even happier knowing Dawnpelt had kits on the way. Maybe it wouldn't be as bad as he thought if she had to come and join him in the mountains. They would be free to be together with no worries about what any other cat thought, and he could help her raise their kits. Maybe thye could start their own little Clan, one where every cat was free to do as they pleased, come and go when they wanted, hunt for themselves, but also have the kinship of the each other when they were lonely and their protection from that Demon cat. Wouldn't that just be great? Misty could join them too if she wanted. Though it was probably just wishful thinking, he liked it and it made him happy. What a perfect solution to everything. Maybe he should just start his own Clan... he would call it... MountainClan, because the whole of the mountains would be their territory, and they wouldn't mark their borders and wouldn't even care if others trespassed, but they'd still be a Clan, or a Tribe, or something.

((Nope that’s great in fact! Sorry my posts not that great!))
As the sun rose higher into the sky and more of it leaked into the whole in the mountain side where the silver she cat lay she stirred. Her yellow eyes blinked open in the light, it was a change from the darkness she had seen before she had been to sleep and her eyes needed to adjust. Her mouth opened wide into a yawn showing many very sharp teeth.
Once her eyes had finally adjusted she looked out of the entrance to the cavern, she could see a shadow cast from above, but she could not see what was casting it. She peered around the cave for Maverick but she could not see him. Maybe that’s him? she thought heading towards the entrance of the cave. As the warm sinlight from outside hit her pelt it made her feel warm and happy as her pelt appeared to glow. She leaped onto the rock to sit with Maverick. ’Whatcha doing?’ she asked more cheerily than yesterday. The tom cat seemed to be in a bit of a dream world, lost in thought maybe. About his ‘love’! she guessed, all cats she’d seen that were in so called love acted like this. They would dream about them and talk about them all the time, it made Misty feel strange. She had never felt love and did not even believe it existed.
