HERONDIVE Brilliant blue eyes squinted against a cutting wind as the white and cream she-cat stepped out of the warrior's den. Her pelt fluffed up instinctively against the cool claw-slice of wind, Herondive stifling a shiver as she padded forward to avoid blocking the path to anyone else thinking of leaving the warrior's den. Not that there were many cats there at the moment; it was somewhere passed sun high, but she'd been on the Dawn Patrol, and had decided to clamber back into her nest to recoup some of her lost sleep following her return from the early morning walk.
Her tail flicked slowly behind her, the she-cat surveying the camp and mentally sorting through what she should be doing in that moment. Movement near the Rock Pile caught her attention, the young warrioress' gaze sliding over to the large form of her father stepping down the ledge. She marveled momentarily at how easy he made it look; did all StoneClan cats develop that same sure-footedness over moons of living amongst the same stones? Sure, she could maneuver the territory just fine, but she doubted she looked that comfortable with it all. So lost in her thoughts was she, it took her a moment to register that the large tom was headed her way.
Blinking in surprise, she nonetheless pushed up on her toes slightly to touch her nose to his shoulder as he touched his to the top of her head. "Good afternoon, Herondive. Rest well?" He purred, and she offered him a smile that bordered on awkward. "Hi, Daddy. I guess so, though the wind made it a bit more difficult." She heard him chuckle, peering down at her with pride glimmering in those pale amber eyes of his. "Indeed, it has been howling for quite some time now."
Nodding her head in agreement, she flicked her tail behind her as she subconsciously stepped toward him to hide behind his broad-shouldered frame. A thoughtful sound left the StoneClan leader as he watched her. "You know, I find one of the best things to overcome a chill is to keep on your paws and get some exercise. How about we head out and patrol the border, hm? I know you went out this morning again, but it never hurts to go again." He paused then, glancing toward the apprentices' den. "Why don't you fetch Hazelpaw, Honeypaw too. We can all head out together."
Ears pricked in intrigue at the mention of her friends, blue eyed gaze following her father's amber one. With another nod, she meowed softly. "Alright, sounds good. I'll go get them. Meet you by the entrance?" It was his turn to nod now, and with one final affectionate touch, she turned tail and trotted off to the den she used to share with her friends. Peeking her head in to find many of the apprentices seeking shelter from the sharp winds, it took her a moment to find who she was looking for. When she did find them, she stepped forward just a little and offered the two she-cats an awkward smile.
"Hey guys. Hawkstar and I are heading out of camp for a border patrol. He told me to fetch you guys too. So uh... Guess we're stuck on patrol today." With that, she backed out of the den again, pausing to let her friends exit before motioning with her tail toward the camp entrance. "Come on, he's waiting for us by the entrance." She told them, leading to way. warrior of stoneclan Fawn Phoenix | background image | table by phoenix Note: 18 moons

Herondive! Herondive! Herondive! Honeypaw waved her tail to and fro as she chanted her best friend's name, her eyes shining as she watched the pretty ginger-pointed she-cat accept her new position as deputy. Feeling as if she might burst with pride, Honeypaw excitedly bumped shoulders with Hazelpaw, but her fur brushed against jet black instead of Hazelpaw's mottled tortoiseshell coat.
Oh! That's not Hazelpaw! Just as the thought occurred to her, Honeypaw stared into the deep green eyes of Vipertail, the handsome young warrior smiling at her so softly, she was certain it was for her and her alone. He leaned over and pressed his nose to her ear, murmuring. "Let's go to the sky springs, before Herondive tries to assign us to a patrol."
Feeling warmth beneath her fur, Honeypaw nodded eagerly, purring as loudly as she dared as they started to back away out of the crowd. Herondive had plenty of responsibilities now - and Hazelpaw, hey, where was Hazelpaw? - Honeypaw threw a glance around StoneClan's camp for the missing apprentice, and found her standing outside Dawnblossom's den. With a jolt, she took a step towards her, worried that Hazelpaw had had another health scare and needed to be under the medicine cat's care - but Hazelpaw looked happy, her coat glossy, her eyes bright with good health.
She's Dawnblossom's new apprentice! Stunned and delighted, Honeypaw almost went over to touch noses with Hazelpaw, but Vipertail called after her. "Well? Are you coming with me or not, Honeycloud?"
Honeycloud! My warrior name is Honeycloud! With a burst of speed, she hurried to Vipertail's side, twining her tail with his. He purred, leading the way out of camp.
This is so perfect... it can't get much better than this.
"Hey guys. Hawkstar and I are heading out of camp for a border patrol. He told me to fetch you guys too. So uh... Guess we're stuck on patrol today."
Honeypaw froze, turning back to her friend-now-deputy, Herondive. No! You have to let me go on this date with Vipertail!
Hazelpaw squirmed beside her, and Honeypaw was yanked back to reality, startled awake into a wide-eyed expression, a scrap of moss cleaning to her ear. "Huh? What?"
Hazelpaw murmured something about going on patrol with Hawkstar, and Honeypaw, still warm from her nest and giddy from her dream, felt her tail droop a bit. O-Oh... Trying not to be upset with her friend for ruining such a good dream, Honeypaw shook herself awake, exiting the den to meet Herondive's father beside the camp entrance.
While the others were milling about, the tabby and white she-cat got a good long look at all of her friends. Maybe that was a vision of the future? I just KNOW they'd be great at it... Herondive would be an amazing deputy, and Hazelpaw is so kind and brave and determined, she could memorize all of those herb names, no problem. And maybe some day, Vipertail could look at her as more than just a lonely apprentice.
Honeypaw nuzzled both of her friends to say good morning, in a better mood now that they were leaving the camp behind. "Hey Herondive? Hazelpaw? What do you think we'll be like, 20 moons from now?" Her ears were pricked forward with interest, eager to hear what and if they ever thought about those things.

i'm through accepting limits 'cause someone says they're so The biting wind was enough to send anyone back to the relative warmth and protection of their den, let alone a young she-cat who enjoyed not having the bitter gusts chill her to the bone, thank you very much. As the days grew shorter and the weather more unforgiving, the apprentice found herself becoming fonder of her comfortable nest and less willing to leave it for the chilly leaf-fall air every morning. In the long moons since she had first begun training, her excitement toward her lessons had begun to wane ever so slightly – it was more work and marginally less fun than she had imagined – though the determination that coursed through her veins kept her working as hard as ever. She may have started training late, but she would be made a warrior right on time.
But not today.
Today, she had been allowed to sleep in a little and enjoy a lazy morning in her nest as she dozed on and off beside Honeypaw. Halfway between wakefulness and sleep, she was vaguely aware of her friend’s warm presence pressed up against her, and though it contrasted with the cold emptiness of Maplepaw’s nest on her other side, the young apprentice was still content. Utterly comfortable curled up in a ball with her tail over her nose, she idly mused that it would take nothing short of an earthquake to convince her to abandon this pleasant haze for the biting air that she knew would greet her the moment she stepped from the den. Yes, she could stay there, resting peacefully beside Honeypaw for the rest of her life…
A voice broke through the nice fog in her mind, and at first she dismissed it, believing it to be nothing more than the figment of a passing dream. But it persisted, and the longer she listened, the closer she found herself rising back to wakefulness. Letting out a discontented grumble, she opened her eyes and blinked up at Herondive’s familiar form. Huh? Ears flicked, and it took a moment for her to register what had actually roused her from her doze. Something about a border patrol, but as she watched, the warrior backed out of the den to give them room to leave. Pale green eyes shifted from one friend to the other as she turned to see Honeypaw still fast asleep beside her. With a paw, she poked the other she-cat, who abruptly jolted awake with confusion written plainly across her face.
Quiet laughter bubbled forth, and Hazelpaw grinned as she brushed the piece of moss from her friend’s ear. ”We’re going on a border patrol with Herondive and her dad,” She relayed, before letting out a sigh (really, the den was quite nice) and climbing to her paws. After shaking out her fur, she stumbled her way across the maze of tails and paws and joined her friends and mentor by the camp exit. With the cold air having chased away the last traces of sleep that had clung to her like the moss from Honeypaw’s nest, she looked up at Hawkstar with bright eyes and a small smile on her face. ”Where are we patrolling?” She asked him as they started off, a spring in her step. While she didn’t mind training with just the leader of StoneClan, it was not every day that she got to patrol with her two best friends.
From beside her, Honeypaw spoke up, and Hazelpaw glanced at her, ears flicking at the question. ”In 20 moons?” The apprentice gave it a moment’s thought. For all her hopes for the future, it was not something she gave much thought beyond her determination to earn her warrior’s name. ”We’ll still be best friends, that’s for sure,” She purred, voice warm. ”I think we’ll be the best warriors StoneClan’s ever seen.”

HERONDIVE Honeypaw's nuzzle was returned happily by the young warrioress, accented by a near-silent purr. Hazelpaw's voice chirped suddenly, asking Hawkstar a question about the patrol's direction. She could hear the warmth in her father's tone as he answered his apprentice, and it made Herondive feel... Happy. She considered the two apprentices to be part of her family; her father's wholehearted acceptance of both of them made her feel like he considered them a part of their family too. "I thought we could start with the Little Woods, and make our way to the Stone Stream and follow it along RainClan's border."
Following her greeting of Honeypaw, Herondive moved to give Hazelpaw a similar, friendly nuzzle before they all set off. Just as the group began their exit of the StoneClan camp, Honeypaw's voice chimed in, drawing Herondive's attention quickly. Hazelpaw was the first to answer, giving the older she-cat some time to mull over the question. In twenty moons? I'll be... Thirty-eight moons old. The thought made her grimace slightly, but she pushed passed it for Honeypaw's sake to give it some genuine thought. Part of Hazelpaw's answer made her nod in agreement, her blue eyes quickly flicking to the form her her father as he padded along ahead of them.
He's giving us some space. She mused, thankful again that this was her father. "I would be disappointed if we weren't still friends in twenty moons." She admitted, her creamy tail flicking from behind her. "Befriending you two was probably the smartest decision I've ever made." Not exactly one for the super sappy stuff, Herondive glanced towards her friends with a smile tinged by awkwardness. "Don't know what I'd do without you guys." Her pace was slow, the patrol beginning at a rather leisurely pace; Hawkstar's pace wasn't any faster, so obviously there was no rush.
"I just hope that in twenty moons... We all find happiness, in whatever form that might take. Doesn't matter what you accomplish; if you're not happy? What's the point?" Her pelt fluffed up against a particularly sharp gust of wind, before she glanced back toward Honeypaw. "What about you, Honeypaw. Where do you think we'll be in twenty moons?" She mewed curiously. Of the trio, Honeypaw seemed to have the biggest, most wonderful creativity. It was something Herondive admired, so she really was looking forward to hearing what it was the apprentice could offer.
Up ahead of them, the big sandy tabby occupied himself with paying attention to the surrounding area. It was a relief to the StoneClan leader, seeing his daughter relax in the company of these two she-cats. He worried about her on occasion, having even shared his concerns with Frozenrain. Seeing her like this... It reminded him of when she was still a kit, innocent and curious about the world surrounding her. Pale amber eyes settled on the Little Woods as they drew into view. Slowing his pace, the large tom waited for the three chatting she-cats to draw a little closer before meowing.
"Alright, this is still a patrol! Now that we're at the Little Woods, I want each of you to tell me something that you should keep in mind or look out for on patrol. Herondive will go last." warrior of stoneclan Fawn Phoenix | background image | table by phoenix Note: 18 moons

"I just hope that in twenty moons... We all find happiness, in whatever form that might take. Doesn't matter what you accomplish; if you're not happy? What's the point?"
”I think we’ll be the best warriors StoneClan’s ever seen.”
Honeypaw purred at her best friends' answers, nodding eagerly. That was Herondive - always taking a thoughtful approach, and then there was Hazelpaw, whose determination seemed to far exceed what she was physically capable of. At Herondive's inquiry, Honeypaw at once kept her mouth shut about her dream, well, the parts of it that pertained to Vipertail (she didn't need to have siblings of her own to know how weird it would be for Herondive to hear). With a conspiratorial whisper, she spoke to her friends. "Don't tell Wolfclaw, but I think you'd be a great deputy, Herondive. And Hazelpaw, you're going to be the bravest warrior StoneClan's ever had." With a soft wave of her tail, Honeypaw's heart hummed a joyful tune. "And I'll be cheering the both of you on, and making sure neither one of you forgets to relax and have fun every once in a while."
Speaking of fun, their conversations drew to a premature close as Hawkstar slowed the patrol, addressing the three she-cats with a question of his own.
Tell you something to keep in mind or lookout for on patrol? Honeypaw glanced at Herondive, more than content to follow the warrioress's lead, but their Clan leader's interjection had her taking a mental step back, ears pinning briefly as her mind drew a blank. Wait... I know this one!
"Keep an eye out for predator droppings. Foxdung, or animal tracks. And eagle shadows! The bigger they are on the ground, the closer the eagle is, right?" Honeypaw stole a quick look at Herondive and Hazelpaw, wanting confirmation from either one.
The shadow fact might not have been as correct as she thought... Wait, was it eagles or vultures? And how can you tell the difference between a crow's shadow and an eagle's shadow? White whiskers twitched, displaying displeasure at her answer in the slightly sullen quiver. I need to answer better! She didn’t want Hawkstar to think she wasn’t learning quickly enough or fast enough.
