Owlmind LightningClan || 81 Moons || Deputy
"All cats swift enough to race through the moors please gather here for a clan meeting."
It was a the raspy tone of Owlmind that rang out through the clearing of Lightningclan's open campsite. The lanky gray deputy sat calmly next to the larger form of her brother, Redstar as the two siblings sat atop the Hill Top, waiting for the multitude of different colored cats to crowd in around them. Sitting over nearby was the familiar form of Kindleflare as the medicine cat waited with bundles of herbs near her paws.
Wide amber pools were void of emotions as always, though there was a steady flickering of the end of her long tail that was curled around her nimble paws. Slowly, those liquid hues of hers ran over each cat that bounded forwards, curiosity within the gazes of some and confusion within the gazes of others. A couple of kits poked their heads from the nursery before Cloudyfeather quickly ushered them back inside despite their protests.
The strategic she-cat made a mental note to quickly address the issue of nine cramped kits within the walls of the nursery upon her return the next day.
The familiar pelts of Goldenblaze and Goosechase fluttered into the liquid amber vision of the deputy, their younger sister Greenpaw emerging from the apprentice den. A swell of pride rose within the old queen's chest, though the emotion didn't reach her elongated face, it still didn't seem like all that long ago the three vastly different mollies were simply bundles of fur curled against the curve of her belly.
They had grown into fine young she-cat's of Lightningclan.
Other familiar pelts flashed in and out of view as they merged with those around them. The lanky yet handsome feathered tomcat by the name of Nightrunner passed by Silverburr for a moment, flickering his plume tail and murmuring something pleasant before finding a seat. He had been her first apprentice during her eighteen moon, a fine warrior to have grown beside. The slender black shape of Batear as she slipped past her similarly featured sister, and of course the well rounded warriors Cloudthroat and Sunnyheart as they found spots. .
Once the clan had gathered and what seemed like a millions pairs of different colored orbs staring down the two high ranking siblings, Owlmind shifted to raise her lanky body into a standing position. Her tail flickered behind her as a white speckled maw parted to speak. "Cats of Lightnignclan, Redstar and I have come to you to discuss the future of our clan." Her tone was sharp as always, quick and to the point as she spoke from the Hill Top.
"As of tonight," Amber pools glanced at the silent form of Redstar as he sat comfortably beside her, poised as always while steadily watching the sea of cats below them. "Redstar has decided to step down and relinquish his title of leader. We shall be traveling with Kindleflare to the Moon Tree so that I may step up and take his place."
This plan would of course leave Lightningclan without any of it's higher ranked felines, but as always, the strategic deputy had a plan thought out. "In our absence, Wildcall will be in charge. I expect you to treat him with respect and to abide by his words while we are gone." Though Owlmind chose the tabby coated warrior for this task, it was simply because of his dedication and respect when it came to the rules. She trusted him to hold the clan together for a short period of time, though she did not see him as her future deputy.
That was still something she had to mule over, and would do so during her time too and from the white barked tree.
Wisdom. Courage. Strategy.

Beauty is a joy that forever increases It will never pass into nothingness
His head turned towards the pair standing at attention as Owlmind called a gathering for the clan's warriors and apprentices. Silverburr was frowning when he saw Redstar standing there; it's not often that they got to see the pair of them standing there looking so solemn. What happened? Concerned the silver dappled warrior stood up from where he lay relaxing in the coolness of Leaf-Bare to go and make his way towards the pair. He sat down and looked around at the other gathering cats sensing a mixture of emotions going through the cats as they gathered. Owlmind's voice finally breaking through the mumbling chatter he turned his attention to the deputy. He tipped his head curiously as his mind processed the words; a frown of alarm quickly gathering on his features as his eyes flashed from side to side between the two siblings.
"Stepping down?" he said startled looking between them before looking around at the expressions of everyone else. "What's the meaning of this? Why are you stepping down Redstar? We are owed an explanation at the least!"
Tipping his head respectfully to Owlmind he added quickly "Not that we won't support you or not stand by you Owlmind because of course we will! You have served us as deputy for a long time it's just... this is kind of sudden and out of the blue." I really wanted to use all of their individual templates rather than just one, so each separate response is in its own spoiler so it doesn't take up a bunch of thread room.
BatA chuckle fell from slightly parted black jaws, a smile pulling at the sides of her maw. Lying along the edge of camp among a small group of fellow Warriors, the slender black form of Batear stood out against the other lighter colored pelts in the group. Though the sun shined down against her back, warming her coat far more than just her dark coat alone did already, she still remained. Granted, she had been out in the sun all morning with the others, hunting and marking the borders. But it didn’t hurt to rest in the sun as well. Perhaps she would request that they move their conversing into the Warriors den to get some shade.
Just as her jaws began to part, a voice rang out through the camp. Large ears perked, vibrant green eyes turned to peer over in the direction the voice had come from. She was surprised to find that those who called out were the combination of Redstar and Owlmind. There was a slight veil of confusion that draped over her at this sight, for normally it was only Redstar who called meetings.
Intrigued and curious, Batear walked alongside the others towards where the rest of the clan began to gather, taking a seat among the crowd. Upon glancing over, she found Crowface sitting not too far away. She wondered where her sister had come from; she hadn’t seen her all day. Then again, she also hadn’t been in camp most of the morning, which was probably why.
Looking back to the Leader and Deputy pair, she waited for one of them to speak again, though she was once more caught off guard when it was Owlmind who spoke instead of Redstar. The future of the clan? Her head slightly tilted at this. Her first thought turned to matters with Stoneclan. It was clear to any with eyes that tensions were beginning to rise between the two clans, this event only progressed further no thanks to Crowface and the incident she caused at the border. Perhaps this was the topic of the meeting? But Owlmind had already called a meeting what felt like not too long ago with all of the Warriors discussing something like this. So what was this then?
Her ears only perked further at the final reveal of the reason behind the meeting. Redstar was stepping down? There were a few audible yet quiet gasps that sounded at her sides, as well as the whispering of her comrades. What was the reasoning behind this? Had something happened? She wondered these questions, but did not speak to gain answers as Silverburr had. She did want to know, but there was that chance that nothing had happened. Perhaps he had just made this decision for personal reasons. If so, she didn’t wish to question him. Redstar had served as their Leader for a good amount of time, and he had led them strongly just as everyone knew he could. If he was choosing to step down, it was sad, but it was his choice.
Then again, although Redstar was stepping down, it wasn’t as if he was being replaced by someone incapable of leading the clan well. Owlmind was a very talented individual and a very efficient Deputy. She was very strategic, observant, and had an eye for those with potential. Not only that, but she had done something that Batear had never seen any other Deputy do: she had created her own council. A small group of cats of whom she trusted to handle the progression of different aspects of the clan. To her own surprise, Owlmind had chosen her to be a member of this council, taking care of teaching the clan the best methods of hunting she knew. In a way, she also served as a voice for the rest of the clan, speaking up when she felt that something being suggested or spoken about would put the clan at risk, or was just too risky in general.
These thoughts provided comfort for the future of the clan. She did wonder the reasoning behind Redstar’s decision, but she knew that the outcome would still be one that could allow the clan to further thrive. With a smile pulling at her jaws, she looked back and forth between the sibling pair, nodding in respect to both. If this was their combined decision, then she would display all of her support for them. Words: 741 GooseLong thin legs began the slow but steady ascension up the hill that Lightningclan resided atop, a long and equally thin tail lashing behind. Narrowed green eyes peered up the hill, the silhouettes of others returning from patrols reaching the top of the top before she. The tips of the lanky she-cat’s fangs just barely poked out from her jaws, a low and quiet growl slowly beginning to rise through her throat.
She hadn’t chosen to go on a patrol with any of them, nor had she wanted to. And what did she get in return for going anyway? Following from behind as they all insisted they get back to camp, holding the prey that she had caught. How dare they walk into camp with her prey as if they had caught it themselves. If it weren’t for the fact that they were nearly in camp, she would have been the one bringing both her prey and a body or two back into camp.
As she reached the top of the hill, the others parting to drop off the prey they had stolen from her in the pile, a voice called out. The growl that previously rumbled in her chest came to an end as those narrowed green eyes turned, finding a pair of felines standing atop the hill meetings were called from. Upon closer inspection, she was surprised to find Redstar and Owlmind, her uncle and her mother, calling out for a clan meeting. Blinking once or twice in surprise that they both were addressing the clan, the matte gray she-cat loomed forward towards where others began to gather.
Another pelt brushed against her own, causing her gaze to shift to the side slightly and those emerald pools to narrow once more. Goldenblaze. Even though she wished to slice out a claw at the she-cat who believed she could walk so close, she decided otherwise, considering both figures of authority within the clan were straight ahead.
She peered back at the Leader and Deputy, taking a seat among the crowd with her tail looping around her side, dropping next to her paws. It was in this moment that a thought occurred to her: Owlmind had been the one to call the meeting, not Redstar. Curiosity seeped into her at this, the assumption of some major change coming to mind. Though she hadn’t quite expected what came.
Redstar was stepping down? Her eyes slightly widened, looking back and forth between the two of them. Where had this decision come from? Redstar had done relatively decent since he replaced her grandmother back when. How long had it been since then? Since Firesky had stepped down, passing away soon after? All of that had happened when she was just a kit, and now she was a Warrior. Time flew by, it seemed.
While she still wondered the reasoning behind this choice, she couldn’t deny that there was a flurry of pride that began to flow through her veins. Her mother was going to become the new Leader of Lightningclan. She had served as the clan’s Deputy ever since Redstar took over, and she had done it very damn well. There wasn’t the slightest doubt in her mind that Owlmind- no, Owlstar- would continue Lightningclan’s path of greatness that they already walked. In fact, not only would she lead them down this path, she would tear down any tree and destroy any boulder that blocked this path.
But, it was the correction of name in her mind that brought the gray feline to her next train of thought. Redstar was stepping down, and his Deputy was taking his place. Once Owlmind returned as Owlstar, she would be the Leader. Which meant she needed a Deputy.
Her long gray tail swished once at her side, a somewhat vague memory returning to her. During her Apprenticeship, there was one day, a little training session with her mother. That morning she had been woken from a dream, one she hadn’t ever had before, one that now brought a feeling of dejavu. In that dream, she had been a Warrior, and she had watched nearly this same scene occur. Redstar had, for an unknown reason at the time, stepped down from Leadership, Owlmind becoming Leader. She had been standing on top of the hill, looking down at the clan. The words she spoke, the words of a Leader announcing a new Deputy, they had filled the Oriental she-cat’s ears like a melody. In the end, she found her own name, or her nickname as a kit rather, being called.
She hadn’t had one of those dreams again since. But now, with nearly the same scene from that dream beginning to happen for real, she found those thoughts returning. She had never considered or really desired a position of power. She was a Warrior, she was the daughter of Owlmind, and she was a member of Lightningclan. What more power did she really need? Despite this thought, she couldn’t help but wonder. What would it be like to become Deputy? And her mother’s Deputy, no less?
Though these thoughts were present, Goosechase pushed them aside. It was no time to be getting ahead of herself. This meeting was merely to announce what events were going to happen later on at night. This was not a Deputy announcement.
Settling in with this thought, she merely looked up towards the mother she had taken so strongly after in appearance, a vibrant flash of pride and support sparking through those eyes. Words: 920 | Tags Leopard (small Tiger cameo)I know the road is long, but where you are is home. Wherever you stay, I'll find the way. It wasn’t very often that clan meetings were called. At least not since he had arrived to Lightningclan. The few meetings that had been called were more so private discussions, such as the Warrior meeting that Owlmind had held in camp. There hadn’t been many actual meetings. So it was a surprise to the golden-orange bengal when he heard a diplomatic voice call out to the clan.
The words spoken weren’t entirely familiar to him, for these calls varied between clans. Each clan had their own version of words used to summon the clan. In Treeclan,he had actually heard Lionstar use multiple ways to address the clan. But it seemed Lightningclan had one way, which was intriguing to hear.
Just as the bengal began to depart from the Nursery, he felt a light tug at his tail, yellow eyes turning to peer back at a set of light blue.
“Dad, can I join the meeting?” A sweet little voice spoke behind him, the voice of one of his daughters. A smile formed on his face upon seeing the orange tabby. By instinct he had the thought to say ‘little orange tabby’, but, sadly, she wasn’t quite little anymore. His babies were growing up, and though it was a joy to watch, it was also saddening.
“You may be ready to become an Apprentice, but you aren’t one yet.” A small pout formed in her expression, causing him to lightly shake his head. “Don’t worry. You’ll be an Apprentice soon, little tiger.” He lightly rubbed the top of her head with his paw, putting a little smile on her face.
He turned and exited the Nursery, peering at the top of the hill where he had seen Redstar stand in the past. He hadn’t been expecting Owlmind to be standing there as well, though. He approached the rest of the gathering cats beneath the sights of the Leader and Deputy, taking a seat near the edges. He found himself sitting near a familiar face and a friend he had made recently: Silverburr. He and the silver tom had been getting along in the last moon or so, which was an improvement compared to the rest of the time he had been in the clan. Even now, not too many of his newest clanmates associated with him. But he knew it would be this way for a while. He had a feeling that Windspirit and their kits were the main reason anyone saw him as a Lightningclan cat. But that was ok. He had his family, and that was all he needed.
As Owlmind spoke, he found himself shocked at what she had to say. According to her words, Redstar was stepping down from the position of Leader. He was...unsure of what he thought of this. His opinion wouldn’t change anything, and he knew this. But he was still...sad? Perhaps sad wasn’t the best word. Redstar had, if he remembered correctly, been Leader for his whole Apprenticeship and Warriorhood. He had seen Redstar at all of the Gatherings he attended. It had been Redstar who, though reluctantly, allowed Leopardheart to move from Treeclan to Lightningclan for the sake of his new family. In a way, he did feel a connection, a sense of deep respect and gratefulness, for the orange tabby. Had it not been for Redstar, he likely wouldn’t be standing among those of this clan, he wouldn’t have grown closer with Owlmind or Silverburr. And, more importantly, he likely wouldn’t have been able to watch his kits grow.
But, at the same time, he had grown to somewhat know and gain another connection with that of Owlmind. She had been the main one to oversee his transfer into Lightningclan. And, as far as he could tell, she had been one of the first to begin seeing him as worthy of holding the title of a Lightningclan Warrior. He did wish to keep some form of connection with Redstar, but he also hoped that he could form more of a bond with Owlstar too.
He nodded to them both, listening as Silverburr spoke up, but not joining in the questioning. If Redstar or Owlmind wanted to explain, they could, but he wouldn’t ask.

Sunnyheart && Brightpool Sunnyheart had often found solid and well-defined leadership in Owlmind's ability to address the clan. Just like her brother's predecessor, Firesky. Sunnyheart admired the older she-cat's ability to cut to the chase and avoid feverish rambling. Steady as the sun's path in the sky, Owlmind could speak and all would listen. And follow her now. The news that Redstar would be stepping down from leadership had come as a bit of a surprise. Sunnyheart felt his brow raise and much like the few outspoken members of the warrior den, a few questions came to mind. Silverburr one of the first to toss a question toward the siblings sharing the hilltop. Sunnyheart held the same question but did not add his voice to the fray of mumbles and rumbles. It was not his place to do so, the decision was made, there would be no turning back and just as they had when Firesky stepped down, the Clan would go on. ~~~ Brightpool had only barely returned to camp with Owlmind called the clan to gather. Equally as confused as some of her clanmates, the white-cat only quietly agreed. Owlmind had the support of StarClan at her side, proof of that only shown to Brightpool. Her gift, allowed her to see the silver and faded shapes of cats standing beside Owlmind. Who they remained a mystery to the gifted she-cat, but it offered comfort. StarClan stood beside the future leader of LightningClan. That was all she could ask for. Comforted by the knowledge, Brightpool prayed in gratitude to StarClan. Thanking them for allowing the reign of Owlmind to be successful and blessed. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY
