Greenleaf 11, Year 7
After the previous night's rain, the valley is mercifully cooler, and a gentle breeze and slightly cloudy skies lead to a rather pleasant day. The skies are clear for tonight's Medicine Cat Meeting.
It was a calm, clean night, though that was to be expected since the weather was manageable and comfortable through the day. Large, wide paws led the young healer, and now the only Medicine Cat of Stoneclan through the rough terrain of their rather barren and rocky territory. A company of she-cat's followed in her wake as the quartet made their way towards the base of the mountains, from where at that point only Ebonyheart would journey on her own to meet up with the others from each of the five clans of the Valley. It would be the black feline's first meeting without her former mentor, Sandblaze, who recently retired at the start of Greenleaf as his hearing continued to fail and worsen. The faint wind rushing through the crags high above had the scent of change among it's invisible breeze, things were different now, especially for Stoneclan.
Attending with her: Viperstrike, Herondive, Cloverspring
Falconstorm was brooding, quiet for a journey he'd made many times now. He had an apprentice to introduce and induct into his life. He wasn't looking forward to it. So far Sagepaw only got on his nerves, but she was young yet. "We're leaving now. Eat the herbs I gave you, stay on my paw prints and don't wander off. I will not be responsible for you getting hurt if you decide to leave my side on this journey." No he wasn't kind, but he was honest about things. And she knew he didn't like her. And so they headed off, an escort around them and hopefully his apprentice beside him.
Attending with them: Brackenstride, Brushfire, Firesong, Stonejaw
There is an a dark cloud suspended above the ginger and white LightningClan healer as she trudges forward with ears and tail down. She is obviously unaware of her surroundings, barely noticing the black and white form of Nightstep who seemingly refuses to leave her side. Downcast amber eyes gaze listlessly and without recognition, even as familiar territory unfurls before her in the form of the Moon Tree’s cavern entrance. Nightstep slows next to her, sharp eyes watching as she drags her paws toward the gathering group of her peers.
Attending with her: Nightstep, Cloudpaw, Tallsky
It had been almost a week since Darkstar's kitting, and Shadowchaser still wasn't sure if he'd ever get enough sleep. Darkstar had lost a life in the process of bringing new ones into the Clan. He couldn't wait to tell Sootfeather that one of Darkstar's kits had been named after her. With Smokefur ready to go, Shadowchaser bounded almost ahead of the escorts, for once eager to arrive at the Moon Tree and speak with the others. The war was over, Newtstripe was back in his life and he had new nieces and nephews: why should he not be happy? Reminding himself of his mentor, Shadowchaser slowed until they were nearly in step.
Attending with them: Lilyfrost, Pipitwing, Vinetail, Stormripple
Dewfrost was the last to arrive, her demeanor cool and composed - but private. She gave nothing away about RainClan's well-being. No doubt the herb ban Silverstar had ordered put her in a tough spot with her fellow medicine cats, and this could be one reason for her quiet, distant demeanor. The she-cat arrived alone, leaving her guards with the others, and there was a touch of surprise in the twitch of her whiskers upon seeing Falconstorm with an apprentice in tow.
Attending with her: Cygnetwing, Skychaser, Splashpaw
Rules - You must post within 48 hrs of it becoming your turn. - First rounds: ceremonies, Second Round: dreams, Third Round: [if desired] camaraderie/discussions/going home. He'd made this journey so many times now, more often than not alone. It was odd having Sagepaw walking with him, and he was less than thrilled with her. But she was the best choice, and StarClan agreed. He'd see if she had what it took as moons went on. If she failed, he'd chase her from his den and find someone else. For now, however, it was time to introduce her to the others.
Falconstorm stepped before the others and motioned with his tail for Sagepaw to follow.
"Sagepaw, is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?"
He let her answer, though he imagined his expression was not a very happy one. He would rather curl up with Kindleflare and sleep for awhile. Not dream, he never dreamed anymore unless they were punishing him, so he didn't expect much. Once she'd responded he stood up straight and finished the ceremony.
"Then come forward. Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this apprentice. She has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight so that she may understand your ways and heal TreeClan in accordance with your will."
With that done he would wait for the others to speak then he'd take his little hairball into the tree with everyone else and let her have her first dream as a medicine cat's apprentice.

Sagepaw's golden eyes fell upon the herbs Falconstorm set before her. As he spoke, she leaned down to bite the herbs, tasting them. Her nose scrunched at the bitter taste, but she rolled it across her tongue despite it, testing herself on what she could recognize. Daisy. Chamomile, she thought. His whiskers quivered as she swallowed the traveling herbs. Falconstorm reminded her that he wouldn't be responsible if she wandered off. She knew already that would be the case. That was why she'd taken the initiative to patrol with Minktoes and her sister Acornpaw, so she could get a headstart on memorizing terrain and landmarks. I'm not bird-brained, Falconstorm, she wanted to say, blaming her sour expression on the herbs coating her mouth. This was her first time going to StarClan's Claws. She wasn't going to mess this up by losing her way.
Although being in Falconstorm's presence tended to breed anxiety within her gut, Sagepaw was eager to set off from TreeClan. It was time for her ceremony, to be named as a medicine cat apprentice before StarClan themselves. She padded bouncily after Falconstorm, happy she was behind him so she couldn't see his annoyed expression. She tried hard to remember he just looked like that and she wasn't doing anything wrong.
Her nose stayed alert in the darkness. Padding swiftly through the tall trees, Sagepaw felt at great peace instead of fear at being in the forest at night, with its whistling crickets and nightingales. The TreeClan apprentice lingered as they came to the border, but the escort surrounding them kept forward so she had to scamper quickly again. The moon had risen higher by the time they approached a cavern. She saw it how illuminated the inside. Something beautiful and silver lay inside, and she entered behind Falconstorm mesmerized at the sight of the Moon Tree. It was the most beautiful tree she'd ever seen, and immediately she envied this place for having it instead of TreeClan. "Wow...," she breathed, her voice echoing within the arched walls. It was impossible to take in everything at once.
The slender blue Somali's eyes glinted spherically as she turned away from the captivating Moon Tree and looked on the others within the room, all cats of different sizes and colors. One of them looked really sad, and Sagepaw cocked her head in concern, but she had no time to ask or introduce herself. Falconstorm posed a question to her.
"Yes," she answered softly. A shadow was cast upon her mentor's face, and she could only see his mouth moving and his voice respond. As ordered, she came forward and swallowed audibly as she stood as still as she could. Falconstorm was calling upon the Warriors of StarClan, and she had no idea how they respond here, in this place. Would they send a vision? Did she have to be asleep? Sagepaw glanced at the other medicine cats, open to cues from them in case she was doing anything wrong. Closing her eyes, she gave a closing prayer to StarClan after Falconstorm's ceremony. She was a full-fledged medicine cat apprentice now. Thank you, StarClan, for this... power? Almost saying prey and quickly switching. Her parents had taught her to believe in StarClan, and as a very imaginative little girl, she liked to believe her warrior ancestors were right there with her, listening to her ramble on about her day while she had to grind up herbs for chores. She hoped they were here now, even though she couldn't see them.

NightClan had fared better than their neighbors as of late it would seem, and this good fortune had given Smokefur the energy she needed to carry on to the meeting of her peers. Smokefur wasn't as fast as she had been in the past, thankfully Shadowchaser had taken notice and slowed to match her pace. Someday Smokefur would retire from attending these meetings, her aging paws finally proving too much of a hindrance for the stubborn she-cat to simply will herself onward, but that day had yet to come. It loomed on the horizon however, and Smokefur was distinctly aware that any of these meetings could be her last. Upon arriving and giving the customary greetings Smokefur politely went through the motions as Falconstorm introduced Sagepaw. She called the young she-cat's name and congratulated her softly before the throng of cats made their way to the moon tree. At this point it felt like Smokefur knew the members of StarClan better than she knew the newest generation of NightClan, a thought that rattled around inside Smokefur's head as she climbed into the trees embrace and succumbed to a deep sleep.

curiosity is not a sin... ...but we should exercise caution with our curiosity Shadowchaser He wanted to ask Ebonyheart how Sandblaze was faring, but Falconstorm's impatient launch into his apprentice's initiation stoppered any attempts at conversation. Shadowchaser listened in patient reverence, a soft, distracted smile on his muzzle as he watched the pair go through the motions. So Falconstorm had finally taken an apprentice. Shadowchaser had gone his entire life - some forty odd moons - without ever seeing Falconstorm arrive to these meetings with a protege.
Shadowchaser couldn't help the speculations swirling around inside of him like a leaf-fall gust. Is it because of the war? Is that why he's chosen a successor? The attack on TreeClan's camp had horrified Shadowchaser, and he'd struggled to sleep peacefully for a half-moon after. He couldn't imagine what it must have been like from TreeClan's side. Shadowchaser had spent a countless stretch of hours and days patching up his wounded Clanmates, forced to set aside his horrified curiosity over the details and focus solely on keeping everyone as alive as StarClan allowed him to.
What was it like, Falconstorm?
Rumors had gotten back that Falconstorm himself had gotten into the fray.
Shadowchaser shifted uncomfortably, rocked out of these thoughts by the cheering of Sagepaw's new name. She looked so young and hopeful and free of whatever shadows plagued Falconstorm that Shadowchaser couldn't help cheering extra strongly for her. "Good luck, Sagepaw," he mewed just before the pause for any further news. Smokefur led the way to the Moon Tree's roots, and Shadowchaser watched her closely for signs of pain or exhaustion. These journeys were getting harder and harder for his beloved mentor.
With a polite nod to the others - particularly Dewfrost - Shadowchaser joined NightClan's most senior healer, curling up so that his tail just ever so lightly brushed the elder she-cat's flank as he settled himself in to dream. medicine cat of nightclan @tagged | jk rowling | background image | table by phoenix BlooRey DVDGhost the Undead GoddessJusticeKARAZHAL@poptart

Ebonyheart, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams It wasn't the first time the large she-cat had made her way through the mountains by herself to meet with the other Medicine Cats during the night of the half moon. It was, however, the first time she was following her paws as the sole healer of Stoneclan, rather than being the fully named apprentice to the newly named elder, Sandblaze.
His hearing had at first slowly damaged, though it seemed to rapidly increase since the change of Newleaf to Greenleaf. It was hard for her, to see the older tom fall to something so imperative despite the actual youth of his young moons.
At first, the black molly had left it alone, simply waiting for a time when the red tomcat felt comfortable enough to come to her about the issue involving his ears. Perhaps she, herself wasn't ready to see that there was anything wrong, not quite ready to be the sole inhabitant of the den detached from the rest of the clan. Yet, ever so slowly, the rest of her clanmates seemed to catch on, especially with Birdstar's ever observant gaze.
Since the ceremony to name Sandblaze as an elder, the den seemed even more quiet, even more alone. Though Ebonyheart wasn't one for overly emotional sentiment nor was she largely attached to many if even a few cats... the den still felt a certain amount of loneliness. In time, she would be where her former mentor had been, searching for a young ward to train under her wing and eventually take her place.
For now though, Ebonyheart was still young and her only job was to maintain the care of her clanmates, young, old and hazardly inbetween.
There was a difference among the cats that seemed to converge for the night, Kindleflare's whole demeanor absolutely different from previous encounters Ebonyheart had had with the timid yet gentle elder she-cat. A look of loss and heartbreak riddling her amber gaze that the large feline could not quite place. Tigereye, her young apprentice, he absence did not go unnoticed, nor did the suspicion that the elder healer's dissociation had to do with that notion.
Falconstorm, the grumpy tom from Treeclan however, was not alone during this trip as a young she-cat trailed behind with him with wide eyes and curiosity wafting off her pelt in waves. Ebonyheart couldn't help but wriggle her whiskers in faint amusement though her face and pale green gaze remained unreadable despite that flicker of emotion. The young blue molly reminded the Stoneclanner of her first adventures beyond the rocks and stones of the camp in the barrens, ready for knowledge of any kind to penetrate her mind.
Ebonyheart wondered how easily the apprenticeship would be under Falconstorm, especially with his temper that many were well aware of.
Giving a proper bow of greeting to each of those that were older than her, the large black feline settled her gaze upon the youngster known as Sagepaw. It was a quiet moment as Falconstorm named her before all of the healers as well as the shimmering warriors of Starclan peaking above within Silverpelt. There was a faint wiggle that came from Ebonyheart's nub tail upon the words that Sagepaw offered forwards, gladly accepting her new position within Treeclan.
"Congratulations Sagepaw." The towering she-cat gave a respectful bow towards the young molly, letting those pale green pools of hers quickly assess the youngster in a non bias sight through a faint flicker of curiosity wriggled within the Stoneclanner's chest. "I must admit, I am delighted to watch how you grow and thrive under Falconstorm's training." Her tone proper as always. Ebonyheart did not miss the light almost... disdain that the young she-cat's new mentor seemed to exude when performing his ceremony.
Though, it was not her place to judge upon another cat's differences... even if she didn't agree with them.
"Shadowchaser, Smokefur." Ebonyheart nodded to those who belonged within the pine forests of the shadowy Nightclan, though she hardly believed that the more darker side of those cats hardly reached to it's gentle medicine cats. "It's good to see you could make it tonight." A base conversation towards the well aging she-cat known as Smokefur as the healers gathered around the stark white roots of the Moon Tree.
She was sure that there were other questions floating within the heads of all the Medicine Cats gathered, mostly the whereabouts of Tigereye and the fate beheld of Sandblaze who would no longer make the journey with the rest of them. Such things would have to wait until after their dreaming process, and Ebonyheart would have to face Starclan and Mintleaf as the sole healer once sound asleep.

Unlike the rowdy chants vaulting the crows from the treetops, the name-chants of the other medicine cats was subdued and serious. Sagepaw looked to each cat in turn; each of them were so different, and yet she all recognized the same underlying odor as Falconstorm. The new apprentice gazed upon Smokefur, an elderly she-cat from NightClan, and the large medicine cat apprentice next to her. She wondered if Falconstorm would live to be as old as Smokefur, who seemed older than Lionstar himself and crackled like twigs. She smiled warmly at the elder, dipping her head in deference to the wise medicine cat's experience. Although NightClan as a Clan made her nervous, Shadowchaser and Smokefur looked so friendly and welcoming that Sagepaw completely forgot they were part of the Clan that had attacked hers. Shadowchaser even wished her good luck.
She nodded at Dewfrost and Kindleflare as well, and with a gulp, she faced the huge dark-furred she-cat of StoneClan last. Ebonyheart offered her congratulations, and Sagepaw found her tongue in time to reply. Unlike Ebonyheart, Sagepaw wore her heart right on her sleeve. When her mentor's name was uttered, part of Sagepaw's expression scrunched up and her eyes darted down, to the left, and then back onto Ebonyheart's face. "Yes... um, thank you so much. I look forward to getting to know you all every moon."
She'd never met Tigereye sad to say so she did not miss him as the others did. Instead, the smallest cat in the cave followed after Falconstorm, who had already left her behind to take up a spot beside Kindleflare on the Moon Tree. "We get to sleep on it?" she gasped to no one in particular. Sagepaw's bright eyes glittered with excitement and she gamboled across the cave floor to the bright silver gnarled roots where everyone else was gathering. She tried to join up with Falconstorm but got a frown for her efforts. She was about to whine where else am I supposed to sit? but bit her upper lip instead and decided to pick her own spot. As much as she didn't like it, Falconstorm's behavior was making her learn how to be independent and make decisions on her own. Still, she liked to sleep with another warm body beside her and she dropped down to the root near Ebonyheart. "I promise I won't be a bother," she chirped.
True to her word, she curled up close to the wall of shaggy black fur and laid her fluffy tail across her nose. Sagepaw thought it would be hard to sleep, but the moment she opened her eyes again, she was already dreaming and came around to a land of mist and fog. Sagepaw's ears bent back as she jolted upright, her fur spiking up as she quickly tapped the sparkly surface beneath her. It rippled like water wherever she touched, but her paws weren't wet.
"A different place? Whoooa..." Looking all around, Sagepaw craned her head up to see black clouds swirling around against a purple sky. The ground was far more interesting. Sagepaw's eyes roamed all over what she stood on, pivoting in place as she watched the entire valley from above, illuminated by the half-moonlight and stars. It was as if she stood on a glass ceiling, the image broken up only by the ripples of her footsteps. "Wow..." Given the altitude, she didn't recognize her own valley for what it was; Sagepaw just thought it looked like a beautiful place seeing from a bird's eye.
"Welcome... to StarClan, Sagepaw," a matronly voice announced behind her.
Whipping around, Sagepaw banged her head against the soft chest of a pale Somali she-cat. She staggered backward, shaking herself, for she was seeing stars all throughout her vision. It was centered mainly around the pretty molly, who glowed with the same fey light as the Moon Tree. Frost seemed to glint on all her paws and markings. Sagepaw instinctly sniffed the stranger, leaning her head in and then snatching it back.
"Hello......," she replied slowly. "You know my name."
"Well of course, baby. Falconstorm just gave us your ceremony," the StarClan cat drawled dotingly. She reached out and gently licked Sagepaw on her head like a mother would, and the apprentice quickly warmed up to her, even sharing tongues with her in turn. "Now, my name is Sandfur. I used to be part of your Clan. I watch my son every day and think about how proud I am at the tom he's become. I'll also be watching you." She reached out with both paws and cupped Sagepaw's cheeks, puffing the jowls up. "Look at you, so full of potential and love. Oh, how it's been so long since we've been able to talk to a TreeClan medicine cat." Sandfur sighed in relief and placed the flat of her head against Sagepaw's.
"He's grumpy to you too, huh?" Sagepaw said.
"To say the least." Pulling back, Sandfur smiled broadly down at her and flicked her tail to the side. "Let's go for a walk, shall we?" Sagepaw lurched up and happily bounced along.
"Where are we going to go?"
"Here seems perfect."
Sagepaw had an instant of incomprehension just before the land of the Silverpelt changed, and it was suddenly bright and homey and warm. Sagepaw blinked several times until she got used to the scene of soft amber sunlight stretching throughout a forest made golden. Each leaf glittered. Each branch was a constellation. She smelled all the scents of the seasons and then suddenly TreeClan, welcoming as always. Sagepaw sighed and immediately relaxed. "Did you do that?" she asked in awe.
"When you join StarClan, all of our aches fade away. We can hunt or sleep or stride as much as we wish, and what you see is all whatever you wish to see, your heart's desire. Is that not all dreams?" Sandfur said softly.
"I suppose. It felt different when I saw the omen. I was... not dreaming, still in real life," Sagepaw said.
"As a medicine cat, your mind will unlock to powers unknown of by the common warrior. That is why you must take up another Code."
"Another Code? Not the Warrior's Code?" Sagepaw asked.
"The Code of the Medicine Cat trumps that of the Warrior Code. Yes, even the article about obeying one's leader unconditionally. If you break the Medicine Cat code, your abilities as a medicine cat will be hampered, and you will have to live on without receiving StarClan's blessings." Sandfur's expression saddened, and she gently touched Sagepaw's toes. "If you want to change your mind and go back, it isn't cowardice. This isn't the life for everyone."
"No! I said I wouldn't quit, so I won't." Sagepaw's tail whipped to the other side, and she seemed to hunch in on herself, looking away to keep the tears back.
"It's all right, baby, don't cry. I shall state the rules to you, and when I am done, you say 'I agree', okay?" Sandfur adjusted herself to look quite prim and proper as she made her declarations. "One - a medicine cat may not fall in love or take a mate. Two - a medicine cat may not have kits." Sounds reasonable enough. I won't have time for all that anyway, Sagepaw thought. "Three - a medicine cat may only retire when their apprentice is ready to take their place." How old is Shadowchaser anyway? "Four - A medicine cat shares dreams with only StarClan." Sagepaw looked confused. Who else is there to share dreams with? Her eyes squinted but Sandfur was too into the recitation to notice. "And five - a medicine cat may ony discuss dreams and prophecies with their leader or other medicine cats at your meetings in the half-moon. Dreams should not be disclosed to outside parties, or any other cats in the Clan."
That one. That one would be the hardest of them all. Sagepaw shared everything with her sister, Acornpaw. She had a feeling it would tear her up inside to not be able to confide in her. "Not even my sister...," she mumbled. I'm going to be totally alone. She thought of Falconstorm, and how he isolated himself back home on purpose. Was this because he wasn't allowed to confide in friends or even take a lover? No venting or physical touch? Ever since Primrosepetal had told Sagepaw to think more on things from Falconstorm's point of view, she'd tried to do so, and she couldn't understand how medicine cats could live being so incredibly lonely. She sighed and thought, Well, they didn't say I couldn't confide in Acornpaw about my days, just my nights. I'll have to think of some other way to get my thoughts out.
"I agree to the Code," the young TreeClan apprentice responded.
"Then we of StarClan welcome you among us as the new medicine cat apprentice of TreeClan," Sandfur said brightly. Like before, Sagepaw could hear subdued chanting and even saw the materializations of several other cats, although none of them were in as much focus as the starry Somali beside her. "From now on, you will see our omens and hear our words with much more clarity. We will be your Clan's guardians, warning them of dangers ahead or guiding you in times of need."
"You'll be there whenever I need you?" Sagepaw asked hopefully.
"Not just me. Any cat in StarClan can come find you, but you'll probably come across those you're more familiar with as you get older."
"I knew StarClan was always with me." Sagepaw purred, rubbing her shoulder against the spirit beside her. Sandfur trilled her contentment, laying her tail across the base of Sagepaw's.
"Now, child, your dreams are times when StarClan gives advice so listen good, okay?" Sagepaw bobbed her head. "After you hear it, you'll wake up again at the Moon Tree." She nodded again. Sandfur smiled kindly. "I know you are as new as a tender spring sapling, but it makes you supple and full of growing potential. You will need to have heart. Dear Lionstar has four lives left. You must be wary in the coming moons."
"I'll prepare as much as I can. I'll try to be strong!" Sagepaw promised.
The lights in Sandfur's eyes were suddenly blinding, and Sagepaw had to close her eyes to protect herself. When she opened them again, she was back at the cool cavern, her breath rustling through her tail. She could faintly hear the soft chants of her name echoing throughout the cavern as StarClan announced to the other medicine cats that they had accepted her as well. @poptart Fawn Justice Ghost the Undead Goddess BlooRey DVD

curiosity is not a sin... ...but we should exercise caution with our curiosity Shadowchaser The coolness radiating from the Moon Tree felt like a mercy from StarClan. The cavern floor was refreshingly cool to his paw pads, and Shadowchaser relished it, leaving behind the hot air of the greenleaf valley for the welcoming roots of the tree.
Smokefur was close by, and Shadowchaser gently touched his nose to his mentor's paw, smiling when they made eye contact, before he curled counterclockwise to her for his own dreaming.
"Hello, Shadowchaser."
The voice that roused him in the spirit world was not one he'd expected to hear - but it still rang a bell of familiarity in Shadowchaser's head even before he saw the owner. Red eyes, peaceful and calm, framed in pristine white fur contrasted Shadowchaser's gold-and-dark appearance. He couldn't resist a purr, greeting the younger tom with a secondhand relief for the family Snakestep had left behind.
"It's good to see you. Nettleheart asked for you." Shadowchaser recounted how the prickly, socially-disdainful she-cat had approached him, her features contorted in obvious discomfort and a haunting hunger he'd recognized. Nettleheart had nearly begged him to check on Snakestep, to make sure he was alright in Silverpelt. To make sure that Briarthroat had found him. Shadowchaser assured her he would try. His dreaming with StarClan was important, and as much as he wanted to, it didn't allow him to simply wander through their starlit woods in search of familiar faces.
That was reserved for the dead and the dead alone. He would have his chance to meet everyone again.
Snakestep's tail curled and uncurled behind him. Pensive, but with a sense of urgency when he spoke. "Please tell her that I'm sorry I left her behind, especially after losing Briarthroat. I know it seems impossible, but I want her to get past her grief. Don't let her drown in it, Shadowchaser. I can't help her from here, but you and Buckfur and Graywolf can."
Snakestep's gaze was beseeching, and Shadowchaser's heart ached for the frustration he sensed in the deceased warrior. "I'll do my best," he promised, then looked around.
It was... pleasant, almost, to seek guidance and receive counsel from StarClan on personal matters. On 'small' matters, though he hardly thought each individual cat's troubles could be considered small. There was no mention of a valleywide threat, no insidious warnings of sickness or death or--
Thunder crackled overhead. Shadowchaser looked up, Snakestep gone and a strong wind whipping through NightClan's forest. The medicine cat's brow furrowed in consternation, his elation obviously premature. "What's wrong? What are you trying to tell me?" His whispers rode the wind, even as he felt the first few patters of rain litter his pelt.
A storm?
He strained his ears to listen and narrowed his eyes for any glimpses of StarClan within this vision. But the rain fizzled out almost as quickly as it started. The ground beneath his paws felt dry, thirsty. Shadowchaser frowned. A drought is coming? But then he caught the barest hint of a familiar scent. Rainfur. Tilting his head back, he was able to make out the gathered storm clouds through the foliage. A drop landed on his nose. A second one.
A third.
And then nothing. The clouds still hovered, but they yielded no refreshing downpour. A few more drops were squeezed from the stormy atmosphere, but it was absorbed by the ground almost took quick for Shadowchaser to notice. Rainfur is struggling.
"I understand," he whispered, even as the vision faded and he awoke curled in the sheltering roots of the Moon Tree. medicine cat of nightclan BlooRey DVD| jk rowling | background image | table by phoenix BlooRey DVDGhost the Undead GoddessJusticeKARAZHAL@poptart

"Some people see scars, and it is wounding they remember. To me they are proof of the fact that there is healing.” KIndleFlare Dark amber eyes had stared bleakly at the ground as pawsteps filled the air, soft and pleasant chattering spreading between the medicine cats. LightningClan's sole healer wasn't sure whether the others had avoided questioning her on her solo adventure because they knew the reason she was alone, or because they truly didn't know, assuming Tigereye has simply been caught up in something else that particular day. Whatever the reason had been, she was momentarily relieved by it. She wouldn't have the strength, emotional or physical, to explain it herself. And so she had continued to examine her paws, only lifting her head briefly to rasp out a congratulations to Sagepaw.
Though, she couldn't bear to look at the young, budding medicine cat apprentice for much more than a heartbeat, not without her heart seizing painfully in her chest.
Numb paws dragged over the stone as she padded over to a spot near the Moon Tree. It wasn't where she normally lay, but she couldn't face that spot now. Not when Tigereye had always settled down at her side to dream his own dream. Instead, she picked some other spot, one she realized was not quite as comfortable as her favorite one but...
Sometimes the less comfortable spot managed to be the less painful.
She let the darkness slip over her, embracing the silence that filled her ears. Anyone on the outside would realize that something wasn't right; her whiskers quivered near constantly, her tail tip unable to keep still. Despite being asleep, the dreamless world that had been conjured to greet her was far from restful. Her physical being remained tense, listless. Hurt.
Sad.
She didn't want to be here. She wanted to be as far from here as possible, and her dark dreamland showed just that. She was waiting for the nightmare to end. Waiting for the moment she could open her eyes and be done with this place that she had grown to love so much with her medicine cat companion at her side. Now, it was little more than another tear in her fragile heart. A piece of her happiness that had been cut out of her with the claws of grief and loss.
Amber eyes slid open slowly after some time. She had little way to tell how long had transpired; the vast majority of others were still asleep, though. Dragging her exhausted frame from the rocky surface below, she picked her way numbly to the entrance, sitting down and adjusting herself to wait for the others to rise. Unable to bear seeing the spot she'd once shared with Tigereye, the ginger and white healer occupied herself by examining the strands of fur on her white forepaws.
Soon, she would be home again. A home that felt emptier these days, but... It was a home in which she could grieve in peace. Medicine Cat of LightningClan Fawn Justice KARAZHAL @poptart

Ebonyheart, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams Large, flat paws that were native to Stoneclanner blood lead the fluffy black feline down towards the stark white tree root she normally laid and rested at during her meetings with Starclan. It didn't take much for her to get comfortable, her flank resting against one of the gnarled roots of the brilliant Moon Tree in a ebony and ivory type aesthetic.
Pale green pools shimmered almost ghost like within the silver flow of the moonlight, turning to focus on Sagepaw as the youngster curled up rather close to where Ebonyheart had settled, though she didn't miss the interactions where it seemed like Falconstorm almost shooed her away as he huddled awfully close to Lightningclan's rather shy and gentle natured healer.
She was rather put off by the improper show of attitude from a mentor to an apprentice, the lack of respect resignation within the broad chest of the black she-cat through she held her tongue for the time being. The Treeclan had always had somewhat of a foul temper during her short time knowing him, but that didn't excuse the harsh way he treated the blue she-cat beside her, though that being said, Ebonyheart had always been about respect and proper attitudes despite how she may have felt.
It was simply the way she had been raised.
Flickering her nub, the black feline gave a slight nod to Sagepaw before lowering her head to her paws and letting sleep drift her away. It was the sharp scent of min that quickly broke through the faint drifting of the other healers around her, Starclan was always fast when greeting her during her half-moon meetings. Something she was rather pleased about, as she didn't wish to be kept waiting.
"Hello Ebonyheart!" Mintleaf purred as the small tabby bounced up and down like the young warrior she had been when life had been stolen from her. Brilliant green pools shimmered with stars twinkling within the depths and along each stripe of the pale pelted Starclan warrioress.
"Mintleaf." Ebonyheart respectfully dipped her head, never one to forgo proper etiquette or greetings. Something she believed all cats should have, but alas there were very few who still practiced such things.
"As always." Mintleaf let out a purr as she lifted a tiny paw to her muzzle in an attempt to hide the laughter rumbling within her chest. She always seemed amused but thankful for Ebonyheart's stiffness, as if she needed something to counteract her hyper active personality. "How is Sandblaze?" There was a sliver of curiosity within her starry gaze.
"I think retirement hasn't sat well with him. He's used to be something, doing something important and now he can barely hear." The large black she-cat said as though it were obvious, though before she spoke again a familiar scent caught her attention. It was faint, but rather similar to that of Kindleflare, like a rabbit upon the open moorlands of Lightningclan.
"Tigereye?" Her pale gaze shifted to look at Mintleaf, the Starclan she-cat had a sad expression upon her pale face and somewhat of an empathetic light twinkling in her gaze. She knew the feeling of being snatched from the valley all too quickly, though she had never discussed her age nor accident that lead her to the starry forests among Silverpelt.
"He's okay, I think he's more worried about Kindleflare." Mintleaf replied softly as Ebonyheart bowed her head out of respect for the fallen healer. No wonder the ginger and white tabby elder looked so broken and distant earlier, it had been the scent of grief that surrounded her like an ominous black cloud.
"Um, before you go..." Mintleaf mewed in almost an uncertain tone, causing Ebonyheart to lift her head and eye the now nervous looking she-cat try to figure out exactly how to pass on some sort of information. Or at least, that's what the Stoneclan healer assumed was happening. "Remember when it comes to Starclan, that there are those with quiet respect and those with loud admiration..."
"That hardly makes sense." Ebonyheart started, though there was a rush of wind that seemed to fly from the distant edges of Starclan's territory as Mintleaf's form blurred before the black molly's pale gaze. She hated when her ancestors decided it was cute to speak in riddles rather than actually explain their motives and spooky dealings.
The last thing Ebonyheart could catch coming from her young guide's mouth was a single word, a name even as the black she-cat re-awoke and lifted her head to turn her gaze to the apprentice in question. Though she hardly doubted that Mintleaf's little foreshadowing thought and Sagepaw had anything to do with one another, she was still curious as to why Treeclan's newest healer had been brought up within her dream.
Did she perhaps need help that Falconstorm couldn't give her?
For now, Ebonyheart would leave it be. Besides, there would be no talking to the large tomcat about it, he'd probably take offense to Starclan interfering for some reason or another. Though, the large black molly would remember to keep an eye, or an ear out for Sagepaw should the youngster come to her about something Starclan or herb related. After all, she herself had been trained by several different medicine cats, including the Tribe's own healer.
Shifting to sit up, Ebonyheart dipped her head to give her chest a couple standard licks as Sagepaw stirred and awoke. "I trust you had an eventful dream." She stared in that sharp and proper tone of hers as an ear twitched, her gaze and emotionless expression revealing nothing as she spoke. "Remember, those dreams are your own unless you feel the absolute need to share them with either another medicine cat or your leader."
It was a simple lesson, but one that she was sure needed to be said before Ebonyheart stretched and moved to pad away from the faintly glowing Moon Tree.
