He was a stupid fur brain. He knew it even before he did what he did. But, that didn't mean he regretted it. If anything, it made him want to laugh at himself for what he did. What he did, well that was him wanting to see how well he could climb a tree to chase a squirrel. Stupid idea he knew since climbing was never a strong point of a Stoneclanner. But, he wanted to try. He was eager to learn anything he could and he really wanted to impress WhiteHawk when they would go out next for a hunting patrol or training session by what Tigerpaw had taught himself. But instead his efforts were rewarded with a twisted paw and a few scrapes from the branches of the tree. He probably had a few wood splinters in his paws for his efforts too if his limping had anything to say on that matter.
He nearly caught it too that's what got to him. He was so close and if he had been watching how high up he had scrambled unceremoniously he wouldn't have gotten himself hurt. It wasn't a bad fall really he came off lucky. Just note to self for later. Don't climb trees and if you do; don't trying climbing down headfirst. The ginger and white tabby peeked his head inside; getting his eyes adjusted to his surroundings and tried to see if he could see Ebonyheart. He didn't need the medical attention but he knew his brothers would have a cow if he came to them hurt. They weren't the closest after the death of their father that sort of split them apart but if it came to a pinch he knew his brothers would have his back. That being said, he knew Lionpaw had no problem with giving him a good cuff over the ears for being too reckless and eager to please so if he came out without any medical attention; well. Let's just say there would be drag marks in the ground from where Tigerpaw's face while he was being dragged by his eldest brother by his tail straight to Ebonyheart for certain.
"Ebony?" his voice called out in a curious and cheerful tone as it always been.
Tigerpaw was always the type to make friends and do to please no matter what. He was always a hyper active little dude and he had no problem with it either. Although, others may not have liked the fluff ball of sunshine but he didn't care too much.
"Oh Ebonyheart!" he called out again. "I...May have a bit of a tumble earlier...again" his voice grew a bit sheepish; lets just say with his antics he was a semi-regular when it came to the earthy and herb scented Medicine Den that held the Stoneclan medicine cat.

Ebonyheart, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams It was different.
Strange, almost, being in the den by herself now. It had once been occuped by not only her large form but the smaller, red from of her former mentor, Sandblaze. Granted, this new change had been needed for sometime as the former healer's hearing was nearly completely gone at this point.
It was crazy what a single fall into the river during a cold Leafbare day could do to one of the much needed senses of a cat. There was some comfort that the massive black she-cat gained at his lingering scent, though she knew it wouldn't last forever with how many cats trudged through here and the amount of herbs that lay hidden within her stores. There would even come a time when the massive feline would have to find a ward of her own, a cat to take under her wing as Sandblaze had done, to train and mold her to be the future healer of Stoneclan when her duties were finally finished.
She had just finished clearing out the last of the expired herbs when a voice called Ebonyheart from her thoughts, causing a large ear to flicker. The healer could tell from the sound it was a younger member of Stoneclan's sturdy felines, though nothing out of the ordinary.
Apprentices and fresh warriors often found themselves with cuts and bruises as they still got used to the surroundings of their barren territory.
Padding from the inner storage of her sheltered, rocky den, the large she-cat found those pale green pools of her landing on the form of Tigerpaw. As always, her gaze was unreadable but there was a faint flicker of possible annoyance from her fluffy nubbed tail behind her. It seemed that this particular apprentice had a way with finding his paws leading to her den quite often.
"Back again, Tigerpaw." Her tone was sharp and proper as always, perhaps the only cat to escape the harshest of her scathing tongue was the newly appointed Birdstar. Mossy pools slowly ran over the form of the ginger and white tabby but from the outside there didn't seem to be any immediate concern, such as a cut or the worry of bleeding.
There was honestly no telling what this young tom had gotten into today.
"What happened this time, and where was Whitehawk?" Her jaw moved as she snapped the question in almost a demanding tone. As young as she was, Ebonyheart was known for her more elder-esc personality and no-nonsense thinking. She could hardly tell if it was more Tigerpaw's fault for being clumsy, or his mentor's fault for letting the youngster do things that would lead to injury.
It wouldn't be the first time she had to fix up a younger member of her clan, after all Ebonyheat had to help restore Dawnchaser's sight when he got into a vicious battle with a long taloned raptor from the sky.

He honestly didn't mind her snappish tone. He was used to getting criticism form all sorts of people. He knew he wasn't always the most liked cat in the clan sometimes because he was too clumsy, or too loud, or just too obnoxious when it came to making friends. He was too eager for his own good as most would say but that never stopped him. He had made a promise to his dad that he would become the best warrior he could no matter what people said about him. He had always looked up to his father for being a great warrior and he wouldn't stop until he fulfilled his paw steps. So getting snapped on by the young medicine cat who acted much too old for her age didn't bother him. If anything he just picked up more of his charm and grinned up at her with amber eyes searching although he did take on a bit more of a subdued posture. He wasn't scared of her...just more respected his elders despite age. Ebonyheart was good at her job for her age because she had a good mentor. That still being said; she was not known to be the most friendliest of creatures within the clan which made it funny or awkward depending on who witnessed the interactions between the stone faced molly and the bright eyed hyperactive apprentice.
"Well it's good to see your doing well this morning Ebonyheart!" he grinned up at her and sat down with a small wince.
"Well, knowing me you could only assume I did something stupid." he giggled. "I um...tried climbing up a tree while chasing a squirrel. I was trying to hunt by himself and train out in the territory while Whitehawk was busy today. I wanted to surprise him with my new accomplishments when he got back!" he chirped at her and looked around.
the den was a familiar place. Same rocky cave and walls surrounded him although since Ebonyheart took on the medicine cat position after Sandblaze retired the scents around the cave grew distant and different from what he remembered. He didn't mind it though, just a new chapter in the life of a Stone Clan medicine cat. The ginger and white tabby broke from his thoughts to look up at the older clan mate and grimaced at her tone.
"It wasn't Whitehawk's fault this time...well it's never his fault really. He was out today doing some clan business. I just wanted to surprise him. He's really a good mentor honestly so there isn't any reason to talk so disrespectful about him." his tone showed her that he obviously didn't appreciate her backlash on his mentor.
"I just got a few bruises here and there and I twisted my paw a little. No big deal. I only came in here cause if I didn't Lionpaw would have my tail and then you'd really have something to have work on when he'd drag me in here. I just saved both of our butts." he grinned at her with less amusement this time.
He didn't often like getting into arguments over silly things even if Ebonyheart was a bit crusty for her age. He didn't like disrespect towards anyone regardless of who it was. And Tigerpaw was protective of his mentor much like his mentor was of him. He didn't want to hear the large black molly speaking bad about him. They were all trying their best after all.
"I probably got a few splinters too.." he grumbled as he lifted a paw and began biting and nibbling at his pads were he could feel the wooden pricks; much like the pricks of annoyance running down his back.
"Did I interrupt something again?" he asked looking back up at her. He always seemed to ave interrupted something or another when it came to the medicine cat. Or she was just never in a good mood to see him and didn't like his presence.

Ebonyheart, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams Had there been a long tail behind the dark coated healer then it would have lashed behind her large form at the outspoken words of the young ginger and white apprentice that had trudged into her den. The incredulous feeling growing within her chest at the single idea that she, a proper molly such as herself, throw any such disrespect towards a warrior that had earned their name.
A rumble of displeasure formed within her chest, almost as if the medicine cat wanted to growl but instead fought it back. Her green pools, however, suddenly blazed to life with irritation and disapproval like a pale flame against the black backdrop of her face.
"It's disrespectful to assume I would ever speak ill of a warrior who had earned his name." Ebonyheart's sharp tone was terse and tight as she held her composure together. Had this youngster been any older he would be well aware in the way of which Rabbitfur had raised her, in the way of which she had always given respect where respect was due.
Whitehawk was a warrior of Stoneclan, despite the problems he had encountered within his life, including that of when he lost an eye to the predator that held his namesake, he had made it through his trials and tribulations to gain his rank and full name. He had worked hard, and proven himself to his leader to gain an apprentice to teach and train.
Besides, it wasn't the alabaster warrior that Ebonyheart was displeased with.
"Watch your tone when you speak to any cat older than you, let alone the cat here to heal you everytime some apprentice believes it's safe enough for them to travel our territory alone." Her tone sharpened even more if possible, the massive she-cat pulling herself up as she took a breath. She couldn't honestly even begin to count the times Tigerpaw had stumbled into her den because he refused to listen to rules.
"It may be splinters this time, and next time it might be fighting for your life. Be mindful of who mentors you, and be mindful of those who have suffered within our clan." Her nubbed tail twitched behind her as her mind quickly flickered over Dawnchaser and his experience with a raptor as an apprentice. Beetlejaw, who had his leg taken by a fox despite the safety of the nursery he lay in as a kit. Even Whitehawk had not been safe enough to keep both of his eyes with his predator encounter.
"Tigerpaw, if you can't learn to stay with your mentor then I will ban you from traveling outside the nursery until you can remember your age and your position within the clan." The flames within her gaze cooled into a more unreadable expression as she stared down out at the young tom. While she wasn't the leader who reigned over Stoneclan, she was in charge of making sure her cats stayed safe.
If a young cat couldn't realize the danger he was putting himself in then she was going to treat him like the kit he acted.
There was a moment of silence as the large healer looked over the youngster she had just lectured, knowing that despite the harshness of the truth it was something he needed to be told. Ebonyheart was grumpy, yes, but she was true to her nature and her calling. There was a reason Sandblaze had given her the full name she now wore proudly, as she poured all her heart and soul into the studies and workings of being a Medicine Cat. For moons she had learned from her red coated mentor, from those of other clans and even the healer of the Tribe known as Skyteller. She had seen much and saved many and lost several.
Ebonyheart wasn't about to watch Tigerpaw follow the same road Dawnchaser once ran. A bright tom with the need to impress his mentor, and an incident that almost cost him his life. Starclan was not always merciful, history painted that picture perfectly.
Giving a sigh, the large black feline lowered her haunches to sit in front of Tigerpaw, those mossy pools running over his small form to once again check for any outward injuries. Her proper tone was calmer this time, almost monotoned to hide the feelings she possibly was experiencing or the memories that she was remembering. "Where do you feel like you have splinters? We can get them out and i'll give you something to keep an infection out."

Her words made him angry. He never liked being chastised at all and he hated it even more when they threatened him. Tigerpaw had respect for all ranks because he knew every one was essential to his clan; he didn't like what she had said about Whitehawk as if he wasn't being a good mentor because he wasn't keeping a close watch over him 24/7. Whitehawk was his mentor; not his father or baby sitter and for her to imply that he should be keep an eye out for him just boiled his blood. Whitehawk was a great warrior and got his name and rank for a reason; Tigerpaw admired him a lot but he wasn't supposed to have Tigerpaw glued to his side all the time. The dark amber gaze glared angrily at the medicine cat. He was smart enough to know when not to talk back to her because frankly she did mean business. He didn't think she had the right to keep him in camp without proper cause. Now if he was horribly injured and wanted to go out then maybe but he wasn't and as an apprentice he was allowed out of camp at decent hours. It was better to have a guide or partner with you but it wasn't like a guide rule was it? He was old enough to be on his own as long as he wasn't doing stupid stuff.
"I'm allowed out of camp to train or to hunt you know." he grumbled at her as he looked away slouching looking very much put out by her words and attitude. "as long as I'm being safe and not doing stupid stuff." he shrugged. "I don't often do stupid stuff like that and I wanted to impress Whitehawk whenever he got back to start a training session with me." he added.
"I admit I probably shouldn't have chased that squirrel up the tree and just let it run off but I wanted to see if I could do it. Anyone training needs to see their strong points and weak points. How are we supposed to know what we are good at and bad at if we don't try it out?" he questioned her. "And for the record I do respect my elders. Not just my elders but you, my mentor, the other warriors. Heck even the other apprentices and queens and kits. I understand everyone got a place in this clan for reason and play a crucial part in it for our survival. But life isn't about keeping safe in the shadows...I want to be a strong warrior someday so that my dad will be proud of me along with my mother...I promised him I'd do whatever it took to be the greatest I can be. And if I don't train hard enough I'm not going to make it."
It was no secret for those who knew of Tigerpaw and his brothers the fact that their mother had died right after they were born; too young to remember her and being raised by their father who never took another mate and raised them as a single father before he too passed away unexpectedly right after they were made apprentices. Tigerpaw had been the closest to him; his father's death and the life he had before he died was the apprentice's drive to becoming as great as his father once was. He didn't mean to come off as disrespectful to Ebonyheart and it was obvious by the look in his eyes. He was a young apprentice who was desperate to become something to make others and the people he cared about most proud of him.
"I just got a bit of a twisted paw and a few splinters." he muttered not looking at her as he raised his paw that had a little bit of blood on it from his scrapes. "I caught my paw between some branches when I was trying to catch myself from falling. It's okay though...I'm not going to let it hinder my training." he added stubbornly.

Ebonyheart, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams He still didn't seem to grasp the concept in which the massive healer was trying to explain to him.
Apprentices were young and to themselves they were invincible. The world was there for them to explore and nothing could damper their spirits or their abilities. Even death was a concept in which they couldn't possibly understand to the fullest until they were older, full of wisdom and moons that showed gray upon their fur.
There was a difference, when it came to warriors and their medicinal healers. Ebonyheart had been introduced to death at a very early age, her first season as an apprentice to Sandblaze had her thrown into the mists of Leafbare. Cats fell ill with Greencough and many lost their lives to journey on towards Starclan.
While she was aware of Tigerpaw's brush when it came to his parents, it would be a difference should the black reaper of decay greet him rather than one he loved.
She had long ago made peace with the personification of death, a cat she could almost imagine as one black as night with eyeless sockets and a touch of ice cold. That didn't mean she made peace with her cats attempting to plant their paws into the grave at the early stages of their lives.
"Training and working on your abilities is one thing Tigerpaw, placing yourself in the midst of danger is another." Ebonyheart's sharp tone rumbled from her throat, her mossy pools continuously staring down at the younger tom though her expression was completely void of emotions, making it impossible to read what she was thinking or what she was feelings.
A thing she has mastered long ago, as Rabbitfur wore the same mask to shield from those around them.
"You are an apprentice, and at most you are ten moons old. As a younger member of this clan you are required to stay with either your mentor or another fully trained warrior until you have proven you are able to be on your own." Though the fluffy molly was not a warrior, she knew enough about the going-ons of her clan to have the ability to lecture this young tom. Though she was doubtful he would actually listen to what she had to say, as this wasn't the first time she had gotten onto him for his foolish actions.
"Right now, you are only proving that you are unable to follow the rules placed down from Birdstar and the leaders before him." Though, despite her... affections (for lack of a better term at the moment) towards the dilute leader, he was not as stern as others before him. He wanted harmony and peace within his clan and his heart lead him.
Not that there was anything wrong with that, but being lenient could cause structural issues for those who chose not to listen because they believed they could get away with their behavior.
"Our territory is not friendly, nor is the valley. With Greenleaf comes dangers beyond that of sickness and disease. There are predators out there far bigger than you, even those that are bigger than me. If they find you alone then you would become a quick snack and none of Stoneclan would be the wiser to know what happened to you." Being there to confirm the death of a warrior was taxing enough, but having to look upon the body of a young cat not yet living his full life was heart wrenching.
To not even completely know what happened due to the lack of a body... That was a different feeling entirely, an empty feeling that floated within the stomach and the heart.
"Think of how terrible Whitehawk would feel if you got injured or worse because you ignored rules to train on your own. We are given mentors for a reason, otherwise what would be the point of being an apprentice to train." This resgnanted to her as well, without Sandblaze then Ebonyheart would have no idea how to stop bleeding wounds, or fix stomach aches and wrenched shoulders.
Flickering an ear, the large healer finally dismissed the subject. There was no need to continue berating him for what he had already done, it was finished and he had been lectured. If he continued to do so then it would be brought up again, and next time with more serious consequences than her snapping and threatening to keep him in camp.
"As for your splinters and sprained paw, I will decide how badly you are injured. It is my job after all, and not even you or your brother knows the depth of such problems. Otherwise what is the point of me being the medicine cat if young apprentices could diagnose themselves." Ebonyheart chided the youngster, somewhat irritated by his belief that he could just shake off minor injuries as if they were no big deal.
"Should I decide you need rest to heal, I expect you to listen to me. Do you understand, Tigerpaw?"

He was sulking at this point. Having already argued most of what he felt her words further seemed to jab at him for his recklessness and stupidity. A part of him wanted to cry and believe he was a failure but that was just self pity; and pity was no where to find himself in here in front of the medicine cat who obviously had no sympathy to give. That was okay though; Tigerpaw knew his mistakes, how deep of an understanding was yet to be decided but he knew that she didn't like him going out alone. Ebonyheart did have a good point about the predators and systems created and brought down by the past leaders to keep the clan safe. He just didn't like those rules. He wanted to explore and to know the world better so he can become a better and stronger warrior in the future. His only fault was he wanted it now instead of living his days following the rules and earning experience by growing up. He was too eager, too clumsy, and kind of air headed at times to be able to have his wish. He would feel guilty if something had happened to him and left his brothers without another family member. He'd feel bad if WhiteHawk had to find his body one day or..worse yet not find his body at all because of something the younger tom had done because of his hyperactive and eager mind chose it was that time to do whatever it was to kill him. The large she-cat had a point there too. Grudgingly in acceptance he nodded his agreement and kept his mouth shut. He knew not to talk back to her anymore. Whether he ended up following her advice was something of another matter but he probably would...or at least most of it. He didn't want to have a boring life after all. He was young and had his whole life ahead of him. With his luck he'd screw everything up if he continued down the path he was on now. But, he wanted to be like his dad and make him proud. But was it the right way to go with how he was doing things?
Shaking his head he finally just refused to say more on the matter as the large black molly seemed done with her lecture too. No need to rile her up even more; she was kind of scary at times. People just didn't understand her much like they never really understood the young tabby who dreamed big and went for it all. Tigerpaw sat there allowing her to look at his injuries as his own gaze drifted away from the medicine healer and around her den with a curious look. It wasn't anything that he hadn't seen before unfortunately as he had often come in with scratches and bruises from his over enjoyment but something seemed off recently as he looked around.
"Ebonyheart...did you do something to the den recently?" he frowned tilting his head. "It looks different somehow..."
He didn't know if it was because Sandblaze had retired or if Ebonyheart had just moved some stuff around but the den didn't feel the same way it used to. Times are changing and it seemed that so were the dens and the cats in them.
"Is it the fact that Sandblaze isn't here..." he muttered almost to himself. "Or is it because it's only you here...are you ever going to decide to get an apprentice to help you?" he asked looking back at the large molly and watching her curiously.

Ebonyheart, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams Tigerpaw was quiet for a time.
Though the massive tabby was harsh, it was well placed criticism that caused her tongue to move against his young and impatient actions. Her role in life had forced her to grow up quickly, to drastically change as her paws led her a different direction than those who trained to be warriors of the clan. Rather than hunt and provide, she was there to heal and hope to stop death if Starclan allowed it.
She had saved many, and lost several. Each cat who parted from Stoneclan, from the valley while she attempted to save them was not lost upon her. She remembered their names, their faces and the ailments that were unpreventable just as easily as she remembered the faces of those who still walked among the stones and boulders of their barren territory.
The massive black molly had not been without her faults either, as there had been a time when her curiosity had gotten the better of her. The need to perform her duties at the top tier, to impress the likes of Sandblaze upon her early 'paw moons were but a memory of the past but still prelevant. Had Falconstorm from Treeclan not found her on a particular day, scolded and escorted her for being alone despite the youth of her moons... then perhaps she would not have been here today, healing Tigerpaw of his minor injuries.
It didn't take Ebonyheart long to locate the small spindrel of bark sticking out of the paw pad of the youngster sitting oddly quiet in front of her. While she had not aimed to silence him, the massive molly did not mind the air of quietness that hung between the two of them. It left the healer to her thoughts as she worked on Tigerpaw's pad, moving to press some mushed herbs against it to prevent any sort of infection for forming within the minute injury.
The last thing Stoneclan needed was a young tomcat stuck within the Medicine Cat's den with a swollen, unusable leg while he healed.
An ear flickered as his voice broke the silence around them, though rather than arguing or striving to prove his point, he changed the direction of the conversation to something that had been whittling away at Ebonyheart for the last few nights. He wasn't wrong, as there was an air of difference that hung within her solitary den. Something that she was not really ready to admit, as Sandblaze's scent was slowly fading out of existence.
It was hard to think about. When she had become his apprentice moons ago, the den held the overwhelming scent of herbs and the familiar taste of the red coated tomcat who had lived within the den alone after the loss of his own mentor. Ebonyheart had spent moons curled up in her own nest, close to the warm body of Sandblaze every night. She had padded alongside him, learned from him, watched him as she grew and aged.
Yet... now she was alone.
Lifting her head after lowering Tigerpaw's patched foot, the large molly let her pale gaze travel over the den area, slowly letting her mind recount the first time she had stepped paw into it as a young apprentice. At first it was just a new den, though unlike warrior wards, she would not leave this one until she either joined Starclan or followed her former mentor's steps and retired to leave the clan within a set of different yet capable paws.
"I suppose it does seem different..." Her tone was softer than it had been during their entire previous conversation. There was the faintest hint of emotion under the sharp tone of properness that she always held. Things were changing at a rapid pace, her youth something that was suddenly a prominent thing in her mind as time continued to fly past her pale gaze.
Things that once were, were no longer.
Sandblaze had retired despite his youth, his hearing fleeing from him due to a poor accident involving the freezing river during Leafbare. Hawkstar and Frozenrain, the head figures of the clan for as long as any living cat could remember finally walked among the others of Starclan, living pain and age free together. Valiantstride was aging and his health would prevent many more moons as Birdstar's deputy... Even her own mother, Rabbitfur was no longer a warrior as she retired to sleep among the Elder's den with her sister and brother.
Despite not being an emotional type, or even a highly sentimental type, there was a twinge of uncertainty and pain that wriggled it's way into the heart of the large healer. With a flicker of her nub, Ebonyheart returned her mossy gaze to where Tigerpaw sat, curiosity riddled within his own eyes as he awaited an answer to the question he inquired of her.
"Eventually." She parted her maw to speak, the words rumbling within her chest as she responded. "I am still young, and there is still much for me to learn before I decide to take on an apprentice of my own." It was different for healers. Logically they should only have one apprentice during their entire tenure, unlike warriors who took on several to pass on their knowledge too.
"For now, however, I'll just settle on healing stubborn apprentices of others." Her tone was light, despite their earlier arguments as her gaze flickered knowingly towards the youngster in her presence. There was no doubt in her mind that she would be seeing him again, both as an apprentice and perhaps long into his young warrior moons.

The look that she had in her eyes did not match the look she held on her face; but the eyes were mirror to what others were truly feeling on the inside, Tigerpaw learned that quiet young of age so he didn't miss the way her eyes wondered along the den walls and space around them that held the remnant of herb stocks and nests. He often came in here for his follies but until recently the den had not felt as empty as it had at this moment. His previous argument with her faded as a sense of loneliness washed over him. He couldn't imagine her going through being here alone all the time after her mentor had retired after being with that same cat for so long. And Tigerpaw knew what it meant to be lonely; his best friend and the one he always looked up to passed away, his father and although granted Sandblaze still lived; after having been with a cat for so long in one space and suddenly them no longer being there no matter their state of health kind of pulled a heart string. The way her voice softened made the fight and curiousity flee from his hyper active brain and body as he studied her. She was still young of course and had much to learn with experience and mistakes in the future; Tigerpaw only now realized though she would be doing it alone and what a lonely life that must be for her. She must have realized it too, up until she decided it was her time to find someone to pass on her knowledge to she'd be alone; except of course when there was a rowdy and brainless apprentice like himself who'd stumble in for with splinters and scrapes from another foolish thing they've done. His amber eyes stared hard at the walls and then he made a promise to himself as he stood up to his paws after she was done with them and looked her straight in the face before his own lit up with a bright smile that was reserved for the closest of people.
"And you know what? That's okay, you are still young and although you have a long road ahead of you whether it be with an apprentice or not; it doesn't matter. You won't ever be alone no matter what cause I'll be here to bother you every chance I get just so you don't have to feel like you're alone in here." he told her with a resolved look on his face that clearly said he wasn't joking.
Now that promise he made to her would probably not make her feel any better as they always seemed to bicker and argue over everything because he was an airhead and liked to argue. But, at the end of the day he'd given her what he'd promised; companionship in the lonely den. And that was fine by him. He looked at his scraped up padded paw and flexed his claws and paw a second before deeming it not broken and okay to walk on. He stood to his paws once more and did something that she was probably not used it...he gave her a hug.
