F or some reason, Briarpaw had been quite convinced she wouldn't be able to do any sort of tunneling until they were well into the start of Newleaf. She wasn't sure now what exactly had given her that idea (maybe her mother, as a way to keep her from the tunnels until she was an apprentice), but she'd spent the last handful of moons moaning and groaning about it. Lynxfire, as a general rule, didn't seem to much tolerate her moaning when she did it, so she hadn't actually told her the tunnels were used until just this morning when she'd caught her poking her head in one as her mentor left on a border patrol.  And that was when Lynxfire had told her she'd spoken to someone about showing her the basics of the tunnels, and Briarpaw could not possibly be more ecstatic about this news. All through her kithood, she'd heard about how dangerous the tunnels could be, and the danger of it had, of course, immediately garnered her attention. She'd been desperate to become a tunneler ever since she'd heard of the death of a warrior many moons ago had been the result of a tunnel collapsing. Hearing about danger and death had the opposite affect on Briarpaw than it ought to; she ended up feeling excitement and attraction toward such things instead of fear. Now, she was pacing around the front of the apprentices' den where she'd been told to wait for whoever was going to show her the tunnels this morning. She hoped it wouldn't be one of the warriors who she'd made fun of previously, an early morning tradition she'd started when she was still living in the nursery. Some cats were so sensitive over such things. She lashed her tail as she paced, hardly able to contain her excitement.

    Redstar had been proud to give Lynxfire her first apprentice, she had grown so much since she had been one herself after all. If the fiery pelted tom was being honest he would have to admit that during Lynxfire's apprenticeship he had his doubts she would ever be mature enough to have one of her own... or survive to receive her warrior name for that matter. Alas she did, and she had, and after everything Lynxfire approached Redstar with a request for her apprentice. The idea of working with Briarpaw excited Redstar, he would finally get to see what she was being taught, and thus he quickly agreed to show her the tunnels she wished to see so badly. The plans were made, and upon coming to collect Briarpaw he found her pacing outside of the apprentices den. She was clearly itching to go, which Redstar could understand, and he spoke as he approached. "Are you ready to go Briarpaw?"

B riarpaw had not been told who exactly would be overseeing her tunnel training today, so she was simply looking out for any warrior that walked up to her. So far though, only the dawn patrol had spared her a glance as they returned, and none of the party approached her, which meant her hopes for Owlmind (who had been on the patrol) to be her tunnel mentor had struck out. She greatly admired the LightningClan deputy - she was, after all, one of the few cats who actually intimidated Briarpaw a little bit. Her mind wandered only for a moment, and then suddenly, she was being addressed. The young she-cat turned in place, eyes widening a fraction as she realized who it was that would be taking her out on this little training session. "Redstar?" She couldn't help but blurt his name out, incredulous Lynxfire had asked their leader himself to assist in Briarpaw's training - and then she remembered. Redstar had been Lynxfire's mentor a long time ago, hadn't he? Briarpaw's tail curled at this revelation, and she quickly recovered herself and her usual confidence. "I feel like I've been ready to go my entire life for this moment!" she declared, her eyes gleaming bright. "Is it true that tunneling is really dangerous? I can't wait!" Her excitement at the prospect of tunneling, plus the revelation that Redstar was going to be showing her the ropes, had combined to make her more energetic than she usually was, and she had to make herself not run circles around her Clan leader. "I mean... I'll be so responsible, Redstar. I swear. I'll listen to everything you say." Though she was going to reserve her right to offer witty commentary, of course. "I'm ready to go when you are!"
