• Glacierpaw's excitement was read not in the face, but in the twitchiness of his paws and leg muscles. Every inch of the leggy tom buzzed. Even from cats that were morning people, he was getting looks. Glacierpaw stretched backwards and forwards to ease the tension building up in his hindlegs. He wanted to bolt through the snow, but he knew he would waste valuable energy doing that. He just needed to wait until Pumafang returned with the warrior he'd been looking for. StarClan seemed to grace him with promptness. Soon, his mentor appeared atop a snowbank, looking fierce as always. He gave Glacierpaw orders to move out for hunting. The apprentice had moons to his name now, and he was close to becoming of age. In new-leaf, if Lionstar and Pumafang approved of his progress, he'd be named a warrior. Because of this, Pumafang's training had intensified in both frequency and strenuousness, a combination perfect for Glacierpaw's founts of energy. Pumafang's command this time required him to journey away from camp into the deep woods. Although he would be isolated from everyone else, Glacierpaw did not complain. The prey wouldn't be dancing out in the open close to camp; he would have a better shot at hunting away from the thick scent of TreeClan cats. He'd been there many times before, but always on the heels of his mentor. Glacierpaw held his head high to find the sun, but it was hidden behind overcast skies. The cold winds whistled through the trees. Glacierpaw's dense pelt kept out most of it thankfully, so off he went, his deer-like legs crossing the snow with ease. When he'd put many fox-lengths between himself and camp, and the sounds of TreeClan abated, Glacierpaw put his nose and ears to work. The snow muffled noise, and there were hardly any natural sounds in the winter-bound woods. All of the sounds he'd gotten used to as a kit and young tom were snuffed out. No geese quacking from the river. No songbirds whistling freely in the trees. Only the soft pnuf-pnuf-pnuf-pnuf of his paws breaking through the snow crust. He found a big pine with a wide skirt of branches. The tree's needles were coated in snow, but underneath was completely dry and surprisingly comfortable thanks to the bed of yellowed pine needles at its base. Glacierpaw crawled underneath the boughs weighed down by snow. He pushed apart the dried needles and wriggled inside, allowing the pine scent to envelope him while he waited very patiently for any sight or smell of prey. current calendar Leaf-bare 17: All bodies of water are completely iced over, even the river. Though the snow falls slowly, it is persistent. Prey tracks are quick to disappear, and scents are blanketed by the snowfall. | GLACIERPAW of TREECLAN • apprentice • 10 and a half moons • #4a6c92 out-of-character remarks Hellion thank you for offering up duskrose as his warrior overseer for his hunting training thread! if anyone else is interested in participating, please hit me up on discord |
