Shellfur 39 Moons . Rainclan Warrior
It had only happened minutes ago. Rainclan's leader had called the clan together to announce a new apprentice for the clan, new paws to train and learn. As always, the cream and flame point she-cat found herself sitting among the outside of the group, lingering away from the closest warrior. Lowering her haunches and wrapping her feathered tail around her paws, the warrioress had hardly been paying attention as Silverstar spoke to the loner born kit.
That is, until her name was called.
Deep blue eyes had widened as she was called for Silentpaw's mentor and unless Brambletail, her own former mentor, had nudged her forwards then she might have been stuck in one spot for a moment. Her ears had burned as she felt all eyes upon her as she made her way up to Silentpaw, dipping her head to touch his nose and relieved when the crowd chanted his named and dispersed to leave the two of them to their own business.
That had been before Shellfur silently beckoned the near mute apprentice to follow her out of the comfort of Rainclan's camp and onto the Delta. Anxiety already riddled her pelt as the medium length she-cat padded softly through the dry reeds and cracked earth underpaw. She had never been a mentor before, she had no idea where to even start, and despite her youth Shellfur felt like her training with Brambletail had been ages ago.
Stonefern would have been a better mentor... The thought was acid within her head and the bitter inner voice didn't make her feel any better about her current situation. And of course, none of this would aid Silentpaw as he hoped to grow into a warrior for Rainclan. Steeling her nerves and forcing on her persona, Shellfur finally stopped walking to turn and speak to the more silent of the two quiet cats.
"Okay Silentpaw..." She started, letting her deep blue gaze run over the ginger and white tom for a moment. He had been in the clan for a while, a young kit found by a couple other warriors as he wandered around the territory without sight or scent of his parents or any other possible family. Shellfur, however, tended to keep to herself, emotions scarred from her verbally abusive mother obviously left it's mark. Her false confidence was starting to waver as she tried to hide her inner emotions as they warred within her tightening chest.
What if she screwed up his training? What if Silverstar thought it was a mistake and gave him to another cat?
The questions pounded her head for a moment, causing her heart to squeeze before she shook herself, playing it off as if she were stretching. "We'll be walking along the borders today, so prepare for your paws to hurt by the time we return home." There was a forced smile, but it looked natural as she fell into that false comfort, a shield to protect herself. Her feathered tail flickered slightly as she continued, figuring it wouldn't hurt for little history lesson either. "Rainclan had been a neutral clan for a while, Silverstar likes to stay out of the troubles and fighting the others go through, so both Nightclan and Stoneclan's borders will be fairly quiet and calm."
Though, it didn't seem like that long ago that Rainclan itself had a lot of problems. The Civil War that split the clan was vague within her mind, as she was young when her parents decided to return home with her and her sister. Times had changed and with their current leader it seemed peace was finally in the water.
"We'll head towards Stoneclan first, make a big circle of the territory and then head home. " Shellfur paused, flicking a ear for a moment before she added, "Let me know if you need a break, don't want to wear out your paws on the first day of training." Amusement filtered through those watery pools as a small smile reached her flame tipped maw. With just the two of them, she was growing more comfortable and confident within herself, it was unfortunate that it only happened when she was alone or with a singular clanmate.

S I L E N T P A W The day had arrived. The day that Silent had been waiting for. Despite the fact that he had technically become an official member of the clan last season, he was finally going to receive his ceremony that he had been told about. He would be presented to the clan, given a new name, and assigned to a cat to train him in the ways of the clan. He had learned a lot about Rainclan and the other clans over the time he had spent with Rainclan, but he was excited to start his official training. When he was called forward, he listened to Silverstar’s little speech with a smile. His new name was Silentpaw. When Silverstar announced his new mentor’s name, a cat named Shellfur, Silent looked around him to see who this cat was, for he didn’t remember ever hearing that name before. It was a mostly white she-cat with orange and cream colored accents, much like himself only the white held stronger than the orange.
As the she-cat walked forward, he lifted his head and touched noses with her, a deep and loud purr rumbling out of his chest. Just as quickly as the ceremony began, it ended, and he already found himself being motioned to follow Shellfur. As he trotted after her, he looked around himself once more at the land, which was beginning to dry up due to the arrival of Greenleaf. Surprisingly enough, he had never experienced a Greenleaf before, for he was born during Leaf-fall. So his eyes, as they usually were, were wide and interested in the area around him. He was so intrigued that he nearly ran into Shellfur when she stopped and turned to look at him. He took a step back and looked up to her, a smile on his face and his blue eyes large.
Even though she was nervous and having doubtful thoughts, Silentpaw didn’t really seem to notice or sense it. She was hiding it particularly well, but considering Silentpaw had always been used to reading someone based on their body language, it was a surprise that he didn’t see how she was acting. Either that or he did see and just didn’t care. Perhaps he was too excited to pay attention.
When she began to speak, he blinked a few times, taking in some what she was saying. Walking. Borders. Paws. Hurt. Home. This was all that he truly understood of her sentence, but putting those words together, he understood what she said and nodded. When she began to speak again, his eyes got slightly narrower, seeming to fully focus on the words she was saying. Rainclan. Neutral. Silverstar. Trouble. Fighting. Nightclan. Stoneclan. Borders. Quiet. This was...a bit more difficult to understand. He tilted his head, slightly confused. Rainclan was neutral, he knew that much. He kind of got the last part of what she said, but he just shook his head, the smile back on his face and his eyes wide. He knew that Rainclan was neutral and that they would be going to the Nightclan and Stoneclan borders, which was all he really needed to know.
From that point on after they began walking, Silent didn’t fully listen, but he did hear bits and pieces. Stoneclan, territory, home, break, paws, training. He didn’t really put it all together, but at the moment he was more focused on the area around them.

Shellfur 39 Moons . Rainclan Warrior
The cream pointed feline continued to keep an eye upon the young cat with her. He was a quiet as his name foretold and the last thing they warrioress needed was for him to have either wandered off silently or disappeared because she hadn't been paying enough attention to him. While she was just as capable as any other warrior, anxiety trickled into her brain and caused her to doubt and rethink every other thing. She couldn't let her first apprentice be a failure....
It would only serve to prove her parents right.
The thought caused the pretty she-cat's ears to flatten against her head for a moment, once again loosing herself to the inner workings of her mind, which happened to be fairly pessimistic thoughts. How could they be any less, she had only grown up hearing how everything she did was incorrect or wrong. Not even Brambletail's encouraging mentorship could ease the mental and emotional damage done by both Willowflame and Fishleap.
Giving a soft sigh and forcing her mind away from such disturbances, the feather pelted she-cat turned her watery blue pools away from the path in-front of her paws and back towards the ginger and white tom padding only a few paw-steps behind her. Slowing her stride so that Silentpaw caught up, Shellfur opened her maw to speak in her soft voice once more, wondering how much the younger cat actually retained and what slipped over his head.
"Pause for a moment Silentpaw." Shellfur slowed her steps to a stop where the scent of Rainclan clashed with that of another, a more earthier smell. "Open your mouth, it will help you remember the scent of Stoneclan. This is the border we share with them, they have a more barren and rocky terrain than our reed beds and sand banks." Though not in a cruel way, Shellfur made sure to speak each word clearly and slowly in hopes that Silentpaw retained everything that she taught him.
It was her job to make sure one day he was a well trained and equipped warrior of Rainclan.
Of course, that thought only made her inner anxiety grow within her chest.
"Once you familiarize yourself with Stoneclan's scent then we'll follow along the border and re-scent it on our way to Nightclan's shared border." Shellfur gave out the next leg of their trip. Her blue pools shifted to glance at the sky, trying to judge how much time they had left before the sun dipped down behind the mountains. She had no doubt that by the time she and Silentpaw returned to camp that the poor apprentice would practically be asleep on his paws.

S I L E N T P A W As odd of a subject as it was to think about during his first day of training, the young tom, eyes wide and constantly moving, had begun to think about what he had learned of the seasons. Newleaf, Greenleaf, Leaf-fall, and Leafbare. He had experienced cold temperatures and falling snow for most of his life, having grown used to the feeling of being cold. When Newleaf arrived during his time staying with Rainclan, he had felt the temperature begin to rise slowly each day, rain falling instead of snow, the sight of ice formed over bodies of water melting, and the snow itself melting into the ground.
Did all younger cats do this as well? Did they take a random moment in the day to start observing the changing of the seasons that they hadn’t witnessed before, or was it just something that was just explained to them and they accepted it as it happened? Regardless, these thoughts distracted Silentpaw enough that he had brought himself to a stop at one point, taking a few seconds to stare at and nose a bush that was growing in full swing. When he saw that Shellfur continued, he quickly caught up with her, but he still couldn’t help but look at each bush that he passed. Throughout the first few moons of his life all he had seen were mainly tall trees and dead plants. But now he found himself surrounded by greenery. It was a pleasant change, in truth.
When a very out-of-place and strong scent suddenly filled his small orange-pink nose, the orange tabby’s ears perked and he looked ahead, boulders and a much more rocky terrain expanding away from them. He listened to Shellfur as she began to speak, taking a part her sentence as he always did. So this was the Stoneclan border? His eyes turned to her as she spoke, though, his head tilting at her words. She wanted him to open his mouth? What would that do? Blinking a few times in confusion, the tom looked towards the ground for a moment.
He then proceeded to lift his head to face forward and opened his mouth as widely as he possibly could, his tongue wiggling in his mouth. Had it not been for the bones and structure of his face, his jaw likely would have unhinged. He was young, after all. Tell him to open his mouth, and he will do so.
Having already heard his mentor’s following statements, the tom then proceeded to turn and walk along the border in the direction that he assumed led towards Nightclan, his mouth still wide open, his tail lifted and waving happily behind him, and his paws just barely sending him into a sort of prance.

Shellfur 39 Moons . Rainclan Warrior
The flame point stood there, watching her apprentice silently and happily pranced down the border with his jaw dropped open and his prickly pink tongue threatening to loll out the side. Amusement washed over the pretty she-cat's expression as her guard slowly fell away with the easing presence of the ginger and white tom. With her unreadable cerulean gaze following Silentpaw, the warrioress gave a wriggle of her whiskers before following him down the side of Stoneclan's border, making sure to re-scent a couple of spots along the way.
It was within those few moments that some of the nervous she-cat's anxiety melted away like the ice did at the end of Leafbare. Perhaps it wouldn't be so hard as she originally thought when Silvertar had bestowed Silentpaw under her wing. Despite all her mentor's hard work, the older feline still took a long time to earn her warrior's name. Far longer than it took her sister, Stonefern, to earn hers, much to the negative expectations of her parents.
But, as Shellfur padded softly behind the prancing apprentice, she couldn't help but wonder if she had possibly been given the best apprentice for the type of cat she was. Silentpaw wasn't there to judge her, or determined to make her fail at every twist or turn. He knew as much about learning the ways of the clans as she did teaching it, but perhaps with time and training the young tom would turn into a wonderful warrior that Rainclan would be proud of.
Maybe Shellfur could also find her confidence as she aided him along his path. Maybe she could find her place within the clan that she had been born into.
Pausing, Shellfur looked out over into Stoneclan's barren landscape before turning her head back to where Silentpaw padded. Flickering her feathered tail, the cream she-cat called out to him. "Come on Silentpaw, let's go check out Nightclan's border." Despite the calmness of the territory session with her apprentice, the feathered feline wanted to get all the way around the territory before night fell. The ginger and white tom would need a good night's rest after such a long day on his paws.
Making her way to his side, Shellfur gave a small purr as he still had his mouth open. Flicking that tail once more, she brushed it against his jaw, "You can close your mouth if you want, don't want to swallow a fly or something." She gave a soft tease, evident within her blue gaze before the emotion fluttered away like a reflection upon the surface of the river. With a final twist of an ear, the medium coated she-cat made her way forwards to lead Silentpaw towards their next destination.
