Name: Emberlight
Age: 47 moons
Gender: tom
Clan: Rainclain
Rank: Warrior
Picture:
Description: A small and lean cat, Emberlight has always had to work harder to keep up with the other warriors of Rainclan. He is a very capable fighter, but his fighting skills are not what he is heralded about. Emberlight's fur is ruddy with golden highlights, catching even the smallest amount of light to make him seem to shine. His eyes are a soft amber with yellow flecks that almost seem golden.
Emberlight's most notable features are his ears and tail, both of which are rather large. Emberlight takes great pride in his looks, keeping grooming in his nightly routine in order to keep his fur soft. He walks with an air of confidence, but he does not seem arrogant in any way. A large scar travels vertically down his nose, something that Emberlight has grown to take pride in.
The curve of Emberlight's face is rather feminine, but it has never been an issue for this Abyssinian cat, who is in touch with his femininity and not insecure about his softer features.
Description Summary: A petite medium-furred ruddy tom with amber eyes.
Personality:
+ Radiant
+ Wise
+ Fair
+/- Bold
+/- Selfless
- Sensitive
Radiant
He doesn't necessarily mean to, but just about everything Emberlight says or does just tends to resonate. His kind soul and light-hearted attitude makes him a magnet for other cats, and he welcomes that. Emberlight really enjoys sharing his positivity for others, viewing himself as a beacon of light to inspire the younger generation.
Wise
Emberlight did not start off very wise, but he always has had a mind to learn. Throughout his life, Emberlight has learned many lessons that have sharpened his mind without hardening his heart. He always has a proverb or two up his sleeve to apply to any situation, even though sometimes they may seem cryptic to others.
Fair
Clan boundaries, while very important to Emberlight, mean nothing when it comes to justice. He has always considered himself bound to a strict moral code, and if a member of his own clan were to do something wrong to a cat of another clan, Emberlight would be quick to reprimand them. He also believes in helping all of his clanmates to have equal opportunities, no matter their abilities.
Bold
Emberlight can sometimes be considered a little brash. He is not afraid to communicate his opinions and speak out when he does not agree. While it is wonderful that Emberlight is unashamed of his opinions, his bluntness has gotten him into a few scuffles -- one of which has left him with a scar on his nose (those who ask him about it are regaled with a different story each time).
Selfless
If another cat will be hurt, then Emberlight -- no questions asked -- will run into the fray to stop them. Again, it is a great thing for his clanmates, who can always count on Emberlight to do everything in his ability to help; however, it is not so great for Emberlight, whose selfless nature has caused him to get beat up a number of times. Of course, his fighting has improved a lot as a result of this, but Emberlight still struggles with the odds he often finds himself going up against.
Sensitive
Yes, Emberlight is wise. And yes, he has a strong opinion. However, sometimes the things that others say or do that affect him deeply. When someone has a negative comment against Emberlight, despite his attempts to shut it out, he takes it to heart quickly. He cares very much about his reputation, so in his mind, any negative comment means that someone wants to tarnish it.
History:
Kithood~
Born into a broken family, Emberkit was the emotional support of his mother, Greytail. He never really knew why, but Emberkit always found himself comforting his upset mother in the still of night. He tried his best, getting incredibly upset whenever his sweet mother broke down night after night. It was no surprise to the other clan members when it happened, but when Greytail died with a broken heart, Emberkit was caught off guard and completely distraught. From that moment, Emberkit's kithood was completely changed. He would often sit in silence and watch as other kits had fun with their mothers, begging the cats of Starclan to explain to him why his mother left him so soon. Emberkit's father, Earthclaw, was there for him when he absolutely needed a father figure, but other than that, he remained absent from his life. One day, fed up with his father's absence, Emberkit ran to find him and confront him, begging Earthclaw to explain to the young kit why he didn't feel a need to be there for his own son. This made Earthclaw angry, so he lashed out, striking Emberkit in the head. He didn't mean to extend his claws, but when Earthclaw saw the blood running down Emberkits nose, he felt regret immediately. From that moment on, Emberkit and his father never spoke again.
Apprenticeship~
When Emberkit was named Emberpaw, he was given Troutfur as a mentor. Troutfur was something of a foil for Emberpaw. He was constantly happy, finding a joke to lighten a situation. Their relationship started off tough: Emberpaw hated how Troutfur was so happy. The Abyssinian cat would constantly berate his mentor with questions like, "How can you be so happy when there is so much wrong with this world?" With questions like that, Troutfur would look down at Emberpaw with a sparkle in his blue eyes, replying, "Because there are so many good things in it worth fighting for." Emberpaw never agreed with him, but Troutfur's lessons started to rub off on him. During the course of a few moons, Emberpaw went from a miserable excuse of a cat to one who woke up every morning with a glint in his eyes. From his time with Troutfur, Emberpaw not only learned how to become a warrior, but how to become a wise and grateful cat.
While he was on the home stretch in his training as an apprentice, Emberpaw and Troutfur came across a dam. Emberpaw's natural curiosity got the best of him, so he ventured much too close to it. Emberpaw didn't even notice the two beavers coming up behind him.
Emberpaw fought as bravely as any apprentice could, but it wasn't enough. Troutfur pulled Emberpaw out of the middle of the fray, replacing the ruddy apprentice fighting the beavers. Troutfur yowled for Emberpaw to run, so the apprentice ran back to where he knew a Rainclan patrol was. Eventually, he found a patrol of five cats, who ran past the limping apprentice to aid Troutfur.
When Emberpaw finally got to where the battle between the six warriors and two beavers had been, he saw three mangled bodies: two beavers and one cat. Upon closer inspection, Emberpaw saw that the bloodstained fur was a deep grey, and he quickly realized his fun-loving mentor had died.
Upon returning to camp, Emberpaw was incredibly distraught. He had not realized how much of a father figure Troutfur had become until he lost him.
The leader commended Emberpaw for his "bravery," but the apprentice didn't feel brave. He knew that he should have stayed back and fought those beavers. It was at that moment that Emberpaw decided he would never abandon anyone to fight alone, no matter the odds. His newfound moral helped him to grow, and soon Emberpaw was back to his usual shining self. Other cats of the clan took notice, some even mentioning to him that they felt inspired by his budding positivity. His positivity earned him the named "Emberlight."
Warrior~
Shortly after being named a warrior, Emberlight was given an apprentice: Sparrowpaw. He did all he could to impart the lessons he had learned onto her, but she liked to fight his wisdom with her own carelessness. He would be blunt with her, and she would be blunt in return. She was one of the first few cats who did not know the story of Emberlight's scar on his nose, so she would constantly pester him about it. Each time, he would tell her a different story, annoying the spunky young apprentice. He started to enjoy the lie as it made him forget the real reason his nose had been hurt. As Sparrowpaw grew into a capable fighter, she also grew as a friend. Emberlight and Sparrowpaw would spend time together to share food or talk about life's great mysteries. Of course, due to this, rumors began to arise that Emberlight was in love with his apprentice. The Abyssinian cat was absolutely appalled, pulling back from his friendship with his apprentice as a result of those rumors, damaging the healthy dynamic that the two cats had. From that moment on, Emberlight treated Sparrowpaw as nothing more than an apprentice, growing cold with her every time she tried to poke fun at him.
Eventually, Sparrowpaw became Sparrowfoot, and Emberlight felt a sense of relief as the rumors began to fade, his positive reputation coming back. He remained a good warrior, helping those in need and hunting well, but something always felt a little off.
During a rough leaf bare, Earthclaw lost his life to green cough. Emberlight felt a wide variety of emotions at this, but the most surprising one he felt was regret. Regret that he had not taken the time during his adult life to learn about his father and bond with him. Emberlight truly believed deep down that his father did not have bad intentions. It caused him pain as a kit and pain as a warrior who lost his father, but it also pushed him to see the good in others as well.
Emberlight lost a lot throughout his life. However, his pervading spirit and ability to learn from everything helped him to rise above it all and be loved by all of his clanmates.
RP Example:
A warm ray of sun crept its way into the warriors den, illuminating Emberlight's fur and causing him to slowly blink open his eyes. The golden cat slowly rose his head from his paws, smacking his mouth a couple times as he tasted the morning on his tongue.
Hungry.
Emberlight felt his stomach clench, scowling at the slight ache that accompanied it. This leaf bare had been a rough one, and many cats such as Emberlight found themselves going to sleep on an empty stomach. He had gotten used to the feeling, but it was still difficult to wake up every morning with hunger pains.
With a big yawn, Emberlight stretched and left the warrior den, looking at the empty space where all the food had once been piled up. His stomach released a loud growl, and Emberlight narrowed his eyes with frustration. He needed to eat. Looking to the entrance of the camp, he saw a familiar cat sitting, looking expectantly. Sparrowfoot!
Emberlight could not help the small smile that crept onto his face when he saw his once great friend looking expectantly at him. With nothing more than a flick of his tail, Emberlight signaled for the tabby to follow him out. Today they would feed the clan.
The two cats padded out of the camp, looking with disappointment at the barren landscape around them. Leafbare really was the worst. Emberlight focused his gaze on the river when he saw a white-speckled flash. Glancing over at Sparrowfoot, he saw that she had noticed it as well.
"I'll scare it to the shore. Do not miss this."
The ruddy tom jumped into the water, paddling over to where he saw the white splashing. Dipping his head under water, Emberlight saw the biggest rainbow trout he had ever seen. With a desperate determination, Emberlight paddled faster and faster until he was almost upon the fish. It noticed him, swimming away. Farther and farther away, until..
Splash! A cloud of blood began to form around the fish, and after a few moments it was pulled out of the water. Emberlight smiled and raised his head out of the river, looking with pride at Sparrowfoot, who was sitting and beaming at the large fish at her feet.
"Looks like we won't be going hungry today," the she-cat said with a wide smile. Emberlight climbed out of the water and shook the droplets out of his pelt, laughing with pure happiness at the sheer size of the fish. "Eating good food is one of life's greatest joys," he said with a chuckle, his rumbling belly affirming his statement.
The two cats grabbed opposite ends of the fish, stumbling back to camp with warm eyes. Upon arriving to camp, Emberlight felt extra proud of him and Sparrowfoot when the other cats' eyes widened at the sight of the kill. This fish was more than just a meal for a few cats. This fish was the promise of a bountiful newleaf to come.
Other: Drawing inspiration from two sources: Balder, the Norse god of light and purity; and Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender. This won't be for a while, but Balder was killed by his own friend in a tragic accident. I want something kind of similar for Emberlight when his time comes
