Minkpaw had been waiting - and not very patiently - for the chance to attend a Gathering. She wanted to meet cats from all the other Clans and see if they were all just as fun to mess with as her own Clanmates. Tonight was a night of peace and blah blah blah but it wasn’t like she was planning on starting any fights. Inciting them was different. If she wasn’t the first to unsheathe her claws, who could blame her for some other cat’s lack of self control? And speaking of lack of self control…. A malicious grin spread over Minkpaw’s face as she spotted the familiar fluffy pelt of her favorite cat to tease. Lynxpaw was here tonight. It had been some time since she had seen the LightningClan she-cat. Parting from her Clanmates, Minkpaw strutted over, giving the ginger tom at Lynxpaw's side a quick once over as she approached. He smelled of LightningClan too, with the familiar tang of herbs that had her guessing he was training as a medicine cat. Lifting her tail as if in friendly greeting, she turned her attention back to Lynxpaw, “Hey there mossball, who's your scrawny friend?” The ginger tom shrank a little under her critical eye. No wonder he was a medicine cat, he was timid as a mouse. She leaned toward him a little, “What, do LightningClan cats take mice as mates as well as rabbits?” “Wh-what…?” Tigerpaw stared up at her in confusion. Taxx

L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire Lynxpaw had been looking forward to going to a Gathering since she'd become an apprentice. How odd, then, that now she was here... she couldn't manage more than a glimmer of excitement. Side by side with her brother, Lynxpaw glanced around at the cats from the other Clans, mingling and chatting among themselves freely; her nose wrinkled at the unfamiliar scents that filled her nose; StoneClan and TreeClan were more familiar, but NightClan's damp, piney scent and RainClan's reek of fish and mud were wholly new- and incredibly unpleasant. She sneezed, rubbed a paw over her nose, and sat, leaning a shoulder against Tigerpaw as she tracked Firestar to the leaders' rock.
Pale fur flashed in the moonlight and Lynxpaw turned her gaze; eyes widened in recognition and then narrowed, her tail jerking with the first prickles of irritation. Which only increased with the first words that spilled from the other young she-cat's mouth. "It's Lynxpaw," she snapped, and the fur down her spine began to bristle at the remembrance of her insult about Russetfur being a rabbit, which in turn gave fresh life to the grief over his passing. She wasn't in any mood to deal with Minkpaw tonight- or any night, really, but this one in particular. Thank StarClan she and Minkpaw weren't in the same Clan.
"He's my brother, Tigerpaw." She glowered at the StoneClan apprentice, eyes narrowed as she silently dared the pale she-cat to say one more bad thing about him. "Why don't you just shove off and leave us alone? I'm sure there's someone else you can annoy from another Clan." And you're gonna hear me roar @zen

Tigerpaw flinched at his sister's sharp retort to the StoneClan she-cat. StarClan help him, was he going to have to try to prevent a fight at a gathering? The StoneClanner was clearly being rude, and his sister could never control her temper, least of all right now when she, like him, was hurting from the loss of their father. “You seem more touchy than normal there mossball,” Minkpaw grinned, “I still can't believe you don't like my nickname for you. Don't you know that's what friends do?” She eyed Tigerpaw again, considering his name and snorting in amused disbelief. Tigers were supposed to be big and fearless. This tom looked like he was about to start shaking like a leaf at the slightest breath of wind. And he was her brother? They looked nothing alike, and they certainly didn't act alike, not that that meant anything, considering Snowpaw. “You sure one of you wasn't adopted, cuz you don't look at all related.” “N-no… we weren't,” Tigerpaw spoke up then, though to be honest it would sure explain why he didn't seem to fit in as the kit of a leader. “Uh huh,” Minkpaw gave him a blank stare, clearly not believing that, and he pressed a little closer to Lynxpaw. Her whiskers twitched with some amusement as she moved on, putting on her best Ebonypaw impression, “Oh how rude of me, I haven't even introduced myself yet. It's so lovely to meet you Tigerpaw. I'm Minkpaw.” Tigerpaw blinked in surprise at her sudden change in demeanor, “Uhm… nice to meet you… Minkpaw.” He cast a confused look at his sister as if she might be able to explain Minkpaw's odd behavior. Minkpaw's fluffy tail waved behind her in amused contentment, “So I haven't seen you in a while mossball. Been avoiding anymore foxes? I hear they like to eat rabbits so you're probably especially delicious looking.” Taxx

L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire "It's Lynxpaw!" the tabby hissed, ears pinning back at the repeated use of the nickname she hated. "And we're not friends!" Everything this she-cat was saying ruffled Lynxpaw's fur more, and it was getting harder to keep from wanting to leap at her and claw her across the face. Her comment on whether one of them was adopted was met with another hiss, a jerk of her short tail from side to side matched by tense muscles and narrowed eyes.
In no way did she trust the sudden change, glaring coldly with the fur on her shoulders prickling, claws flexing into the powdering of snow underfoot; a heat of anger sent her fur to bristling and she took rapid steps forward, putting herself nose-to-nose with Minkpaw, a growl rolling in her chest. "Call me mossball one more time. I dare you." Green eyes burned with fury, and she didn't care that she was in the middle of a Gathering, or that there was supposed to be peace between the Clans on this night. She wasn't going to put up with any more mockery from this apprentice, and if she tried it, Lynxpaw would have no trouble making her eat those words. And you're gonna hear me roar @zen

Minkpaw took a half step back at Lynxpaw's hostility, feigning hurt as the LightningClan apprentice snarled that they were, in fact, not friends. Her voice was all innocence, again taking up a tone similar to Ebonypaw, “What? We're not? But we always have so much fun together. That's why I gave you such a cute nickname! Oh dear, it seems like there's been some sort of horrible misunderstanding….” With Lynxpaw right in her face, her whiskers twitched with amusement, her icy blue eyes easily betraying the fact that she was putting on a show. This was way too much fun. Lynxpaw was so easy to rile up that no cat would ever be able to blame her for starting anything with the simple, harmless jabs she made, especially if she played it off as playful instead of obviously intentional. Behind Lynxpaw, Tigerpaw took a hesitant step forward, “Uhm… Lynxpaw….” He anxiously tried to get his sister's attention as a few cats near them had started staring at the commotion, “I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it….” “Of course not,” Minkpaw agreed enthusiastically, but then she smirked, “Maybe you'd prefer tail-less wonder.” Taxx

L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire Every bit of Lynxpaw's attention was on the StoneClan apprentice, and as Minkpaw took a step back a flicker of pride curled up within her. But her face remained set in a scowl, because the blue eyes looking back at her weren't a bit hesitant, or wary, and she was still running her mouth. Tigerpaw's hesitant attempt to catch Lynxpaw's attention went unheeded, green eyes not moving an inch from the apprentice standing in front of her.
They widened, a mere heartbeat of stillness and silence passing as the insult- for it couldn't be anything else but insult- was given, and then sheer rage flooded the LightningClan tabby. Insults of her own flashed through her mind, but when she opened her mouth to spew them, only a wordless shriek emerged and then she was hurling herself at Minkpaw. Like before, but moons had passed and she wasn't the nursery-soft kit she'd been then. Thoughts of the consequences she'd face never crossed her mind, just a red haze of fury and anger and grief that all broke loose together, and she slashed her claws at Minkpaw as she sprang, crashing into the other apprentice.
She heard yowls ringing out from around her, voices ordering her to stop, but it wasn't until some cat hooked her hind paws out from underneath her and then shoved her away, sending her stumbling back toward Tigerpaw; her chest heaved and her eyes burned with not-yet-spent rage as she turned again to see the StoneClan deputy standing next to Minkpaw; the older cat's claws were unsheathed, her ears pinned and her tail sweeping side to side. Lynxpaw spat, her own claws raking over the ground, her eyes flashing from Smokestorm to Minkpaw. "She insulted me," she snapped, a tremble passing along her body, only for a gleam of triumph to spark to life at the sight of blood on the StoneClan apprentice's muzzle. "You deserved that!" And you're gonna hear me roar @zen

Minkpaw had a moment to feel intense satisfaction as Lynxpaw’s features contorted in fury and a wordless shriek burst from between her jaws, but she had underestimated how little self control her favorite target really had. She hadn’t thought she would attack her at a gathering. Claws caught her right in the face, a stinging blow, and she felt blood well up where Lynxpaw had broken skin even as she went down beneath the LightningClan apprentice’s onslaught. But she wasn’t nursery soft anymore either, and her own anger was building, but it was less at Lynxpaw and more at herself. From their first meeting, how could she not have expected this? She should have been able to anticipate Lynxpaw’s reckless attack, to get out of the way, instead she could feel the burning marks that the birdbrained she-cat’s claws had torn into her face. She battered back at Lynxpaw, trying to get the useless furball off her before she could cause any further damage, but it hardly seemed like Lynxpaw even felt her blows. Tigerpaw stared on with wide eyes, shifting from paw to paw anxiously as he hissed his sister’s name as if there was any way any of this could still be kept discreet, “Lynxpaw! Lynxpaw stop!” He cast a fearful glance toward the moon to see if StarClan would cover it and send them all home because his sister had broken the sacred truce. Suddenly the StoneClan deputy had appeared and managed to shove Lynxpaw back toward him. After a heartbeat’s hesitation, he stepped forward to press against his sister’s side, hoping maybe he could help her calm down. She was always better at staying calm where he was involved… but he wasn’t sure if it would help this time or not. “She insulted me.” Minkpaw’s ears flicked back against her head as she pushed herself back to her paws beside Smokestorm. “You deserved that!” Minkpaw took a half stumbling step closer to Smokestorm, playing up her injury, “I was just joking, it was a misunderstanding! It’s not my fault she’s crazy and broke the truce over a silly nickname!” “She’s not crazy!” Tigerpaw blurted in his sister’s defense, and shortly wilted under Minkpaw’s icy’s glare, pressing closer to Lynxpaw’s side. L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire Minkpaw struck back, the two apprentices wrestling for the moment they were locked together, and then Lynxpaw was staggering away, her chest heaving and one cheek stinging. She felt the trickle of liquid seeping through the fur there, rubbed a paw against it and then winced at the sharper pain that came. Blood matted her own paw and she licked it clean, still glaring at the two StoneClan cats. A motion at her side- but it was just Tigerpaw, and her eyes shifted back to Minkpaw as she spoke.
Her ears pinned back and she growled. "That wasn't a joke and you know it. You don't call someone a..." she trailed off then, barely managing to keep from voicing that nickname for the whole Gathering to hear, and switched tracks. "I told you stop, either way, and you kept on. So who's in the wrong now, huh?"
"You are," the dilute deputy said, standing firm at Minkpaw's side. "Are you a kit that you can't curb your anger? You broke the truce over your poor hurt feelings. You attacked one of my apprentices and made her bleed. And yet, you still claim that you are the victim?"
Rage flared anew in Lynxpaw's gaze, her claws sinking into the ground, and she choked on words for a moment before managing to speak again. "She made me bleed too."
"She defended herself," Smokestorm replied, and then glanced over at Minkpaw. "Why don't you go have Sandblaze look you over. It doesn't look too bad, but we don't need it getting infected. And I will have a word with your Clan's leader, I think," she continued to Lynxpaw, green gaze raking over the ginger tabby at her side with clear disdain, before turning to the leaders' rock. "We'll see what she thinks of your behavior." And you're gonna hear me roar

FIRESTAR leader of lightningclan
Firestar heard Tigerpaw's voice calling toward his sister to stop something. Her son's words were enough to break her of her depressed stupor for a moment and head in his direction. Upon her arrival she saw Smokestorm stand before her daughter, her hackles rose. Lynxpaw appeared to be bleeding causing even more alarm to rise up in Firestar's small frame.
What in StarClan had happened?!
Joining her kits, she pressed her side to Tigerpaw to alert him of her arrival before moving to face Smokestorm head on.
"What is going on?" She spoke directly to Smokestorm before her attention went to the other apprentice at her side. While she didn't know the younger she could guess a scuffle had occurred. It wouldn't be the first to happen at a gathering and likely not the last. She'd reprimand Lynxpaw in the safety and of their camp but for now she intended to deal with Smokestorm politely. No sense worsening the tension between the two long-warring Clans.
