Thornscar 27 Moons, NightClan Warrior, She-Cat
With the season shift, Thornscar felt it was time for her apprentice to showcase what she had learned. She stretched long, enjoying how the gentle breeze floated into the camp and ruffled her fur. Their last leaf-bare was rough, but the young warrior did appreciate the color changes the territories seemed to take on. With one last shake to remove the moss from her paws, Thornscar trotted out of the warrior's den in search of her apprentice.
"Ready to hunt?" Thornscar asked when Crowpaw was found, a smile on her face. The young she-cat had taken to hunting with a skill similar to Thornscar's fighting skills. It was delightful to watch her hunt, and now it was time to see how far those skills went. Today would be a challenge, a final test before Thornscar went to Foxstar and said her apprentice was ready. She had succeeded at everything else which made Thornscar swell with pride.
Thornscar led the way out of camp with a tilt of her head for Crowpaw to follow. "Today's a final test." She said before the apprentice could overwhelm them with questions. "I want you to catch one of everything that can be found in Nightclan's lands. I will be watching for your techniques, and perhaps throwing in a few challenges along the way. You ready?"

CROWPAWAPPRENTICE OF NIGHTCLANThornclaw's voice interrupted Crowpaw's playful wrestling with Acornpaw; she was holding the tom down, her teeth lightly pricking one of his ears while his hind paws gently battered her in the side. At the question, she abandoned the play and bounced to her mentor's side, tail waving excitedly. "Yes!" she cheered, bumping her shoulder against Thornscar's before following the older she-cat from the camp, a brief backwards glance at Acornpaw promising another spar when she returned.
Her steps faltered just a bit as they padded into the forest, blue eyes flicking warily around; the memories of the Gathering still fresh in her mind. Not the strange appearance of the cats, but that of the five foxes that had charged in just behind. The instinctive need to run had carried Crowpaw after the nearest group of cats, as the five Clans scattered like leaves in a storm, and it wasn't until she had fallen into the river that she realized it wasn't NightClan she'd been following.
A she-cat had helped her swim across, putting the river between them and the continuing chaos- screeches ringing in the apprentice's ears and the scent of fear choking her.
She spent the night spent huddled in RainClan's apprentice den, everything from the scent to the way they acted making it impossible to sleep; as such, she was grateful when she was escorted back to NightClan's border. One uncomfortable wade through the river later, she was all too thrilled to spot her mentor racing toward her and the RainClan warriors, who quickly retreated back to their side of the river.
"You'll be close?" Crowpaw asked, a touch of worry in her voice for the still-relevant threat of the foxes, but even with that she was already beginning to consider where to hunt, eager to start. After all, if she did well at this, Thornscar might talk to Foxstar about her ceremony, and she could hardly wait to take her warrior name. williams watch me, i'll make a name for myself

Thornscar 27 Moons, NightClan Warrior, She-Cat You'll be close?"
Thornscar's stomach dropped at the worry in her apprentice's voice, startling her enough to stop walking. She hadn't been at the Gathering. She had only heard what had gone down from the cats who came back, and her blood boiled at the stories. Crowpaw not included in that pack, and even her anger towards the foxes couldn't sweep away the sudden worry Thornscar felt towards the young she-cat. Up until then, the mentorship was just another hurdle, an exciting one that continued her journey to leadership. But seeing the cats come back, their eyes wide with fear, Thornscar sheathed her claws and searched for the cat she had been charged with bringint to warriorhood. And discovering she cared about Crowpaw, well, Thornscar wasn't about to let her sisters know she had spent the day pacing anxiously at the borders for her apprentice's return.
"Of course," Thornscar said, tapping the top of Crowpaw's head with her own. "I will be close enough to assist in anything you need, but far enough away to ensure you actually catch something." Her voice was still the firm cadence she was known for, but a twinge of care colored the edges. She hadn't witnesses the foxes charge the gathered cats, but the memory was sharp for her apprentice, and she would need support for that. I won't try to test her fighting skills, the warrior decided. Purely a hunting test.

CROWPAWAPPRENTICE OF NIGHTCLANThe forehead touch, brief as it was, was met with a purr, Crowpaw accepting the comfort as it was given, and glad for the agreement, She hadn't wanted Thornscar to think her scared, but didn't a wise cat know and accept her weaknesses? At the very least, Crowpaw knew there was no way she could ever fight a fox on her own and win. With Thornscar, she stood a better chance.
"I'll make you proud, Thornscar," she replied, wiping the worry from her tone and whisking her tail as she turned. For a moment she stood still, head up and sniffing the wind, ears twisting for any sounds of prey in the night; all her attention swung to the left, where the patter of tiny paws over the ground came to her. She dropped into the hunting crouch, taking just a heartbeat to make sure her tail was held aloft before she crept forward, heading for the sounds. Its scent touched her nose: a squirrel, excellent.
Keeping close to cover to compensate for her white fur, Crowpaw carefully stalked the squirrel until she felt she was close enough and then sprang. She crashed into the squirrel, pinning it and killing it with a quick bite, her tail waving in a silent gesture of accomplishment. She resisted the urge to glance back at Thornscar- in sight or not, surely her mentor had seen it, and she was meant to do this on her own. She buried the squirrel at the base of the tree.
Then, mindful of her steps, Crowpaw carried on, slinking through the dark forest in search of her next prey. williams watch me, i'll make a name for myself

As her apprentice slunk off through the undergrowth, Thornscar took a deep breath. She didn't expect the concern to bubble up again. They wheren't even that far away from each other, yet here she was. Still nervous about her apprentice's location. Dumb foxes, I hope I can smack one right in the muzzle for making me so worried. Deciding that was enough time for Crowpaw to get ahead, Thornscar shook her thoughts out of her head, like freeing her pelt of moss. Her skills were not in tracking, but it was easy to pick up the now familiar scent of Crowpaw. Her apprentice made a good path through the woods, taking down a creature with ease. Thornscar puffed her chest out in pride. The lessons had stuck and Crowpaw had flourished in her own ways. Her kill was neat, no blood or fur to warn other creatures. Nodding, Thornscar continued to follow. Maybe next kill I'll interrupt her.
True to her word, Thornscar circled around, getting a visual on Crowpaw stalking her next bit of prey. Thornscar bunched up her muscles, waiting to time her leap when Crowpaw caught the prey. She didn't want to actually interrupt that part of the assessment. She watched with pride as Crowpaw dispatched this creature swiftly. Her tail swished, then she leapt out with a yowl. "I'm a hungry loner and you better give me that catch!" Her claws were sheathed, but her strength was still full force, aiming to bowl Crowpaw over. It would be benefical to train on defending your catch of course. -- Taxx, sorry for the wait bby <3

CROWPAWAPPRENTICE OF NIGHTCLANThere was no sign of Thornscar, but Crowpaw kept her mind on her task; her mentor had promised to be nearby in case she was needed, not to hover right on the apprentice's tail. And the night air was clear of any worrisome scents; there was no need to imagine danger where none existed. Quiet as a shadow, Crowpaw padded onward.
The flutter of wings caught her attention, and she spotted a thrush in a patch of moonlight, beak digging into the soft earth as it hunted its own prey, unaware of the she-cat watching it. By the time it did realize, it was too late. The apprentice's paws pinned it to the ground, and the squawk of alarm was quickly cut off as she killed it with a bite to the neck.
Thornscar's sudden appearance was startling, and she had crashed right into Crowpaw before the younger could do more than puff up in surprise. Knocked off her paws, Crowpaw squeaked, but barely a heartbeat more passed before she reacted; rolling with the impact, the younger shoved all four paws up into Thornscar's belly and tossed her away. Then, scrambling back to her feet, she bristled all over, ears back and tail lashing as she growled a threat, keeping her body between the other she-cat and the dead thrush.
"Come on and take it, then," she dared, body tense as she waited for the next move. She might have leaped, continued her assault before Thornscar could recover, but sometimes it was better to let the other make the first move- or to let the intruder make the smart choice and clear out, rather than push the confrontation further. Whatever Thornscar did, Crowpaw would counter, but not until her mentor had made her first move. williams watch me, i'll make a name for myself

Thornscar connected briefly with her apprentice, then she found herself flung free. Her training kept her on her paws, skidding gracefully a respectable distance away. A loner would not have been so lucky she knew, and smiled. It was a tactic she remembered teaching Crowpaw- get the cat as far away as possible as quickly as possible, then you can assess their threat level-, and to see it in action made her heart soar. The black she-cat growled a response, properly defending her prey as any Nightclan cat should. Thornscar countered with a hiss of her own, pacing the spot she landed as if she was thinking of charging. It would be a foolish decision, Crowpaw had grown into her frame at an alarming rate. She was tough, Thornscar's training leaving no outs for weakness to show. Even the most starved loner would hestitate, taking in the sight of his tough she-cat. Thornscar couldn't help but drop the facade and smile with pride. I have trained you well, you have grown into your own skills so well. Her smile said, before it dropped. "Feh," She snorted. "You're lucky this time, clan cat." Then she strode away, past Crowpaw to give her a flick of her tail on her cheek, then she was off into the woods. They both knew Crowpaw had one more piece of prey to catch, and Thornscar wasn't about to prevent her apprentice from catching it. -- Taxx

CROWPAWAPPRENTICE OF NIGHTCLANCrowpaw kept her battle-ready stance, watching as Thornscar paced, hissing in response to the challenge, but there was no retaliation. The older she-cat relaxed, a smile gracing her features for a moment, and Crowpaw's ears lifted in response, her eyes brightening. Her tail twitched at the statement, turning her body as Thornscar padded past, still tense and watchful just in case it was a trick, but she said nothing as her mentor disappeared into the shadows among the trees.
Then she loosened her muscles, lifted her chin and purred. A short skirmish, but perhaps Thornscar had seen the wisdom in not pushing a full fight; Crowpaw wasn't the short-legged, untrained apprentice she'd been at six moons. Time and hard training had lent her muscle and a size just a touch greater than Thornscar's own, and a mind honed to perfection in hunting and fighting. Tail swishing behind, Crowpaw swiftly buried the thrush under a pile of pine needles and leaves and carried on.
Her last catch was of two lizards; one she pounced on, the other a luckier catch as it panicked and tried to scurry past her in its search for safety. She killed both, paused a moment, and then headed back to where she'd hidden the thrush, settling down and waiting for her mentor to appear once more. williams watch me, i'll make a name for myself
