Sparrowpaw ducked into the tunnel that housed the apprentices' den, her eyes already adjusted to the darkness. In her mouth, she held a small bundle of moss. She glanced this way and that, noticing no other apprentices right away. Being a new apprentice, the she-cat had slept on the floor of the apprentices' den for a couple days. It was not uncomfortable, but she did miss the softness of the nursery. Not that she wanted to go back to living there, no, of course not! She was an apprentice! The comfort of the nursery was for kits now, and those days were behind her. However, she thought that maybe she could make herself a little nest in her new den so that she could rest without tossing and turning. After all, it seemed that several other apprentices were doing the same thing. There were several simple nests made of pine needles and moss already in the den.

She made her way to the back of the den near the wall, and set down her moss ball. Carefully, she began to use her nose and paws to flatten out the ball, eventually standing on top of it and padding it down with her feet. She circled the spot once, twice, three times and then lied down, her paws tucked neatly underneath her. She squirmed a little bit, trying to get comfortable, but there was some kind of lump that was making it difficult. She stood back up, and turned to face the flat moss ball she had made, searching for the source of the lump. "Maybe I just need to add some pine needles or something", she pondered.

At that moment, something burst from the moss, right at her tabby face. She shrieked and slid backwards, scurrying away from whatever had surprised her. Her fur stood on end as she got a better look at the culprit. She felt her face warm with embarrassment as she spotted the pale brown and green creature. The idle, blank stare of the grasshopper's black eyes only made her feel worse at getting spooked by such a pathetic little insect. She wrinkled her face and leapt at the bug, her claws scraping the dirt and stone floor. It easily jumped out of the way. She whipped around and swatted at it feebly, almost falling down from the momentum. It hopped again, using it's wings to escape her. She glared at its stupid little body as it exited the den. The tabby she-cat turned to look back at her nest, and a deep sigh turned into a gasp. She had ruined not only her own but two other nests with her clumsy footwork and desperate escape strategy. They were absolutely destroyed. She bounded towards one, and began the trivial task of pawing nests back together, despite knowing full well that it would never be truly the same when she was using the now shredded moss scraps and broken pine needles. "Oh no, no, no no!" She muttered to herself as she worked desperately. She just hoped no one had seen her fail so badly.

The shriek that sounded from the apprentices' den echoed nicely in the cavern NightClan called home and several cats were looking around in alarm. Mousepaw was already heading toward the den to find her nest and get a nice nap in since she'd already gone on patrol and had a hunting lesson with Coalmask. All eyes seemed to settle on her, since she was closest to the source of the noise, and she snorted in annoyance, waving her tail dismissively, “It was probably just a prank. If you hear another shriek I was wrong.”

She didn't want a bunch of cats flooding into the apprentices' den to see what the matter was when she was intent on having her nap already. With the twitch of an ear, she noted the grasshopper that hopped by as she entered the den, suddenly sure that had something to do with the earlier shriek. The sight that greeted her did not give her hope for her plans of napping. Sparrowpaw was standing in the middle of quite a mess and hastily trying to pat scattered moss back together. It took her a moment, but then she realized the younger she-cat was standing right where her nest used to be.

Pelt bristling, she stepped forward, stiff legged, “What did you do to my nest you parasite? I already patrolled AND hunted tonight and I was JUST coming in for a nap! What have YOU done tonight, other than destroy nests?” Her tail lashed behind her once as she came to a stop a step away from Sparrowpaw and surveyed the mess that was the remains of her nest. “Now I'm going to have to completely remake it. Stop that,” she ordered the younger she-cat to quit trying to put it all back together, “It's ruined, you're just wasting time. Just gather this all up and get rid of it. And then you can help me put mine back together with fresh moss.” She glared pointedly, tail twitching in annoyance.
