It was not the best day for changing out the bedding in all the dens. Though Stoneclan's camp was protected from the winds, the walls did not stop the howling from reaching every nook and cranny of everyone's ears. But Sorrelpaw was not about to complain about that. Especially as she was working with a much younger apprentice. Amber eyes glanced over to Sootpaw, the she-cat appeared much cheerier about the task. Her own paws felt heavy today, battle wound acting up to give her a soft limp to her step. I must've slept wrong. She thought, bundling up the last of the old moss from the elder's den. At least I know it'll go away when we move around more.
Pile collected, Sorrelpaw flicked her tail to get Sootpaw's attention. "Do you know where to get the best moss for the elders?" She asked. The question was genuinely curious, and a small show of her age. Soon the other clans would know she had been held back for an injury- if Hawkstar let her go to this gathering- but it was well-known to her clanmates that she was the oldest apprentice by almost a full cycle of seasons. This age set her apart which wasn't always wanted, but helped in situations like this, when the small yet important tasks around camp needed to be completed. "With all this wind, I know they'll appreciate the best stuff to make them feel comfortable."

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw had been assigned to clean and change the bedding in each den, alongside Sorrelpaw. Sootpaw didn't know her that well, only that she was a lot older than the rest of the apprentices, and well... she'd been held back. But it was not Sootpaw's business, so she'd kept away from.. well... the apprentice den's rumour mill, as best she could. If Sorrelpaw wanted to discuss it with her, she'd happily listen. Sootpaw even hoped that the two of them could come to be friends.
She needed a female friend who was around her own age.
"Do you know where to get the best moss for the elders? With all this wind, I know they'll appreciate the best stuff to make them feel comfortable."
Sootpaw purred to herself. It so happened that she did know the best place, she had been spending a lot more time with the elders than most apprentices normally would. She enjoyed spending time with the elders. She looked Sorrelpaw over for a few moments, considering. Sizing Sorrelpaw up. Could she trust her with her secret that (she assumed) few cats knew?
"I do know the best place. Come, I'll show you. It... it's nice to finally work alongside you... until now it seemed that we were being kept apart?"
Sootpaw fell silent, afraid she had overstepped the mark. She didn't want to make a bad impression.
Flicking her tail, she headed toward Hawkstar's den. There was a little area behind it that was perfect for finding soft moss. She was sure there'd be more than enough there to serve Fallenleaf's needs. She would (hopefully, with Sorrelpaw's help) make a nest fit for a queen.

"I do know the best place. Come, I'll show you. "
The older apprentice honestly wasn't expecting such a confident answer, nor the look beforehand of careful scrutiny. I need to pay more attention to my younger clanmates, Sorrelpaw thought with a small smile, recognizing that even her friend Viperpaw had habits she wasn't aware of till she paid attention. As they headed out, Sootpaw in the lead, the she-cat continued. "It... it's nice to finally work alongside you... until now it seemed that we were being kept apart?"
"Really?" Sorrelpaw thought back, then frowned with understanding. "Ah, I think it was for my safety, uh, leg injuries take time to heal." It was weird to talk about her own injury without the details, but it wasn't something she particularly wanted to share. The clan had talked, she was sure of it. "It's nice to work with you too though, clanmates should work together." She replied before her thoughts could run away. It was nice to work with other apprentices. Not be alone, waiting for her leg to be usable again.

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw lead the way slowly to the moss-place behind Hawkstar's den. She kept looking over her shoulder at Sorrelpaw, wanting to ensure the older cat could keep up. Noticing her soft limp, she slowed her pace down slightly to match the other cat. It was... it was nice, walking this slowly. It enabled her to properly look at what was around her, get a proper idea of the nature of her surroundings.
A couple of warriors flitted past, just returning from a patrol. Sootpaw purred a hello, then stayed still until she was sure the two had returned to their den.
She waited for Sorrelpaw to catch up, to offer an explanation of why her rump was touching the floor when they were on a mission (of sorts).
"As far as I'm aware, not many cats know about where I'm about to take you. I'm assuming that if they did, they'd want to keep the knowledge to themselves, so that they could have all the best moss to line only their nests... I don't even have any of this moss in my nest. The elders are that special to me."
Sootpaw scoffed to herself. This was not how the elders, in particular her beloved Fallenleaf, should be treated. They should be treated with respect. Reverence, even. They should not be slighted by the warriors.
When I'm a warrior, I'm going to make sure any apprentices I am allocated will know that the elders are one of the most important members of the Clan. I swear it by StarClan.
She looked around to make sure there was nobody else in earshot, before turning to Sorrelpaw and whispering quietly "It's in a little nook, just behind Hawkstar's den. I know it's really nothing special, in the grand scheme of life... but I'm trusting you to be the honourable cat I hope you are."
334, williams This area is like Sootpaw's secret space where she goes to relax lol ✣

There was gratefulness always, when someone matched her pace. At first it had been frustrating. Sorrelpaw didn’t want others to slow down when she should’ve been catching up. But soon she realized it was nice to walk slower. The warrior life was so fast, and Sorrelpaw imagined this is what it felt like to be an elder, allowed to relax after giving what they could to their clan. The cats could enjoy their surroundings more. However, they were doing an important task, and the quicker they went, the sooner they could ignore the wind and rest in some nice fresh bedding. When they didn’t head towards the typical stashes, Sorrelpaw found her curiosity growing. Ears pricked in curiosity of why Sootpaw was so skittish to share what was in the end just moss, the older apprentice watched with interest, yet played along.
"As far as I'm aware, not many cats know about where I'm about to take you. I'm assuming that if they did, they'd want to keep the knowledge to themselves, so that they could have all the best moss to line only their nests... I don't even have any of this moss in my nest. The elders are that special to me." Brows raised, Sorrelpaw replied with a simple, “Ah.” unsure how to respond to a secret stash of really soft moss. Then the dark apprentice leaned in. "It's in a little nook, just behind Hawkstar's den. I know it's really nothing special, in the grand scheme of life... but I'm trusting you to be the honourable cat I hope you are."
“It is special to you, Sootpaw,” She stated, ears monitoring for other cats now. The change shifted her posture, a young cat willing to defend a secret that she had been entrusted with. “And that is important to respect.” With a teasing smile, she nudged Sootpaw with her own shoulder. “You said elders, like you care about them all, but is there someone in particular you’ve been treating with extra love?”

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw felt abashed for a second. She knew she was acting condescendingly to the much older apprentice, but she hoped that Sorrelpaw didn't mind. Sorrelpaw's acceptance of her secret, and her willingness to help her keep it, made Sootpaw's heart soar. She's so nice! I hope I can be her friend... Maybe we could go and see Fallenleaf together? She'd be so proud that i've made a friend my own age.
Lost in her thoughts for a heartbeat, she caught only the tail-end of Sorrelpaw's reply: "...is there someone in particular you've been treating with extra love?" She burst into a loud, strong purr. How to begin describing Fallenleaf?
Her reply was instantaneous, and without hesitation.
"Fallenleaf. She's wonderful. She's so kind and so pretty even though she's old but don't tell her I said that! And and she knows so much about so many subjects, when talking to her I learn more than Petalrain could ever teach me, not just about hunting and fighting but about the warrior code and the clans of old and... and StormClan."
Here she fell silent, a frown crossing her features.
Sootpaw reached 'her' place well, mine and Sorrelpaw's now she purred to herself, and couldn't resist the urge to roll in the feather-soft moss as if she was a kit again. She got up eventually, rolling her body into a sit, a piece of moss hanging from her ears like some kind of scarf.
Realising, she purred to herself, thinking what a great story it would be to tell to Kestrelpaw when he returned from his trip.

And and she knows so much about so many subjects, when talking to her I learn more than Petalrain could ever teach me, not just about hunting and fighting but about the warrior code and the clans of old and... and StormClan."
Sorrelpaw listened with interest, a smile ghosting back onto her face. It was a genuine expression. Sootpaw was so excited about this old she-cat, but it was entirely out of love. What was it like to love someone that deeply? Sorrelpaw could almost compare it to her love for her father, but she felt like it didn't exactly line up. There was something deeper between this young apprentice and her elder friend. Stormclan? Sorrelpaw thought, stretching her memory back to when she had heard that name before. It was a faint memory, something possibly Frozenrain had said. It held a negative connotation among the older cats, something to be whispered about rather than shared.
She was still thinking about it when Sootpaw leapt forward, the super soft moss in front of the pair. The younger apprentice rolled in the patch, her purr of pleasure loud and clear. Reaching out a tentative paw, Sorrelpaw lowered her front half down to feel what was so special. It was soft, her eyes widened, her own chatter of happiness bubbling forth.
The tabby apprentice coughed, sitting back up right as Sootpaw had gotten back up, little bits of moss stuck to her pelt. Sorrelpaw laughed, brushing away the closest pieces. "Let's get this back to Fallenleaf, without looking like we got into a fight with the moss."

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 11 Moons, She-Cat "Let's get this back to Fallenleaf, without looking like we got into a fight with the moss." Sootpaw's purr didn't stop. She was with a new friend, and they were going to she her best friend in the Clan, the older she-cat that she loved with all her heart. She couldn't wait for Kestrelpaw to get back so that she could tell him that she'd made a new friend. He'd be so proud.
Sootpaw smiled to herself at the thought of Kestrelpaw. He'd been in her thoughts a lot recently. She was missing him terribly while he was away on his trip. She hoped he was doing ok. Not having too much fun... it would break her heart if he never came back.
"Let's. Come on!"
Gathering as much as she could comfortably take, she rolled the moss into a tight ball, curling one paw around it (she could, somewhat, walk on three paws) to stop it from getting overly dirty on the ground between their spot and the elder's den. With a nod to Sorrelpaw, she began to slowly make her way to Fallenleaf's den.
