Gullswoop left the nursery with Lotuswhisker's words still ringing in his ear. The tom had been given a stern talking to about his brother and how Crowblaze's words were affecting his kits, Swankit to be specific. Flicking his long tail the tabby followed his nose to find his elder brother just reentering the camp. Taking a deep breath and mustering all the courage he had left in him, Gullswoop head in the direction of his brother. "Crowblaze, I need to talk to you about Swankit." Gullswoop meowed with a lack of greeting to his sibling. Not waiting for a reply right away, the green-eyed tom pointed to a nice spot near the warrior's den with his tail and headed in the direction. The tom fully expected his brother to follow after him without complaint. 

It didn't occur to Gullswoop until that moment that he felt a shift in dynamic. Fatherhood had changed Gullswoop for the better. While he remained fun and lively he had a serious tone in his voice and a sense of responsibility. First to the safety and well-being of his kits and second to his relationship with Lotuswhisker, the she-cat who still hung on every fiber in his heart. 

"Lotuswhisker told me about what you've been telling Swankit about Swanfeather and I'd it to stop," He blurted out once Crowblaze joined him, a feeling of awkwardness washing over him. Never in his life had he thought he'd be talking to his older brother like a delinquent apprentice.

"Crowblaze, I need to talk to you about Swankit."

The dark tabby dismissed Squirrelpaw with a few curt words and a flicking tail. Before he could press his younger brother for more information, Gullswoop was leading them to an out-of-the-way area beside the warriors den.

What is this about? Impatient as well as curious, Crowblaze's burning-orange eyes bored into Gullswoop's green, and then his silver-furred brother finally blurted it out. Maybe to the surprise of anyone nearby, Crowblaze didn't snort or roll his eyes. Instead, he chuckled.

The sound was sardonic and not even remotely remorseful. "I'm not telling her anything she won't already find out." Crowblaze's tail, long-furred and with rings of black over top a dark blackish-gray base coat, flicked a few times behind him. "Swanfeather doesn't deserve my trust, or anyone else's. You know how she feels about mixed-blood cats." Obviously Gullswoop wouldn't have forgotten that - especially when his own kits were not pure RainClan either.

With StoneClan blood on their father's side and NightClan blood on Lotuswhisker's, Swankit, Owlkit and Falconkit were three examples of how 'impure blood' was ruining the Clan. That argument may have fizzled out of RainClan, but as long as Swanfeather was here, there was a chance it could come back.

It took every ounce of control in Gullswoop not to frown at his elder brother He had to admit .to himself that Crowblaze had a point, he also had to stand for his kit's welfare. He didn't need them knowing about the darkness of RainClan's past. The last thing he wanted was for them to feel like outsiders. So when Crowblaze brought up mixed-blood cats, Gullswoop let slip a growl.

The sound was short but noticeable and Gullswoop made the choice not to apologize. Instead, he opened his mouth to reprimand his brother to the full extent he could.

"I get it, you don't like Swanfeather but Swankit was hurt and almost refused to get help. Do you have the knowledge base to tend to sick cats? I doubt it. So, for the time being, we have to deal with who we have and right now we have Swanfeather. Gullswoop told him, a clear sharpness to his voice. "In addition to that, I don't want my kits growing up with this blood-purity fox-dung! They were born in RainClan so they are RainClan cats as far as Lotuswhisker and I are concerned. We can't live our lives around who has more or less then someone else," Gullswoop finished with a harsh flick of his tail. "If you can't put aside your issues when around my kits. YOUR nieces and nephew then I'm sorry but you can't be around them," Gullswoop told him, his voice dropping down a little now that his anger had subsided but still the edge remained.

Crowblaze felt the harsh sting of his brother's words like angry hornets, aiming for any spots where the fur was thinnest. Orange eyes narrowed; Gullswoop wouldn't let him see those kits? Agitation flared up in wake of the reprimand. "My issues? You're kidding yourself if you think the Clan's just gotten over the 'blood-purity fox-dung'."

You're a fool. Did they really expect to just raise their kits as if nothing had happened? As if their father hadn't been murdered, because of Swanfeather's ideology? He stared hard at the tall silver tom, orange eyes tracing the three violent scars running over one of Gullswoop's bright green eyes. "Swanfeather can't be trusted. Kits are easy targets. Tell them whatever you want, Gullswoop, but sooner or later they're going to find out - and decide for themselves who to trust."

The threat of being cut off from his family was one of the few that would work on a cat like Crowblaze. His social ties that were not blood-related were so few, he could count them on one paw; Squirrelpaw, Piketooth, and Owlflight. The rest was family. At the end of the day, family was all that mattered. Crowblaze squared his shoulders, baring his teeth as he gave his pelt a full shake, loosening the belligerence that was as inherent to him as his tabby markings.

Crowblaze nodded curtly. Fine. He would keep his opinions for himself. For now.
"Swankit's alright?" Crowblaze mewed, concern hiding under the gruffness.

His brother had a point, the time would come for his kits to figure out the truth, but Gullswoop wanted them to remain as innocent as possible. That would be taken away if Crowblaze didn't keep his hatred to himself, something the younger father was going to be strict on. His kits came first now.

The awkward silence that grew between the two brothers was broken when Crowblaze showed on concern for Swankit. "So far she is okay. I think she will be a little more careful walking around. Dewpaw and help and so was Swanfeather, there doesn't seem to be any damage to her paw," Gullswoop explained, relaxing slightly when it came to his unique daughter.

"Owlkit and her are always going off on their own to try and escape the camp, hopefully, with his little injury she'll realize the world outside the camp isn't safe for young kits." Gullswoop added before looking at his brother, ears titled down and his head dipping slightly.

"I'm sorry I growled...I just want them to be an innocent for as long as possible," He added trying to mend things, their relationship wasn't the strongest and Gullswoop didn't want this hurting it.

It was typical kit troubles - going off on their own, sticking their noses (or paws) in places it doesn't belong. Crowblaze would have snorted, partially amused, if a thought hadn't cut across his mind at that moment. What if Swankit and Owlkit started to get curious about StoneClan? What if they tried to copy Hawkfall's choice? Crowblaze's stomach clenched, tightening into an angry fist.

No.

Maybe Gullswoop was right. Maybe if they kept their innocence a little longer, they wouldn't be so aware of RainClan's ugly history. And it wouldn't drive them away from the Clan they belonged in. Crowblaze had fallen into a moody silence, and flicked an ear to show he'd been listening after all. "You're their father. You should protect them." Crowblaze caught his younger brother's gaze. "If that means keeping them innocent, then that means keeping them innocent." If they were his kits... Well, they would know the truth about their Clan. And they would know who to avoid, and who could be counted on for support and guidance.

But these weren't his kits. So he would back off, while still keeping an eye on them. A dark guardian if nothing else. He did not want Gullswoop or Lotuswhisker to put an end to his budding relationship with little Swankit. She was an oddity, but he liked that about her. Her strangeness and her intelligence were refreshing. Hawkfall had been a little strange too... Staring into StoneClan's territory as if he could see things the rest of them could not.

Crowblaze's tail lashed, as though to slice through that negative thought-trail. Enough about that. There were parts of the past worth remembering, and that wasn't one of them.

"Are we done?" His words were not meant to be deliberately rude; this was just his way. Brusque when dealing with others, and not one to stand around for idle chatter. However, if Gullswoop had more he wanted to say, Crowblaze would listen.

Gullswoop what his brother said with a slow nod. He didn't mean to be rude or harsh but his little bundles needed all the protection he could provide. Perhaps if Crowblaze ever had his own kits he'd realize that too, but Gullswoop kept that thought to himself. It wasn't his place to push his brother things would happen at their own place.

The silence grew between them for a moment too long and Gullswoop considered breaking it, but Crowblaze did first. Dipping his head as a farewell, Gullswoop stood up. He took no offense to his brother's phrasing. "Yeah we are done. Tomorrow if you aren't too busy, try and visit Swankit. She looks up to you and I'm sure it would be helpful to hear it from someone else to be careful with her paws," Gullswoop meowed before leaving his brother with a gentle nudge to his cheek, a brotherly love sort of gesture.

As the silver tabby headed away from his he paused long enough to look back over his shoulder. Concern was clear in his handsome green eyes but he didn't utter a thing. Instead, he headed right for the nursery and to the company of his family.
