LIONSTAR
leader of treeclan
Blinded by the light of a new sun
"Let cats young and old gather at the Ancient Stump for a Clan meeting!"
Lionstar's bold call rose above the throng of cats just starting their morning. The dawn patrol had come and gone; he had specifically waited for Lichenfrost to return before beginning the ceremony. This recent... drama involving Frost and the three cats he'd always believed to be his half-siblings, had caused him to look at them all with fresh eyes. Lichenfrost had often gone overlooked; a mistake on his part. Intentional? He believed it wasn't, but if Lionstar was honest with himself, her hostility and their parents'... mistakes, had put her in a perpetually bad light.
This wasn't going to heal the rift overnight, but it was a first step.
"I know we and the forest are on the mend from the wildfire," he began once enough cats had gathered. "the timing is not ideal. Disasters never are. But this will not stop TreeClan from growing in size and strength, or stop us protecting our borders and feeding the queens and elders." The golden tom's matching gaze settled upon the parents of Almondkit and Oak-kit, ushering a gentle nod for them to be brought forward.
"I am pleased to announce that Almondkit and Oak-kit are ready to reach the next stage of Clan life. Almondkit, Oak-kit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior names, you will be known as Almondpaw and Oakpaw. Oakpaw, your mentor will be Firesong. Almondpaw, your mentor will be Lichenfrost. I trust that they will pass down all they know on to you."
He had trained Firesong himself, and watched the ginger feline go from an excitable, spirited apprentice, into an honorable warrior of the Clan they called home. He watched her eyes grow round with surprise, and he smiled, maintaining the atmosphere while still managing to cast a paternal warmth on the cats before him.
"Firesong, you are ready to take on an apprentice. I have trained you to the best of my ability, and you have proven yourself to be driven and optimistic, even in the most dire circumstances. You will be the mentor of Oakpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Oakpaw."
His gaze came to rest upon Lichenfrost, and he gave the smallest of nods, as if to confirm that he had indeed chosen correctly. "Lichenfrost, you have long been ready to take on an apprentice. You have shown yourself to be resilient and dedicated when the Clan needed it most. You will be the mentor of Almondpaw, and I trust you to pass on all you know to Almondpaw."
With that, the cheering could begin. He could see Appleshade and Sprucefur already rising from their spots to congratulate their littermate.
