RainClan - Senior Warrior - Tom - 45 Moons Mud. Adderstrike thought indignantly. Sloppy, sticky, foul, mucky mud. The brown tabby felt sludge fill the gaps between his toes and suck at his legs despite his careful footfalls. The tom looked around him, seeing puddles littering the ground like leaves in full blown leaffall, though they were quite the opposite of a dry crunch when walked through. The earth had a saturated hue to it after the storm, and with everything so rich in color, Adderstrike began to realize how gaudy spring really was. The flowers were blooming and vibrant in color, the grass was an exuberant green, and the undergrowth was crawling from trunk to trunk like a herd of raucous squirrels. Spring has always been the showy season, traipsing around with all its garish glitz. Adderstrike mused to himself, glancing over his shoulder at the Rainclan patrol, all the cats showered in the soft glow of evening light. The day had been hot, and although the spring foliage looked welcoming walking out of camp, the heat and intensity of the sun gave Rainclan's landscape such a vivid radiance that Adderstrike had developed a splitting headache early on. Now, the day was close to its end, and he wanted nothing more than to eat and head to the warriors den for a short nap before his midnight ventures, when the temperature and light were more to his liking. Unless, of course, it was too windy or rainy.
The brown tabby tom continued forward, carelessly trudging through puddles and mud alike; it was no use trying to keep his legs dry at this point. The sun had scorched the rain and dew from the underbrush by the day's end, as well as his fur. Adderstrike's pelt burned a scintillating amber, his tabby stripes looking faintly chocolate in the evening light. The senior warrior was well aware of the scents on the breeze, as well as the sounds and sights around him, though there was a certain aloofness in his unique gait and rigid posture that defined his existence. Ever since the death of his family, the tom has been all but listless in his motives, whether it be to fulfill either duty or desire. Patrolling, although categorized as duty for all warriors of the clan, was one of the more enticing assignments. Meeting cats from other clans was always a test, sometimes both physically and mentally. So far, this patrol had been quite dull and insipid. He thought despondently. At least...
"We are almost done." He breathed, pushing forward along the border, almost hastily.
Liberty for wolves is death to the lambs.

Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁Text " Speech" Thoughts
It had been one of those rare days where the cream and brown female had emerged from the nursery, though not a nursing mother since her only kit Wrenpaw had been made an apprentice Moonshine had remained a queen, loving the soft soothing scent of the warm space and the gentle coo of the mother's as they called their kits. Added to that , Moonshine was never the best fighter, As an apprentice she struggled with that aspect and though Ashfoot has been such a patient teacher. The young she-cat had only just managed to pass the fighting aspect to earn her warrior name.
Not that it matter for and soon after he warrior ceremony, she and Ashfoot had mated and begun a family and the love of being a mother had prevented her from leaving the warm comfort that the nursery bought. Today however, had been a strange one. Ashfoot had so politely asked his mate to do his patrol while he dealt with something off in a much nicer part of the territory and while Moonshine had protested, eventually she agreed, she could never say no to him for long.
Alas she was stuck with the patrol, and was clearly not enjoying herself, The brown tabby that called himself Adderstrike was pushing ahead and his words echoed in Moonshine's ears. The sweet relief of the patrol being finished. " For one of my first patrols, that was uneventful" The sweet voice spoke lightly, sweetly for she would never be rude to others, after all being a queen meant that she did not have to go on patrols.

The pale furred she-cat trudged through the mud at the back of the group, struggling every now and again to haul one of her paws free of the sticky mud. Adderstrike had taken the lead, being the most senior warrior of the patrol. Although Minnowsplash typically took the middle positions in these situations, she'd opted to stay at the back this time. Their third patrol member was Moonshine, a she-cat who spent most of her time in the nursery nowadays. She didn't doubt the slightly older she-cat's ability to be a warrior, not in the slightest. Minnowsplash just... Felt it was right.
Moonshine... Has a family, a kit of her own. I-If something were to happen... It's better that she... M-Make it out with her life. It was a grim train of thought, true, and yet... It seemed oddly fitting. Bounding out of a particularly heavy bought of muck, Minnowsplash caught up to the two other members just in time to hear the minimalist exchange between them. Her ears pricked in quiet curiosity, off-green eyes shifting from Adderstrike to Moonshine as the she-cat's gentle voice replaced the tom's harder one. Her lush tail, weighed down as it was by stubborn bits of mud, flicked thoughtfully behind her.
Clearing her throat just so, Razorstar's daughter offered her own opinion on the matter. "Sometimes... An uneventful patrol is... A w-welcome gift, is it not? Personally, I would rather not find myself, er... Whisker to whisker with an enemy patrol. Though I suppose seeing some prey would have made for a... Welcome distraction from the monotone nature of the patrol..." She laughed almost nervously, shifting from paw to paw before letting her gaze fall back to her paws. Thoughts unrelated to the patrol still plagued her mind, specifically a certain white furred tom who'd grown ever more distant these last few moons. |

RainClan - Senior Warrior - Tom - 45 Moons "For one of my first patrols, that was uneventful."
Moonshine's soft, velvety voice drew Adderstrike's attention from the wet, earthy slop engulfing each of his legs, pawstep after pawstep. He didn't expect a response to his comment, though before he could spit out a pessimistic retort, he heard Minnowsplash pipe up behind him and passed the youngest member of the patrol an impassive glance.
"Sometimes... An uneventful patrol is... A w-welcome gift, is it not? Personally, I would rather not find myself, er... Whisker to whisker with an enemy patrol. Though I suppose seeing some prey would have made for a... Welcome distraction from the monotone nature of the patrol..."
"You have a point." Adderstrike grunted tactlessly. "Prey would be nice right about now."
The surly and rude tom dismissed both comments, lumbering onward. The sun had fallen below the horizon, leaving streaks of hot red blazing across the sky. The air began to cool and the fresh scents of night grew more potent by the minute, while the hum of peepers, frogs, and chirping crickets began to resound nearest to the waterways. Birdbrained nightlife. Can't keep quiet, can they? He griped to himself, clenching his jaws. Today isn't my brightest day, is it? Adderstrike had only taken a few paces before emitting a comment in between a grumble and a sigh, as if trying to compensate for his latest churlish remark and iniquitous behavior towards his fellow clanmates in the latter parts of the patrol. I am just tired. They can understand. They are probably tired too. He concluded defensively.
"Who else is ready for a filling meal and a nice nap?"
Adderstrike's dim, yellow-green gaze met those of both she-cats as the small patrol reached the end of the border.
"Because we are headed back to camp."
The grumpy tabby tom let a faint smile overcome his usual grim mask, and a spark of satisfaction lit up his gaze.
Job well done. Adderstrike thought, though perhaps just a little too soon.
Liberty for wolves is death to the lambs.

Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁Text "Speech" ThoughtsMoonshine's bright blue eyes glanced back and the younger warrior when Minnowsplash spoke, seemingly nervous which concerned the Queen, as a result she slowed down and allowed her tail to brush against the other she-cat as a sign of compassion and reassurance.
The younger female's comment on prey seemed to hold more value to the male among them as Adderstrike mentioned that they were nearly back to camp. The grumpy male was not making for the most exciting company. Moonshine assumed that the male was simply tired, it was getting late and the queen would have to be careful to not wake the mother's and kit's when she returned to her place in the nursery.
" Indeed some prey would be nice as well as a long nap, especially you Adderstrike, you seem especially unimpressed with tonight" Her sweet voice, held a little bit of scolding within it's musical depths and while she was not mad at the male, she would let him know that his short temper was not to be tolerated around her. Self proclaimed mother of the clan, Moonshine was ever the forgiving she-cat and when Adderstrike offered a smile she beamed back at him, bright blue eyes shining with compassion and walmth.

A gentle touch of a tail to her flank alerted her to Moonshine's presence next to her. Minnowsplash smiled back kindly, thankful for the queen's attempt at comfort. The young warrioress flinched, however, as Adderstrike spoke up, somehow feeling as though she'd said something she wasn't supposed to. Adderstrike was simply... A difficult tom to get along with, and Minnowsplash was not the most sociable of she-cats. Though what she'd said had been perfectly reasonable conversation, she still thought his bad mood was somehow connected to something she had done. Ah, the never-ceasing and plaguing thoughts of average-ness and inadequacy.
She relaxed fractionally as the big tom seemed to find something else to focus on, mentioning the beginnings of a return trip back to camp. Her muzzle bobbed eagerly in a soft nod of agreement, only for the motion to be cut short and her heart to skip a beat as Moonshine shot back a comment on Adderstrike's mood. Not being the type of cat to have the confidence to say something of that nature, Minnowsplash found herself holding her breath, as though the very act of breathing might cause the potentially precarious nature of this interaction to devolve into an all-out brawl.
Before the fawn-colored RainClan warrioress had anymore time to think of how this situation could possibly go wrong, her left hind paw set down in a particularly soft patch of mud, the she-cat sinking into it up to her haunch with a startled sound. Perched awkwardly in a crouched position due to the uneven surface, her ears flattened in embarrassment as she struggled to pull herself out of the mud. But it was persistent, holding fast to her longer fur and filling in whatever gap it could, despite Minnowsplash's attempts to wriggle free. With a defeated sound, she muttered to herself. "I really sh-should watch where I w-walk..."
She'd certainly not seen that coming.

RainClan - Senior Warrior - Tom - 45 Moons Adderstrike didn't even realize what had happened until he heard quiet mumbling a few paces behind him. The tabby turned to see Minnowsplash buried in mud to her haunches with the fur around her flanks spiked in brown. Congratulations, birdbrain, you jinxed yourself into a bit of a tizzy here. He thought, irritated mostly with himself above anyone. Sure, the she-cat could have been more careful where she had put her feet, but he had been tromping through mud all day. It could have happened to any one of them. Thank Starclan it wasn't me. The grumpy tabby thought to himself, turning back and trotting over to the trapped and subdued cat. The steadfast mud held onto her hind legs firmly, thwarting the she-cat from escape. He could tell that Minnowsplash probably wouldn't have been able to get out alone, just by watching her attempts at freedom. Okay, here goes. He mused. He began setting his paws down around where Minnowsplash had become stuck, mapping where the edge of the sinkhole. First, he glanced at the sunken cat, then Moonshine.
"Alright." He sighed.
The tom leaned forward and grabbed Minnowsplash by the scruff, pulling steadily, trying not to hurt her. Adderstrike thought he felt the mud give to pressure.

Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁Text "Speech" ThoughtsMoonshine was a little surprised when Minnowsplash misjudged a step and landed in a soft patch of mud, sinking up to her haunches in the disgusting sticky substance. Adderstrike reached a lot quicker than Moonshine did, moving to pull the young warriors scruff while Moonshine took a more passive roll and gently cramped her teeth around Minnowsplash's leg.
Trying not to hurt the other female, Moonshine tugged gently, hoping the the mud might start to give way with the combinned efforts of both Adderstike and herself. The slightly older female, made a plan to clean up Minnowsplash once the pair had managed to get her free.
'I stand corrected, this patrol is more eventful than I thought'. She mused to herself, giving a reassuring purr to the fawn coloured she-cat. Adderstrike was proving to be more than just the grumpy tom, he portrayed himself as and Moonshine felt a rush of guilt as she looked over at him briefly, she had judged to quickly and would have to apologise later.

The slim, fawn colored she-cat allowed herself to go limp as Adderstrike's mouth closed around her scruff. It was a little embarrassing, Minnowsplash feeling like a kit scolded by a father, but... She saw no other way of freeing herself. And so she let it happen, and did her part to help by not writhing. Moonshine appeared at her side, also doing her part to lift and pull Minnowsplash free of the strange imprisonment. Despite the stubbornness of the mud, Minnowsplash could feel it begin to release beneath their unrelenting efforts. She held still a little longer, waiting until...
A cooling sensation washed over her haunch as it was freed from the mud and exposed to the surrounding air once more. Activating all the muscles required to pull her paw up toward her belly, she let out a relieved little squeak as the mud released her with a sucking sound. When Adderstrike set her down a safe distance from the remaining hole, she flattened her ears sheepishly and spared a glance up at the larger warrior. "It's... It's a bit sticky, I r-recommend you watch your s-step." She did her best to make it obvious she was telling a joke, but... She'd never been the best at being funny.
With mud dripping off of her long fawn fur, Minnowsplash fidgeted on her paws. "Thanks f-for... For g-getting me out of there Adderstrike. Y-You too Moonshine. I sh-should have been more careful, and... And I p-promise to watch out on the way home..." She trailed off, her off-green eyes very interested in the way her claws sunk into the softened earth beneath their paws. StarClan... She thought to herself almost pitifully. Why do I have to be such a mess... Congratulations Minnowsplash, you certainly sell the whole Razorstar's daughter thing... |
