Foxtrot padded confidently over the mossy ground, tail high in the air as he scented around him for mice. Newleaf was getting to a full running start all around him, with the last of the snow melting away into nothingness as the green foliage reclaimed its right to the land. His bright russet fur shone in the sunlight, lighting him up with a halo as he caught a fresh scent and paused with his mouth open to taste the smell.

Hellooooooo lunch!

He grinned, dropping down into a crouch as he crept over the ground, slipping over it quietly and quickly as he perked his ears up to the tell-tale scampering sounds of his quarry. Step by step, closer and closer-

Newleaf was a blessing, and it seemed that the mice had been hard at work preparing for the plentiful food that the season was about to bring, so Foxtrot had an unusually successful time out on the mossy ground, piling up a fair collection of young mice. With a purr rumbling in his chest, the tom let himself relax in the sun next to his buried prizes, melting onto the ground in a warm pool of cat.

Nothing could make this moment better

He purred to himself, feeling the sun warm him up like he had dreamed of during the Leafbare moons. At peace.

[Hellion]

Petalrain had uncurled from her nest and sniffed the moss. It was stale. Normally the apprentices would change it or at least gather the moss. However, it seem that they had forgotten or gotten busy. Petalrain didn't mind getting her own moss, she still felt like an apprentice despite being a warrior for almost an entire year.

Flicking her tail as she passed by a clanmate, Petalrain directed herself toward the moss meadow. Her pawsteps were light and easily covered the ground between the camp and the meadow. She arrived without too much delay and quickly noted a scent familiar to her. For a brief moment she thought about getting her moss for her nest, but the idea of spending time with Foxtrot was must more appealing.

Looking around until she spotted Foxtrot, seeming to be soaking up all the sun. With a teasing smile, Petalrain closed the distance between them and carefully teased her tail across his nose. She waited until he stirred before she spoke.

"Trying to become one with the sun?" She purred, eyes sparkling.

Petalrain approached from downwind, and Foxtrot was deeply sunk into his warm daydreams, so he only became aware of her a few seconds before her tail tickled his nose. Rather than be startled, Foxtrot let out a little mumble of happiness and flopped further backwards to lay down on his back, gazing up at the she-cat warmly.

"If only I could! But I doubt I would ever be able to become quite as radiant as you."

He purred, reaching his front paws to slowly and playfully bat at her, like a warm and sluggish stretch.

"The Newleaf sun suits you well. From down here you look like you have a halo around you. If I didn't quite have my wits about me I would have thought I was being visited by a glittering StarClan cat, pelt full of jewels."

He mewed, letting himself move back onto his side as he regarded her flirtatiously,

"Would a beautiful she-cat such as yourself feel so inclined as to share tongues in the warm sun with an admiring tom?"

He smiled, just a hint of suggestion in his voice.

Petalrain let a warm flush feel her cheeks at the sound of happiness that Foxtrot made. It had pride welling in her chest, she liked the attention of such a tom and wouldn't mind basking in it all Newleaf-long. She let a giggle escape her at his cheesy line about hr radiance. Petalrain didn't believe such a thing but couldn't help but let the ego boost fill her. It was nice to know that Foxtrot thought her radiant.

As he stretched toward her, she playfully batting at him. Her ears perked at the continued praise. She wasn't used to such and thing and willfully fell for his every line. Petalrain was enjoying the attention even if it was from a known flirt.

The offer of sharing tongues was met with a purr and nod from the pretty tabby she-cat. She moved to snuggle in close to the tom cat but remained slightly upright. Petalrain started with grooming his cheek and neck, allowing herself to purr loudly as she did so. She rarely shared tongues with any considering most everyone was busy hunting or training. It was nice to be able to spend the time with Foxtrot.

Foxtrot felt warmth blossoming in his chest as he smiled at Petalrain soppily, revelling in her positive and playful reactions to his flirtations. He half-closed his eyes happily as she settled down next to him, feeling the heat of the sun mingle with the heat of her fur beside his own thick red pelt.

What a wonderful day

He mused to himself, a purr rumbling deep in his throat as he felt Petalrain lean closer to him. Her tongue's brush against his neck and cheek was more relaxing than the entire day's events thus far, and Foxtrot felt himself all but melt, relaxing against her more than he'd realised he was capable of relaxing. With a full heart, the russet tom returned the grooming in the natural pauses of Petalrain's strokes, gently cleaning and massaging her head, shoulders, and around her ears.

The pair sat in a pleasant silence as they shared tongues, enjoying the heat of the sun and each other's company. Foxtrot could think of fewer times when he had been any happier.

"I don't think anything in this world could quite compare to an afternoon spent in your company."

He mewed simply, smiling at her happily.

The tabby she-cat let out her own purr shifted to be softer one. A sign of how content she was and gradually more relaxed. She showed her affection for him by taking great care to groom his pelt slowly. Petalrain had no reason to rush and the more time she took, the more time she got to spend with Foxtrot.

Her motives were entirely superficial. She liked the attention given to her by toms. Foxtrot just happened to be that tom. Affection was given to him because he returned it to her. The pauses in her own strokes gave him access to groom her and encouraged a louder purr from her.

As time went on and the sun got warmer on her fur, Petalrain couldn't help but yawn slightly. Her eyes were getting heavy. She often got sleepy when someone groomed her fur, this time was no different. The only thing keeping her awake were Foxtrot's words which made her eyes open to look at him.

"I have to agree, I'm great company," She purred with a flick of her tail as a sign of being playful. Tucking her head under his chin Petalrain nuzzled his neck for a moment. "I might fall asleep here in the comfort of you and the warm sun," She told him, ignoring the little voice in the back of her head reminding her that truly falling for such a tom would be reckless. It was okay to flirt and have fun, but she had to remain careful.
