Redscar had many duties that required his attention, each obviously having its own importance and a varying one at that. Some not in the know would assume troublesome apprentices were the responsibility of their mentors, not so however. Firestar wished for Redscar to be hands on and her link to the apprentices. Redscar thus found himself relaying key information on Lighteningclan's apprentices to its' leader. Wanting to relay only positive information as much as possible Redscar often found himself taking a paws on approach to correcting deficiencies before they became bothersome for Firestar, this had lead him to seek out Sunnypaw. Of all the problems Redscar had dealt with an aversion to snow was a new one, most cats disliked it but Sunnypaw was refusing to have anything to do with it. Having chosen the fairest day the clan had seen in a while Redscar entered the apprentices den to stage his intervention. "Sunnypaw, let's talk."

In the eye of a hurricane there is quiet
For just a moment a yellow sky

Sunnypaw was ashamed. He didn't understand his fear but he knew the prickle in his chest when ever he saw snow and panic that forced his heart to hammer. It was easy to assume that Sunnypaw's fear of snow was because of his mother's death and the storm that blew around them. But for the fear to manifest in blatant refusal to touch it, Sunnypaw knew he should ashamed.

Leafbare was by far the worst time for Sunnypaw. He had been asked by Mudpelt to go training but once he saw all the snow that had gathered he faked being sick, not something he was proud of. Sunnypaw had become decent at figuring out how to avoid the snow, even as going as far as to hide in the elder's den. Mudpelt, his mentor, was often busy hunting or tending to general needs of the Clan and Sunnypaw was grateful for it. His training wasn't priority which let him hide and avoid the snow like it was death itself.

Sunnypaw currently was curled up in the apprentice den. More snow had fallen and Sunnypaw groaned slightly he didn't want to go outside, but he was hungry. Tempted to ask Cloudypaw to bring him a meal, Sunnypaw heard his name and his ears perked up.

He recognized the voice of Redscar and dread filled him. However, he couldn't ignore Redscar's summons and slowly made his way toward the entrance of the apprentice den, head bowed slightly.

"Yes?" He asked still not stepping out of the den.

Even though Sunnpaw's attempt to avoid the snow entirely had been quite skillful under Redscar's watchful eye it was only a matter of time before his fears were discovered. Knowing that how he handled the situation was paramount Lightningclan's deputy attempted to tactfully question the apprentice about his situation. "Sunnypaw, I've noticed your training seems to be moving much slower lately. Is there something you want to talk about?" Obviously Redscar was not divulging what he had deduced in his very first question, it would be better for Sunnypaw to admit his deficiencies without another cat's insistence. Whilst waiting patiently for a reply Redscar focused on sending calming signals through his body language, the deputy was well aware that his presence alone could be unsettling. If this approach wasn't successful Redscar was prepared to be much more direct, however that all hitched on how cooperative Sunnypaw was in his next response.

Sunnypaw felt his ears tilt back when Redscar's question reached them. He wanted to be honest, explain to Redscar about his fear, but he wasn't sure if he could trust Redscar. Sunnypaw was all too aware of his loner-born status. He didn't know how Redscar would view him if he knew the truth of why his tranining wasn't moving forward. Conflicted and perhaps a little scared to confess, Sunnypaw dropped his gaze and shrugged.

Did Redscar expect to be able to help him? Sunnypaw was pretty sure his fear of the snow wasn't going away any time soon. The panic that filled him when ever he touched it was enough to make him feel sick. In all truth Sunnypaw would need to get over it, but he was scared to even start. For the first time in a very long time, Sunnypaw missed the comfort of the nursery and wished he was 3 moons old again.

"My training is slower because of Mudpelt being busy a lot," He told him. It wasn't a total lie but it wasn't the truth that Redscar was most likely looking for. As Sunnypaw waited for Redscar to reply, the young tom-cat keeping his eyes down and staring at the ground.

Redscar waited patiently for a reply from Sunnypaw, and as the apprentice shifted his gaze to his paws the deputy knew it wasn't going to be a good one. Without fail an excuse regarding Sunnypaw's mentor was given, this amused Redscar as he was in charge of assigning patrols and other such duties. Redscar was well aware that Mudpelt had been left plenty of time to see to his apprentices training, frankly he was more surprised that the situation hadn't be rectified before it was his turn to get involved. Searching for a calming tone Redscar replied, "We both know that isn't true Sunnypaw, perhaps you would like to try again?" The deputy ventured hoping he wouldn't be put through another round of the blame game. The situation was surely peculiar but that didn't dissuade Redscar from doing his duty and seeing to it Sunnypaw was out hunting again as soon as possible.
