Rowanberry
if you trust your rebel heart, ride into battle
A thick sorrel pelt rose and fell gently in time with the deep, even breaths of the sleeping she-cat. Her slumber was dreamless, and she barely shifted, content to remain asleep for much, much longer. That was, until she was stepped on. And not just an accidental trodden tail-tip. Rowanberry's eyes shot open and instantly narrowed into slits as she turned her head to look her former apprentice in the eye. The calico she-cat she had trained had stepped on her, and had the audacity to remain. Emberflower had her forepaws planted firmly against Rowanberry's shoulder, her hindquarters dangerously close to resting on her.
"Oh thank goodness you're awake!" Emberflower sighed dramatically and leaned over, draping herself over Rowanberry's still-curled form. A heartbeat passed before Emberflower brought her brown eyes to Rowanberry's face, a cheeky grin in place.
Rowanberry stared at her through slitted eyes for a moment. Then she twisted, flipping around and striking out with both forepaws at Emberflower's face. She rolled, pushing the younger cat out of her nest, rising and giving a half-hearted hiss.
Emberflower laughed and rolled away, batting at her with equally soft paws. "You know, you'd be a lot more fearsome if you didn't look like you just crawled out of your nest." Rowanberry aimed another swat at Emberflower's head, which the other easily ducked before darting out of the den, still giggling from her minor victory.
Rowanberry remained standing in her nest after Emberflower left, seriously considering going back to sleep. After a moment, she sighed and sat, chosing instead to smooth out her wild, sleep-tossed fur.
In the time it took her to get her long, thick fur thoroughly groomed, Rowanberry and properly woken and her mood had brightened considerably. Taking one last look over her fur, she finally vacated her nest and emerged into the main part of TreeClan's camp. Looking around, Rowanberry searched for two cats. One, her former apprentice, and the other, her new apprentice.
Emberflower seemed to have left, off doing StarClan-knows-what, and Rowanberry was content to leave it at that. She would worry about revenge and retaliation later. For now, her green eyes had found a new target, and she strode over to where Fernpaw was.
"Fernpaw!" Rowanberry waved her tail as she approached, a wide grin lighting up her face. "Do you want to go explore the territory today?" Rowanberry quickly ran through the territory in her head, picking out which would be the most exciting places for Fernpaw to visit first. The great maple was always a sight to behold, especially with all the leaves changing colors, but the wildflower clearing was still filled with flowers; the shallow marsh was interesting yet also somewhat dangerous, but the hidden thicket was a key place they would frequent and should probably be included in their tour.
Giving herself a mental shake, Rowanberry focused back in on Fernpaw, concentrating on her answer. With an inviting wave of her tail, she led the way out of the camp, a small shiver of chill and excitement rippling down her spine as a slight breeze picked up.
