Vulturepaw had snuck out again, and was in the Black Woods. He sniffed the air softly as he looked around. He was fascinated with this place, the trees were all black, and there were so many plants around. This place hit his curiosity button hard. He walked up to a tree and placed his paw on it gently. It felt odd, it was different from the normal trees he saw. Then he continued to look around slowly. His eyes stopped on a red berry with rounded leaves, and he slowly walked up to it. His head tilted slightly, and he gave the berry a few sniffs. He had never seen one before, and he wondered what it was. Sadly, he had no idea that he was looking at Holly Berries, which were dangerous to him in large doses. He gave a few more sniffs to the berry before licking his lips slowly. Whatever they were, they looked delicious. He could feel his curiosity rising by the second as he stared at the berry. His eyes were fixed and he slowly leaned in. He gave his lips a final lick as he opened his mouth and pulled one off. He ate it quickly and gave a soft nod. The juices filled his mouth as he chewed, and he let out a soft purr. Once he had finished eating the berry, he licked his lips again.

"Ooooh, that is so nice! I'll have to take one to the other apprentices!"

He couldn't resist, he had to try everything! His curiosity was too strong, he wanted to know what everything tasted like. He licked his lips once again, he really enjoyed that berry. He had to have another! Then, he would fetch some back for the other cats! He licked his lips once more, as he stared at the berry intensely. Just one more berry, just one more!

Nightwhisper left the shelter of the black woods, a grackle clamped in her jaws, the bird still warm from being an all-too-recent catch. Her claws unsheathed briefly as she spotted a small black shape near a holly bush, the scent of the grackle so close to her nose making it difficult to discern friend or foe.

Approaching cautiously, Nightwhisper's hackles lowered as she recognized Vulturepaw. What is he doing out of camp by himself? Nightwhisper set down her grackle, about to calmly ask what he was doing out without anyone for accompaniment, when she saw the young tom lean in to eat another holly berry. Nightwhisper hissed in surprise and darted forward, pulling Vulturepaw back by his tail. "Stop that!" She yowled, trying to make her hoarse voice convey the seriousness of the situation. "Those berries aren't safe to eat. Have you eaten any already?" StarClan, please don't say 'a lot'.

Tail swishing behind her in a concerned, twitching gesture, Nightwhisper didn't know whether to be cross with the foolish apprentice, or sympathetic. Curiosity wasn't a bad trait to have, it would probably benefit him as a warrior if he could hone it in properly, but there was the chance that if she was too soft on him, he would find himself in even more trouble later.

Vulturepaw snapped his jaw shut as he was pulled away, missing the berry. He looked back to see Nightwhisper, and listened to him. When he had finished, Vulturetalon turned back to the berries and licked his lips again.

"I only had one. They tasted really nice."

Although, his stomach gave a pained rumble, followed by a soft pained sigh from Vulture. He could see now why they were bad for him, but oh well, it was worth it to get such an amazing new taste.

"Oh, now I know why they are bad. It was worth it though, they tasted so good."

He gave a small smile and looked back to the berries, he wondered what else he could try that was around here, he looked around and then back to Nightwhisper.

"What else can I eat here? I want to eat everything!"

He gave a wide smile and looked around once more. He had to try everything at least once. That was his life goal, and he would try his hardest to achieve it, or die trying!

Nightwhisper was no medicine cat. Though she had stayed in Smokefur's den for a while after the forest fire (alongside her mentor, Waspflight), Nightwhisper had gleaned very little from the experience about what to do in case a silly kit or apprentice had ingested something poisonous.

"You can eat fresh kill like everyone else," she mewed, "and whatever herbs Smokefur gives you. Come, we need to find her before you keel over." Her voice was of reprimand, quiet and raspy but carrying the authority of her senior warrior status. If his appetite and his curiosity were truly as insatiable as he seemed to be implying, then it wouldn't surprise her if she discovered the bee-brained tom crouched over some fox droppings, considering trying one or two.

Nightwhisper shook her black and white furred face to and fro, alarmed at the idea that he could've eaten death berries. She would have to tell Smokefur to show Vulturepaw what they looked like - so at least he knew well enough to stay away from them. Herding Vulturepaw back to camp with her tail pushing him along, Nightwhisper brought him right to the medicine cat's cave, calling in softly.

She still felt a sharp twinge in her throat from the effort, and her tail-tip twitched as she resisted the urge to wince.
"Smokefur? Vulturepaw's eaten a holly berry."

Smokefur was happy with the slow nature of the day she had been having, however as Nightwhisper called in about a rather troublesome apprentice giving her cause for alarm. The medicine cat just couldn't understand why he ate everything he could get his paws on, and it was honestly horrifying for Smokefur to imagine what he would eat next. Having little doubt the Vulturepaw would sink his fangs into something that would cause his blood to curdle Smokefur knew they would eventually be lowering Vulturepaw's corpse into a much to early grave. Pushing the dreadful thoughts aside she began her work diligently, by first calling the pair into her crypt-like den. "Bring him in, please." Obviously she would be shoving her paw down his throat again, it would be a waste of herbs to try to induce vomiting any other way. Perhaps a particularly gruesome way to treat an apprentice Smokefur wondered if Nightwhisper would find the whole thing unnerving. "You know what comes next Vulturepaw, let's get this over quickly." Smokefur mewed, her resignation to the wicked task evident in her tone.

Vulturepaw followed Nightwhisper slowly with his head hung. The berry was nice in taste, but he didn't know it was bad for him, and now he had to go see Smokefur. Once they arrived in her den, he listened to her before stepping back slightly. He didn't want the same treatment like last time. It was horrible, the taste of vomiting was disgusting. Worst thing he had tasted in his life! He didn't really want to go through with that again. If it meant suffering a bad belly, then that was fine by him. He just didn't want to go through with that horrible feeling again.

"Do we have to Smokefur? It's only a bad belly. I'm sure I can tough it out!"

He puffed out his chest, before he let out a soft pained sigh, followed by his stomach. He then looked back up to Smokefur with a small smile. Did he really have to do that thing again?
