Name: Shellstep
Age:15
Gender: Tom
Clan: Rainclan
Rank: Warrior
Picture:
Description: Shellstep is somewhat small in size, at least when in comparison to some of his clanmates. This doesn't really affect him too much, though his smaller stature allows him to move faster than some larger cats. Otherwise, the rest of his body is pretty much the same as the average Rainclan cat. His fur is just a little longer than he would like, making him look a little fluffy, though his tail is actually the only part of him that has a truly fluffy appearance, seeming more like a squirrel's at times than that of a cat. His coat color is a white in color and his eyes are a pale green, all of his features inevitably pulling together to create a soft and gentle appearance in this tom.
Description Summary: A gentle looking tom with white fur and green eyes
Personality: Shellstep is a cat that holds a select few things above all others. These things include self preservation, the pursuit of knowledge, the thrill that he feels when inflicting pain upon others, and the ability to pretend. Of all these things, the one he holds higher than the others is of course self preservation. He'll do just about anything if he thinks it will benefit him in the long run. This is partly why he puts on a facade for the rest of his clanmates. A cat has an easier time surviving in a clan than they do when living as a loner and he knows that nobody would want him around if they knew what he was really like, so he puts on a facade. It can at times be difficult to keep going, especially in the midst of battle, but in the end it's worth it. He's even willing to throw the lives of his clanmates away for the sake of keeping himself alive, healthy and happy. Shellstep doesn't care, in his eyes the other cats of his clan are nothing more than tools to continue his survival.
He's happy to get to know his clanmates as much as possible however. Always willing to listen to their troubles or fears, spar with them, hunt with them. Becoming close to someone is a wondrous way to learn all about them as well as their weaknesses, their fighting styles, and the traumas they've endured so that he can relish in their suffering while pretending to be a loyal and loving friend. He loves learning, specifically about other cats as this is information that he could use again someone in the long run. So anyone could feel free to confide in him, with the knowledge that he's always willing to listen, and while he's listening to you, he's memorizing the information you're giving him and storing it away for later use.
Then there's his love of inflicting pain. Yes, he is in fact a killer but for him, killing is the merciful end to a long and arduous string of pain and torment inflicted upon others. Shellstep views murder as a lovely little end, but much rather prefers to watch his victims writhe in agony before watching the life slip from their eyes. He loves all forms of pain that can be inflicted, physical, mental, emotional. In fact, he often times targets cats that he knows have had a traumatic past and gently attempts to 'reopen any scars they may have' in various different ways. These methods can range from putting the cat in a situation similar to the one they were in when the trauma occurred, lightly commenting about a lost loved one, or even picking at a cat's personal flaws. As far as he is concerned, he lives for the sight of tears flowing and the sounds of a cat crying out in pain. It's his own personal art form and it brings him a joy like no other.
Lastly, he considers the ability to pretend to be valuable. As much of a sadist as he is, Shellstep knows that clan cats don't want someone like him around. At least, not if he's going to be openly flaunting his horrid nature. So over time he has observed other cats and patched together a facade to wear over his normal 'skin'. He pretends to be shy, soft-spoken, and caring in nature to all those who know him. This is because, while growing up with his sister Willowheart, Shellstep learned that quiet cats tend to be thought of as harmless and innocent. So what better way to keep others unaware than by acting shy? He's become quite good at it now, having learned the motions and how to act and react towards everyday situations like a cat fitting his persona would. So far, it seems that nobody else is aware of who he truly is and he intends to keep it that way.
History: Shellkit and Willowkit were born to Sheepnose and Barkwolf, a little bit earlier than expected. Their parents, while both good warriors, were a bad match as mates. They were always arguing about something or another, and they were almost constantly stressed out when they were near one another and had only mated for the sake of having kits. This wouldn't normally be a problem, since Barkwolf tended to stay away from his mate at almost all times, but after the announcement of Sheepnose's pregnancy, Barkwolf decided to stay by her side as often as he could.
His intentions were good but led to more bickering in the long run and eventually, all that stress caused Sheepnose to go into labor early. The result were two kits who were undersized, underweight and one of whom had died moments after birth, leaving them with only two small kittens. Sheepnose of course blamed it all on Barkwolf and the bickering continued, even as the newborns fed from their mother's milk. Regardless, the two kittens were given the names Shellkit and Willowkit and they were both loved by their parents in spite of the arguing.
Shellkit was fairly normal during the first few moons of his life, albeit seemingly indifferent to the emotions of others as well as having a penchant for playing a bit too rough with others. Nobody really suspected anything unusual and Shellkit had not yet realized his sadistic nature yet. It wasn't until the day his mother took them to the camp stream to teach them how to swim that he had begun to discover that.
At about 3 moons of age, Shellkit and Willowkit had been playing together one day. They usually loved to pretend they were the leader and deputy of their own clan, but Shellkit was almost always the leader in their little game. Willowkit wanted to be leader for once and when her brother refused, she pushed pinned him down and wouldn't let him go until he agreed to let her play leader. Eventually he agreed, but he was mad at her for the rest of the day and wanted to find some way to get her back. The very next day, Sheepnose took them to the Camp Stream to try and teach them how to swim. Willowkit seemed to learn faster than him, which only succeeded in making him even more upset. Eventually another she-cat came along to get a drink of water and started chatting with Sheepnose, distracting her. Shellkit noticed this and, while his mother wasn't looking, snuck up behind his sister and pushed her head under the water, watching her thrash about in a vain attempt to free herself from his hold.
He let go of her after a while, laughing at the look on his sibling's face as she gasped for air and started crying immediately afterwards. An enthralling feeling overtook the tom and he was tempted to do it again, just to see her tears again, but he decided against it, instead lavishing in what remained of the feeling as Willowkit cried out to their mother about his wrong doings. After a harsh scolding from his mother and a word with the clan leader about holding the tom's apprentice ceremony back, Shellkit learned both of the concept of harming another, and the effects of doing so and for a while he vowed not to do it again while he and Willowkit had developed a mutual hatred for one another.
When the time finally came for Shellkit to be apprenticed, he had already held an unhealthy distaste for his sibling as she had become an apprentice before him. This, combined with his newfound abilities in hunting, fishing, and fighting that he was learning from his mentor, allowed him the opportunity to experiment with the concept of pain. He mostly fished to find food for the clan, but he would also on occasion hunt down small mammals as well, catching them, only to rip their limbs off before finally killing them just to hear their cries of pain. It was delightful, the most euphoric feeling that had flooded him each and every time he heard those sounds. He wanted more, and as he progressed through his training, he would get exactly that.
At around 13 moons of age, he was made into a warrior. His sister of course had already received her warrior name before him. The two were finally being forced to deal with one another after moons of distrust between one another, having both been put on a patrol. On this patrol, a young apprentice by the name of Duckpaw had accompanied them, though she appeared to be lagging behind the rest of them. The patrol hadn't even noticed when she and Shellstep seemingly disappeared, only eventually finding out that they were gone when Willowheart looked back to see there was no one else there.
They eventually found Shellstep staring down at the bloodied corpse of Duckpaw, who was laying just on the other side of the Nightclan border, the multiple scents of a Nightclan patrol covered her body and she was quite clearly dead. Shellstep explained that he had noticed the apprentice was gone and had went to look for her, only to find her dead on the other side of the border. Most cats believed it, after all, the body smelled of multiple Nightclan cats so it must have been true. Willowheart however, did not believe him. Though it did not matter much, she had no proof that he committed such a crime, so he walked away free and to this day remains a warrior of Rainclan.
