His heart hadn't raced like that in far too long. The thrill of attacking an enemy cat was like obtaining the perfect high. With the images of Vultureback's surprised expression and blood seeping from his neck, Leopardyowl didn't feel guilty that his plan had failed. The intention of seeking out the traitor wasn't to kill him right away. In fact Leopardyowl was trying to scare him, perhaps break a bone or two but never death. That was an added bonus. It wasn't until he landed on the back of the blood-traitor that he realized just how easily it would be to kill him. Biting in his neck as if he was prey and so Vultureback became his first prey.
However Leopardyowl had no intention of devouring the traitor but instead pushed his body into the river. Praying to who ever answered that the body was found a few moons later, when all shred of evidence was gone.
Despite being nervous that his deed would be found out, Leopardyowl couldn't shake the thrill. His paws itched for something else to sink his claws into. Out of careful planning, Leopardyowl avoided going back to the Wooded Cove. If Vultureback's body was found sooner than anticipated he didn't want any lingering scent to lead the rotten-blooded cats of RainClan to their camp. He'd go down for it and no one else.
Leopardyowl had decided to prowl along the edges of the river. Until he happened upon them. Duckquack and Lizardleap. The two seem to be caught up in their own little world. Duckquack was pressing himself close to Lizardleap, snippets of their conversation could be heard and nothing Leopardyowl wanted to hear.
Duckquack talked of starting their own little family. It was a revolting idea! Lizardleap was already half-clan and did Duckquack really expect that their kits could be welcomed? Angered bubbled in him again as the thrill of having killed already urged his claws forward into a powerful leap to cross a narrow stream leading into the willows.
He gave no verbal warning as he snarled at Duckquack. The tom was confused, conflicted even that such a thing was happening. Lizardleap jumped to try and defend him but Leopardyowl kept her back by moving his body to block her way.
"First the traitor then the bastard," Leopardyowl growled. Duckquack was slow to react, after all Leopardyowl was still technically a clanmate but that didn't save him. Leopardyowl used his claws to rack across the side of Duckquack's neck. The tom barely able to utter a yowl in surprise before succumbing to the rapid blood loss. Lizardleap cried out in terror as she watched her possible mate stumble for a moment, his blood staining the ground.
Using her shock to his advantage Leopardyowl turned toward her, claws still bloody. However unlike before Lizardleap was prepared. She lunged back, arching her spine to seem bigger as she snarled. Leopardyowl didn't mind, having to work for his victory would be a good challenge. His amber eyes didn't waver much as he moved to circle her. She stood her ground attempting to protect the fading life that was Duckquack from further harm. She prayed someone would rescue them.

STORMHEART With Bluewave's order, Stormheart had quickly gathered his patrol together, and then set off at a brisk pace for Swanfeather's camp. Anger and distrust roiled within him, but he kept his pace brisk and controlled, his face impassive. Now was a time for controlled action, for care. He glanced back at the cats following, hoping his apprentice would be all right with such a tense situation. Mentally, Stormheart decided that if she held herself well in this situation he would consider it one of her assessments, after all, this could very well end up in a battle.
The other cats were warriors and should hold up well, he shot both of them a sharp look, before pausing on the edge of what was considered part of the Purists territory.
"Alright, we are going to play this very very carefully. If any of you gets unnecessarily aggressive I will send you back to camp. This has to be civil, we have to have answers. However if things do get messy in there, I'll lead a wedge and fight our way out of camp until Minnowpaw can get a chance to run to camp for enforcements. We will retreat if and when possible. Like I said though, that must be a last reso-"
A muffled yowl broke through the undergrowth and STormheart whipped his head in the direction, leaping into action with a curse. Within seconds the scent of blood washed over his senses and he rounded a tree to catch sight of Leopardyowl facing Lizardleap, with the body of Duckquack crumpled nearby. A quick tinge of sadness hit Stormheart, another cat dead? But it was replaced by liquid fire taking his veins as he saw another cat being threatened. With a piercing yowl STormheart stood to his full height and size, fluffing himself up even bigger.
"LEOPARDYOWL! So the Purists are murdering now? Where is your so-called dedication to the code?"
He twitched his tail side to side, hoping his patrol would get the idea to fan out to cover him. Then he turned his gaze to Lizardleap. If he was lucky, Leopardyowl would let her go, but if not, Stormheart would have to leap to the she-cats defense. Muttering to his patrol behind him, he kept his gaze glued to Leopardyowl's.
"Owlflight, take the left, Mistsong, take the right and make sure Lizardleap gets out safe. Minnowpaw, stay behind me in case i need to send you to camp." I'm not standing still. I am lying in wait. background image | word count | BlooRey DVD Fawn @sparrowkeeper @snowfall | table by phoenix

She wanted to be anywhere but here. Never had she wished for her namesake's size and ability to blend into the surroundings, into nothingness. Soft, fawn-colored ears pinned to her skull as she skulked through the territory behind her mentor, Stormheart. Minnowpaw could swear she felt her heart weighing heavily in her chest where it had sunk the instant Bluewave had called her name as being part of the patrol to discover what had happened to Vultureback. Couldn't she have stayed with Bitternwing instead? She was good at sitting unassumingly at someone's side. The same could not be said for any of the more useful things, like catching a murderer.
She looked up at Stormheart as the big tom began to speak, her uncertainty reflected in her greenish eyes. Before the patrol head could finish his warning, however, a yowl interrupted him and she found herself racing after the gray tom, desperately trying to keep up. When she caught sight of the scene unfolding before her, any sounds the apprentice attempted to make seemed to just crash into one another. With a squeaking hiccup of a hiss, Minnowpaw back-pedalled, eyes wide as the full moon. There was so much blood.
It was Stormheart that snapped her gaze away from the convulsing body of Duckquack. Still looking as alarm as a mouse that stumbled into a snake's nest, Minnowpaw scrambled to decipher what it was Stormheart instructed her to do. W-What? Behind. Camp. Run? RUN! No wait not yet! The thoughts collided fiercely with one another in her fear-scattered brain for several seconds before she succeeded in vigorously nodding her head (and giving her slight dizziness). Stay. I... I can do that. She assured herself, pelt fluffing up so she appeared larger than she was, greenish eyes pinned on Leopardyowl.
Of all the things to get lucky in... It j-just had to be finding a murderer. She thought grimly.

The distant snarl about traitors had alerted her first, quickening her heart and perking up her ears fearfully as it interrupted Stormheart's warnings. Then the muffled yowl, the cry of terror.
Before she even knew what was happening, Owlflight had started running, mind flitting fearfully through the possibilities as she flew across the ground with the rest of the patrol alongside her, following Stormheart. She hadn't heard the cries well enough to know who they came from, but she had little doubt that this was another attack and she prepared herself for the worst. The she-cat burst through the undergrowth, the scene before her flashing vivid in her eyes. Blood, so much blood, on the ground, on Leopardyowl's claws... The she-cat shuddered, glancing at Minnowpaw in pity despite herself. This was something that no cat should have to see, let alone an apprentice. She glared coldly at Leopardyowl, dropping into a battle crouch and not taking her eyes off him.
As Stormheart yowled at the murderer, Owlflight gently rested her tail on Minnowpaw's shoulders, hoping that the gesture would help calm the apprentice, but it was fleeting and the warrior quickly padded to Stormheart's left as he ordered it, ready to leap at any given moment. It was obvious that Leopardyowl was in some kind of frenzy, the expression on his face looking anything but lucid, but she held on to the hope that they might still subdue him without violence. Perhaps he could be calmed, perhaps they could reason with him. He was a clan-mate after all.
The scent of fresh blood hung in the air like a fog, and Duckquack was far too still. Owlflight tried to think of her mind as a still pool, finding calmness as rage bubbled within her.
I will not descend to his level
"Leopardyowl, this has gone too far. Sheathe your claws and submit yourself to the justice of the clan. Let there be no more bloodshed."
She meowed, keeping her voice level as her clear blue eyes kept keenly focused on the tom.

"LEOPARDYOWL! So the Purists are murdering now? Where is your so-called dedication to the code?""The Code was broken when we started letting Half-Clan filth and traitors thrive in RainClan!" Leopardyowl snarled, tail lashing in fury as he rounded upon Timberstar's so called Loyalists. They were weak. Loyal to a NightClan fox. Loyal to traitors, to cats that would weaken RainClan's strength for many moons to come. When he had stumbled upon Duckquack and Lizardleap planning their future together-- killing them became the only sensible option. Leopardyowl's frenzied gaze swept from Stormheart to Mistsong to Owlfight, before they found Minnowpaw. His lips pulled back in a cruel, leering expression, his claws tearing up tufts of grass as he thrust his muzzle forward. "Your father didn't deserve to be leader, and you don't deserve to exist!"Filth! Leopardyowl spat on the ground between them and then lunged straight for Minnowpaw, even as Lizardleap scrambled out of the way and nearly stumbled over Duckquack's body. He was going to shred Razorstar's daughter until there was nothing left--until all the bad blood was out of RainClan for good.
Stormheart & Owlflight & Mistsong can tackle him together to stop him from killing poor Minnowpaw. Feel free to rough him up a bit, and everyone else can sustain minor injuries as well. @dreamer , BlooRey DVD @sparrowkeeper @snowfall

STORMHEART This situation was getting alarming very quickly, and Stormheart worried that the gruesome sight of Duckquack's bloody broken body would set his apprentice off. Thankfully she seemed to be deadling with it weel, but Leopardyowl seemed to be getting more and more agitated, turning a fierce spitting countenance on the patrol with an unnerving wild look to his eyes.
When he replied in a demented tone, staring at Stormheart as he spued hatred, the gray warrior felt himself want to sink petrified by the utter ghostly lack of empathy of reason, of logic therein. It was a moment that lasted too long without a response from Stormheart, as clearly the other tom was too far gone to listne anymore. Then Leopardyowl screeched as he saw Minnowpaw, charging forward, and Stormheart snapped out of his small daze, hissing fiercely and stepping clearly into the toms path, rearing up to slam down on Leopardyowl.
He hoped as he got into position that Owlflight would follow accordingly. Even as he reared he yowled towards Minnowpaw. "Go back to camp! Get Ottersplash and Bluewave! We'll need some help restraining this murderer!" He wasn't sure if she would listen, but he hoped she would. Keeping a cool head in battle was the mark of a warrior and if she did this right... maybe she could finally get her warrior ceremony as she deserved. I'm not standing still. I am lying in wait. background image | word count | tagged | table by phoenix

Soft, fawn colored ears lay pinned against her head as the frenzied tom's sights narrowed on her. His words dug into her like pebbles kicked up by a whirlwind of motion, their sharp points jabbing into her heart with enough force to make the young she-cat flinched. Everyone seemed thrown off by the Purist's words, and it was as though the world stood still for a heartbeat. And then he was charging at her. Desperation clutched her chest making it difficult to breathe, difficult to think clearly. And so she clung on to the first thing, the first tom to pop into her head.
Pulled directly from Coldrush's lesson a few sunrises ago, the RainClan apprentice lashed out, putting all her force into cleanly swatting the attacking tom's paws straight into the ground. This seemed to give Stormheart enough time to crash down onto Leopardyowl's frame, his thunderous voice ordering her to return to camp and get help. Backpedaling out of the way of the two now-brawling toms, she looked at Owlflight, and then to Lizardleap, who stood stock-still a couple fox-lengths away. Kicking up bits of debris as she shot off, Minnowpaw veered towards the terrified she-cat, quickly nudging her away from the chaos and carnage.
If she was running, she was bringing the young warrior with her. Lizardleap had been an apprentice alongside Minnowpaw for a couple moons, and was younger even than Minnowpaw despite her warrior name. She wasn't about to leave her here alone. "Lizardleap, run." She hissed, the small white-and-grey she-cat picking up speed with her clear blue eyes wide. Minnowpaw didn't know whether Lizardleap was listening out of respect, or simple fear. The apprentice didn't care. She just wanted her Clanmate safe. Streaking side by side, the pair of she-cats tore through RainClan's territory, heading straight for camp.
It was like a chant in her head, one she repeated over and over in her mind. RainClan is more than blood. Loyalty is more than lineage. I am RainClan. So focused was she on this little mantra, Minnowpaw barely noticed as they splashed loudly through the stream surrounding RainClan, before exploding through the reeds into the center of camp. Both wild-eyed and frantic, Minnowpaw's chest heaved as she scrambled to identify the cat she wanted. "Bluewave!" She half-shrieked, half wheezed, alarming anyone within a pawful of fox-lenghts. RainClan's deputy emerged, moving quickly and staring at her and their new guest curiously.
"Leopardyowl... Murderer... Duckquack is d-dead, tried to get Lizardleap.. We saved..." She gasped between breaths, the words tumbling from her mouth before she could stop them. And then it was like she remembered why she was here, panic seizing her as she fixed Bluewave with a desperate gaze. "He's a-after Stormheart and Owlfight! Help!" Bluewave seemed to burst into action then, thinking of everything. Someone was suddenly at Lizardleap's side, helping her along to rest. Minnowpaw had little clue who exactly Bluewave gathered, or if he gathered anyone at all.
All she knew was as soon as the RainClan deputy looked at her and asked "Are you alright to take us there?" Minnowpaw turned tail and bolted without an answer. Her limbs burned with the effort she'd thrown into her full-tilt run here, and now back, but she couldn't stop, wouldn't stop, not while Stormheart was in trouble. She could hear thundering pawsteps behind her, pushing herself to move faster, better, anything. Water pulled at her fur while she clumsily (and loudly) splashed through the stream for a second time, hauling herself onto dry land and streaking back the way she'd come.
Run run run RUN! Came the new mantra, off-green eyes seeing nothing but the path before her. As they neared, the apprentice had to fight the urge to shut her eyes; she didn't know what she would find, and part of her didn't want to know. She just hoped she wasn't too late.

Owlflight cursed as Leopardyowl leaped forwards, leaping as one with Stormheart as she moved to stop the tom, tail high with a fierce concentration on her features. The two warriors were too slow to stop Leopardyowl from reaching Minnowpaw, but it seemed that the apprentice could handle herself just fine. Owlflight felt a swell of pride for her clanmate as the apprentice cleanly disabled Leopardyowl, toppling him to the ground and allowing Owlflight and Stormheart to descend onto Leopardyowl's back together with an audible thump.
As Stormheart yelled to Minnowpaw, the she-cat immediately focused on trying to get a grip with her teeth on the back of the tom's neck, hoping that by holding him there she would be able to subdue him. A well-aimed bite there would kill, as Leopardyowl had already shown with poor Vultureback, and if she had her teeth in that spot he would know that she meant business. She shoved down with all her weight and strength onto Leopardyowl's shoulders, attempting to pin the tom's body to the ground beneath her as she snapped at the back of his neck, aiming to grab a hold of him rather than to outright kill him.
((Sorry it's so short))
