But it tells you nothing

"Mind your manners when you are out in camp today,"

Coalkit nodded toward his mother as he darted away and out into the camp clearing. He had only recently been given the grand tour of the camp, learned where his father slept as well as where his aunts and uncles slept. His grandmother had been helping his mother for sometime and often watched over them when Starlingcry went to stretch her legs. Coalkit had only seen his father a few times, he was an interesting cat whom Coalkit wanted to be like. However, unlike his siblings Sookit and Ashkit, Coalkit would often find himself drawn to the odd scents coming from the medicine cat den.

He had only met the older she-cat simply because she would often visit to ensure they were all growing strong. At first his mother wanted him to stay close, it was her way and she often tried to help them with the smallest of task. Quite the overbearing mother, Coalkit didn't care really but sometimes it did bug him.

This day was Coalkit's first day allowed to go into camp by himself. Normally his siblings would be right behind him or one of his many older family members would be near. This was Coalkit's first taste of freedom. Instead of heading for the center of camp as most kits did, Coalkit followed his nose toward the medicine cat den.

He lingered for a moment near the entrance his small whiskers twitching and fluffy grey tail going back and forth. He hadn't memorized anyone else's scent yet, it would take time for him to learn his clanmates by smell alone. But he was a quick study and able to memorize most things very quickly, it would only be a matter of time until he learned everyone.

Mustering up the courage to draw attention to himself, Coalkit moved further into the den.

"Smokefur, are you in here?" He called out to the she-cat his voice soft, a timid voice from a still growing kit.

    Nightclans' medicine cat had found trouble sleeping the nights prior to Coalkit's visit, thus when he called out to her he didn't hear a reply right away. Smokefur had returned from a trek through the clan territory not long before the curious kit appeared, it was a successful departure as she had returned with fresh herbs yielded by a lush forest. Intending to get the new herbs sorted and stored right away Smokefur had wasted no time in preparing them, however her plans were soon derailed as the exhaustion gripping her bones took hold and she found herself sleeping face down in a small pile of Chervil. The sweet scent filling her nostrils had her dreaming peacefully when Coalkit's call echoed throughout Smokefurs' den, and even though he only vocalized once her mind began to slowly drag her away from her peaceful slumber. "O-of course..." The medicine cat was forced to croak after she finally remembered who and where she was, lifting her head slowly Smokefur used a paw to rub off the Chervil still stuck to her nose.

He didn't have to wait too long for Smokefur to talk answer him. Which only prompted the little tom-kit to flick his tail with excitement. He didn't bother waiting for an invitation before treading carefully into Smokefur's den. Noticing the silver tabby she-cat was appearing to wash her face of something, only furthered his interest.

He walked toward the she-cat and paused at a respectable distances from her. His soft kitten fur was fluffy. It appeared that the careful grooming done by his mother as short lived. Personally the tom-kit didn't care about personal grooming but did enjoy the act being dome for him. His mother was kind during the task and often used it as a tool to lull the growing kit to sleep.

"Howe are you today Smokefur?" Coalkit asked her politely, unsure if Smokefur enjoyed the the company of kits or not. Some cats rejoiced in the company of kits and often spent time with them. However, there were cats that didn't care to see small bundles of fur hanging around and shooed them back to their mothers. Coalkit hoped Smokefur was of the earlier sort.
