It was early morning, much earlier than she was used to getting up. Most of the apprentices had been asleep, paws twitching contentedly in their sleep. Darkpaw had had to pick her way daintily between the various cats before she made it out into the camp, and then further, into the territory. A few fox-lengths from camp and she started to relax, and slow her steps. It was a peaceful morning, still. A little warmth was starting to return to the air, and the sky was clear. As she padded along, she listened carefully to the sounds of the world, trying to tread lightly and not add much noise to it herself.
These precautions certainly weren't for hunting purposes, though. She did not really intend to hunt, although planned on telling anyone who walked by her that that was the case. She more-so wanted to relax before a long day surrounded by cats. Just recently had she decided that perhaps waking up early and spending some time alone would give her the energy she needed to deal with others. So here she was. Relaxing. And observing.
When she reached the main part of the river, Darkpaw glanced around cautiously. She hadn't seen anyone on her journey here, and hadn't heard much- not even wind. Carefully setting her paws right up at the edge of the river, she sat and wrapped her tail snugly around her legs. It really was a beautiful morning.
Looking around, she noticed that the vegetation nearby was fairly short. On a windy morning, she might even be cold. But wind wasn't even what she was most concerned about. She was curious about the short plants themselves, wondering if Swanfeather ever used them. Of course, Darkpaw knew not the first thing about actual medicine, but sometimes she liked to pretend. She lifted a paw and reached out to touch a small, light green leaf, lifting it up a little and concentrating her whole mind on finding something, anything, that could point to a use for it. All she could come up with was the obvious fact that the growth was very new. But then, it was new-leaf, and to be expected. She frowned slightly. How did the first medicine cat learn about these things? How was it that they knew anything about any plant at the present?
