SANDSTRIKE Warrior || TreeClan Waiting, waiting... The sandy-furred tom was waiting and had been waiting for the last half hour or so? It had to be just the right time, just after sunset so there was still enough light to see, but dark enough that the fireflies would be out. Right, take her to the Wildflower Meadow, show her the fireflies and the secret clearing you found, Tell her how you feel. It all sounded so simple in his head. The truth was, Sandstrike was absolutely scared stiff he would mess this up. Just for once, just for one time in your life, don’t make a fool of yourself! Glancing up from his paws to the sky above, he realised it was at last time to make a move. Rasping his tongue hurriedly over his sandy-coloured pelt, the warrior at last rose to his paws. It was about ten minutes till sunset, the sky being a deep amber colour and the sun beginning to dip below the trees. Perfect.
Swallowing nervously, the pale ginger TreeClanner treaded the path to the Warriors’ Den, heart thumping against his chest. Sandstrike was pretty sure he’d seen the pretty golden tabby she-cat slip inside a little earlier, so he peeped his head inside, piercing blue eyes seeking out a certain pelt. “Lionsong? Are you in there?”he whispered in an unusually soft tone for the usually so serious warrior, “It’s me, Sandstrike.” As he awaited a response, the sandy-pelted warrior could feel his heart racing faster and faster. Please say she’s in there. What if I can’t find her? Oh mouse-dung, don’t think like that Sandstrike! Think positive thoughts, positive thoughts. He pictured the golden tabby feline in her head, her sweet scent, her beautiful bronze eyes, the feeling of her pelt brushing against his. Lionsong, never had her name had such a glow to it. He’d been practising this for the last half-moon, Just tell her how you feel, it’s not hard. But the thing was, it was hard. Sandstrike may have fought long and challenging battles, but compared to what he was planning on doing this evening, they seemed like the easiest thing in the world.

Lionsong
"I'm taking a quick nap and I'll meet you for hunting before sundown."
Those were the words the echoed in the ears of a fellow warrior as Lionsong disappeared into the warrior's den and dropping to the shared nest she and Sandstrike had made. It smelled of the handsome tom and for a moment she just enjoyed the comfort his scent brought her before drifting off into a lazy sleep. She dreamed of fat mice and a certain pair of kittens that seemed to share a beautiful golden hue to them, Lionsong knew it was just a dream but it was a sweet dream no matter what, those kits looked like a great mixture of both Sandstrike and herself. The dream seemed to drift again as she ventured deeper into the rest until a familiar voiced tickled her ears. The sun kissed triangles rotated at the sound and a smile was warm on her lips even before she opened her eyes.
Bronze orbs opened slowly as a yawn had her stretching out her legs, rolling over onto her back to look up and see Sandstrike above her. With a playful glitter in he eyes she purred warmly and quite loudly. "Well hello care to take a nap?" She asked him rolling over to her side before sitting up to groom her pelt clean having noticed that his own pelt was neatly taken care of. It begged a certain mystery to the she-cat, was something going on? was there some ceremony that she was meant to be apart of or perhaps Sandstrike was gaining his first apprentice. Gingerkit was of age to become an apprentice surely Lionstar saw that Sandstrike was good choice, Mountaindew her first apprentice had been trained and made warrior without a full blown feud breaking out between him and her, but that was just barely.
"Is there something going on? She asked him pleasantly, gently gliding past him to exit the warrior's den in search of the reason he was so well groomed, not that she minded of course, a clean pelt on a handsome tom such as Sandstrike was all the more reasons to swoon, not that Lionsong was the swooning type..well at least she didn't admit it, the sand colored tom certainly had caught her fancy and she'd happily swoon over him in bashful shyness.

Sandstrike I'm hoping that someday, someday, I'm gonna put a smile on that pretty face, Someway, someway, we'll still be dancing, When we're old and we're grey... Spotting Lionsong curled up in their shared nest, he couldn’t help the huge grin that crept to his face. Feeling all his fears shatter for a moment as he got lost in those beautiful bronze eyes of hers, he made his way over to the pretty golden tabby she-cat. “Well hello care to take a nap?” As much as the sandy-furred tom wanted to give in and just accept her offer, curl in beside her and let the feeling of their pelts brushing send him off to the land of dreams, Sandstrike politely declined, remembering his plan, “As much as I'd love to, not right now. I wanted to show you something,”his piercing blue gaze softened as he let them rest on Lionsong for a moment. He still couldn’t get over quite how beautiful she was. Tearing his blue orbs away from the pretty she-cat, he glanced over his shoulder at the den entrance, flicking his tail softly from side to side, “I found this place…”the sandy-coloured ginger tom didn’t want to give too much away before he’d even shown Lionsong, “I wanted to show it to you.”
Feeling her brush past him as she glided towards the den entrance, he smiled at her sweet voice, "Is there something going on?” Sandstrike shook his head, following her out into the evening light of the TreeClan camp, “No, nothing at all. Well, sort of, it’s”- he broke off, unsure of what to say without giving to much away from his little planned outing. The sandy-pelted tom just studied the pretty golden she-cat for a moment, finding it difficult to take his blue orbs, filled with warmth for his companion, off her. He flicked his tail subtly, nodding to the TreeClan entrance, “Just follow me,”he meowed simply, blue orbs lighting up with playfulness. Lionsong would never guess what he had in store tonight. Feeling a few last minute nerves, the sandy-furred tom tried to shake them away. Padding towards the TreeClan entrance, the TreeClan warrior motioned with a flick of his tail for Lionsong to follow. Well, I’ve found her. That’s one part done. He glanced over his shoulder, blue gaze seeking out Lionsong to check she was following. Just the thought of her, her scent, filled Sandstrike’s heart with joy, yet also sent butterflies fluttering in his belly. He had fallen for a she-cat, something he never thought he’d do. But she wasn’t any old she-cat, this was Lionsong he was talking about. Oh, Lionsong. Please don’t let me mess this up. ooc - Totally! They're such cute names, especially Dunekit.

Lionsong
The secretive nature Sandstrike was portraying had her a little nervous. It wasn't that she was afraid of what he had to show her or tell her it was that so many different possibilities and some of those she wanted to come true. Like her favorite scenario would be Sandstrike telling her that he liked her more then just a den mate, then something else could come of it.
Lionsong hadn't thought to long or hard about furthering their relationship but she wanted to be careful. Sandstrike was a great warrior and handsome one at that but could she hold down a relationship? It wasn't that she didn't have feelings for the tom but rather she was afraid of the growing feelings she had. A warrior's life wasn't easy and she always faced battle with a swift paw and hard bite but could she be as daring and fierce if she knew Sandstrike would be waiting for her safe return. She wasn't sure how to handle the gnawing in the back of her head to safe and return to Sandstrike but what if the roles were reversed? Confessing love and stepping further into that relationship would make seeing him leave for battle harder.
All that and more swarm in her head as she followed him, her pace in time with his but hardly as open to talking as she was before.
'Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don't know why

Sandstrike I'm hoping that someday, someday, I'm gonna put a smile on that pretty face, Someway, someway, we'll still be dancing, When we're old and we're grey... Noticing Lionsong's unease, Sandstrike brushed against the golden tabby feline, blue eyes glimmering with hope and excitement. Perhaps, just perhaps, he'd get this right? Heart pounding against his chest, the sandy-furred tom reluctantly pulled away from Lionsong and continued to lead the way. Sandstrike knew the path to the Wildflower Meadow well enough that his paws happily treaded the way without him so much as having to think of their destination. Feeling the soft grass underpaw and the breeze ruffling his sandy ginger pelt, the TreeClanner beamed warmly at his female companion, "We're almost there," he promised Lionsong. They had almost reached the Wildflower Meadow, but that wasn't what he was planning on showing the golden tabby TreeClanner, no, something much more special than that. The time was just right, the sun beginning to dip below the swath of green trees of TreeClan's forested territory. Sandstrike was aiming for dusk, when the fireflies would just be emerging, adding light to the darkness. As the pale ginger tom stepped from the cover of the trees into the Wildflower Meadow, Sandstrike could feel his heart beating faster and faster, his nerves growing stronger. What will she think? What if she doesn't feel the same? Oh StarClan, please don't let that happen!
Turning to his companion, he forced a grin, trying to look as calm as possible, "Follow me, I found this place..." he trailed off, picking up the pace and leading the way through the wildflowers. The tall golden stems of grass swayed in the breeze and though Sandstrike did his best not to not tread on the variety of wildflowers that carpeted the meadow. His piercing blue eyes settled on the trees ahead. Glancing over his shoulder to check whether Lionsong was still with him, he forced a smile, despite the nerves nibbling at his belly. "Just this way," he led the way, slipping under a juniper bush and disappearing from sight. He emerged into the pale evening light on the other side, casting a quick glance over at Lionsong before letting his blue eyes wander around their surroundings. They now stood in a smaller clearing which, just like the Wildflower Meadow, was dotted with flowers of all sorts and golden grasses stretched upwards. Blinking in the dusk light, Sandstrike smiled in the direction of his companion, “I found this place the other day, I don’t think many other cats have been here, it was pretty difficult to find.” And when the fireflies come out, it’s beautiful… Although the nightly insects hadn’t emerged yet, Sandstrike suspected it wasn’t long till they did. “Well, what do you think?”

Lionsong
She followed him without question, it was easy to go along with him it was actually a comfort to be able just let someone take control when most of her life she spent it taking control of Cougarflight. The walk was pleasant but the romance was a little lost on her, she had spent a lot of time out in TreeClan territory and seen most of it if not all. Flicking her golden tail she sped up her pace to again press pelts with Sandstrike and purred to herself feeling his warmth against her.
He presented to her the wildflowers meadow and if only he knew that it was her most favorite place to relax on those rare occasions that she was able to, the tabby almost ran past him to jump into a wild batch but he had something else in mind.
Following him under the juniper bush, she was presented an area she hadn't visited in awhile and while she had before there was something different about it, Sandstrike was with her and that made it all the more special.
"This place is so pretty!" She said aloud and went forward and tumbled into the grass, rolling on her back in the beautiful flowers. Looking up at him with her bronze eyes she giggled and pawed gently toward him, getting his attention.
It wasn't long until the dusk set in and even deepened into a dark hue. A beautiful sight was quick to follow. Seeming to come out of no where, little fireflies flew out around her and with a kit-ish gleam in her eye she looked toward Sandstirke and smiled wide. "You knew about this?" She asked him come up from where she flattened the grass and nuzzled his chin, a over exciting energy come within in her. "One of the most amazing places I've ever seen. So romantic" While she was honest in her words her cheeks flushed. That last part about it being romantic was intended for him to hear and quickly her eyes went to her paws before turning back to the little bugs with an embarrassed smile, pawing at one or more of the little bugs.

Sandstrike I'm hoping that someday, someday, I'm gonna put a smile on that pretty face, Someway, someway, we'll still be dancing, When we're old and we're grey... Just seeing Lionsong so happy in turn made Sandstrike joyful, "This place is so pretty!" The sandy-furred tom was usually so serious, mature, reliable, but seeing the pretty golden tabby she-cat rolling in the grass, he couldn't help himself. Smirking, the TreeClanner dropped to his paws and rolled. The occasional sprig of wild heather bent beneath his weight, the grass seeds entwining themselves in Sandstrike's pale ginger pelt, but the warrior didn't care. So long as Lionsong was at his side and she was happy, Sandstrike was happy. He batted Lionsong's ears playfully, piercing blue gaze softening and glimmering in the dusk light. It was at that precise moment, that the meadow was suddenly lit up by the soft glow of fireflies, emerging from the shadows. "You knew about this?" Sandstrike smiled shyly and gave a nod, meeting Lionsong's bronze gaze. The sandy ginger tom didn't quite know how to respond, so instead of words, he daringly leaned closer licked her cheek softly.
Almost as soon as Sandstrike had done so, the sandy ginger tom regretted his actions. Pulling away, the TreeClanner flattened his ears against his head in embarrassment, "S-sorry," he stammered nervously, blue orbs avoiding Lionsong's bronze ones, "I-I"- He broke off. Well, this is it, this is what you've been waiting for, the right moment. Sandstrike took a nervous breath, at last looking Lionsong in the eye, "L-Lionsong," he began, his nerves starting to take a hold. C'mon! Don't make a mess of this, this is what you've been waiting for and for StarClan's sake, stop stammering! The sandy-furred TreeClanner gave himself a mental slap, summoning his courage before continuing, "Lionsong, there's been something I've been wanting to tell you..." The words died in Sandstrike's throat. The ginger tom swallowed nervously, shifting his paws; the TreeClan warrior wasn't used to being so open about his emotions. "I-I... I really like you Lionsong, like, really like you, Lionsong," he took a deep breath, gazing into the pretty golden tabby's beautiful bronze eyes, "And I was wondering... If, If you'd... if you'd..."his voice dropped to a hopeful whisper, "Will you be my mate?"

Lionsong
He nodded that he knew and Lionsong felt flattered and adored, he brought her here to show her sometimes special and in turn she felt unique. Closing her eyes she drank in the sounds of the rustling grass as he rolled around, the feel of the sight breeze, her heard raced in her chest, not out of fear or adrenaline but out of joy in the moment, then something touched her cheek, her eyes fluttered open and her cheeks flush.
He apologized quickly after and Lionsong nodded, accepting the apology, but she didn't really want one. It felt nice to feel that kind of affection, her bronze eyes went down cast, slightly unsure of her standing with him at the moment. Surely he wanted something else? Perhaps it was a moment of weakness and he didn't intend to go that far, but Lionsong wasn't one to speculate and she would given the situation ask him out right. As she opened her mouth to talk, he started to and with the trouble he was having creating a phrase, Lionsong didn't interrupt instead she waited.
"Will you be my mate?"
After some time of him struggling to say the words, Lionsong heard those loud and clear and everything stopped. Her eyes grew painfully wide, her heart stopped and her paws itched, a since of unknowing washed over her, did he really want this? Lionsong hadn't ever been one to think of being a mate to anyone, sure she had a crush on a few toms, even thought about settling down but with Cougarflight the way she was, Lionsong wasn't sure she was cut out of the same stone like most she-cat, but deep in her heart she knew that Sandstrike was where she belonged, but as his mate? Wouldn't that bring extra obligations? Mates-bonds were formed and kits came after, could she care for bundles of little bones and fur that came from their paring? Rotating the tension in her shoulders she looked to the ground then back up.
"I am truly flattered Sandstrike, it's just I don't know what to say. I mean I've sort of stuck myself in this way of life. I never thought in a million moons I'd be offered such a role, such an honor." The words started to catch in her throat, she was becoming scared, would she lose him? Could she lose him? Over the past moons then had moved quickly from friends to something more, but mates hadn't crossed her mind, she grew weary of the notion that she'd ruin it by not saying the right thing.
"Sandstrike...I really like you too it's just I'm not sure I can be a good mate...." She finished her thoughts and took a brave step toward him and pressed her face into his shoulder, taking comfort in the warmth of his fur as she waited or him to either confirm or deny her fears.

Sandstrike I'm hoping that someday, someday, I'm gonna put a smile on that pretty face, Someway, someway, we'll still be dancing, When we're old and we're grey... Lionsong’s response was just as Sandstike had expected, at least partially. To hear that she really liked him too filled his heart with a little hope, it wasn’t that bit he’d expected. For a moment the sandy-furred tom just stared blankly at her, trying to take in what the golden tabby had just said. "Sandstrike...I really like you too it's just I'm not sure I can be a good mate...." The words echoed in the TreeClan warrior’s mind for a moment before Sandstrike finally blinked and took a deep breath. The sandy-pelted tom had never imagined he’d fall in love, that he’d ever have such strong feelings for a she-cat that he’d happily die for her. Lionsong had opened up a whole new world, a path that he never thought he’d walk. He wasn’t going to walk away, he wasn’t going to let her go that easily.
Gazing into her beautiful, mesmerizing bronze eyes, Sandstrike took another deep breath and opened his heart, “Lionsong, you are one of, no, the most caring cat I know, you’re smart, loyal…” he paused, wondering whether to continue, “You’re beautiful, and not just on the outside, the inside too,” he pressed closer to the golden tabby she-cat, searching her face for a reaction to his words, “You care so much for your sister, you’re probably the best sister you could wish for. I know having a mate is another responsibility, I’ll admit, the idea of having a mate scares me in ways I can’t even explain. But if you were my mate, we could face it together, I feel so much stronger with you at my side. The thought… The thought of losing you, it’s unbearable... I’-I’d die for you Lionsong.”
Sandstrike realised he’d been rolling on a little and broke off. But there were still a few words unspoken, “You care so much for your sister, If you let me, I can take care of you,”he swallowed, “Lionsong, I’ve never felt this way about a she-cat before, Okay, maybe I lied earlier. I think… I think, I think I love you, Lionsong.” There. He’d gone and done it… He’d poured his heart out. Instantly, the sandy-furred tom regretted his words and he pulled away from the golden tabby she-cat, “I-I’m sorry,” he stammered, frowning to himself, “I respect your decision Lionsong, I really do. I won’t push you into this, if your answer is still no, that’s fine. I’m sorry, I thought we were something we’re not, I understand, I really do,” the pale ginger tom rose to his paws, meeting Lionsong’s gaze for a moment, “I’m sorry, Lionsong, I’m sorry I couldn’t be what you wanted.”

Lionsong
Everything that she was unsure about was coming together, well crashing more life it. While Lionsong didn't know much about love or romance, let alone what being a mate was about, she did know her parents. They had been through so hardships, struggled with their own issues but they still remained so much in love. Question was did she love Sandstrike?
She enjoyed is company, the silly little things he did during the day. A couple times when she was too restless to sleep she watched him, he snored sometimes and his ears would twitched while he dreamed, in fact she remembered being woken up during the night because he was 'running' in his sleep. Lionsong found comfort in him, she could rant about her sister and he wouldn't be annoyed. They could race out at dawn to go hunting and spent the rest of the day curled up with each other just making idle talk before joining a patrol.
What the golden she-cat hadn't noticed was how easily he fit into her life. He molded perfectly into her personality sure they butted heads from time to time but it was easily fixed, they just walked the same path step for step. Realizing just how much he was already present in her life, Lionsong thought it funny and despite the serious tone that was felt in the conversation she giggled softly.
He kept talking just a little longer and Lionsong was now able to make her point and say what was on her mind. "I don't know things about love, but I do know that you are so much apart of my life. I wouldn't want to go another heart beat without you Sandstrike." The words came easily to her as she filled in the gaps, it was like wiping clean the confusion she was starting to ramble also.
"I love it when you bring me those mice the ones you know I like. I find it comforting when you curl up beside me when we sleep. How we can hunt together all day and never get bored. Sandstrike, I love how you try to keep me going, test my strengths, push me to be better. I love you Sandsrike the only way I know how. She paused, coming closer to him, her nose almost touching his. "I love you Sanstrike, I love that you didn't change me but you completed me. I can't be your mate now Sandstrike..because I've always been your mate. From that first day my heart has been yours." With those words she moved to nuzzle his neck, rubbing the length of his body, pressing her own next to him, mixing their scent even more than before, she was his and always had been, but now it was official.
'Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don't know why

Sandstrike I’m on my way home, And I’m worn to the bone, And when my heart hits an all time low, There’s something shining through, I find the light in you… The sandy-furred tom listened intently as Lionsong talked, his blue gaze never leaving the golden tabby she-cat. "I love you Sandstrike, I love that you didn't change me but you completed me. I can't be your mate now Sandstrike..because I've always been your mate. From that first day my heart has been yours." It took a few heartbeats for Lionsong's words to sink in. Wait... Does that mean, she said yes? The sandy-furred tom let out a rumbling purr, pressing himself against Lionsong, blue gaze warm with affection for the pretty golden she-cat. There were no words that could describe how happy the sandy-coloured tom was feeling in that moment, no words that could describe how happy Lionsong made him.
The sandy-furred tom entwined his tail with hers and nuzzled her cheek softly, quite unable to believe that this was really happening, that this moment was for real, "I don't know a thing about love either," he told her, his tone of voice unusually soft, "But we can learn, together. I don't ever want to leave your side, I don't ever want to live without you, not ever." His blue orbs met Lionsong's bronze ones, "Before, you, Lionsong, my life was only about being a warrior and serving my clan..."he leaned closer to the golden she-cat, "Then, you walked in. You opened up a whole new world to me, now you are my life." He gazed into those beautiful bronze eyes of her, finding himself caught up in her beauty, "I love you, Lionsong," he breathed softly, only just loud enough for her to hear, "As long as you're at my side, nothing else matters..."
