Description: Sprucefur was named for his pale colors, coat being a warm, pinkish buff commonly referred to as 'fawn', each individual strand of hair being banded to give off a ticked appearance. The case coat is oatmeal, with the warmer tones sprinkled over top of it, his tail, ears and paws retaining most of the ticked color. Not quite as prominent as that of his older half-brother, Lionstar, Sprucefur's 'mane' will likely get thicker with age, but for now it's more of a thick ruff of fur that keeps his throat and chest warm, white at the chin and center of his muzzle. Long whiskers, dark pinkish tan nose, and a faint tabby "M" on his forehead, Sprucefur's face is distinctive, though the cool colors and serious expressions tend to give off the impression that he's a lot more detached and difficult to impress than he actually is.
With 'highlights' beneath dark, glassy yellow-green eyes, they tend to frame what is probably his best feature, appearing almost fox-like as a whole with a bushy buff tail, tall ears and handsome, defined eyes. His body type is closer to his father's than his mother's, having inherited Badgerstripe's more muscular, regal build, he is lighter on his toes than the average cat, and has a talent for climbing trees like his sister, though he prefers to stay pretty grounded. Well-muscled and slim, he is proportionate and in no way lacking physically when he stands next to his fellow warriors and the Clan leader, as well as being the tallest of his three siblings by half a mouse-length.
Semi-longhaired, he has adapted perfectly to his environment, the coat-length able to keep him insulated in the winter moons and cool in the hotter ones, being longest across the chest, the tail and underbelly, while shortest across his shoulder blades and down each pale, sturdy limb. Though it is somewhat difficult to clean and prone to pick up more dirt and detritus, the positives tend to outweigh the negatives. Due to an incident sometime in his apprenticeship, Sprucefur has a razor-thin scar across his nose that you can really only notice when up close.
Description Summary: A large, handsome fawn-colored tom with semi-long fur, a noticeable mane and yellow-green eyes.
Personality:
Not everyone gets to be StarClan's gift to the forest.
It's an understatement to say that Sprucefur is a little uncomfortable around his own Clan leader, the reason being that they are half siblings through a mutual father, Badgerstripe, former deputy of TreeClan. Upon finding out during early apprenticeship that Sprucefur and his siblings shouldn't have existed, and that their presence alone broke the heart of Sandfur, Badgerstripe's actual mate, and infuriated the deputy's “Real Son”, Sprucefur has felt a weird sense of guilt and displacement ever since. As if to add more salt to the wound, the two are actually cut from a very similar cloth, both highly chivalrous and eager to be involved in Clan life as a whole, but if Lionstar is like the sun, then Sprucefur is like the moon, only able to comfortably shine when the golden, seemingly perfect Leader of TreeClan is well out of sight. Polite and respectful to his elders and those older than him, Spucefur gives off the impression of humbleness and vigor, a sometimes reticent soldier who can follow orders while still thinking for himself, always able to lend a paw.
Sprucefur is an excellent tracker and an even better hunter, his creativity and luck unfortunately not replicating itself in the area of fighting, however, this hardly deters him from bringing his best to every fight. When he is not standing in Lionstar's shadow, Sprucefur becomes more sociable and outgoing, his confidence heightened, and he could almost be considered 'charming' if his half-brother hadn't already impressed all the she-cats in the Clan. Despite feeling as though every cat looks at him like the paler poorly made copy of the beloved Clan leader, Spruce alternates between being totally cool with it, to upset and distant, the tom having a strong desire to find his place amongst his peers by making a name for himself, rather than just being “Lionstar's half-brother, who isn't as good.”
Issues with Lionstar aside, Sprucefur happens to be an admirer of those of the female persuasion, knowing full well that all work and no play make for a very dull warrior, bound not quite so tight as his perfect golden brother. Employing a strictly 'look but don't touch” policy, Sprucefur appears to be keeping a respectful emotional distance – as if something or someone is holding back the reasonably suitable, handsome young tom from actively pursuing any romantic interests. Quicker to use his head than he is his claws, Sprucefur is as loyal as one can be, though he does not take criticism well, and can become moody if treated badly. Though he is the first born of his litter and feels a certain amount of responsibility for his siblings, Sprucefur recognizes that they are independent cats with their own personalities, and remains at a comfortable pace beside them, not so overly involved in the lives of his adult siblings that they feel as if he's a burden. Always there to talk when needed, however, Sprucefur is one of those cats who will gladly cast aside his own issues to better focus on yours, seeming to instinctively shift into a support system for those closest to him.
Considering he is always the one listening and usually never the tom asked to share in his worries and current affairs, the stress tends to build up at times (not that he would know how to handle being asked about it anyway, Sprucefur being somewhat awkward when it comes to discussing himself), Sprucefur tends to blow off steam by climbing trees, a talent of which that seems to be uniquely his amongst his siblings (both half and full).
History: Sprucefur was born the oldest in a litter of three, alongside his brother Quietstorm and his sister Appleshade. Though Sprucefur tends to be rather lenient towards her behavior, she has been known to make him worry on occasion. The trio are the result of a fling between the former deputy of TreeClan, Badgerstripe, and a beautiful TreeClan she-cat-turned-loner by the name of Camellia. After a brief romance with the TreeClan deputy (who had a mate and 17-moon old son at this point), Camellia returned to TreeClan to give birth to her litter of three - Sprucekit, Quietkit and Applekit.
Rather than stick around, however, shortly after she gave birth to the trio and found out about Badgerstripe's unfortunate demise, Camellia left her three kits to the care of TreeClan's queens. It was quite a scandal - apparently Camellia had seduced the deputy after Badgerstripe and Sandfur had fought, and to further widen the rift starting to form between the two mates, Camellia sought to rejoin the Clan, her belly heavy with the deputy's unwanted litter. When the object of her desire met his untimely demise during a battle against NightClan, Camellia abandoned her kits to go back to the old loner lifestyle she'd previously been enjoying.
Not hide nor hair has been seen of the beautiful former TreeClanner ever since.
Having always grown up with this feeling that he should be protecting his siblings, whether from physical or verbal attacks or even against their honor, Sprucefur had a slightly unusual kithood. He mastered the ability to 'back talk', and always put in much more effort when the pride of his family was on the line; of a serious, soldier-like personality by the time he reached 6 moons, it wasn't until Sprucepaw was given a fairly young, fun mentor that he began to loosen up. Feeling constantly under attack or judged for who he wasn't, Nightmaple was a breath of fresh air. Rather than unintentionally put him down or make him feel as though he shouldn't be here, Nightmaple was more of a cool older sister, able to make him crack a smile even in his gloomiest of moods, her talent for being easy to talk to and a natural mentor left him with little real defenses against her.
He did develop a bit of a crush on Nightmaple by the time he was 8 moons, but that didn't carry beyond his warrior ceremony; at 11 moons and shortly after a border skirmish that had resulted in the scar across his nose, Sprucepaw became Sprucefur, a loyal, dependable warrior whom none could possibly judge for his relations to the (then) Clan deputy, Lionstep. Finally earning his warrior name had done more than enough to boost Sprucefur's self-esteem, and he began to be comfortable in his own fur, maintaining his close relationship with Nightmaple even after she had taken on a second apprentice after him. Though not yet having taken on his own apprentice, Sprucefur is going through lie at a relatively calm, orderly pace, doing nothing out of the ordinary yet rising to the occasion should something unusual ever happen. Keeping a watchful eye on his siblings, his gaze has been known to stray over to a handful of other cats in particular – most of them being female.
