Nodding her good bye to Stormchaser, the guard of the camp enterance, she had give her orders to Mountianpaw to meet her at the Great Maple Tree. The young she-cat felt with the coming leaf-bare it was high time to perfect Mountainpaw's hunting skills so he too would be on the task force of bringing in more prey, the more hunters the better was the idea in Lionsong's mind.

Yet, the cold snow on her paws did nothing to lessen her mindset, she was going to wait for him even if that meant building a text of leaves to stand on, the ground threatened to freeze everything in sight.

Coming upon the maple tree and it's bare limbs brought a little sadness to her heart, but she shook it away and settled at it's base. Sitting on one of it's large roots, looking toward the direction of camp, waiting for Mountainpaw to come.

"Not a leaf in sight?" She said softly, watching her breathe float out in front of her before disappearing.

Mountainpaw received another summon from his mentor Lionsong, he gave himself a small shake preparing himself for another fun afternoon. He was a horrible little disrespectful apprentice but he believed that the she-cat had earned everything he had sent her way. He couldn’t understand her reasoning and logic at all and was determined to either find an answer he was happy with or bring her down to his level. So he stood up and moved towards the entrance of the camp silently, leaving without any cat noticing him gone like always. Pushing through the entrance he angled himself in the direction of the Oak tree, it was cold inside the camp but somehow it was even cold in the frozen forest. The temperature caused him to breathe deeper as well as stiffening his joints, it wasn’t a long trek before he was at his destination though. Just as she had said Lionsong was already at the tree, so he silently approached and sat in front of her without saying a word waiting for his next training session to officially start.

Gradually as she waited for Mountainpaw to show up she did her trademark singing, just a simple tune she was able to keep with relative ease.

There just behind a thicket, Lionsong caught the scent of him and rose up to be more presentable. As he came closer, she nodded her head in greeting before stepping off her resting place to stand before him.

"With prey so hard to find, I think it be easier for you to hunt me. Now bites or anything I want to track your ability to track and surprise your prey. Kudo points if you are able to actually find some mice or vole to bring back, but that is not the main point of today's lesson. Let me know when you are ready." She meowed and flicked her tail, waiting for him to respond.

“So you want me to hunt you?” He asked simply as she started to skip off into the woods, “Cool.” He called behind him as he sprinted away as fast as he could taking the most random path he could possibly think of. He had no destination in mind he just wanted to put a little distance between himself and his mentor, as well as make sure she has no idea where he is. As he is running her starts having thoughts about how to take away her greatest weapon, his scent as it gave her a 360 degree view of her surroundings. Relying on her site and hearing wouldn’t be enough for her to stop him, his scent would give him away though. Starting to slow down out of breath Mountainpaw surveyed his surroundings and started sniffing the air, positive she was gone he started digging in the snowy, frost covered earth being careful not to break a claw. He dug for a while until he had a decent amount of frozen earth with flecks of snow mixed in to work with, he started carefully applying it to his fur trying not to use too much on any one area and waste his effort from digging it all up. It didn’t take too long, and soon all he could smell was dirt he figured that would work even though he was brown it would also help camouflage him too. As a tradeoff though he was getting very cold rather quick so he couldn’t spend time messing around, he quickly threw some snow onto his pelt too to further help mask his scent and camouflage him before setting off searching for his mentor.

Now she tried to get herself in the mindset of being prey and all the scurrying and hurrying that prey often did. She had no care in the world as he pretended and her mind wandered to how her sister must have felt, always pretending to be something she wasn't.

Yet she remained alert and her ears flicked and her whiskers twitched as she waited for her apprentice and sure enough there was a movement in the bush not to far from her and golden she-cat lowered herself. "Remember Mountainpaw in the leaf-bare moons you need to move without being seen. The snow is your enemy." She meowed out loud, waiting for her apprentice.

Mountainpaw was moving through the underbrush, what little there was as the cold winter had seemed to decimate all plant life, looking for his mentor. It wouldn’t be a long search though as he heard his mentor meow out her tidbit of advice allowing him to pinpoint her exact location. “Gotcha…” He said in a soft voice careful to not be heard, he started slowly moving in the direction of the sound looking for signs of his mentor. He found a trail before too long, a scent here a footprint there and it wasn’t long before he was sure he had her pinpointed. He adjusted his position so the soft breeze wouldn’t blow his scent, even the heavily masked dirt filled one, in Lionsongs’ direction. He started moving slowly in her direction as silently as he could, he knew he couldn’t spend too long on the prowl though and he was positive she was in the bush directly infront of him. He had snuck up behind her and he hoped it would give him the edge he needed, he had stopped breathing so as not to have the gentle noise give him away. He counted to three after judging his distance and pounced on the bush hopefully containing his mentor beneath it.

Lionsong perked her ears up as the slight sound of change coming from the bush behind her. Easily she turned and came face to face with Mountainpaw who landed on her she was prepared and was able to shake him off with a pleased look on her face.

"Very good job Mountainpaw. If I was unprepared prey you would have caught me easily, that was excellent work. Not to mention hiding your scent worked out well too."

Lionsong added with a pleased look on her face, she admired the tom in front of her as she rose up to her paws and shook off a bit. Flicking her golden tail she stepped to the edge of the small clearing and thought for a moment where else to take this training.

"Lets see that hunter's crouch, you did well on stalking and pouncing lets see the crouching. " She meowed, sitting down and waiting for him to display his skill.

The tom was emotionless as ever as he accepted his mentors praise, he knew that he had done well when he stuck the landing. For his mentor know he was coming and actively looking for him and being ready for his strike it was truly excellent. “O-okay…” He choked out around a shiver as he was instructed to do a hunters crouch. Mountainpaw however was having problems he may have made a mistake with the mud and snow to mask his scent and camouflage himself as it had sucked all the warmth out of his body. He tried to crouch down but his joints creaked with the cold and he ended up collapsing to the ground. “W-well… this m-may have been a mistake. D-dedication…” He joked as managed to get back on his feet his entire body now shaking from the cold, to him it still seemed like a sound plan even with the drawbacks.

Lionsong watched him and her eyes quickly narrowed. He was shivering! While at first she didn't think he was completely covered in head to toe with mud and snow, she thought he had simply covered his top half with mud, not she was wrong.

Looking him over quickly she grew frustrated quickly and nearly snap at him right then and there, but paused for a moment. Calming herself before bringing his foolishness to his attention.

"Where is your brain? Did a bird come down and snatch it away?" She meowed curtly, her eyes darkened to a annoyed narrowed look.

"It was a good idea to cover yourself in mud, but snow too? How foolish could you be? Freezing yourself right here in front of me, Mountainpaw I thought you smarter than that!" She raised her voice slightly and shook herself trying not to express her anger anymore than she just had.

She felt as if she was talking to a kit, stupid in his action and dim-witted enough to risk his life. "Explain yourself" She snapped, voice lowering into an almost menacing and annoyed growl, her eyes not to friendly and her lashing almost as if she was going to physically punish him for his foolishness, but she wouldn't dare strike an apprentice without just cause, even if he was walking that fine edge.

Mountainpaw knew he was in for a tongue lashing, maybe not even just with her tongue he half expect her to beat him senseless. In this shape he would not be able to defend himself well at all, his movements were already starting to become very slow and sluggish. Sitting down because he couldn’t do much else he prepared his answer when she asked him what was going through his head. “I-I…” He shivered out, “I-I had to sneak up on you! I did too… you n-never saw me coming… I outsmarted you…” He growled out, he was angry that she dared be upset with intelligence and ingenuity. “I c-can’t understand why you are u-upset.” He added hissing softly annoyed with how cold he was becoming, “S-so are you done yet? I-I am cold and w-want to go home.” He usually wasn’t this short with his mentor, even though he had always been rather cold and indifferent towards her but now he just didn’t care.

He was being down right disrespectful and at first Lionsong was tolerating of him for he had lost his first mentor and was forced to listen to a new one, but Lionsong had enough.

Narrowing her eyes she flicked her tail and nodded for him to stand up and follow her back to camp, but she paused not to far from him and turned to look down at him, treating him as a foolish kit.

"If you are to act like a kit you will be treated as one." Lionsong meowed through a stern look in her eye. "You will not leave camp unless to make dirt or gather moss for the elders. You are to wait on the elders paws and whisker. " Lionsong had started to walk toward camp but kept her pace in order to talk to him.

"You Mountainpaw were foolish to do what you did, and you are not acting like a warrior. Lionstar and I will take about holding you back in your training so you learn what it takes to be a true warrior of TreeClan." Lionsong meowed, flicking her tail as the entrance to camp came into view and she quickly disappeared inside.
