"No, no blood," whispered Duskpaw, a shuddery breath drawn in from the pain in her side. She just wanted to close her eyes and sleep...just...sleep for a while... At least until her body stopped pounding and her head stopped hurting. Demon's blood had stained the normally white fur of Duskpaw's throat and the fur around her mouth, but her eyes were dulling with the pain. Gotta...stay...awake...
Noblepaw! Staggering as though intoxicated, Duskpaw found herself leaning her weight against Littlepaw, blinking gratefully at the smaller she-cat, her head too muddled to string together a few words of thanks. "Where is - Noblepaw? Is he okay?" An involuntary shiver traveled the length of the she-cat's spine, and with it came a spasm of pain that had her whimper, ears pressed flat, her tail wrapped between her legs as though making herself appear smaller might lessen the intensity.
Staring around and ignoring the haziness of her own vision, Duskpaw meekly looked past Littlepaw and Mintleaf to where the TreeClan leader was addressing --
Duskpaw's stomach lurched in horror. How was he standing? Was he okay? The presence of both green eyes staring into the face of Lionstar meant that he had not yet lost his sight, but with his face so covered in blood, her split itself at the seams, the ground disappearing beneath her paws for a brief, terrifying instant. Ignoring Littlepaw and Mintleaf, Duskpaw clenched her jaw so hard she thought her teeth might break, trying to bear the pain of moving as she awkwardly hurried to Noblepaw's side with steps that jarred through her whole body without mercy.
Lionstar:
"Hello?" repeated the golden tom with astonishment. "What happened? We need Spottedfeather here before you lose any more blood, sit down!" It was not a suggestion. The fur along his hackles was still raised, for the sight of so proud an apprentice so bloody and mangled of face was enough to quicken his heart rate by a considerable amount. You little fool, what did you do? Noblepaw hadn't really gone looking for the lynx, had he? Oh StarClan please say he wasn't THAT proud. Glancing swiftly to Duskpaw, who was disoriented, but determined to make her way over here, it occurred to the TreeClan leader that Noblepaw had gone out alone, perhaps looking for Demon, and his tortoiseshell shadow, Duskpaw, had followed him.
Great StarClan, if he really intended to find and fight that lynx... There will be a punishment. Lionstar's eyes fell upon the jagged slashes cutting across the warrior-to-be's face, his jaw tightening, grim thoughts whirling behind burning amber eyes. Though having to bear those scars might be punishment enough - that and the fact that he lost. Was Noblepaw a sore loser? Honestly, he'd never seen the apprentice actually lose a fight before, so he had no idea how Noblepaw would honestly feel about it. Had coming toe to toe with a beast no sole cat could fight punctured his ego as well as his face?

The herbs she brought werent going to do a lot of justice but enough for a little bit. [atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Noblepaw Lionstar had the expected reaction to his simple, quiet greeting; the leader was completely dumbfounded. Amusement flickered through Noblepaw as he stood there, keeping his eyes focused on the large tom with slight difficulty. What did he expect him to say? That his limbs felt like boulders, heavy and unmovable? That his face hurt? How he felt? Even if he was half-dead, Noblepaw would not answer the last question. No other cat needed to know how he felt; it should have been obvious by his physical state. The leader barked out an order, and Noblepaw let out a soft breath; he was not keen on moving at all. Letting the exhaustion wash over him, he felt as though he could stand there forever, despite the trembling in his legs. But an order was an order, and his limbs seemed to be moving without his mind's permission, for his hind legs buckled and his rear touched the ground.
"Duskpaw and I we--" Noblepaw started to explain wearily, reluctant to tell the story. He glanced around as he spoke, not meeting Lionstar's gaze. Green eyes landed on Duskpaw's obviously painful, awkward approach. Oh StarClan, Duskpaw! Instantly, he rose to his paws again, cutting himself off in favor of moving toward her with energy that he did not know he still had. Keen eyes noted the clenched jaw as they met, and the apprentice realized that they both looked like they'd been through the Dark Forest and back. Dead on their paws, what with him bleeding all over the ground and her barely staying on her feet.
Opening his mouth, he tried to summon his voice again, as it seemed to have run off. He needed to know if Duskpaw was alright, how much his actions had indirectly wounded the she-cat. But he couldn't find the words, even though they hung from the tip of his tongue like a drop of dew from a blade of grass, barely clinging to the end of the blade. Just as the apprentice found the words and his voice, Spottedfeather bustled over and began to apply herbs to his various wounds. "Are you alri--" The dotted pelt of the medicine cat completely blocked his view of the tortoiseshell apprentice, and a sharp irritation flashed through him, slicing through the fog that had settled across his mind. "I don't need all this, Spottedfeather," The apprentice snapped at the grown she-cat, his patience short. "I'm not dying. I'm fine." Noblepaw tried to sidestep Spottedfeather in order to maintain eye contact with the smaller she-cat. "Duskpaw, are you alright? How are you?" Of course the answer was as obvious as the lie in his statement, but Noblepaw felt obligated to ask.
Littlepaw Noblepaw? Her other den mate had been pushed to the back of her mind by the she-cat, so it startled her when Duskpaw asked about him. "He's a fi-- a little bloody, but don't worry," Littlepaw hastened to reassure the injured apprentice. "Duskpaw, don't go-- I know I told you to stay awake, but-- wait!" Duskpaw, who had been letting the smaller apprentice support much of her weight, suddenly lurched to support her weight by herself. Dismay filled her as she watched the injured feline awkwardly made her way over to the tom. A moment later, she jolted into action, quickly catching up with the she-cat and offering her shoulder for Duskpaw to lean against once more. Littlepaw could not stop the older she-cat, but she could help the best she could. | [CS=2] Words: 619 Notes: -- | [CS=2] i am the closest thing to god so worship me and never stop [style=font-family: palatino linotype; text-transform: lowercase; text-align: center; font-size; 5px; margin-top: -20px;]credits: don't stop by innerpartysystem cat: here |

"I-I'm fine! But never mind me - what about you? Are you alright?" She managed to squeak, flustered, her fur fluffing up as she saw the blood cascading down her companion's face. Stomach lurching horribly, Duskpaw continued her broken, clumsy movements over to Noblepaw's side, pink tongue slipping past parted jaws to lick the blood off his cheek - not that it would really help. There was so much blood it felt as though even if she'd spent a dozen moons trying to wash it off, there would always be more. She dutifully lurched backwards into a painful sitting position as Spottedfeather began to heal Noblepaw's slashed face.
She couldn't help but marvel at her fellow apprentice's emotional and physical strength. He'd nearly died, and had his face cut open in at least three places, and yet he was as calm as the moon at night in spite of such heavy injuries. Duskpaw was no fool - she could tell it was painful, and she saw his legs tremble as they supported his weight, a type of delirium having settled over the gray and white warrior-to-be. His injuries made hers seem like a thorn stuck in one of her pawpads, and she instantly cut any future whining - not when he was going to need all the medicial attention he could get.
Each rattled breath felt like getting struck in the side by an enemy cat, but Duskpaw held it in, trying to breathe as evenly and as normally as she could, resting her head against Littlepaw's shoulder when the smaller she-cat came up beside her. "Thanks," she breathed, "Don't worry about me until you're done treating Noblepaw, please. M-My ribs hurt, but I can handle it." Spoken in a tired voice, her weariness didn't somehow lessen how much she meant those words, Duskpaw intending to refuse treatment until her bloodied companion had been seen to.
Lionstar:
"Duskpaw, we need you to stay awake until Spottedfeather has treated you. Can you tell me what happened?" The golden tom mewed quietly, not forcing her. He wouldn't inquired further with Noblepaw, but having the apprentice open his mouth to speak while Spottedfeather applied cobwebs and poultices would've been counterproductive. The tortoiseshell she-cat shuddered, trying to catch her breath before speaking. Lionstar licked the metallic taste of his own blood off his muzzle, but allowed her to take her time - she was likely still shocked from the whole ordeal. "We were just out for a walk - really - and Demon attacked us! He went after Noblepaw first, and then I jumped in." Looking to TreeClan's leader with intent eyes, Duskpaw willed him to understand that this was all just a very unlucky situation - not the fault of any cat.
Lionstar wasn't entirely sure if he believed her, but that was for another time and place. Dipping his head in understanding, he allowed the little she-cat to rest against her friend, Duskpaw's eyes still transfixed on Noblepaw - which was fortunate, as she wasn't likely to fall asleep anytime soon. "Do you think you can make it back to camp, Noblepaw? Spottedfeather, do you have anything to give him for the pain?" Mewed the tawny-hued leader, Longstripe and Mintleaf, the two warriors on patrol with him, were milling around, awaiting orders. [atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Noblepaw He had to admit it; Noblepaw had not expected the ferocity with which Spottedfeather had retaliated. Of course, he had expected some form of reaction, but nothing like this. He had not known that the she-cat had had it in her, instead figuring that she had chosen to train and become a medicine cat because she did not have it in her. He had expected a polite little request instead of a hissed order. The sheer ferocity of her response made him pause and stare at her, while she glared right back with narrowed eyes. Does she not understand how hard it is to talk when someone decides to poke and prod your face? "I never said I wanted to die," The apprentice grumbled under his breath, having to say the last word. But he held still and let her apply the herbs to his face, cowed for now.
To Duskpaw, he added, "I feel like I got run over by a clan with their claws unseathed, but I'm fine. Honest." And he did. His body stung all over with little fires - which he could easily ignore due to the strength of the blaze on his face - and he felt trampled on. Suddenly, the apprentice had a lot more sympathy for the mice and voles that TreeClan caught for prey. Being hunted was not nearly as fun as doing the hunting. The challenges! Green eyes widened slightly and a look of horror crossed his features. Two thirds of TigerClan's team was here, bloodied and bruised. "Look, don't worry, Duskpaw," He hastened to reassure her. "TigerClan still stands a chance, even with the two of us in our less than prime conditions. We're still going to win this."
"You should sit down, at least," Noblepaw observed. "You're dead on your paws." When she turned to lean on Littlepaw for support, however, he could not quite bring himself to show gratitude to the smaller, younger apprentice. He may have just had his face mauled, but he did have standards. Until the she-cat met them, she did not deserve his gratitude. Opening his mouth, he started to address Spottedfeather, but as if sensing his unasked question, she answered it. Something fell in the pit of his stomach. He could barely move here; how could he make it back to camp? Lionstar asked him the same question, and he turned to look at the leader. No, he did not think that he could make it back to camp, and he did not want to try either. He wanted to stay out here and sleep. Sleep would make the pain go away, and he would wake up and find out that this was all a horrible nightmare that his mind had created. But if the alternative to walking back was being carried back, then yes, he could in fact walk back. Noblepaw's pride refused to let him be carried back like a kit that had misbehaved; the last time he had been carried around was when he couldn't walk. Hardening his resolve, he gave a nod to Lionstar.
And what about Duskpaw? She was worse off than he was, barely able to stand on her paws. Green eyes glanced in the direction of the tortoiseshell she-cat, wondering what she thought of it.
Littlepaw On the other side of Spottedfeather, Littlepaw braced herself as her denmate used her for support. Though the other apprentice was larger and heavier than she, the she-cat was determined to help in whatever way she could, even if that meant acting as Duskpaw's brace. She knew she could handle it, especially after what her denmates had been through. Had Demon attacked her, she imagined that she would have been an emotional wreck afterward, hysterical and uncontrollable. That is, if she was still alive by the end of the attack. Noblepaw was much more of a challenge than she was, Duskpaw too. And it looked as though the lynx had tossed both to the ground and stepped on them as if they had been leaves. Littlepaw felt a small shiver course through her. She did not want to meet this lynx. When focuse moved to heading back to camp, she turned slightly to look at Duskpaw. The apprentice did not look so good. "You can lean on me," Littlepaw offered quietly, "If you need help getting back to camp." | [CS=2] Words: 700 something Notes: -- | [CS=2] i am the closest thing to god so worship me and never stop [style=font-family: palatino linotype; text-transform: lowercase; text-align: center; font-size; 5px; margin-top: -20px;]credits: don't stop by innerpartysystem cat: here |

The TreeClan leader's eyes widened in slight surprise. Noblepaw was still thinking about the competition? He should be thinking about how long it's going to take him to recover. Perfectly aware that the gray and white cat would pitch a fit if he held the battle portion of the challenges without him, Lionstar silently already made the commitment to delay the TigerClan versus LionClan battle. Duskpaw had damaged ribs, Noblepaw... his face spoke for him, not to mention Dawnpaw was going to be distraught about her sister. It was best to just delay it until everyone was back at full steam. Ears flattening at Spottedfeather's cold lecturing, Lionstar forced his tongue to lie flat, a retort held between his clamped jaws like mouse in a hawk's talons. Letting it go, Lionstar stood up, turning to address Longstripe and Mintleaf.
"Longstripe, you and Littlepaw can help Duskpaw back to camp - carry her if you have to, but do so in a way that won't aggrivate her injuries - and keep her conscious." The last thing they needed was an apprentice passing out into a sleep of which she would never recover from. Turning to Noblepaw and Spottedfeather, Lionstar flicked his tail for Mintleaf to come over. "Mintleaf is going to help you get back to camp, Noblepaw - don't argue, this isn't about pride or weakness. Cooperate, and we can all get back to camp much sooner." The leader's amber eyes darted pointedly from Noblepaw's pain-filled, delirious green ones to the hazy, hunched form of Duskpaw, a clear indication that now was not a time for his pride to take front and center. He wasn't the only one injured here.
Duskpaw:
TigerClan still stands a chance, even with the two of us in our less than prime conditions. We're still going to win this.
Duskpaw's ears twitched in surprise, her tail falling behind her like dead weight. You're still on about that stupid competition? You mousebrain! The she-cat would've spit if she had the strength and the action itself wouldn't cause her great pain. Glancing gratefully to Littlepaw, she pressed her muzzle into the smaller cat's shoulder blade, a wordless thank you. Longstripe, a tall ginger warrior with bright ginger markings stepped to Duskpaw's other side, smiling at her gently. "If it's too much for you, Littlepaw, I can support her back to camp." Padding beside the two she-cats, he was like a long-legged ginger shadow, his narrow face half turned in their direction. Duskpaw summoned the strength to speak; "Am I too heavy for you?" Her words directed at Littlepaw, the she-cat took a misstep, but Longstripe had gently held her up by the scruff of her neck, lettng the tortoiseshell and white tabby steady herself. She looked at Duskpaw and did want for her to stay awake. She had things to make her stay awake only at her den. She was able to do better with the mr attitude noblepaw when he got her her den also. She glanced at her leader and let her body relax just a little bit but not a lot. Letting out a sigh she went back to noblepaw and touched him up a bit and thought, not so tough now with these scars on your face huh?. Finally looking him over she nodded to the apprentice and mewed, "Walk slow.. you better hope im there if they open up if you walk to fast.. I also need you to eat these. They will give you strength for a little bit until you get back to the den.'' Pushing a few little tiny herbs towards the apprentice. After that.. your mine. And your not leaving MY den until I give you the okay.. you will stay in your nest and only your nest. I see you out of it let alone the den or if anyone in the clan tells me you were out.. I will personally rank my claws down your face and open up your wounds again and let them bleed. Do you understand me?'' Not waiting for his answer Spottedfeather padded past her leader and she gave him a glance then followed Duskpaw on the way back to her den. [atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Noblepaw Really, he wished that the others would stop staring at him. Yes, he'd gotten his face slashed open by a lynx, but did that truly warrant every eye constantly on him? Staring would not heal him any quicker. Lionstar spoke, and irritation rose inside him at the words. But it was a tired irritation, easily quelled by the obvious message in the leader's eyes as he flicked his gaze over to Duskpaw. They needed to get back to camp, and the fastest way to do that was for him to accept Mintleaf's help. It wounded his pride more than he would care to admit, but he ground his teeth and accepted the verdict with nothing more than a stiff nod. It was for Duskpaw. She needed the help more than he did. Definitely.
While he nursed his stinging pride and adjusted to the idea of accepting help from the warrior, Noblepaw managed to convince himself that maybe the trip back would not be as bad as he had expected. Until Spottedfeather took it upon herself to intercede once more. Shoving herbs in his face and barking an order to eat them did not endear the medicine cat anymore to him. He did not care if his face was coated with plants, as long as he did not have to eat them. Without thinking, he made a face at the herbs, wincing slightly as it irritated his wounds. Spottedfeather continued speaking as he bent his proud head and nibbled on a leaf before shutting his eyes and swallowing the batch in one gulp. So disgusting.
Then he comprehended her words. Green eyes flew open in outrage and he could feel the fur on his spine bristling slightly. He would not be ordered around or threatened like that. He would not be forced to endure her constant worry and company for an undetermined amount of time. And most of all, he would not be confined to his nest with no way of practicing his fighting moves. Did Spottedfeather not realize how close the fighting challenge was? How important it was to stay in shape, keep his reflexes fine-tuned? Then she just walked right by him without waiting for an answer! Gaping, he turned to look at Duskpaw. "Did you just hear that?" He asked, falling back to walk with her. "She can't tell me what do to like that."
Littlepaw Her small head nodded to Lionstar, completely serious, before turning to Longstripe. "I'm fine," She reassured him, her voice quiet but firm. It took a little getting used to, but once they were in motion, she became more comfortable and accustomed to balancing Duskpaw on her shoulder. "No, don't worry about it," Littlepaw addressed the she-cat this time, pausing with her as she misstepped. They would get back to camp, even if it took all afternoon.

Duskpaw's listless appearance lessened into slightly sharper focus at the approach of Noblepaw, the scent of his blood filling his nostrils like a poison, making a lump harden like a coal trying to turn itself into a diamond in the center of her throat. Oh Noblepaw. Though she was fully aware of the other apprentice's words, she took a moment to gently touch his shoulder with her muzzle, murmuring for Noblepaw's ears only. "I'm glad you're alive. That was...really awful. Awful." She didn't need to explain it to him, he'd been there, he'd stared into the outstretched maw of Demon as he bent his head to devour him. He'd seen perhaps even better than she, how terrifying being at the mercy of fate could truly be. While the two apprentices had a moment, Longstripe had the good sense to put a little bit of distance between them - hovering close by, but not so close that it felt as though he was eavesdropping on an intimate moment.
Lionstar: Usually content to walk in silence, Noblepaw's condition had the golden leader's mind whirring, a twinge of worry felt for the status of the young, headstrong apprentice's face. "There's going to be a great deal of scarring, isn't there?" mewed Lionstar in a low voice, matching Spottedfeather step for step. Despite having two injured cats to walk with, the patrol was making good time, and thus some of the worry had faded as he basked in the security that came with returning to TreeClan's camp. Already he could see the cats that had gone out at dawn to hunt coming home with this jaws full of fresh kill and the golden, red and orange leaves rustling against their paws as they went. A few glanced their way, Lionstar's whiskers twitching in surprise when he nearly bumped into Gorgeclaw, his one good eye rolling into a look of hostility at nearly being stepped on - before Lionstar's new status settled into effect, and Gorgeclaw dipped his head in apology. Lionstar, more embarrassed than he should've felt, watched the senior warrior walk away with a hitch in his step, the aged cat obviously not a huge fan of having such a young leader at the helm of TreeClan, but his loyalty and sense of duty to the Clan kept him polite. Well, most of the time. But that was something else to deal with at a later date. Right now his focus was getting the two battered and bloodied apprentices to a place where they could rest. Allowing Spottedfeather to lead the way to her den, Lionstar slowed his steps to walk beside Longstripe, the skinny ginger spotted warrior smiling at him pleasantly.
