When your tears are spent on your last pretense
And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defense.

Smallshine
High in the tree-tops sunlight flickered through the leaf cover warming a lone she-cat's dark gray fur. Her tiny body moved gracefully along the branches of her tree-top world. A happy smile was radiant on the felines face as she leaped and sprang, dancing effortlessly through the trees, high above the forest floor. She loved this forest it always made her feel so secure to be so high off the ground. The greenery made her feel at home she couldn't fathom how Stoneclan stood it being surrounded by stone all the time. Here she was unbound by gravity and free from harm, way above the tangled growth of the earth below. Running swiftly along a particularly springy branch the acrobatic she-cat pushed on the branch hard with her fore-paws causing it to bend drastically. She hurried forward as it began to rebound, then using the combined energy of the elastic branch and her own well toned muscles she was thrown ever higher into the sky. Using her long tail like a rudder she steered her flight path slightly to direct her to the next moss covered tree. Unsheathing her long hooked claws the strange little she-cat caught the bark and anchored herself firmly against the tree.[/size]
Pausing, still clung to the tree's damp smelling bark she waits to catch her breath. Gazing around with huge cerulean eyes she soon spies a squirrel dozing unaware on a branch of a nearby tree. Using her strong upper body strength the stormy colored she-cat shimmies down and skips out onto a thick branch. Dark skinned nose sniffing delicately she confirms that she is up wind of her intended prey. Slithering out on the end of the branch she hops lightly onto the adjacent tree making barely a whisper of noise. She moves slowly now making almost jerky movements as she stalks closer to the still oblivious squirrel. In position just over the bushy tailed mammal she makes her move. Springing off her leafy perch she dives down onto the furry creature and dispatches its life in a silent flurry of teeth and claws. Her long tail lashes wildly as she struggles to maintain her balance on the wobbling branch and keep ahold of her fresh-kill at the same time. As the stick underpaw finally stills the she-cat wiggles her entire body in a adorable show of utter happiness.
Nothing brought Smallshine more joy than catching squirrels to feed her clan. Carrying her catch to the point where the branch meets the trunk she firmly wedges the still warm carcass into the fork to pick up later. Closer to the Treeclan camp a bird is also wedged in a tree branch in the self-same way, another of Smallshine's kills. The deputy turns her attention towards the forest floor now. Having caught plenty of fresh-kill already today she aims to satisfy her curiosity. Earlier while near the border a faint breeze had brought her the scent of cats. Racing through the tree-tops she returns to where she first scented the other clan cat. Her sharp eyesight catches the subtle broken branches and reveals a trail leading her on a adrenaline filled hunt through the forest along the border. Before long the trail turns off angling inwards toward the heart of Nightclan territory. The small she-cats dark gray tail droops slightly. She wanted to see a Nightclan cat even if it was from across the border. The other clan fascinated her, in a strictly business sort of way. They were so different from the Treeclan warriors she wondered why they were so hostile. It wasn't like she had ever done anything to anger them but even at gatherings they were cold towards her. Balancing out on a thick tree branch the she-cat settles into a comfortable sitting position. Her tail waving below her slowly. Her ears perked but her eyes half closed she enjoys the warm afternoon sunshine that was becoming increasingly rare as the seasons began to change. As a lone cat and a small one at that she hoped that she wasn't perceived as a threat by lounging just a few tail lengths inside the Treeclan/Nightclan border.
