The first training session had NOT gone well. What in Starclan’s name had Whitestar been thinking, pairing him up with Coyotepaw? And right after making him deputy no less! Was it to keep him humble? Did he not want Cloudtail to get too comfortable in his new position so he thought ‘let’s give him Coyotepaw as an apprentice, that will keep him busy’?

The toms’ blue eyes were cold with fury as he padded towards the leader’s den, his pelt bristling and his ears pinned back. Any-cat who knew Cloudtail knew that when he got like this, something had bothered him terribly, and he was about to make it some-cat’s problem.

“Whitestar!”



He barely waited for an invitation to enter before stomping in, “That apprentice of mine—he is…he’s--!” Cloudtail hissed, “Impossible to train! Never before in my many moons of training apprentices have I come across one so infuriating as him. He has no respect for the warrior code, he thinks borders are invisible, and when I confronted him about his behavior, he practically told me I should be grateful he showed up to training! He said that if he didn’t think the lessons were important he wouldn’t come to them. How am I supposed to train a kit who thinks he knows better? Whitestar, I don’t think Coyotepaw was ready to be apprenticed. I don’t know if he’ll ever be!”



The white tom paced anxiously. Despite his anger, or perhaps because of it, it was clear that he was worried about the young apprentice. “When he talks he sounds like he believes that the rules don’t apply to him. I’m worried he’s going to be reckless, and not just in a ‘young apprentice’ sort of way. Has Ebonyheart seen to him? I swear there is something wrong with that kit.” He stopped his pacing and turned to Whitestar, eyes wide as though coming to a sudden realization, “I don’t know what to do with him. I just don’t know. I’ve never been so baffled. What am I supposed to do with an apprentice like this? How can I transform him into a productive member of the clan?”
