When the time had come for Berrypaw's warrior assessment, Cloverstar had no doubt the nature of the results Crowstalker and Koisplash returned to her with. She was her daughter, after all. Dogpaw and Azaleapaw had not yet been assessed, and as much as she loved her other daughters, she thought it foolish to make Berrypaw wait until her sisters were ready in order to receive her warrior name. She'd trained hard and shown she was ready now, so now was when she'd receive her name.
In fact, as soon as the report had made its way back to her that Berrypaw had passed, she'd decided there was no point in even putting off the ceremony a few days or hours. Her Clan was active day and night, so it didn't matter whether she performed a ceremony under the stars or under the afternoon sun. Climbing the rocks toward her usual post, Cloverstar called out to the Clan: "All cats who hunt among the mist, gather here beneath the Lichen Ledge!"
It took a little longer for cats to gather, as it looked like a patrol had been about to go out, but they paused their activities to witness the ceremony. I'd have their tails if they didn't, she thought with a flash of smugness, observing the crowd spread out below. If they thought she was treating Berrypaw with any favoritism, they wouldn't be wrong. She was the Clan leader, and Berrypaw was her daughter. Berrypaw had risen to meet Cloverstar's high expectations. Of course she was going to treat her differently.
"Berrypaw, come forward," she told the dark-furred she-cat. "Crowstalker tells me you passed your assessment. You've worked hard these past moons - it's plain to see you're more than ready to become a warrior." She locked eyes with Berrypaw, her green eyes gleaming. "I, Cloverstar, leader of MistClan, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of a Clan warrior and the code we follow - I now commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Berrypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
More and more lately, the words of tradition seemed empty of meaning - the only things that mattered were Clan loyalty and a vague belief in something greater than yourself, whether it was StarClan or karma or something else entirely. Whether Berrypaw meant it when she said, "I do" wasn't something that mattered to Cloverstar. The only thing she needed from her was love and loyalty to her.
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Berrypw, from this moment on you will be known as Berryfrost. StarClan honors your keen intelligence, dedication, and focus, and we - I - welcome you as a full warrior of MistClan."
Cloverstar leaped down from the ledge and purred as she pressed her muzzle against her daughter's cheek to murmur in her ear, "You have made me very proud today." Her muzzle glided to the top of her head to rest there as tradition demanded, allowing the moment to linger a few heartbeats longer than the normal ceremony, before stepping back to join in the chanting of the new warrior's name. "Berryfrost! Berryfrost!"

i find it very, very easy to be true
i find myself alone when each day is through
yes, i'll admit that i'm a fool for you
because you're mine...
