Lionheart emerged form the warrior's den fairly early in the morning. The large tom giving a long stretch of his body, sliding his paws forward and arching his back. Feeling a satisfying crack in his bones, he comes back to a standing position. As he scans the clearing he can see that one of the morning patrols was just making their way out of camp. No doubt heading to freshen up the border markings and check for any intruders. That was the usual patrols that left this early. While he had debated on tagging along to the borders with his apprentice, he had chosen a much more taxing sort of training for today. Battle training. Something that every young cat needed practice at or they would risk getting themselves hurt or worse in the event of a battle ensuing. He needed to be sure that his apprentice had what it took to take on another cat of any size. So he had made plans to head to his favorite spot to practice, Elder's Wood.
Elder's Wood was a nice sheltered area of the woods blanketed heavily by moss and other foliage. It would make the perfect location for them to practice and not have to worry about landing on rocks or hard surfaces that could cause damage. That and it would give many places to hide and use to one's advantage if the situation presented itself. Normally Lionheart would spend his time there doing more peaceful things like listening to the sounds of the woods to calm his mind. But today he would have to disturb the overall peace there to get his apprentice into shape.
The large tom makes his way to the apprentice's den, where no doubt most of them still slumbered. "Cardinalpaw." He calls in, hoping not to disturb anyone. "Elder's Wood." Is all he called in next, short and simple. The tom found no reason to use many words here, wanting to get started quickly. With this, he heads for the entrance of the camp. With a nod to the warrior posted on watch, he treks out towards the location, not checking if Cardinalpaw bothered to get up. She would learn that he didn't enjoy playing around if she did not.
Lionheart soon finds himself in the thick green wood that he so loved. The sun barely peeking through the thick roof of leaves and branches overhead. He smiles and makes his way to the very spot he enjoyed just relaxing. He sits himself down facing the direction he had came, his tail tucked over his paws. Now it was a waiting game to see if the she-cat would join him this early morning.

Cardinalpaw had recently been assigned her mentor, Lionheart, someone who appeared to have similar characteristics to herself. She often questioned the leader's choice when presenting apprentices with their mentors. Did they purposely analyze their warriors to depict the best fitting choice for the apprentice? The thoughts seemed logical enough to the mademoiselle. She hadn't been nearly as enthusiastic as her siblings or the other kits, expressing her disregard for participating. However, she knew being born into clan life wasn't like any life beyond this lifestyle, considering loners roamed with the utmost freedom. Or at least, that's what she assumed; she hadn't quite greeted any loners, as much as she'd love to. The damsel desired to snake away from camp to explore the motherland beyond the territories. Although, she believed that her contemplation felt merely impossible since the Clans were restricted to their perimeters. The young apprentice had been in a light slumber, awaiting for her first session to begin. Upon hearing familiar vocals calling her name, the apprentice's auditories flicked, and her crania perked upright toward the sound. She blinked for a moment, squinted eyes peering in his direction as he shifted to leave camp. Cardinalpaw's olive-pigmented visage scrutinized the beams entering through the den, a yawn departing her maxilla from her mandible, flashing pearly white incisors. [break][break]
With a quick jostle of her cranium, she dubiously hoisted her lissome physique, rear prolonging up as her frontals extended forward. It didn't take long for the she-cat to awaken, visionaries flaring wide with shimmering mischief. What could she get herself into today? The diminutive apprentice weaved around the sleeping statures, slipping out from the apprentice's den as she trotted after Lionheart. It wasn't long until she trailed through Elder's Wood, embracing the nature amidst her, where she greeted her mentor. "Good morning, Lionheart," Her placid, apathetic vocalizations uttered, gaze averting toward his facade. "I am interested to see how you work." The mademoiselle snickered, feathery tail swishing from side to side, radiating morale. He seems very... hushed and straightforward. Lionheart doesn't wish to wait on others; he's more down to business. Already, Cardinalpaw was picking apart her mentor, mind meandering of the kind of tomcat he'd been. The forest felt like her luminosity and ambiance, the profound brown earth that elevated each step with its ever-giving soul. There's something magical about it. [break][break]
Numerous trees were gnarled by the years with heaven-bound limbs dancing in the air. Underfoot is nature's compost, the leaves never swept but giving their nutrients to feed the soil, the roots, and the canopy above. And always there is the sound of water, the laughing water. "Was that a test? Did you expect me to be late? You're in for a fun time, Lionheart." She teased, cocking an eyebrow as she gazed at him. "You'll never have to deal with incompetence; that's the last thing I'd be concerned about." She stated, settling amongst her haunches in front of Lionheart, waiting for his instructions or lecture to begin. What's he thinking about?[break][break]

Lionheart watched expectantly as Cardinalpaw made her way into Elder's Wood shortly after he had. She seemed in rare form, her eyes not drooping with sleep or her posture slouched from not being fully awake. She was alert and seemed anxious to get the show on the road. The typical apprentice would probably be whining about getting up so early but this she-cat was totally unbothered. The tom eyed her curiously, still learning about this new apprentice of his. She was already proving to be different from the average youngster so the tom was intrigued to see how she handled battle.
"I am interested to see how you work."
Lionheart froze at this comment from the light molly. She was interested in seeing how he worked? This training was not meant for her to learn all about him. While sure he was her opponent for the day, the training was for her to be able read any opponent. So he wasn't totally sure how to take that particular comment. "Then I guess it's a good thing that learning about me is not a lesson." Lionheart meowed in an apathetic sort of manner. If the she-cat was hoping to get a story time all about his life or a big introduction about himself, she would be extremely disappointed. The cream colored tom was not known for being social and he had no intention of changing that for anyone let alone her. He was here to train her to be a good warrior for their clan not to be her friend.
"I did not doubt your ability but thank you for that reassurance." He answers as she goes on as though he thought she'd be late. Saying that she was not incompetent compared to others. He had not once thought that this she-cat would be late nor did he quite honestly care if she had milled around for longer than she should. The clan would look down upon her in the event this would happen just starting out, not him. If she valued her own reputation and genuinely wanted to learn, he knew she would show up. Any cat with half a brain would have enough sense to get where they were told.
Pale yellow eyes stared down the she-cat for a moment, exploring her light colored bod to see what sort of muscle she might boast. He wasn't quite sure how he wanted to handle this lesson being that he was much larger than herself. The tom gets to his feet and walks away from her, placing a fox-length or so between them. He then turns to face her once more, creating like a stage for the two to face off.
"This is going to be a lesson in fighting. I could go on and on about being careful and watching your opponent's moves but I feel that would be boring for you. I instead want you to make the first moves and decide where this goes. I am your opponent, double your size. With little experience outside of watching kits play fight, I want to see what you do and then we will go on from there." The tom spread his paws apart to balance out his weight to each leg, bracing in the event the she-cat might take a forward approach and charge at him. She had shown herself to be quite clever with her words thus far so he wanted to test this by letting her make the calls first.

There was, without a doubt, Cardinalpaw was anticipating today's lesson, as it was her first. The youthful molly desired to create the impression that she wished to become a dutiful warrior, although she wasn't entirely sure where she stood. She reminisced a few of her opposing, acquainted apprentices known for complaining when awakened early for training, but she refused to be one of them. As much as she'd love to throw a fuss, Cardinalpaw didn't want a bad reputation, despite her troublesome spirit as is. During sessions, she disciplined herself enough to remain concentrated, prohibiting her visage and mentality from trailing elsewhere. There was no need to reminisce since she believed it was a time to be in the moment, ready to fire. Like any young cat, she was curious about the world around her but more immersed in the creatures within it, effused about performing at Lionheart's flank. Despite her inquisitive nature, Cardinalpaw recognized when it was acceptable to give in to those impulses or altogether avoid them. When Lionheart struggled to assemble his response, a crooked simper tugged at the corners of her maw; her olive-green visage narrowed as she awaited. [break][break]
Auditories swiveled at his response, cranium tilting slightly to the right as she raised her crown to meet his intense gaze. What a strange answer, or maybe, what I said was weird. A feeble array of sheepish chuckles escaped Cardinalpaw's mandibles, "Yeah, I guess so." She awkwardly vocalized, feathery tail coiling before her frontal foundations, keeping her sharp stare upon her mentor. It was clear to Cardinalpaw that her mentor didn't prefer to converse with others and deemed him as a silent type. The she-cat wasn't very keen about Whitestar's decision now that she stood with the larger feline. What if I ruffle his fur a bit? Cardinalpaw pondered, ears pinning against her crania as she jostled her head in defense of her thoughts. No, that'd be bad. Behave. Cardinalpaw reminded herself that she must get through these lectures and physical lessons, assuming she couldn't possibly become a warrior if she spent her time stressing out her mentor. "Well then, that's good to hear. I guess I shouldn't make assumptions." She murmured, primarily to herself. Her vocals might have been nearly inaudible for Lionheart to comprehend what she enunciated. Cardinalpaw wasn't entirely sure what to say next, as her mind churned with too much to say. [break][break]
Cardinalpaw hadn't often participated in play fights with her siblings, nor did she care even to monitor their movement and decisions. Unfortunately, she hadn't been intrigued by such, more curious about the Medicine Cat's lifestyle. She assumed it was a problematic task but preferred envisioning herself in that position rather than as a warrior. Standing across from her stood Lionheart, and his shadow loomed over her more diminutive stature. "I will do my best." She uttered softly, talons seizing into the terrain beneath her tufted foundations. Olive-green eyes scrutinized her competitor, halting the movement of her eyes as she concentrated. She didn't want to look where she desired to attack, believing anyone with perspicuity would identify her eye movement, foreshadowing her next move. The tawny she-cat lowered her embodiment slightly, lunging forward with powerful, athletic legs. She extended her frontal appendages, attempting to force him into a pin. Unfortunately, she seriously underestimated the tom's bulk, bouncing off Lionheart's chest, plopping back onto her rear with a huff. "Quite frankly, Lionheart, I never even indulged with the other playful kits. I don't know much other than picking my clanmates apart with my brain." She admitted, rather casually, gaze falling to her paws as her ears pinned back amongst her cranium.

Lionheart stood across the clearing, watching the young she-cat. She didn't seem overly sure of herself as she faced him. The nervous look on her face giving away that she wasn't entirely sure how to handle this situation. Being against a larger opponent was definitely a daunting task in itself but he had hoped she'd at least give it a good try. Even a failed attempt at attacking him was a learning experience for her so he hoped she wouldn't just give in. That's when she takes up a certain stance and she suddenly rushes forward at him. Her charge is less than successful as she plops backwards and lands on her rear from the impact with his bulky chest.
"I will give you a bit of advice on larger opponents. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. If you can find a way to knock us off balance, we do not have the means to recover quickly. It usually takes a minute to right ourselves again with our bulky size, giving smaller cats the perfect opportunity to come at us before we get up again." He says, hoping to shed some light on cats such as himself. Size and strength were useful in their own right but the lack of speed proved an issue when you faced smaller opponents.
"Here. Let's try this again but rather than charge me from the front, I want you to take a different direction. Try to swipe at one of my legs and knock me off my paws. Getting us bigger cats down to the ground is a good advantage to take in a fight." The tom then braces himself, paws spread in a way that she should be able to pull off some sort of move. Even without watching other kits playing, he was sure this she-cat had the means to do this. He had faith in her clever brain and her agility.
