kotik (he/him) | loner When he was younger, fresh water was not always a guarantee. Often, any pools of water that were to be found could easily have been contaminated, or dirty at the very least. The water that was found in between various cobblestones that lined the lyudi's paths and dens could often make a cat sick, due to something unforeseen, and it made many cats wary of any water they could find. Unfortunately, such behaviour around water could lead to dehydration, and cause a cat to hallucinate.
The best days were the days after it rained. A downpour was a great sign that fresh water would soon be available, dripping from the pipes that lined the tops of the lyudi's dens. Even the most desperate of cats would drink from puddles in the following days, but the best were the streams that ran down the sides of the dens, pooling at the bottom along the stones. They would rush out like tiny rivers, and cats would happily crowd around, lapping up at the sign of fresh water. When cats were lucky, you could even find lyudi keep bowls of water outside of their dens. Though it was never as good as fresh rain water, it was always a welcome sign to get any water that was practically a guarantee not to get one sick. It still didn't mean you couldn't be wary - there were tales of lyudi who would dream of hurting any loners that lived in the streets, poisoning the bowls of water they kept by the entrance to their dens.
Yet, in a way, there were still days that Kotik missed his old home. He longed for the days he curled up by his mother's stomach, drinking in her warm scent, curled up next to his sister. They were happy, the three of them together. Some days were harder than others, and food was never a guarantee, but when the three of them cuddled together even on the hardest or coldest days, there was a feeling that everything would be okay. Tomorrow would be a new day to try again - and try again they would.
There were great things about this valley that Kotik had come along in his journey. Not too many moons ago, he had escaped from a lyudi's den. He knew that his birth home was too far for him to ever return to, but there had always been an itching feeling in his paws that he could one day find his sister. He had journeyed for quite some time before arriving in the valley, where he had come across many other cats living in large groups. While he remembered the odd rogue group as a kitten, they did not have the same feeling as these groups did. Knowing that there would still be a great journey before he could find his sister, Kotik allowed himself some rest here in this valley - a bit of time to relax, to catch his own prey, and to drink happily at the fresh water he longed for as a kit. Maybe when he and his sister reunited, they could come back and live here - there were many places that they could shelter and relive their youth. Well, maybe not totally relive their youth, given that the cobblestone streets no longer surrounded them, but they could enjoy each other's warmth and embrace and be a family once again.
Fishing though? That was a whole other ordeal. Kotik had certainly tasted fish before - he remembered when the cobblestone streets were lined with lyudi and their tiny huts, trading with other lyudi for what seemed to be tiny shiny stones in return for things like food and nesting materials. Some of the kinder ones would allow Kotik and Malyshka to have some fish if they looked cute enough - which, they always did! But when Kotik looked into the water below him, lapping up some of the fresh water with his tongue and savouring it, he noticed the odd fish below him. He'd never seen them move like this before. He tried to strike out a paw, but found himself hopeless in his attempts. He sat up again, stretching his shoulders back and letting out a yawn. It wasn't as though he were starving at the moment, but it would be interesting to see if he were able to scoop out a fish for later enjoyment. Gemini / koisplash ● 743 words

[attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] The mademoiselle's luminous, lively sea-green visage flickered as she scrutinized her surroundings, a warm smile plastered amidst her countenance. A faint purr reverberated in her throat; the purrs were so airy and delicate that someone would probably be coddled up in a den or nest to hear. Many things were churning the damsel's mind, feathery tail hoisted in confidence as she strutted through the glaucous coniferous forest. She was flabbergasted that she'd been selected as the Deputy of MistClan, gaze glistening with exuberance, questioning how such a dream came true. Well, not entirely, but it was half true, merely because she dreamed of becoming the leader of MistClan someday. Koisplash's ears turned outwards, listening to the sound of birdsong, to all the diverse species' distinctive vocals. Their numerous sing-songs harmonized as the music flowed through the deputy's ears. She believed dismissing herself from camp wouldn't harm her, as she'd sent out a patrol prior. She proclaimed she would sweep through the territory thoroughly on her lonesome to conclude. There were many other felines Cloverstar could've chosen, but she'd chosen the youthful, ambitious Koisplash, who possessed her way of accomplishing things.
Koisplash's mind trailed, wishing the night would come quicker. The day is growing old, and the hearth calls; the sun sinks will sink beneath the tops of the pines in a few hours—the light streaks through the boughs in brilliant and shadowy beams. During Greenleaf, they were white gold, illuminating the greens into virescent riots; yet the gift of those warm days has passed for the season. On these wintry days, the fogs cast those identical beams of light into sepia tones, and the woodland becomes the most beautiful of portrayals. The trunks of descended trees bare icicles longer than a tail-length, no two of them the same - more enchanting than any feline. Every twig and blade of grass grows winter "leaves" of ice crystals, frost deeper than the fleece in my gloves. And never is the woodland silent, though it is quieter than any city street. There are the birds overhead, crying, needling for grubs. There is the movement of a few mammals, primarily diminutive, periodically not. There was the water that flowed until it met the sharp rocky scree slopes and formed the streams she loved so much. The water, in general, the mademoiselle couldn't help but cherish. The feeling of plunging into a chilled, diaphanous liquid alleviated her on the most stressful days.
Cold water was the most efficient thief of heat, she understood. It took what it did not demand. She recalled the water beneath her paws would be as icy when she would descend into the waters. Before even a digit is submerged, her skin rippling with goosebumps, pointless as they are. The water surges around my thick, velutinous pelage, ascending to her sides. The weight of the water was nearly enough to topple her, the current adequate to take her far downstream. The strength within her legs powered her through any water she attempted to conquer. However, she had yet to endeavor to swim in the ocean. Koisplash pondered for a moment, envisioning her moments visiting Crayfish Beach, those heaving waves that crash onto the beach. It can't be easy. She couldn't help but wonder if it was even physically achievable for a feline to swim in such mighty currents. The damsel progressed into the Willowroot Labyrinth, quickly scanning amidst herself as she inhaled softly. Her fur bristled upon her intuition, harboring an ill-feeling that someone had betrayed the perimeters. There's a feline here, but it's not someone of an opposing Clan.
Questioning herself, Koisplash ambulated forward, trailing after the aroma of what appeared to be a rogue or loner. She was relieved that it wasn't an individual serving under one of the other two Clans. She wouldn't hesitate to squabble with another warrior to protect her Clan. Regarding her promotion from warrior to the deputy, she assumed she would need to make more rational decisions and swallow her impulses. The she-cat's fur relaxed, hindering her pace as she neared the individual, identifying him as a loner. She hadn't recognized the tom, lowering her lissom physique toward the terra firma, moving forward with gentle, unhurried steps. She observed the bachelor, who appeared intrigued by the fish below the surface, watching as he struck a foundation into the water. An amused giggle erupted from Koisplash's maw, immediately revealing her location from the sedges. "You know, normally I would be questioning you and bombarding you as a trespasser," Koisplash mused, furrowing her brows, "But, you've piqued my interest. There are a few dynamics involved in fishing, there, uh--" Koisplash paused, auditories flattening amongst her crania. "Would you mind introducing yourself? I'm Koisplash, deputy of MistClan." A sheepish simper danced across her facade, such an excellent title. It sounds even better out loud.

kotik (he/him) | loner Yellow eyes gazed up, flashing guilt to the cat who had spoken. "Trespassing?" he repeated, his ears flattening with embarrassment for a moment. He always seemed useless at remembering when lands belonged to other cats - it was never quite like that when he was young. Or rather, if cats did claim to own land, it was usually just a small amount around a den where they enjoyed sleeping, rather than claiming large sweeping areas of a valley. Kotik looked around him, trying to understand how they could claim to own so much land - what if other cats needed to eat? Surely they wouldn't let friends go hungry, would they? "I am sorry, I do not mean to trespass."
He had an odd way of speaking, an accent heavy on his voice. His Slavic accent was bold and strong, but his tone of voice was still light and inviting. Soon enough, he realized that he had been asked a question, though he allowed Koisplash's words to flow over him a moment. "Deputy..." he repeated softly, trying to understand what this meant. He knew some of the groups held hierarchies, perhaps this was another role within it? His ear twitched with curiosity, as he looked over the calico in front of him. She seemed hardly older than himself, and he knew that some of the cats in the valley seemed to live to greater ages than they did on the streets. Perhaps this position of deputy was similar to how the mountain cats split their adult cats into different groups - some were meant to hunt, and others meant to fight? Or maybe it was like when he met young Ravenpaw, who told him about medicine cats holding a special place within their Clans?
"I am called Kotik," he introduced. In reality, kotik wasn't really much of a name - it was more of a word, but that's just what his mother used to call him when he was a kit, "My little kotik..." he heard her sweet purr, so he simply adopted it as a part of his identity, since these valley cats seemed so concerned over names. He looked back down into the water below him, "You say you know how to catch the fish?" he asked, tilting his head as he watched them swim below, far out of reach. Kotik crouched down once more, his nose almost touching the surface of the water, suddenly feeling almost distracted looking into it. He could hardly believe how clear the water was, how fresh it was, and the fact that it was always here for cats to drink from. How nice it must be to never worry about going thirsty, he imagined, almost forgetting that Koisplash was near him. Gemini / koisplash ● 471 words

[attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] The tom immediately expressed a tone of inquiry within himself after the MistClan deputy had stated the word trespasser. The damsel felt bewildered, questioning why the bachelor had appeared confused himself by the statement. She furrowed her brows more, merely squinting as she scrutinized him, wondering why he had such a strange slur in his vocalizations. Of course, anyone would recognize this as an accent, but the mademoiselle had zero clue. She hadn't heard something so distinct before, intrigued by the vocals escaping his maw. Suddenly, her countenance twisted into an expression of amazement with wide visionaries. Watching the other's facade shift was certainly amusing Koisplash, as she'd always been interested in how others portrayed themselves, hence why she was remarkably fervent. The tomcat didn't occur to be born in the vale, nor after the Earthquake and vamoose to another region of the motherland. His flow in his tone was much different than any she'd heard, a small smile dancing across her maw. She couldn't help but regard her fascination for his distinguishing voice. "It doesn't seem you know better, and that's okay." Koisplash chuckled, auditories flickering as a zephyr tugged at her dense, velutinous pelage.
"Yes, the deputy..." Koisplash's lively tone diminished as her voice trailed off, blinking for a moment as she scanned over him once more. It is evident that she looked him up and down to anyone's eye, "Do you know about the Clans? I wouldn't mind telling you some information to protect you-- some warriors are more aggressive than others. I'd be more careful." She didn't want someone she deemed naive to be the victim of one of the Clan's aggressors. She generally was one of those aggressors, though, only if vital. The loner displayed himself as genuinely welcoming, bearing open paws to anyone who crossed his path. The damsel didn't need to initiate a quarrel, believing she could escort him away from the territory with an unadorned warning. Her glistening visage flickered toward the water, listening as the bachelor mentioned his name. Koisplash nodded in acknowledgment, then responded, "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Kotik." She proposed a cheeky grin, permitting the bachelor's irregular, notable name to easily roll off her tongue. It was such a compelling name, perhaps from another culture.
"I do know how to catch the fish; I know them very well!" She chimed, a soft purr rumbling in her throat for merely a few seconds. She enjoyed swimming with the creatures of the water below her toes, showing no fear of what may lie deeper below. She assumed that some felines despised the water because of the deepness and the fact that one couldn't see the bottom in abysmal waters. Or, they loathed feeling the heftiness of water drenching each strand of fur. Koisplash's gaze averted toward Kotik, who'd also been distracted by the water. "I find the water lovely, myself." She remarked, crania tilting slightly. Koisplash took a few steps closer, about a tail-length from Kotik's flank. She looked into the shallow crystalline liquid, admiring the scaly yet slippery fish within. "I noticed you just went for it. It requires more patience, and you must understand your own shadow. Part of the reason the fish quicker is that they acknowledge your shadow first." She explained, vocals relaxing as she went into mentor mode.

kotik (he/him) | loner Kotik listened carefully to Koisplash as she spoke - as she mentioned her enjoyment of the water, he suddenly realized her etiquette around the pool that they found themselves near. While Kotik found himself carefully balancing on the entanglement of roots, hanging above the water, the she-cat seemed calm and patient. As she moved closer, he could even smell a scent of fish on her, and wondered if the smell came from her diet or came from her exercise habits. He looked down once more, tilting his head and wondering why any cat would actively choose to swim - the idea of his fur hanging heavily on his sides seemed unpleasant enough, but he couldn't imagine how heavy it might be on the calico in front of him, whose fur seemed much longer and thicker than his own.
He purred about her kindness though when she brought up her worry around his knowledge of the Clans. Kotik gave a light bow of his head a moment, "I have met others - young Ravenpaw and kind Tigerstride of GaleClan," his tail flickered behind him with a fondness towards the GaleClan cats he'd met. He could already tell a stark difference now, upon meeting Koisplash, between the two Clans he'd come to meet cats from - primarily with their scents above anything else. Though, he could also tell some difference in their physique of the cats who seemed to enjoy the open spaces in comparison to the cat in front of him who had no fear of water. "Please, do not worry yourself of me - I have taken care long and far for myself. I know not to enter another monastery with my own rulebook, as my mother once said." his voice curled with a kind purr as he looked down into the waters once more, leaning down as his shadow flicked over the surface.
He narrowed his yellow gaze at the fish below as they scattered the closer he got to the surface. Kotik tilted his head a moment, "How does one rid of their shadow?" he asked aloud when Koisplash brought up the fact that the fish had noticed his shadow. Was a shadow not part of the cat themselves? Even the fish had shadows, far below them on the bed of the pool. The trees, the rocks, the brambles - everything had a shadow, so how was one supposed to control it when it had no real feeling? It wasn't like a tail, Kotik could feel his tail and control the way it moved, but his shadow seemed to move with him rather than by his own choice of movements. It certainly wouldn't be a lack of patience from Kotik - he felt as though he had more time than he knew what to do with, and it wasn't as though he were starving here in this valley. He'd been able to feed himself without worry - the idea of catching fish was just a new experience. Gemini / koisplash ● 499 words

[attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] Koisplash cherished the Willowroot Labyrinth, as she harbored the habit of slipping from camp to do the things she enjoyed most; fishing and swimming. The mademoiselle was enterprising, assuring her duties were complete and accomplished with success and the best of her efforts. Her faint aroma of fish was presumably due to her diet, as she preferred to stick to a particular diet. When Leafbare came around, the frozen waters made it challenging for her to continue her preference for those quick slippery, lustrous creatures. She wondered how the fish felt, living underneath the surface; she envisioned it was amazing beneath, with a much different scenery than above land. Sure, she opened her visage underwater, but it hadn't been the best quality image in her gaze. It was muddied, and she floundered to see clearly, believing that they could see clearly. She hadn't bumbled since the first time she ever got into the water, bewildered at how others often drowned in the waters or nearly drowned. Drowning is a horrendous way to go. One's body surges with panic, dread, and more hysteria. At least when she'd seen others in those circumstances. Perhaps some already believe they're dead or about to diminish from existence from the earth to the abysm overhead. StarClan.
When she heard the name of two GaleClanners, her nose crinkled, though her countenance quickly returned to a delighted look, attempting to shake her pessimistic thoughts. The loner's vocalizations appeared to express fondness for the two GaleClan warriors. "I'm sure they offered some good advice or simply displayed their kindness." The damsel half-murmured, her tail flicking to coil around her embodiment. "I suppose if you say so, Kotik. I just figured I'd warn you, in case you weren't conscious." She chimed, glee shimmering within her pulchritudinous visage. She was lowered onto the roots of the willow trees, locating herself beneath the shadows of the trees. Her smile reciprocated on her facade, tugging gently at the corners of her maw as she gazed into the crystalline liquid beneath them. Watching as Kotik's shadow elongated across the surface, the fish scattered and winded up closer beneath Koisplash. The damsel shifted her gaze toward Kotik; she lowered her voice to a delicate whisper. "Come closer to me, or on the opposing side. I am sure you're aware of the trees around us." She glimpsed up toward the towering willows. "Utilize their shadows to cover your own. Find the darkest shadow, where the light barely peeks over the water."
Below the cascading water surface was a fish: small, scarcely a dart of silver, yet fast. Without visible effort, it moved from plain sight, glimmering in the intense sun, into the reeds before Koisplash could even attempt to hook the fish. Her smile expanded on her velutinous, ravishing profile. With scales like the sheerest armor plating, the behemoth fish made its way upstream, passing the school beneath the two felines, choosing the slower water of the shallows. And for that string of moments, she tried to think like a fish, to immerse herself in the tepid Greenleaf waters and experience life from an entirely new perspective. "I would love to catch that huge one, but that wouldn't be an easy catch." She chuckled sheepishly, fixating her gaze back on the school. She hovered over the edge, spotting a large gap between the roots, where she could pull up a fish. "Now that your shadow is disbanded, it's time to try and catch one. Be quick, and angle your paw this way." She hummed, extending her paw to hover over the water, plunging her arm deep into the water with unsheathed claws. She curled her digits, scooping a minuscule fish up from the surface, quickly bringing it to her mandibles as she tossed it onto the bank. "Step on it! You should be able to crush a few bones, limiting the movement. From there, go for the killing bite." She said briskly, wondering how fast he'd react.

kotik (he/him) | loner Kotik gave a mrrow of amusement watching Koisplash's reaction to his mentioning of Ravenpaw and Tigerstride. Though the tom wasn't always the brightest cat when it came to general knowledge of the valley around him, he often had a good time picking up the subtle cues and reactions of the very same cats who walked through the territory. He had long been rather insightful and perceptive, even if he wasn't always intelligent. But at the same time, Koisplash was not the first cat to give him a warning about other cats being potentially dangerous, which seemed rather odd to the tabbied loner, who had been met with only kindness from the cats whose paths he'd crossed. Was it possible that the threats that these cats seemed to see in each other were only made by their own distaste of one another, rather than any actual feeling of real tension? After all, all cats were the same underneath their fur, were they not? Regardless of who their kin were, or where they were born and came from, it seemed like these cats all shared so much in common - it made Kotik wonder even further why it seemed they felt the others so dangerous, and why they simply could not get along.
His amusement towards the calico she-cat continued when she began to instruct him on how to focus his shadow. He followed her word, moving almost sluggishly around the roots that she seemed to be able to balance on so carefully. Kotik was not quite as practiced as she evidently was, but managed to find his way over beside her, and realized the truth in the deputy's words. Now on this side of the opening between the roots, his shadow didn't hang over the edge and into the pool of water below, where the fish seemed to be even more plentiful now. Kotik tipped his head to one side as he watched them carefully, wondering how these fish could be so stupid as to not remember the fact that only mere moments ago he had splashed his paw into the water in a poor attempt to scoop one of them out. Which was fresh coming from a cat who could hardly remember the rules of the valley cats and the borders they seemed to lay out.
Kotik kept quiet, crouching down beneath Koisplash, his fur pressing against hers as he listened to her words and watched the fish below. He followed along, holding his paw out at the same angle as hers before she stuck her foreleg far deeper into the water than Kotik had attempted, scooping out a fish with such ease he could hardly believe it. But as the fish flopped dramatically onto the land, the tom moved with a flash, stepping onto it. At first, his grasp seemed to slip, and he thought that the bumbling creature would make its way back into the water, but he managed to dash once more, grabbing out with his teeth and crunching down. Although it tried to give a few more strange flops in his maw, finally the fish managed to let go and fall into its death.
The tom turned around, his yellow gaze bright with contentment as he looked about for a moment for a place to put the creature down. He gingerly placed it on a root in front of him, holding a paw on top for stability as he raised his head once more towards Koisplash, "You have much skill at catching the fish - and at instruction," he purred happily. He nodded towards the fish under his grasp, "You are hungry?" he asked, "Please, have the first bite - you are deserving for such kindness!" Gemini / koisplash ● 638 words

[attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] The tom she'd crossed paths with was fortuitous that the hotheaded Koisplash hadn't been more of an aggressor, typically displaying belligerence toward outsiders. Perhaps it was his genuine and wholesome nature, her auditories flicking at her ponders. There weren't many moments where her mind was silenced, continuously stirring with new and old reflections, and she frequently dwelled on the past. Likewise, the moment she'd crossed a strange rogue with her mother when she was a young apprentice. Her mother, Mottledstream, elucidated that the tom was grueling, and she was related to him, comprehending him as her brother. Koisplash didn't question Mottledstream too much, recalling the apprehension in her mother's eyes. The mademoiselle wondered if that occurrence had compelled her abhorrence for outsiders, remembering the russet tom's name as Cardinal, previously understood as Russet-talon. Hatred is such an abomination, a subversion of what should be good. She hadn't experienced this loathing except where love is betrayed or destroyed in some manner. Most hate their ex-lovers more strongly than individuals who embezzle their prey or disarray their nest. Koisplash assumed she made justifications for outsiders and held her loved ones to impossible standards. Yet, in the bleak landscape of hostility, there are always paths back to understanding and empathy, though sometimes they are barely threads in a vast wilderness of negative emotion.
Besides her thoughts, while observing Kotik, she noticed that the bachelor appeared competent and harbored an intention of intaking information adequately. Well, other than the boundaries or sense of the Clans. He wasn't all there, but he at least cooperated with her instructions. She was delighted that he appeared to indicate inquisitiveness in the fish, as she believed they were fascinating creatures and tasted otherworldly. Though, something suddenly illuminated Koisplash's mentality once more, visage widening slightly when Kotik had moved closer than she'd expected. He's too close. I'm merely a stranger to him! What is he doing? Koisplash desired to mock and strike Kotik on the back of his crania, or possibly the face, but she had been focused on familiarizing him with how to fish, as she promised. Despite her youth, she never dared to steer her attention when explaining things, as she was a surprisingly noteworthy instructor. She could hardly shake the thought of how close Kotik was, astonished she hadn't responded harshly as she generally intended. There were reasons she hadn't let anyone close; again, it may have been her interaction with her mother's murderous brother. Koisplash dreamed about the life where her older sisters were there, but they had never gotten a glimpse of even apprenticeship. Kidnapped from their nests at barely two moons and slain.
Strange enough, dread surged through her and this warm, flustered feeling. Real threats and memories of threats can trigger suspicions. Those who sufficed the bitterness discover it's challenging to unlearn fears. Thus when she realized that she was scared, Koisplash must ask herself how real the threat was or if she had begun to generalize fear and seek evidence to cement it rather than oppugning it. To remain well-balanced and with a good perspective, the damsel must invariably remain willing to ask these problematic inquiries, hone her genuine emotions, and see others as they are. The prize for doing all this right is a well-functioning society; the punishment for posing as inaccurate is run-away paranoia. The former makes friendships, and the latter makes enemies who could have been friends. If after an analysis, she must uncover the threat to have real force and impact, take action to protect herself, protect those she loves and call in allies to provide support. She inhaled sharply, averting her crown toward the opposing tom as he assisted with the fish as she advised.
In summary, most individuals must comprehend that fears can be honest, phantoms of real fears, or entirely imagined. It takes courage to figure out one's fears, to face them and question them, but it is worth it. Hence the situation occuring before her, where Kotik's voice broke her churning crania. "Thank you! I have been catching fish since I was basically a kit," The mademoiselle chuckled sheepishly, a soft smile replacing her bland, contemplative facade. "Oh, really? I didn't realize I was good at teaching." The deputy uttered, feeling her ears flush. And all that worry about mentoring Cloverstar's daughter? Maybe she had no reason to overthink. "I'm not very hungry, but if you insist I have the first bite, then I suppose." She chimed, refusing to turn down the offer, assuming it was rude. Is this breaking the code? She attempted to force the thoughts aside, taking a bite from the fish's side, chewing thoroughly before swallowing. "The rest is yours, Kotik. Congrats on taking out your first fish. You're welcome to try for your fish to take along on your journies."

kotik (he/him) | loner "You are very kind, Koisplash, Deputy of MistClan" Kotik purred in response as he watched Koisplash have her single bite. He felt a little guilty watching her take only one bite, but he took some satisfaction in knowing that at least it was a sizable one, and that this cat seemed relatively well-fed at the very least. Perhaps that was truly all she needed.
He flicked his tail and looked down at the fish under his grasp, "I did not really take the fish myself - you did much more of the work." he noted, not wanting to take any more credit than he deserved. The reality was that Koisplash was the one who scooped the floundering creature out of the water, which was a good part of the heavy lifting of the hunt. Killing the fish - well, that wasn't all that much more different than killing any other piece of prey, was it? It didn't take any more skill that he didn't already have before this meeting.
The tom leaned down and took a bite out of the fish, letting the taste run over his tongue. It had been a long time since he'd last had fish, he realized - it wasn't as though he had ever successfully fished himself. Reality was that he probably hadn't had one since he was no older than a kit himself, and the taste of this one was ... different. Firstly, he wasn't quite as used to fish that hadn't been only just recently sitting on a pile of ice - it was usually freezing cold, and while this prey wasn't hot per say, unlike other sorts of prey when freshly killed, it certainly wasn't the same level of near freezing of what he'd had. He also wasn't sure he'd ever had this exact kind of fish - there was a difference in its taste, though not unpleasant whatsoever, it didn't quite bring him the comfort that he'd hoped might spark from having a piece of prey he hadn't had since his kithood.
His yellow gaze flicked back up to Koisplash, realizing that she was still sitting in front of him. "I am sorry - it has been long time since I had fish," he admitted, "When I was small kit, my sister and me would sometimes get fish from lyudi. We did not have to hunt for it, that is why I did not know how. It was one of my favourites as kit - the most fresh meal other than rats from streets." Kotik continued his speaking, not realizing that many of these words or phrases might be entirely foreign to Koisplash, but he looked down, almost forlornly as he thought of his sister. He had not seen her for quite some time, and had set out on his journey many full moons ago in hopes of finding her, and he was no closer now than he was when he abandoned the lyudi who had taken him in. [attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] Koisplash's beaming glaucous visage scrutinized the opposing feline, unsure whether she should be skeptical. As much as she desired to be, her guard had fallen, nearly swallowing her whole. She hadn't been able to settle since she'd begun the conversation with the loner, a soft sigh escaping through her nostrils, almost silently. Shifting back amongst her haunches, Koisplash dipped her crania in gratitude toward the tom who accompanied her and vice versa. "I suppose you could say that." She uttered sheepishly, vocalizations merely inaudible. She felt as though there was a hefty weight upon her shoulders, provoking her morale to dissipate slightly. He should go. What are you waiting on? Koisplash internally questioned herself, deeming her wrath had slipped from her talons. Typically, an interaction wouldn't have lasted this long; abnormally sociable with this so-called Kotik. Hearing his vocalizations again shattered her ponders, somewhat alleviating the deputy. She paused for a moment before responding, taking note of his unique way of speaking. His formation and pronunciation in how he spoke wasn't entirely normal. She certainly understood what the tomcat had been saying, but it was more broken and simplified. She believed he may have misinterpreted what she implied.
When Koisplash had said, "Congrats on taking out your first fish." She suggested that he had done well on the kill. Koisplash's visage closed, angled with glee as she allowed a soft chuckle to escape her maws. "Sorry, I meant, good job with how you killed the fish." She corrected herself, a small smile furnishing her facade as her luminous gaze reopened to meet Kotik. The tom took a bite from the fish, seeming to savor the flavor and put deep thought into what he'd been eating. Koisplash didn't blame him, the fish was good, but there appeared to be more than just tasting the fish. Perhaps it was memories, though. Only she would know if she inquired. The deputy's left auditory flicked upon Kotik's voice, crania tilting at his apology and explanation. "No need to be sorry, Kotik, I understand for the most part." Koisplash commented, shifting her vision to the crystalline fluid filled with those satisfying creatures. "Lyudi?" She repeated in question, watching the fish dart across the water and circle back to their original places. "You didn't have to hunt? That's something I've never heard of. Feel free to tell me more." Koisplash eyes widened slightly with curiosity shimmering within. She was genuinely curious about Kotik's words, bewildered by what some of those phrases indicated.
Where she sat, the she-cat felt the sun's rays peering through the tall willows, creating a dappled light. She had been in a larger patch where the sun shone through, feeling warmth clinging to her pelage. On sunny days she loved closing her optics to bathe in the mild heat. For that sweet uplifting sensation arrives all the same.

kotik (he/him) | loner Kotik thought for a moment on how to describe the lyudi - he wasn't entirely sure Koisplash would have even met one, if he was entirely honest. He had lived with a family of them for some time when he was first taken from his home on the streets, along with another cat who had been living there. But after Kotik had left the den and begun his journey to find the location of his sister, he hadn't seen many of the strange tall creatures. For a moment, he was curious if they'd ever passed through this valley before, though he shuddered to think what they might do if they found it - some lyudi were just as one with nature as cats, but others lived for destruction.
"The lyudi..." he started, clearly searching for the words to describe the rather strange creatures, "They are strange creatures, usually they have no fur but with some on the top of their heads. Most where I am from are pink, but I have also seen many of brown colours, too. They are very tall, even their young tower over cats like you and I. When cold season come, they often bundled themselves up in layers upon layers of fur that they did not grow themselves."
Kotik then looked at Koisplash for hopefully some sense of familiarity - maybe she did know of the strange creatures that were the lyudi. Certainly the cats had passed down stories, and perhaps there had been cats before Kotik who had come through who knew of them, who perhaps even lived with them as he had for a time. But instead, the tom pressed on to more pleasant memories - though it wasn't as though the lyudi carried only poor memories for him, there were certainly less lovely ones. After all, it was because of the lyudi that he had been taken away from his home, it was because of them that he had been separated from his family and ended up in this strange land far from where he had been born. "Hunting - it was near impossible back home. Out here in valley, you find fish and birds and little creatures that scurry around through the grass. But in the streets, there is scarce food, though one could find rat or pigeon if they were hungry enough." The tom shook his head, "But best food often came from lyudi. There were streets where lyudi would trade things for small shiny rocks, such as meats."
Kotik felt a low purr rumble deep in his throat, though barely audible as he continued, "There was one lyudi, very kind to my sister and I. He traded small shiny rocks for fish with other lyudi, but we did not need rocks. He was there every quarter moon, and so were we - he would cut small pieces from fish to give to us for eating. There were other lyudi who traded other foods, sometimes they would give us gifts and other times they would chase us and roar at us. When you live among lyudi, you learn which are kind and which are not." The memories of begging for fish with his sister, particularly with the one kind lyudi brought a warm feeling in Kotik's chest. It was almost as though he could smell her scent once again, mixed with the stunning aromas of the trading stalls with their meats and flowers. Though food was plentiful here in this valley, there was still a feeling of homesickness when Kotik thought of his kithood. Gemini / koisplash ● 605 words

[attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] It hadn't been possible for Koisplash to understand the phrase, let alone the meaning of lyudi. Was it another species? Waiting for the response felt like forever, observing the deep introspection within the loner's gaze, pondering the description of this creature he'd mentioned. They may have appeared foreign due to the expression in the tom's yellow chasms, merely finding the correct words to portray such a seemingly magnificent being. Was this thing a danger to their Clans, or would they bring some benefit? It was unbeknownst to her until she acquired the response, inhaling slowly, followed by a silent, extended exhale. In reality, it was a few moments before Kotik collected his thoughts and delivered a relatively detailed description. A crooked simper decorated her countenance when he began to clarify. No fur? That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard of. Meanwhile, Kotik conveyed these creatures; Koisplash was coming up with comments in her mindset, attempting to hold her tongue while he spoke. She often had a horrible habit of interrupting others with sly remarks, inquires, or baffled statements. "I've never seen one or heard anything about that. Perhaps I should keep an eye out for these lyudi. I don't think the Clans have witnessed anything like that before."
When Koisplash's sea-green visage reached Kotik's alluring golden ones, she paused to intake those fiery pupils in particular. She often engaged in vital and intense eye contact, fixating her confidence to be evident. She stood tall, despite her more diminutive stature. She wasn't an enormous cat, nor was she remotely average-sized. The damsel possessed a lissom physique with muscular appendages; she hopefully illustrates an image of morale to prevent possible underestimation. Kotik's eyes were the yellow of a thousand warm suns, the promise of light that gives energy to nature. It was the color of kithood happiness and the brightest of Newleaf blossoms, and as she gazed into them, she could envision the radiating energy and warmth. He appeared very free-spirited and had no consciousness of limitations or perimeters. Her facade twisted with bewilderment when Kotik mentioned the two words, back home. What did that mean? She assumed he must've been from somewhere else, explaining why he didn't understand or know much about the Clans. Kotik was the only loner Koisplash had ever kept in her presence, typically veering them outside of the territory within those seconds of seeing them. She may or may not communicate before showing aggression; in other words, Kotik was fortunate simply because he was a friendly cat.
"You must've come from somewhere interesting, Kotik," She spoke, wondering if this tom was some spy. She was starting to question the tom's presence, but he didn't seem detrimental. "Seems you ate well, sometimes?" She half-stated, half-questioned, auditories flattening slightly amongst her cranial. There was plentiful to take in, listening to Kotik's history. He was full of intriguing stories, so it seemed. "I hope your belly is fuller here. StarClan blesses all, at least, I hope." She grumbled, taking a glimpse toward her ancestors above. She couldn't see any of the stars regarding the cycle. She loved the night, where she could gaze upon Silverpelt. "So, there are some bad ones?" She questioned, crania tilting, her vibrant gaze widening. She was inquisitive yet almost astonished to hear this. She questioned it in her head, but she was correct; there were some to look out for. "What do they do? Are they harmful?" As the deputy of MistClan, she acknowledged this information could be significant, desiring to discuss this with Cloverstar if these lyudi ever started showing up. She'd keep this information in the back of her mind, always.

kotik (he/him) | loner "If you have not come across any lyudi, I do not think you have any worry," the tom reassured her. Realistically, if any were to come out here into the valley, they would likely have made themselves quite known. They weren't exactly the stealthiest creatures, often shouting and screaming at one another, making loud noises with their strange contraptions. Kotik was honestly just convinced they'd never heard of subtly for as long as the species had existed, however long that was. "They are creature that like to make themselves known to every living thing from here to the mountains," he purred jokingly, going on about the noisy creatures. It was true that they could be known to do some terrible, horrible things to creatures like cats, but if they weren't living around these parts, Kotik didn't want to worry Koisplash with stories of creatures she may never come across.
After all, it was due to the lyudi that he was even here in the first place and not home. They were the ones who scooped himself and his sister off the streets and took them so far that they could just feel in their bones that they could never return on foot alone. If Kotik were to try and walk home, he was sure that he would be long dead from old age before seeing anything familiar again. The majority of them also seemed aware of the difference between a cat that lived inside a lyudi's den and a cat who lived on the streets - and they would likely view the valley cats as similar, if his beliefs were correct. While some could be cruel, others would keep their distance or maybe offer a bit of food if they had some to share, running their paws along the spine of the willing creature. They often knew to keep their distance from cats who did not want to be touched.
He decided that it might be best not to push the topic of the strange creatures that would most likely never cross the path of the Clans.
But something else crossed Kotik's ears as Koisplash asked questions, "StarClan?" he repeated, "Are they other group out here in valley? I do not believe I have met them..." he tipped his head in thought a moment, knowing he had met some cats from GaleClan, had spent a couple of nights with the Tribe up in the mountains, and had heard tales of the GorgeClan cats though was yet to meet them, and was now meeting Koisplash of MistClan. But he wasn't sure that of any of the groups he'd met, any had even mentioned a StarClan. He wondered what might give the group such a name - perhaps they were stationed somewhere very high, close to the stars, or somewhere very dark such as in a cavern that made it feel like nighttime. [attr="class","whatabout"] [attr="class","angels"] Life is like water If you block one side it takes other turns to continue its journey So don't stop your journey due to one failure [attr="class","wbascr"] Koisplash's mind meandered at the thought of these creatures Kotik previously mentioned. From the deputy's understanding, not all lyudi were good beings, so she figured she'd remain cautious, just in case. "I will try my best to be less concerned," She chuckled sheepishly, auditories flattening against her crania out of discomfiture. "Well, I'm glad they haven't discovered this place, then." A soft sigh escaped her mandibles, ears swiveling forward. There was a moment of silence, authorizing the damsel to collect her thoughts, dwelling on the idea of mammals roaming around without consideration of the cats who claimed the land; these lyudi Kotik mentioned, what were they entirely? What can silence be? Was there always the sound of one's own heart? Like whiteness, there was luminosity, and blackness is a canvas for dreams; if a soul is present, there is always something. And so, as the quietness grew more profound, she heard the imperturbable cadence from within, which she anointed silence. The reflection of her actions or the consequences behind her meeting with this loner shattered her contemporary ponder. She expected to determine more and become knowledgeable about the world around her. It appeared Kotik was wise, but in his way, more of an insightful tom rather than notably philosophical.
Following as a lamb was a pestilence; what she brought harbored real value in the world - she possessed wisdom and lay beneath the Clan's paws as if it were their foundation rather than her own. She was loyal, but what was she doing here? She resumed her concentration on Kotik, believing her intentions were logical enough to suppress her dread of breaking the code. Upon Kotik's simple inquiry, Koisplash's tail flickered, this could go two ways, short and straightforward, or elaborate and detailed, she thought, a simper plastering amongst her facade. "StarClan are the ancestors above, who technically supervise the Clans. StarClan is made up of the passed dutiful warriors who monitor our Clan and the others. However, it's not only warriors; there are youngsters, too." A dainty smile caressed her maw, eyes softening as she remembered her deceased siblings, who she unfortunately never met. "You wouldn't necessarily be able to meet them unless you somehow went to StarClan after death. I find it intriguing that the leaders and medicine cats often greet members of StarClan in their dreams. Sometimes, though rarely in the light of the day, can StarClanners be greeted; it is possible."
Koisplash inhaled quietly, closing her visage in thought for a moment before reopening them and meeting Kotik's curious gaze. "Beneath StarClan, we follow the Warrior Code, which is frequently easier to break than assumed." The deputy's smile faded slightly, rolling her eyes whimsically at the thought of the code she attempted to follow to the best of her abilities. "For example, hunting or trespassing on another clan's territory; you broke the code, though it doesn't necessarily apply to you." She teased, pressing her tufted toes into the soft soil underneath. "Shall I tell you more? If you're good for the day, perhaps we can meet again. It's been a pleasure, Kotik." kotik (he/him) | loner Kotik listened carefully as Koisplash described the truth behind what StarClan was. He blinked, realizing that he'd probably never really considered what happened to a cat after death. He supposed he never really thought that anything happened - a cat simply died and life went on, did it not? After all, life moved before Kotik was ever born, so why would it cease to do so after his death - and it wasn't as though his spirit of his soul existed before he was born either. He hadn't been watching over his mother pre-birth that he could remember, but maybe that was something that these Clan cats did experience. Perhaps they had a different cycle of life altogether, that they may experience life before they're born and after they've died. Kotik felt though, that perhaps it didn't make life what it really was and what made it really worth it in the end. After all, why would he bother taking in the beauty around him if he could still gaze upon it in the afterlife? Why would he bother going out and searching for his sister if he would just one day die and be reunited with her after death? After all, that way they could even live separate exciting lives and get to tell stories until the stars faded away altogether. When cats died, he wouldn't really feel like he would miss them, because he would know that no matter what, they would reunite one day. It made it feel as though death was just ... a temporary departure rather than the finite ending it could truly be.
"This is ... much to think about," he said as he listened to Koisplash continue speaking about the Warrior Code. He realized that his life back home had clearly been much simpler and easier, simply just thinking about where he would get food next, about continuing the cycle of life rather than following some rules. "It seems your Clan life is complicated, is it not? I must admit, I do not think I understand the purpose of it all," he said, his voice still light about the whole situation. He couldn't imagine spending all his time worrying about following some code or serving it, following rules he didn't even get a say in. It made it feel as though he would have had to have been born and forced into following such rules, rather than getting the chance to decide how he wanted to live his life. The way he lived now, he was free to do whatever he pleased, and it wasn't as though it caused any harm either, did it? Perhaps it was just in his nature to have a kinder disposition, so that rules needn't apply to him - he didn't need a code to keep him in check to prevent him from hurting others. But just the thought that someone might need rules and need some superpower of StarClan to make them be nice to others was bewildering to him. Why not just be nice for the sake of being nice? If this Warrior Code was so easy to break, why not just rewrite it altogether? He couldn't imagine not being allowed to choose what he wanted to do with his life.
Kotik's tail flickered behind him as Koisplash offered to speak more, he looked up at her, meeting her green gaze and felt a light little purr rumble in his chest, "I do not wish to keep you from your work, but I would like to hear you speak more." his sentence ended there, and not on mistake of translation and a missing "hear you speak more about the Warrior Code", but simply that Kotik did find a pleasure in simply listening to Koisplash speak, especially when it seemed to be something she was clearly passionate about, such as this odd Clan life. He didn't think he would ever truly be able to wrap his head around it, but something about being around Koisplash was just ... nice. It was a feeling he didn't often get, but it was welcome by many means. He would be just as happy to do whatever she wanted, whether it was to sit here and listen to her talk more about the things that made her happy, or if it was to go off for the rest of the day and find something else to keep him occupied. Either choice seemed fine by him. Gemini / koisplash ● 744 words
