[attr="class","raven-content"]There was a slight rotten smell that rose up out of the multicoloured pools whenever the wind blew it away from the surface of the strange liquid. Ravenpaw was careful to stand downwind from the overpowering stench, his pale eyes narrowed in concentration. At his paws lay a few pieces of crowfood that had been removed from the fresh-kill pile. An uneaten young rabbit, a small sparrow. He picked up the rabbit carefully by its scruff and swung his head, releasing the prey so that it arced towards the pool. There was an immediete sizzle as the mysterious water bubbled, and Ravenpaw watched patiently as the prey slowly vanished, steam rising from where it had been. He then proceeded to do the same with his sparrow, the same process reoccuring again. He trotted over to a small branch set up nearby, looking very out-of-place in the open treeless plain. And that was because it was out of place, Ravenpaw himself had dragged it here.
He unsheathed a claw and marked two shapes at the bottom of the log, one vaguely rabbit-shaped with one ear longer than the other, the other his best attempt at a sparrow’s small head and beak. He was no artist, but it did the trick anyway. Biting his tongue in concentration, the medicine cat apprentice then glanced back at the pool as if to check something, and then crossed out three other shapes on the log. He scored his claws through the depiction of a rodent, a hare (which was identical to the rabbit) and a crow. It seemed there was nothing the pool did not dissolve completely within a day. Maybe I should try plants. He thought. I could start with a bit of moss.
He was so absorbed, he did not notice his visitor.
