It seemed warmer today, drawing Cloverstar out of her den early in order to examine the ice outside camp. She was keeping a close eye on the state of MistClan's territory, hyperaware of the one downfall to living in a cave: flooding. When the ground outside seemed wetter than it was frozen, she would have to have a plan to relocate her Clan for Newleaf. As it was though, the ice was still hard - it was only morning though, she'd have to check again later.
Moving back inside camp, she caught sight of movement near the nursery and paused to watch a queen emerge and mumble something to someone behind her. Ah, that reminds me... It was part of Cloverstar's role to get to know the queens and the kits that would become the future of her Clan - it would be her job to choose mentors for them. One of them, Hailkit, would be ready to become an apprentice soon. Less than a moon ago, his father had been killed by a fox on their territory. While Cloverstar had joined the patrol that had scared it off their land, she hadn't yet taken the time to visit the kit herself. Now was as good a time as any, she supposed.
"Good morning," she greeted the queen as she approached the nursery. "Staying warm?"
"Trying to," the other she-cat purred. "I wish I had a thicker coat!"
Cloverstar never knew how to act around the queens, and didn't care for small talk, so she immediately changed the topic. "Oh, that must be Hailkit?" She spotted a flash of dark fur at the nursery entrance, then returned her gaze to the queen. "Is he doing well?"
"He seems to be now. He's a funny little thing, but my heart breaks for him a bit. Losing his mother and his father, it's a difficult thing for a grown warrior to cope with, let alone a kit."
Ah. That was right. She'd forgotten she and Hailkit had something in common - his mother had died giving birth to him, just as her own mother had. She glanced back at the nursery now with renewed interest, watching the smokey kit within.

i find it very, very easy to be true
i find myself alone when each day is through
yes, i'll admit that i'm a fool for you
because you're mine...
