The warmth of the sun, now high in the sky, was soothing to Hailkit who was nosing around the area where Mistclan buried its discarded prey bones. Why? Hailkit didn’t know but he found it slightly absurd as the bones were quite fascinating if the warriors paid enough attention to them. His awkward large paws, connected to equally awkward long legs, scraped at the lump of fresh dirt in front of him to uncover small mouse bones with bits of decaying flesh still on them. Wrinkling his nose he unsheathed a claw, careful to pick off the nasty bits leaving pristine bones behind.

His grey eyes shot warily over his shoulder to check for any of the queens finally noticing his absence. Thank Starclan there were none, for now. His rapidly beating heart slowed a bit as Hailkit became comfortable that he might just get away with this after all. He knew collecting bones wasn’t considered “normal behavior” to many cats, but he didn’t much care what was considered normal. Normalcy was trivial, trivial was nonsense, Hailkit didn’t follow nonsense.

Hailkit began to pick up his bones when he heard the sound of unhurried pawsteps. Knowing they didn’t sound like they were after him, Hailkit dropped his prize and darted into a nearby bush. Heart pounding, fearing having gotten caught, Hailkit flattened his body to the ground, peeking slightly out of his hiding spot with round wide eyes. Flattening his ears, he anticipated the upcoming onslaught of scolding, but he didn’t recognize the other cat…and she definitely wasn’t a queen, so he poked his head out tentatively, “H…Hello?” He croaked.
