Skyteller
The Tribe's cavern was gloriously, almost hauntingly empty. Skyteller felt as though his lungs could fully expand again, and that he'd aged fifty moons in half a season.
He looked upon the humble gathering of Tribe cats, many returning from disposing excess bedding or other remnants of their finally-departed guests.
There were new faces among them; shyness and curiosity, and Skyteller could not help but smile patiently in their direction. Tribe life was very different than Clan life - but for all the drastic contrasts, it was a life, in Skyteller's, that was rewarding.
"Tribe of Forgotten Waters." Skyteller made his way to the central area, watching out of the corner of his eyes as Blackbird darted over.
"We have endured a long difficult season, playing host for more cats than either of us knew could in this valley. I am proud of our grace and civility, even under the duress of clashing ideals."
Several snorts and grumbles went through the gathered cats. Skyteller amicably continued, not wanting to dwell on things they could not change. He gave a regal nod to Storm, their Lead Cave-Guard, who limped forward with a sense of composure, though Skyteller noticed the subtle wincing.
"I now give Storm his chance to speak."
"Thank you, Skyteller." Storm took up sentinel near Skyteller and Blackbird, his Cave-Guard lineage apparent in the bulk of his build. "I am stepping down from my duties as Lead Cave-Guard. Skyteller has told me this pain in my leg will likely last for seasons ahead - so it's time for someone else to rise up to champion the Tribe's safety."
It was grim, but not unexpected. And there were many who murmured thanks and encouragement to the Lead Cave-Guard for many moons of diligence and service.
Skyteller spoke next. "We will decide as we always have - with a vote. Everyone please find a stone, and place it before the paws of the Cave-Guard best suited to take Storm's place. As is tradition, Storm will vote last."
It was best to let Storm go last, so as not to unduly influence the vote by showing favoritism early on. It was easy to follow the lead of others, after all. But though he trusted Storm's judgment, the opinions of all the Tribe were just as valuable. Majority vote would decide their next Lead Cave-Guard, with Skyteller acting as tie-breaker should it be needed.
OOC: Takes place Leaf-fall Day 2, after all Clan cats have left the Tribe.
This is the announcement of Storm stepping down from his role as Lead Cave-Guard! Cats are welcome to vote in-character for whichever Cave-Guard they please, though Snake Sunning on Rocks will be the new Lead Cave-Guard! After a handful of posts, I will post again with Skyteller announcing Snake as the winner.
