APPEARANCE A snowy-white tom with one blue eye and one yellow eye. With a pelt the color of freshly fallen snow, Birchfrost's appearance stands out in every season except leafbare. The only part of his pelt that isn't covered in bright white fur is the top of his head, a 'birthmark' in the form of a black spot between his ears, a peculiar marking he shares with his sister. Easily the most striking part of his features, if the stark white of his fur wasn't enough, is his mismatched eyes - with his left eye being a crystalline blue, and the right a shade of amber. He and his sister look identical in appearance right down to their eyes, which have made it easy for them to be confused with each other. Only now, when Birchfrost has grown into a warrior, are Clanmates able to tell the difference between the siblings more clearly. He's a bit bigger in frame, and his pink nose a touch of a shade darker than his sister's, and the shape of his face is just slightly different. However, it's still common for anyone to mix them up at first glance. Growing up as a kit with his siblings, Birchkit had a lot of energy and he seemed to have no idea where to put it, constantly goading his littermates into playing with him, or sticking his nose into places he shouldn't. Snowkit, his 'twin' sister, was the perfect match for his energy and curiosity, and it wasn't often the pair of them were seen apart. But just because they were so inseparable, didn't mean they didn't include Asterkit in their mischief and playfights too. Though it took him awhile to realize Asterkit was different from he and Snowkit, he still doesn't treat his brother any differently than he would anyone else. He's been known to be bossy and pushy at times though, unable to understand that others don't always want to take pleasure in playing and running around the way he does. As he grew older and became an apprentice, Birchpaw didn't lose one bit of his energy and curious mind, which definitely made him an eager learner. However, if anything went from 'paws-on' to more of a lecture, one would be able to see the very second (usually no longer than a minute after the lecture started) Birchpaw's attention drifted. He's notorious for being unable to pay attention to anything that doesn't involve him moving around, which at first earned him more chores than the typical apprentice. But after discovering Birchpaw was simply more receptive to action-based learning, his mentor became much more effective. All through his apprenticeship, he still managed to be spend more than enough time with Snowpaw, and it was difficult to separate the siblings at times. Birchpaw would often become sulky when told he wouldn't be training with his sister for the day, but would quickly forget about it once they got into things and he became distracted. The pair of them were still close, up until Birchpaw earned his warrior name before Snowpaw. INSPIRATION: James Potter (Harry Potter), Jake Peralta (Brooklyn 99) HISTORY
KITHOOD Birchkit, Snowkit, and Asterkit were born to Skyfall and Appleshade of TreeClan, a litter of three snow-white kits. When they began to grow, the litter found themselves to be separated into 'the twins' and Asterkit, simply because Birchkit and Snowkit were identical in appearance (both with mismatched eyes, and even a little black birthmark between their ears), and as time went on they realized Asterkit was more different from them than simply not being identical to them. For a couple moons, Birchkit didn't even realize his brother was deaf, unable to understand why he wouldn't respond to him sometimes, which resulted in the young tom being a bit irritated until he got his attention. He and Snowkit became much closer though, and because of his focus on his 'twin' sister, he'd often forget about his brother until he appeared or asked to join in their playfights or games. The pair of them were more than happy to include their brother in everything, they just sometimes forgot to do so from the get-go. All three of them got along well, and when Birchkit finally learned Asterkit was deaf, he didn't feel like it made much of a difference to him besides the fact he was aware of it now, and wouldn't get annoyed when his brother wouldn't respond to him. APPRENTICESHIP When the litter became apprentices, Birchpaw in particular didn't lose his energy or sense of adventure. Always sniffing around for something to do, his mentor was more than happy to give him a task when he asked for one. At first, it seemed he was the ideal apprentice, as he was eager to learn and not difficult to train. However, the negatives of his personality soon began to impact his apprenticeship. For one, he seemed to entirely lose the ability to focus when he wasn't doing something, which sometimes made learning the rules of the warrior code seem impossible, since it was quite a bit of lecturing. His mentor would watch his attention flicker in and out, switching from a beetle to a drifting leaf, to the sound of the wind through the trees, and then to the grass at his paws. It took some work, but eventually his mentor adapted a new method of training to make sure Birchpaw was paying attention, often combining practicing hunting stalks and pounces with warrior code lectures. Keeping the tom busy while listening to his mentor speak seemed to work wonders, and even Birchpaw was surprised how much better he seemed to absorb things with making his hunting moves feel like muscle memory. WARRIORHOOD Most recently, Birchfrost has earned his warrior name and it came as a bit of a surprise to him, as he'd always pictured becoming a warrior alongside his sister if not Asterpaw as well. He served his vigil alone, which was probably the most difficult night of his life simply because he was expected to sit still and stay quiet. Because he joined the ranks of the warriors before his siblings, he feels more distant from them than he ever has before - Snowpaw especially, which pains him. He hopes to mend the distance between them all soon, because he can't imagine a more miserable way to spend his warriorhood than being apart from his littermates. |
