Description:
For a StoneClan cat, Orioleflight isn’t brawny. Despite her father’s broad-shouldered build, Orioleflight is lean and lithe, taking after her mother in terms of appearance. She’s smaller than average, almost dainty, and light on her paws. Sneaking and tracking are her forte, while brute strength is her weakest point. But though she may be little, Orioleflight is far from weak. She’s got a fiery personality and a vibrant coat to match. Her fur is short, hugging her lean muscles, but thick enough to keep her plush and warm. Black and orange mix and mesh and swirl together, coloring her coat a mottled tortoiseshell. Unlike most tortoiseshells who have large patches of color or are predominately one color over another, Orioleflight’s coat is much more evenly mixed, and her orange furs are heavily saturated with color. Her eyes only add to her fiery look, bright amber pools of gold often open wide to take in everything around her.
Personality:
Orioleflight is a spitfire. She's dedicated, passionate, loyal, and fierce. She's eager and unstoppable, determined to let nothing get in the way of her goals. Loyal to her Clan, to her family (whether blood or choice), she'll stop at nothing to defend them. She faces every day and every challenge with a renewed sense of vigor and purpose, drawing on seemingly limitless stores of energy to fuel her endeavors. Everything she does, she does all or nothing, giving one hundred ten percent of herself.
On the other side of the coin, she's been known to go to extremes. As ferociously as she feels the good, she feels the bad. Her lows go as far down as her highs go up. Her single-minded determination can turn into tunnel vision, blocking out everything but that one thing she's focused on. Her fiery passion often struggles to be doused, leading to a hotheadedness that causes her to act without thought.
As she grows, she'll hopefully learn to reign herself in, much like her father did, but it will take time and a discipline she currently doesn't have to spare. Still, despite her fiery, overzealous nature, she's not a bad cat. She loves ferociously, yes, but also without reservation. She's a friend to everyone she meets, and is usually more than willing to take time out of her day to help a Clanmate.
History:
---Oriolekit
Oriolekit is the sole kit of StoneClan's former deputy, Wolfclaw, and his tortoiseshell mate, Crowdance. Though they had hoped for kits for a while, something had always prevented it. Be it poor timing with seasons, illness, injury, or Wolfclaw's deputy duties, kits just never happened. After Wolfclaw stepped down as deputy, he had more time to focus on family, even if his health was no longer at one hundred percent.
A few seasons later, Crowdance finally moved to the nursery, giving birth to a single kit. The mottled black-and-orange kitten was the most beautiful thing Wolfclaw had ever seen, and reminded him of a little bird he had seen once many moons ago, a faint symbol of hope when StoneClan was trapped in the mountains beyond their territory. He had told Crowdance of the birds he'd seen, and the words that Hawkstar had spoken about them, and they both agreed that naming their only kit after that reminder of the good the world can hold was the best decision. And so, Oriolekit earned her name, and spent the first six moons of her life being completely loved and adored.
As an only kit, Oriolekit didn't have to share her parents' attentions with anyone else, and knows no shortage of love from them. She saw the way her parents loved each other, and it filled her with hope that the world was good. Grown in love, trust, and loyalty, Oriolekit grew quickly, and soon hit her six moon mark, and began her apprenticeship.
---Oriolepaw
Before a beaming Wolfclaw and Crowdance, Oriolepaw earned her apprentice status, under her mentor, Sedgefoot. A few days later, so as not to disrupt her ceremony, both of her parents retired to the elders' den. Training with Sedgefoot began in earnest, and Oriolepaw was eager and quick to learn. She took to her training with a ferocity at odds with her small form. Oriolepaw took Sedgefoot's critiques to heart, perfecting her form in hunting and batle. Even though Sedgefoot wasn't the most socially adept, Oriolepaw still enjoyed his company and cherished the time spent with her mentor, even if she wasn't learning.
Oriolepaw wasn't the only one who learned, though. She taught Sedgefoot a little about stretching his comfort zone, and how to have a little more fun. She liked to turn training into a game when she could, if only to put a smile on his face. One of her favorite games was a speed and agility training, where she and Sedgefoot would race each other. With her body already built for speed and agility, it was a good way to hone her skills and train her muscles. Hunting was also one of her strong points, while battle training was more a weak spot. But instead of focusing on the lack of strength of her blows, the pair focused more on her ability to sneak, dodge, and attack unexpectedly.
She also spent much of her time in the elders' den. She wasn't like most young cats; her parents were old. Even though she was young, she had a sense to spend as mugh time with her parents as she possibly could. She often volunteered for apprentice duties involving the elders, just so she could have just a little more time with them. And when she wasn't training or doing chores, she could be found sharing tongues with the cats that raised her. Six moons passed quickly, though, and then it was time. Her assessment went smoothly, and like her mentor, she received a warrior name that reflected her fleet-footedness. Oriolepaw became Orioleflight, and she still swears her elderly parents cheered her the loudest.
---Orioleflight
Orioleflight sat her warrior vigil alone, and slipped into her duties with the same voracity as she had her apprenticeship. She spent even more time in the elders den. It felt like time was running out. And two seasons after earning her name, it did. She woke early one morning with a sense of dread in her gut, and immediately made her way to the elders' den. There, she found her parents wrapped around each other in their nest, stiff and cold. They had passed together, peacefully in their sleep, leaving their single kit as their legacy.
Wolfclaw and Crowdance's deaths were hard for Orioleflight. The love she had grown in, once her greatest blessing, now seemed her greatest curse. Her parents were gone, and now she was alone. But, in time, and with the help of her Clan, she learned to cope, to focus on the wonderful memories she had of them. It was during this time that she grew closer to a cat many moons her senior. Herondive, daughter of Hawkstar and Frozenrain, helped her through, feeding her with stories from Wolfclaw's deputy days. She took comfort in the ways Wolfclaw had devoted himself to his Clan, and later to his mate. Even though there is a great age gap between them, Orioleflight looks to Herondive as a close friend, and truly values the other cat's presence, advice, and memories.
It has been a couple seasons since her parents passed, and even though she still misses them terribly, Orioleflight is healing, determined to give her all to her Clan to honor their memories. She is strong, she is a warrior, and she knows her parents would be proud of the cat she is becoming, and that knowledge keeps her going.
RP Example:
Golden amber eyes flew open, the tortoiseshell she-cat jolting awake. There was no slow wake, no haze of sleep still lingering, just full consciousness from a dead sleep instantly. Something was wrong. Orioleflight paused a moment, glancing around the warriors' den and giving herself a chance to breathe. The Clan was still asleep. Slowly, carefully, she rose from her nest, picking her way to the mouth of the den. She took a deep breath to steel herself and exited into the pre-dawn light. Her gut twisted tighter as she moved toward the elders' den.
Her parents were no longer young; she's known that for most of her young life. Much of her time was spent sharing tongues with them in the den they shared with the rest of the elders, but today's trek across camp felt different. Pausing once again, she sent up a silent prayer to StarClan she wouldn't find what she thought she would. Orioleflight ducked into the elders' den and slowly made her way to the nest of Wolfclaw and Crowdance. There was an eerie stillness about them, and tears began to fill her eyes.
She had to make sure. "Mom...Dad..." Slowly, carefully, she crept to the edge of the nest, and pressed her nose to Crowdance's fur. The pretty tortoiseshell was stiff and cold, and Orioleflight bit back a cry of anguish as she moved to her father, finding the same. "No...No no no no..." Orioleflight sobbed quietly, still mindful of the other elders in the den. As carefully as she could, she crawled into the nest with her parents, curling herself next to them and rasping her tongue over their fur. She cried, quietly, until the sun rose and the Clan awoke. Excused from her duties for the day, Orioleflight spent the whole day sitting vigil for her parents, the cats who had loved her and each other so much, laying beside them, grooming them, and expressing her love for them in both her actions and her words.
