Newleaf 25, 6
The moon is bright and strong. There is a faint breeze, though ultimately it is pleasantly warm out and a fine day for hunting, battle training, or basking in the heat of the day. The night is warm and pleasant as the leaders lead their Clans into the clearing.
At the front of StoneClan's patrol, Hawkstar stands tall. Age is beginning to thin him, but his broad shoulders remain a testament to his and StoneClan's strength. Pale amber eyes shift to his side where Smokestorm stands, and the two share a silent exchange. As StoneClan settles into the clearing, their voices joining the surrounding thrum of activity, Hawkstar appears focused on something else. Although his paws carry him easily up to the perch on which he has sat for many moons, his gaze searches the gathered cats expectantly.
Attending with him: Smokestorm, Sandblaze (NPC), Ebonypaw, Valiantstride, Spiderheart, Herondive, Brightmane, Snowpaw, Cloverspring (NPC), Silverglade (NPC), Slatescreech (NPC).
Silverstar walks at the head of the RainClan procession into the Gathering, alert to any signs of danger. Dewfrost remains protected on all sides by an escort of warriors, including Lilygleam herself. The clan may be neutral in the grand scheme of things, but Silverstar can't help but be cautious.
Attending with him: Lilygleam (NPC), Dewfrost (NPC), Wasp-paw, Ferngaze, Yarrowpaw, Storkleg, Russethawk, Berrybreeze (NPC), Wolfheart (NPC).
TreeClan arrives looking strong and confident, with the aging monarch still at the forefront. In spite of the hardship of Gorsetail's forced retirement, there is a grim smile on Lionstar's face as his Clan crosses the scentline into StarClan's Claws. Not far behind him is one of the few TreeClan cats able to compete with Lionstar and Hawkstar in terms of size; TreeClan's newest deputy, Pumafang. Lionstar greets the two leaders that have arrived before him and takes a deep breath of the crisp night air - while it has yet to be sullied by the rotten odor of NightClan.
Attending with him: Pumafang, Falconstorm, Blackwater (NPC), Brushfire (NPC), Yewfang (NPC), Finchcloud, Zephyrfang, Leopardpaw, Aspenfire, Redbird.
At the head of NightClan, Darkstar carried herself proudly to the great rock to join the other leaders, pausing only briefly at a word from her new deputy before leaping easily to the top as the rest of the NightClan patrol spread around the clearing. There is an ease and a relief in the NightClan cats over finally having proper leadership again after the uncertainty of the past several moons. Darkstar sits at the edge of the great rock, tail curled around her paws, and offers only a cursory nod of greeting to the other leaders, clearly not interested in conversation. Her gaze narrows and lingers upon Lionstar longer than the others.
Attending with her: Rainfur (NPC), Smokefur, Shadowchaser, Moondance (NPC), Cardinalfrost (NPC), Privetshade (NPC), Gracklestrike, Cinderfur, Graywolf, Brindlemask, Pigeonpaw.
Newleaf has been kind to LightningClan. Prey runs and the grass is green. This has put almost everyone into a good mood, made only better by the addition of new warriors to their ranks. Firestar leads the group, her eyes still dull with grief, but she appears in better health. She makes it onto the leader's rock in a single leap and settles in for the gathering to start.
Attending with her: Redscar, Kindleflare, Tigerpaw, Lynxfire, Sparkjaw, Dovecloud, Cloverstreak (NPC), Ivypetal (NPC), Rabbitpaw, Thistlepaw.
The small party of Tribe cats are wary, sticking close together; cave-guards in defensive positions on either side of the prey-hunters and Skyteller. The Healer, however, exudes a hopeful air, head high as he enters the clearing. He will climb the leaders’ rock only at an invitation, otherwise remaining on the ground with the other Tribe cats.
Attending with him: prey-hunters Babbling River Between Stones and Dusk that Shrouds the Forest, cave-guards Dark Clouds of Gathering Storm and Lights Blazing in the Dark. No to-bes accompany them.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Pale amber eyes had watched NightClan's arrival with veiled intrigue. At the head of the patrol was a cat with whom he was not all too familiar. But it was obvious NightClan had undergone a change in leadership, and that Briarthroat had not become Briarstar as one might expect. Something in his heart told him the tom had gone to StarClan too soon, though he would not be certain until NightClan's new leader made an announcement. If she chose to make an announcement at all concerning those potentially private NightClan matters. Guessing what type of leader this young she-cat was would be impossible with the minimal knowledge he had on who she was.
A group of cats that would be stranger to some pulled his attention away as they entered the clearing. Though murmurs ranging from unease to curiosity began to prickle throughout the members of the gathered Clans, Hawkstar found a warm smile spreading on his silvering features. Taking the opportunity to control the whispering while it was still at relatively low volume, the tom glanced between the leaders as he stepped forward, silently asking if he may speak first. When no one objected, the tom took his position upon the rock spires.
"Quiet, please." He bellowed, his voice carrying over the clearing with practiced ease. Holding his tail up in another signal for silence, the StoneClan figurehead waited until the crowd fell silent before he continued. "Although I'm certain introductions will be made soon, let me be the first to welcome the Tribe of Forgotten Waters. Skyteller, if you would please join us on the rocks." With an inviting smile and accompanying wave of his tail, Hawkstar waited for the Tribe healer to make his way up and settle down before returning his attention to the questioning faces of the crowd below.
"Newleaf has treated StoneClan well. We endured a somewhat... Unsettling matter regarding a mother and three badger cubs taking residence on the Sun Stones. However, by working with LightningClan, we successfully killed or chased off the badgers, returning the Sun Stones to a safe state once more. It is recommended the other Clans be wary of the remaining beasts, in case they decide to move into another territory." As he spoke, he glanced toward Firestar and dipped his muzzle respectfully to her. "In addition to that somewhat unfortunate event, StoneClan is happy to report two new warriors among our ranks. Although they were unable to join us here tonight, I am honored to announce Palepaw and Minkpaw of StoneClan are now Palewing and Minkfire. StoneClan welcomes them in their new and well-earned positions." With his piece said, the tom stepped back, curling his tail over his paws as he sat once more. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Justice | table by phoenix

Silverstar gave a brief look to Lilygleam as all the leaders came to stand where they were meant to be. It seemed that StoneClan and LightningClan had put aside their differences towards a common goal. Badgers were no joke, but at least the matter was sorted. He'd have to put extra patrols out to make sure the family didn't try and settle in RainClan territory. While neutral towards the other clans RainClan was not a weak clan. They would defend their home. When Hawkstar finished speaking Silverstar came up to present himself, quiet for a long moment before speaking. "I'm glad to hear the threat was dealt with so quickly and hope for quick recovery to any that were injured during the attack." So many cats, and each time it seemed they were younger and younger. How long until he went from the youngest of the leaders to one of the oldest? "Congratulations to your new warriors. RainClan welcomes a litter of new kits this season, a three strong litter born to Ashflight and Russethawk. We also discovered a lost kit this past season and welcomed him into our care. As of now we haven't found his parents, but we assume them to be loners. We also celebrate the coming of age and welcome a new warrior into our midst; Larkflight. Dewfrost has settled well into her title as our medicine cat and we expect many more moons with her caring for the clan." As she was his daughter he was very proud of her, but didn't broadcast the fact in front of the other clans. With his piece said the silver tom stepped back and sat down. Fawn

FIRESTAR leader of lightningclan Realizing they were last to arrive, Firestar expected the gathering to start right away. However, to her surprise cats from the mountain tribe arrived. She carried no ill-will for the oddly named cats who seemed to have such a harsh lifestyle.
Hawkstar invited their leader to stand with them, she was the first to shift slightly to allow him space, considering his size. As StoneClan's leader continued to inform the others of the going on's in his Clan, Firestar returned her own respectful gesture. Far from granting them forgiveness, she remained civil and polite, perhaps even a little grateful to the success of the joint badger removal.
Silverstar was next to speak, a curious tom-cat by Firestar's standards. Very unlike his predecessors. Old memories of Sandstar in the mix of the planning the war on StoneClan resurfaced. RainClan had grown soft, which was not Firestar's concern. Once he finished, Firestar moved forward to speak.
"It seems Newleaf the season to have new warriors. LightningClan has two new warriors, Sparkjaw and Lynxfire as well as new kits. Owlmind and Quailfoot have given LightningClan three healthy kits," Despite her exhausted outward appearance, new kits had a special way of renewing Firestar's spirit. She elected not to restate the badger problem for time's sake and returned to her spot, waiting for the next leader to step up.

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars "TreeClan is pleased to hear that the badger problem was resolved with no deaths in either Clan, and I too would like to welcome Skyteller and the Tribe of Forgotten Waters to tonight's Gathering." Lionstar spared a smile at the large ginger tom that had just joined them. "In addition to that welcome, I would like to give my apologies to Skyteller, for after I have said my piece, TreeClan will be returning home."
A fresh wave of murmurs rose to the stars at this comment, and Lionstar, tail flicking, commanded silence with a quiet growl. "I'm certain many of you are wondering why Gorsetail is not here, representing TreeClan as he has done so for countless seasons. Gorsetail was wounded by a NightClan warrior, and Pumafang has taken up the mantle of deputy."
Lionstar bristled, letting his size swell under the starlit sky, his shadow spreading wild and unrepentant across the gathered cats below. Claws gripped rock, and his voice sharpened, even as he projected it over StarClan's sacred ground. "In an act of brutality, Darkstorm of NightClan attacked a TreeClan patrol at the beginning of the season. Had her Clanmates not intervened, she would have killed Gorsetail - or Brackenstride, if Gorsetail had not intervened. It was an act of blind, stupid rage, and my deputy paid the price for it."
And she's standing right here. Lionstar bared his teeth, returning the narrowed look of the new leader with icy hatred, the juxtaposition of warm amber eyes with cold regard an unusual sight. "TreeClan will recover. Gorsetail may not, because of the petty, vicious behavior of a cat who can barely be called a warrior."
She was a proud young cat, proud and too stupid to understand the cycle she was perpetuating with her behavior.
"And this cat," said Lionstar with a short, sneering laugh, "Is whom NightClan seems to have chosen for leader. A leader is meant to conduct themselves with dignity and uphold the Warrior Code. I only see three Clan leaders before me. I care nothing for the words of a cat whose actions have been nothing short of crooked."
With a dismissive flick of his tail, Lionstar turned and nodded to Pumafang to begin rounding up the Clan, announcing to the startled cats below. "NightClan has rewarded her viciousness and her temper; TreeClan will not. StarClan’s Claws are no place for a rogue."
"It's a shame," Lionstar descended the great rock, addressing Hawkstar, Silverstar, Firestar and Skyteller with one last, long look. He was genuine, though bitter when he spoke: "I truly believed Briarthroat could have been a great leader. Now we'll never know."
The other Clans could stay to hear what NightClan had to say in retaliation, but Lionstar refused to acknowledge Darkstorm's ascension to leader. Was this the message that NightClan was trying to send? That only the brutal, only the physically strong, could become leader? There were heavy, bloody days ahead. Lionstar did not care to learn the name of NightClan's deputy, it would not help or hinder anything from this point forward.
Their chances for peace with their neighbors had been lost with Briarthroat failing to take Foxstar's place; Lionstar mourned what could have been, and as he put his back to StarClan's Claws, allowing Pumafang to lead the Clan home, he braced himself for whatever trials came next. I'm taking back the crown, I see what's mine and take it...
Darkstar watched LightningClan arrive last, Firestar joining them on the great rock as her Clan mingled, but then it seemed they weren’t the last to arrive after all. Her fiery gaze narrowed, the fur along her spine rippling as a sixth small group of cats arrived. The Tribe had joined them again. She had not been there, but she had certainly heard about the last time the Tribe had tried to join in on a gathering. Her tail twitched with some irritation at their presence, especially with two former NightClan cats in their midst. They had turned their backs on their Clan and they ought to know better than to show up with these outsiders to a gathering.
Hawkstar stepped forward to speak then, drawing her attention away from their unwelcome guests. She had hoped the tom might tell the Tribe cats to go back where they came from, but instead he did the opposite and Darkstar’s tail lashed once at the open invitation for their leader to join them. She stood, ready to protest, but Rainfur caught her eye, the older she-cat shaking her head, mouthing a single word. Peace. With a derisive snort, Darkstar settled onto her haunches once more. Tonight was a night of peace. Fine. Tail tip twitching bad temperedly, she listened to Hawkstar’s StoneClan updates in case there was anything worth noting.
Her ears flicked at the idea of badgers trying to settle in NightClan territory and barely registered Hawkstar’s announcement of two new warriors before the big tom was stepping back to let someone else speak. She would have to make sure Rainfur informed their border patrols to keep a lookout for any signs of badgers moving in. Silverstar took Hawkstar’s place and Darkstar’s ears flicked forward again. As a Clan they shared a border with, she was a deal more interested in what RainClan’s leader had to say. But nothing the silver tom shared seemed of any real interest to NightClan.
Firestar’s news wasn’t any more interesting and Darkstar cast a bored glance out over the gathered cats below as the older she-cat spoke. The only reason she ever cared to come to gatherings was to size up prospective opponents. Now she would have to attend every one and sit through this tedium on a regular basis. She was prepared to step forward after LightningClan’s leader, but Lionstar beat her to it. When he also welcomed Skyteller and the Tribe, she scowled, but his apology for TreeClan’s early retreat from the Gathering tonight had her ears pricking.
When the TreeClan leader mentioned Gorsetail’s absence, Darkstar glanced briefly around the clearing because she had honestly not noticed. For a moment she wondered if the former deputy had died of the wounds she had given him, but then Lionstar’s sharp words, her old name, had her attention shifting back to the big tom. When he turned to look at her, teeth bared, she met his gaze with open satisfaction in her own. What, he didn’t like his deputy being forced to step down after an unprovoked attack? What must that feel like? Oh right, NightClan knew. Pinewhisker knew. There was one debt repaid.
Her claws scraped the stone as she stood, fur along her spine rippling as Lionstar told the entire Gathering she could barely be called a warrior. Her tail lashed behind her. He wanted to insult her character? Here he was, a seasoned leader, hiding behind the truce of a Gathering in order to hurl insults at her without consequence and promising to run away once he had finished so she could not even respond. If ever there was anything in the golden tom she could have respected, it was gone now at this blatant act of cowardice. At least she did not run away from the consequences of her own actions.
She snorted derisively as he went off about what a leader should be. As if his word should dictate the way she chose to lead, to live. What did she care for the opinion of an old TreeClan coward? As he called her a rogue and descended from the great rock, she sneered down at him, fangs bared as she called a warning after his retreating form, “Remember what I did to your deputy and keep your murderer son away from my border, or the next time you see him will be in your dreams with StarClan!” It was the only warning he would get.
She did not deign to give him any more of her attention, turning pointedly away to face the cats that yet remained at the gathering, addressing those assembled, “Briarthroat is indeed dead. He died bravely, leading Demon away from the Clan. NightClan honors his sacrifice.” She shot a hateful look in the direction the TreeClan had patrol had gone, “As Lionstar so kindly introduced me, I was once called Darkstorm, but I have taken over leadership of NightClan in Briarthroat’s stead. I have been to the Moon Tree and I have received my nine lives.” So what if Lionstar did not accept her leadership when all of StarClan did?
Her gaze fell upon Rainfur, who was looking surprisingly calm for everything that had just transpired. “Rainfur is NightClan’s new deputy,” she gave the she-cat a slight nod and continued, “NightClan also three new warriors in our ranks. Gracklestrike, Cinderfur, and Privetshade.” Her gaze found the trio briefly, bitter that Lionstar’s rant would dampen this moment for them, but determined to give it to them nonetheless. "Thornscar and Thistleheart have welcomed three new kits into the Clan as well," she added with a note of pride touching her voice, and then she addressed the entire gathering once more, her gaze sharp, as she issued warning to the entire valley, “NightClan will repay any transgression against us in kind, but do not transgress against us and we will have no quarrel.”
It was not explanation or excuse for her actions that she offered next, only example of what would happen to anyone who dared think they could act against NightClan without consequence, “Lionstar conveniently forgets how his Clan attacked one of our patrols to steal our territory two leaf-falls past, and in doing so crippled our leader Pinestar and forced her to step down. NightClan does not forget wrongs against us.” Her fiery gaze traveled around the clearing once before she finally stepped back with a curt nod, as if she had just given any normal announcement about NightClan’s well being.

Teller of the Mountain Sky It was a bit crowded on the rock, but Skyteller was pleased at the invitation to join the other leaders. He settled next to a small, aged calico, glancing at her with a nod of greeting before turning to watch Hawkstar as he continued to speak. Badgers? From the report it was clear the Clans viewed them as trouble, but Skyteller had no idea what they were. How odd, to realize that their threats lay almost solely with the mountains themselves- rockslides, avalanches, blizzards- eagles were a threat, but not if a cat was on its guard. An eagle could be watched, even overpowered. What the mountains threw at them were far more life-threatening.
Shaking those thoughts away, Skyteller kept listening as each leader in turn spoke, until Lionstar. He dipped his head to the golden tom, only to falter as he began to speak; it was a harsh denunciation of NightClan, whose leader, a slight tortoiseshell who had not spoken yet, turned to stare at the TreeClan leader with burning amber eyes. Skyteller glanced between them, and then at the other leaders, suddenly uncertain of the tension that hung in the air. The she-cat- Darkstar- was on her paws in the next moment, hurling her response at Lionstar as the tom led his Clan from the clearing. It was too bad, really, and though Skyteller felt a prickle of unease at remaining, he had never intended to limit his allegiance to just two Clans- he had sworn not to get involved in whatever disputes happened between them.
Edging slightly away from the calico LightningClan leader, now that there was one less body on the rock, Skyteller realized, suddenly, that it was his turn. He had known what to expect- he'd picked the former Clan cats' brains for what exactly went on at a Gathering, but he hadn't anticipated hostility. It was a night of peace, of passing on news of new kits, apprentices, warriors, and warning of threats. Not this. Could they not keep their differences at bay for even the course of a single night? Rising, Skyteller drew breath to begin, but before he'd managed a word a yowl rang out of the crowd. "Rogues! Go home, we don't want you here!"- and there was a round of mutters that rose- agreeing with the words, or with him, he didn't know.
He couldn't see who'd spoken, but at the base of the rock Smokestorm sat staring at him, her expression unreadable. Cutting his eyes to River, who gave a slight nod of support, he began. "I would like, first, to thank the Clans for allowing me and my Tribe to be here. It is an honor, and one I hope we will continue to receive in the moons to come. My name is Skyteller, and as Hawkstar has said we are of the Tribe. It's good to hear that your Clans are thriving-" he couldn't help a glance to where Lionstar and TreeClan had retreated, wishing he'd stayed, but no point in postponing this. He had Lionstar's word about TreeClan, and he could only hope it would hold. "and I hope it continues to be so. I came because I had hoped there could be peace between the Clans and my Tribe, and I wish to extend an offer of alliance with the Clans of RainClan, NightClan, and LightningClan, as I have with StoneClan and TreeClan already."
He turned to the leaders he had not met until tonight, nodding his head to each. This had always been the trickiest part, and he had planned on a different leader of NightClan to give his offer, but Darkstar was the one who stood here and so it was she who would accept or decline. "Please understand that we will not stand with you in your disputes between Clans; we will stand aside from your rivalries with each other. But in the case of outside threats, if we can help we will." Herbs, a fighting force, even prey, if they could spare it, however his Tribe could offer aid he would give it. But only if it was wanted, and about that he wasn't sure at all. Perhaps it might have been better to meet each Clan separately after all. Too late now, the tom thought to himself, and stood waiting for the leaders to accept or refuse. Tribe of Forgotten Waters

Silverstar was listening to everyone, and winced as the squabbling began. This was a sacred place, they weren't meant to air out their disagreements here. He thought less of Lionstar for his actions and words, and thought the age tom was acting a bit like an ill-tempered kit. Forcing his clan to leave early because of a matter with another clan, airing it out before all others and essentially seeming to declare war on NightClan before all other clans. What a mess. As the subtle bickering continued with the introduction of NightClan the silver tabby could only sigh. Kits. They were acting like a couple of kits fighting over a scrap. He waited until the cat called Skyteller finished speaking, giving him a friendly smile to assure him that not all of them were going to cause chaos, before speaking above the murmurs of the crowd. "Enough!" His voice carried and he internally winced as the gathered cats actually stopped and stared at him. "Though these cats are not of our clans, they are a type of Clan of their own. Who are we to accuse them of being rogue when they bring us only a paw of friendship and assistance. Only those who were once part of us or have done terrible wrong can be given such an accusatory title, and just which of these things are these cats guilty of? This is a place meant for gathering, for the clans to come together despite the politics and disagreements that exist beyond these stones. Do we change that tradition now, when presented with another, if different, group of cats?" Regardless, it wasn't his place to speak for the clans at large, and only could speak for himself and his own. "RainClan is pleased to welcome you to this place of Gathering. I wish you and yours well, and perhaps soon we might meet here again to discuss how our two groups might help each other? I'll have to ask our medicine cat what herbs might grow further up in the mountains that we can use." With that said he stepped back. Everyone was on edge, and as it was unusual for Silverstar to cause any sort of ripples in an already disturbed stream some of his cats were looking at him funny. He'd spoken up, their neutral leader who didn't want to involve himself with the other clans and their politics. He didn't like making a spectacle of himself, and he certainly didn't care for the attention, but it was what it was. "For now, it is time for us to leave. Take care everyone on your way home." He looked to the cats that had come with him. "Lets go home." HellionTaxx

As Skyteller stepped forward to address the gathering, Darkstar couldn’t help the derisive snort at his words. He should be thankful to be here. But none of the other leaders seemed to have any problem with the tom’s presence, or that of his Clanmates. Tribemates. Whatever. Her amber gaze flicked back over to the two former NightClan cats among the small Tribe patrol, her tail flicking in irritation. That they had turned their backs on their Clan and had the audacity to show up here tonight had her claws itching.
The big tom’s offer for some sort of alliance was met with flattened ears and narrowed eyes from Darkstar, gaining her attention back. She was on her paws again, ready to refuse in no uncertain terms the Tribe’s offer of alliance and assistance. NightClan needed nothing from outsiders and the moment they did they ought just disband. But Silverstar spoke first, addressing the gathering at large and silencing the murmuring, whether displeased or simply curious, about the Tribe cats.
Her gaze flicked over the cats gathered below as RainClan’s leader spoke, and Rainfur caught her attention with a wave of her tail. The older she-cat shook her head, curled her tail in the usual battle signal to wait before a charge, and got her point across well enough. Her deputy did not want her to outright refuse the Tribe’s offer. She wanted to discuss it. With another annoyed flick of her tail, Darkstar supposed discussing the matter with her was a reasonable enough request. StarClan had led her to choosing Rainfur for a reason, after all.
As Silverstar seemed agreeable with the Tribe and then made to lead his Clan home, Darkstar watched the silver tom for a moment before turning to Skyteller, “I’ll discuss your offer with my deputy and give you an answer at the next gathering, since I assume you will be joining us again.” Her gaze narrowed, clearly displeased, and with two of the five Clans gone or leaving she saw no reason to mingle further. With another flick of her tail, she looked back down at the cats below, “It is time to leave, NightClan!” She leaped down without looking back at the two remaining leaders and Skyteller still on the rock. She and Rainfur had far more to discuss than a possible alliance with the Tribe. Taxx BlooRey DVD Hellion
