He'd waited patiently for the ginger she-cat to finish socializing with the others. As they were heading the same direction anyway he thought he'd ask her to walk with him. That her apprentice would follow along with both their warrior escorts didn't matter to him. He just wanted to talk to Kindleflare. Once she seemed finished talking, and her young apprentice ready to leave as well, he approached them. "Kindleflare? Would you like to walk along with me until we reach the borders?" As TreeClan and LightningClan shared a border it worked out. Plus it gave more cats to watch over the three medicine cats, even if they mostly wouldn't likely look after the ones not of their own clan. Honestly he didn't get it. A medicine cat should be protected regardless of their clan of origin. A medicine cat would help anyone that was injured, or at least he would. Barring certain NightClan cats which he would avoid so he didn't have to help them. He tried to be neutral about it but sometimes...He shook his head. "Were your dreams peaceful?" He didn't ask what they were, just if she'd had good ones. One did not ask what the other medicine cats dreamed of. It was a private matter. But he would be speaking somewhat of his own. "StarClan finally decided to speak to me again." Which had he told Kindleflare they'd stopped? He thought he had. Gently laying her tail on Tigerpaw's shoulder, she smiled softly at him in a silent ask whether he had visited all who he'd wished to visit that night. She'd seen him approach Shadowchaser as she'd settled down to chat with Sandblaze. It warmed her to see the timid tom making connections with the other medicine cats. When her time inevitably came, he would have friends to turn to, of that she was sure. Kindleflare had just begun stepping to signal their escorts it was time to leave when she heard her name spoken in a very familiar voice.
Ginger ears pivoted, followed by dark amber eyes as she turned to face Falconstorm. An easy smile curled her maw as she caught his words, a gentle purr blooming to life in her chest. "I-It would be m-my pleasure, F-Falconstorm." She mewed, moving to stand closer to him. Catching her brother's sharp yellow gaze from where he sat with Palescreech not too far away, she dipped her head to signal she was ready to head out. Briefly, her gaze fell on Palescreech, and the other she cat smiled. Immediately feeling her pelt warm up, Kindleflare's gaze shot to her paws and she cleared her throat nervously, scrabbling to focus her attention on Falconstorm instead.
As the combined patrol fell in line, early morning light filtering down from the sky as night gave way to day, the two LightningClan warriors took the rear of the patrol. Unbeknownst to the friendly ginger medicine cat, Nightstep's purpose in taking the rear was so he could keep an eye on the TreeClan escorts. Falconstorm's question quickly snagged her interest, ginger ears tipping back worriedly as she recalled her rather troubling dream. With a concerned light in her dark eyes, she glanced at Falconstorm. "I-I... I'm n-not sure y-yet. I... I need to h-have a sit and th-think about what it c-could mean. I d-didn't like it at the t-time..." She trailed off softly.
When Falconstorm mentioned his successful communication with StarClan, her ears shot forward. Lowering her voice so as to keep the conversation between them, she looked at him with hope in those same dark eyes. "Th-That's g-good to h-hear, F-Falconstorm! W-Was what th-they had to say.. W-Welcome..?" She'd worried for the TreeClan medicine cat for a long time, since learning that StarClan had stopped talking with him. She never thought any less of him, for Kindleflare could not condemn someone driven to action by love. It so easily could have been her. |

Falconstorm flopped his tail against Kindleflare's back as she answered his question. The fluffy plume was a good way to distract those that needed it, he'd found. "You'll figure it out, I have no doubt about that." The LightningClan medicine cat was made to the calling. She was sweet tempered and kind, soft spoken and if she could fight he doubted she liked to. It was why he found her presence so soothing to his spirit. He was a warrior at the heart of him, and having to be 'escorted' whenever he left camp chaffed. He was perfectly capable of protecting himself and the longer he walked this path the more unhappy he became. StarClan chose him for Bluejay's apprentice, but StarClan, he'd decided, hated him. But he'd never abandon his duty to his clan, he'd never stray the path. To do so would leave TreeClan without a means of healing and without someone that could help when things went wrong. No, he'd never leave the path he was on, but he didn't have to enjoy it. Though, in a way, it was becoming a medicine cat that had started the entire matter with he and Herondive. If he hadn't been able to cross the borders without fear, he likely would never have met her. But that was the past, and now he had to focus on the present. Their conversation continued, and he lowered his voice as well to match hers, rumbling quietly as they walked along. "They decided to be smug about the entire matter, so I told them exactly what I thought. I swear I could hear Bluejay scolding me from StarClan." And he grinned as he said it, totally not ashamed that he'd had some very not nice words with StarClan. "I will never be like you are Kindleflare. I can't bring myself to just trust in them like I used to, not when it seems like they set me on the path to failure from the start." He sighed. "I don't know anymore, they are angry with me, but I did as they told me so they'll talk to me when its important. They just can't get me to sit there and take what they say, to do as they say. I'm combative by nature, and now they know that too." BlooRey DVD

Glancing at him with a tired smile, she shifted to butt his shoulder with hers affectionately. "I-I sure h-hope so... L-LightningClan d-depends on me f-figuring it out a-after all, r-right?" She paused for a moment, before murmuring more so to herself than anyone else. "S-Sometimes I wish we w-were allowed to t-talk about it t-to one a-another..." She lamented, paws carrying her by force of habit now more than anything. As Falconstorm continued vaguely about his dream, Kindleflare's ears tipped backward sympathetically. His experience... It didn't sound much like her experiences with StarClan. Sure, their ancestors were not always clear on their instructions...
But downright smug? Such behavior was anything but noble, and Kindleflare had always thought their ancestors to be wise beyond imagination. They lived among the stars, could see farther than any creature who walked or soared among the ground. Was there really any reason for such kittish behavior like smugness? Her train of thought derailed as the tom compared the two of them. Blinking at him, she stumbled briefly in her rhythm before catching herself. "I... I d-don't know if... If b-being like me is a g-good thing." She admitted quietly, for his ears alone.
She lacked courage. What good was a Clan cat who wasn't courageous? Falconstorm still held the bearing of an honorable warrior. TreeClan was likely proud to call him one of theirs. But what about her? If Firestar could trade her for a cat of equal skill, but with the ferocity of a LightningClan warrior, wouldn't she do so in a heartbeat? She wasn't like her brother, or any of her siblings. She was just... Her. And she was supposed to be teaching Tigerpaw. Oh StarClan, had she made a mistake? Not in taking an apprentice. LightningClan would need someone capable of taking over if something happened to her.
Had she made a mistake in becoming a medicine cat in the first place? Surely there were others who would have been just as good, if not better, than she was. Others who could have shaped Tigerpaw into something far greater than she ever could. "Th...They m-may be angry w-with you, b-but... Y-You are strong, y-you have proved th-that. A-And strength... Strength is w-what it takes to be g-great. S-Surely B-Bluejay is p-proud of you f-for that. Y-You... Y-You hold w-within you the c-confidence I could o-only e-ever dream of h-having." She told him, dark amber eyes trained on her paws. |

Falconstorm leaned so that his larger frame was pressed against Kindleflare's smaller one and licked her between the ears. They were often affectionate towards one another, but it was in the way of good friends. He'd have liked to have a relationship like this with Bluejay, but StarClan had called her home far too soon. He heard her words despite her murmuring, sighing loudly. "I like to think we can talk to each other if we don't feel the vision was extremely personal. Also I don't care what StarClan thinks of me anymore so, there's that." "A good medicine cat does what they can, a great one is totally devoted to their calling. You are gentle and kind, things I struggle with. My nestside manner isn't always the best. So yes, being like you would be good. We each have attributes the other admires, and because we are friends we can help each other work on those things we lack." He head butted her again. She spoke of his strength and he was quiet as he thought about it. "There are many different types of strength, Kindleflare. The strength to carry on no matter what, physical or emotional strength, mental strength, and the list goes on. Each of us is strong in a different way." One of the escorts sneezed, but he didn't check to see who. It wasn't anything to worry about, a single sneeze. Now if they were all sneezing then he'd be bothered to check who it was. "I am going to train an apprentice, but honestly I don't want to. I'm not interested in having a tag along asking me all these questions, but I know I'll have to. I won't live forever." BlooRey DVD

As the larger tom rasped his tongue between her ears, the lithe she-cat tipped her muzzle up to press it to his neck fur. Falconstorm made her feel at ease, and he'd always been so welcoming with her, especially those moons ago when she'd admitted to him that, had she been allowed a mate, she would have likely picked a she-cat over a tom. Never once had he thought it wrong or strange, and she felt a sort of kinship with him transcending that of two medicine cats. He was like family to her, and she made the gesture without thinking of the many sets of eyes that might see and misunderstand.
She listened quietly to what the bigger tom had to say, her shorter limbs moving two steps for every one of his as she matched his gait as best she could. Kindleflare smiled softly at the TreeClan medicine cat as he suggested there were more kinds of strength than she let on. Although she might never see herself as strong, it still brought her some comfort to hear the words. And she thought, perhaps, that Tigerpaw might also benefit from those words of wisdom.
Falconstorm's mind also seemed to drift towards apprentices, though his was a little less welcoming than hers. With a tilt of her head, she blinked at him. "T-Training an apprentice.. I-It terrified m-me at first. I th-thought.. How am I s-supposed to t-teach someone else, wh-when it s-seems I b-barely have what it t-takes to place o-one foot in f-front of the other?" A distant, but genuine smile pulled at her maw then, a contented sigh escaping her. "A-And it's s-still scary, b-but... N-Now I c-can't imagine l-life... W-Without T-Tigerpaw there? It p-probably s-sounds s-silly, but... I-I think he m-makes m-me a b-better m-medicine cat th-than I c-could have e-ever been alone."
With a timid shrug of her shoulders, she ducked her head, focusing once more on her white and ginger paws. "I-I think y-you'd make a g-great mentor... Y-You are s-smart, a-and honest, a-and prot-tective." A small snort escaped her as she shook her head. "Y-You'd p-probably have fig-gured out w-what a bloodied S-Sun Stones a-and l-lightning s-striking a b-boulder m-meant by now." She sighed, almost under her breath, her mind still reeling from the images that StarClan had so suddenly thrown at her. She wished she could have seen her father or mother instead. Now? She just felt... Lost. |

He hummed softly, happy to see her happy. "It doesn't sound silly at all. An apprentice can be a wonderful thing, I'm just not looking forward to having one. You see the best in me, and that's part of your charm. But I am also depressive, moody, sarcastic and at times short-tempered." And he tended to bellow at cats when they were either being too slow or got in his way. StarClan knew how many funny faces he'd gotten from his clanmates when Honeysong had gone into labor and Lionstar hadn't been there yet. Bellowing at their leader was one of his most memorable moments, even if it had embarrassed the she-cat that raised him. Blue eyes narrowed and his ears tilted forward as she muttered again. He hadn't thought she'd actually seen something that bothered her, but she'd spoken of it and now he thought on it too. In the meantime he laid his tail against the she-cat and used the fluffy mass to comfort her. "It sounds like war may be on the horizon for LightningClan." He said flatly, keeping his tone low. "I hope it isn't, and I think with further reflection you may come to a better idea than that, but its what I see." But he was a warrior at heart, and he often saw conflict in images shown by StarClan. Honestly, it sounded to him like StoneClan and LightningClan may yet be going to war once again. BlooRey DVD

Ears flattened against her skull as Falconstorm suggested war may yet be approaching. Dark amber eyes stared at her paws as she moved, her heart sinking low into her chest. Previous thoughts on the advantages of apprentices were wiped from her mind as she was consumed by the dread she'd felt seeing what she had in her dreams. "Th-That's... Th-That's w-what I was a-afraid of." She told him honestly, her shoulders slumping in a sigh as she tipped her head up to the waking sky. Searching the heavens as though it might reveal to her what she needed to know, the LightningClan healer continued.
"I-I d-don't th-think I'm r-ready f-for another w-war, F-Falconstorm. I.. I've n-never a-agreed with the offensive s-strikes L-LightningClan has m-made. A-All the a-anger I s-see from F-Firestar... It i-is consuming h-her. A-And it's n-not only a-affecting her h-health. What r-remains of her f-family is a-affected by th-that all c-consuming rage t-too." She murmured quietly, not even loud enough for Tigerpaw to hear from where he padded with the two LightningClan escorts. "A-After her eldest, M-Mapleheart d-died... I-It seemed l-like n-nothing else m-mattered. N-Not even her t-two new kits." She admitted, her gaze drawn to her apprentice.
Affection glittered in her gaze as she watched Tigerpaw. "I w-worried f-for him... I s-still do. His l-littermate is.. M-More resilient. B-but Tigerpaw is k-kind, g-gentle. I d-don't think he u-understand w-why his own m-mother d-doesn't seem t-to see him. I-Instead, he c-comes to m-me w-with his t-troubles. I kn-know I am h-his mentor b-but... Th-There are things I w-went to m-my mother for when they b-bothered me. A-And yet, as I watch, h-he c-comes straight t-to me. I-I l-love h-him t-to S-StarClan and b-back, b-but... I-It is h-hard to w-watch F-Firestar's d-decisions u-unfold. H-Hard to w-watch w-what it d-does to th-those around h-her."
With a glance at Falconstorm that betrayed the worry in her soul, she admitted quietly. "L-LightningC-Clan is n-not prepared f-for another w-war. A-And I f-fear i-it is something m-more... The p-pawsteps I s-saw... They a-are larger than e-even Hawkstar's. S-StoneClan w-wouldn't br-bring beasts to us t-to w-win a w-war... W-Would they?" |

He sighed. He hadn't meant to upset Kindleflare, but she had asked. But at least he knew something she may yet do for her apprentice. "If he has an older sibling perhaps encourage that relationship to give him another stable point to go to when he needs help? It seems to me that Firestar didn't want new kits for themselves, she wanted to attempt to fill the void left from her loss." And he partially understood that. One of the reasons he gravitated so strongly to Kindleflare was that she reminded him of Bluejay, whom he'd lost. The sweet she-cat was allot like the one who trained him, and it had soothed his spirit to be around her while he transitioned properly into TreeClan's only medicine cat. He didn't know the entire story with this family that ruled LightningClan, and frankly didn't want to know. He had enough to worry about with the family surrounding TreeClan's leadership. "It is also the place of the medicine cat to remind the leader when they have strayed from the path. Perhaps remind her that she has a son that needs her, one alive and here and waiting, if she'd just open her heart to him." BlooRey DVD
