Ivorysight
Ivorysight Gorgeclan Gorgerunner 46 Moons Cis Tom (he/him) Omnisexual |
Appearance
a short-furred athletic albino tom.
The most notable thing about Ivorysight is his complete lack of pigment, resulting in an entirely white pelt and pink skin. Although also colorless, his eyes appear to change depending on the light, normally appearing a crystalline blueish purple but sometimes taking on a red tinge in bright or direct light. His fur is short all over and somewhat thick, and Ivorysight tries to keep it clean when he doesn't need to hide its brightness. Physically, Ivorysight is rather average in size, but his body has hidden strength. Adept at tunneling and climbing, Ivorysight is surprisingly athletic in build, with decent muscle and hind limbs slightly longer than his forelimbs, giving him more power and propulsion.
Personality
+ Amiable + Compassionate + Patient + Courteous + Unprejudiced
On the surface, Ivorysight is a calm and sociable tom. He works hard and strives to always do his best for his clan, caring deeply about almost everyone he meets, and quick to forgive almost any slight. Believing that everyone has good in them, Ivorysight will approach every cat with an open mind. This tom is selfless and empathetic, always willing to be a shoulder to lean on and offer to help in even the smallest of ways or lowest of duties. He does not hesitate to go out of his way and is quick to remind others that it is always okay to admit they feel overwhelmed and ask for help. Ivorysight wants everyone he meets to feel accepted because everyone has thoughts and feelings, and those are meant to be expressed and respected. But as with many cats, Ivorysight has his controversies.
Essentially an echoist, although he tends to internalize this, Ivorysight cares immeasurably about others and very little for himself. If one thing is clear about Ivorysight to those who get close, it is that his wants and needs do not even come second — they come dead last. That is if he acknowledges them at all. Too focused on his own physical and perceived faults, Ivorysight sees himself as a burden and his desires and thoughts as irrelevant and selfish. While he is aware of his own strengths and he pushes to make them of use, he does not believe they will make up for his flaws. But Ivorysight will not stop trying to be of use.
Putting the needs and wishes of others first and being determined to help, he will sacrifice his comfort and even safety for others. Saying "no" is a rarity in Ivorysight's vocabulary without intervention. Compliments are taken with grace but not believed, and favors given are seen as a debt he must repay for inconveniencing others. Ironically, with such a focus on how others view him and a strong desire for validation, Ivorysight is more self-centered than he seems.

Ivorykit was an anomaly from birth, an added kick to the mystery surrounding his conception. With a particularly closed-off mother and an unknown father, Ivorykit was a snowy white kit in an inky black family, born into Lightningclan's skepticism. With his mother so protective and restrictive, it was a wonder Ivorykit seemed so friendly and well-adjusted. He owed this to Swiftflight. A close friend and confidant of his mother from apprenticehood, Swiftflight was one of the few cats Crowfrost allowed around her kits without complaint, and he swiftly became a father figure to Ivorykit and his sisters. When their mother was resting, Swiftflight would play with and help educate the kits, familiarising them with clan life and their campmates. Despite this good influence, however, Ivorykit's life did not remain untouched by his mother. As protective as she was, it was not uncommon for Crowfrost to lament Ivorykit's albinism, wondering how he could ever serve his clan when bound to the shadows. He did not think she meant any harm — truly he believed no one did — but these thoughts burrowed deep and dug in their roots.
Although the oddity of the clan, with his strange looks and odd aversion to light, Ivorykit became relatively liked and welcomed for his amiable nature and eagerness to help despite still being a kit. This carried on into his apprentice moons, presenting a willingness to help with camp chores and entertain the youngest or eldest of the clan.
It was through these habits that Ivorypaw continued to spend time with his former denmates, but it was not until they too were apprentices that Ivorypaw would truly bond with Wingpaw and Nightpaw. Having been the most accepting of his strange appearance and condition among the youngest of the clan, Ivorypaw was quite happy to befriend them. With his own growing insecurities, their acceptance meant the world to him. Ivorypaw's closeness to Wingpaw especially was one that formed swiftly and noticeably, but he could spend less time with zir than he would like. Wingpaw spent much more time training with Nightpaw while Ivorypaw spent most of his training in the tunnels due to his light sensitivity and keen eyesight, leaving a distance between them that they tried their best to fill. This intent led to their bonding during meals and camp chores, allowing a slightly different bond than that formed through hunting and sparring.
Named for his keen eyesight, which allowed him to pick out a fault in the tunnels in the dark that could have caused a disaster, Ivorysight was proud yet humble as he earned his warrior name. This title would let him better serve his clan. With a little more control over his own freedom, Ivorysight found himself spending time with Wingpaw more frequently than before, happily helping zir with training or sharing prey over talk of their days. In the midst of this relationship, Ivorysight also found himself forming a closer bond with Nightpaw as well, as the two found they had a lot in common. The three grew only closer as Nightfur and Wingfeather earned their warrior names, Ivorysight eagerly congratulating them and insisting on a joint night hunt to celebrate. If the trip included more laughter and play than hunting, the trio kept this to themselves. Ivorysight would make up for that later.
As they progressed through their warriorhood, it came as no surprise to anyone when Wingfeather and Ivorysight announced their mateship. Life was pleasant after that, although strange when it came to working around Ivorysight's condition. The young tom got his own apprentice, a youngster eager to learn the ways of tunneling, and Ivorysight had never been so proud as the day she became a warrior. They were happy; at least it seemed so. Until fate grew tired of their contentment.
The earthquake shattered the peace unexpectedly, thrusting their world into disarray. Desperate to save one of his sisters, Ivorysight found himself half-blind in the daylight and unaware of his own precarious balance. One made it; the other did not. Although neither of them could save his sister, Ivorysight found himself indebted to the molly who saved his life and guided him to safety, determined to repay her courage and selflessness in some way. Any way. Timberfrost of Treeclan was a cat he memorized and later sought out as their shattered clans began to reform. Although torn at first, with the encouragement of his remaining sister and Swiftflight, Ivorysight chose to follow her to the forming Gorgeclan. There was no other way to repay that life debt without wishing danger upon her in turn. While Ivorysight refused to let himself sway zir decision, he was awash with both guilt and relief as Wingfeather chose to join him. With a sorrowful goodbye to Nightfur and one last moment of mourning for his sister and mother, Ivorysight set off for his new life.
Life in Gorgeclan was a strange shift from that of Lightningclan, and with most of his former clanmates having taken to Galeclan, the trial of settling in with his difficulties and oddities was repeated. Fortunately, night hunts and patrols were less popular among many cats, and Ivorysight's willingness and capabilities for working in low light served him well and regained him some favor. He would find a way to be of use, even without tunneling. Under the cover of darkness Ivorysight was lucky to come across Nightfur on multiple occasions, sharing news and stories, but not without the void of Wingfeather's absence. Although Ivorysight hoped zie would change zir mind, Ivorysight ultimately respected Wingfeather's reluctance to meet with zir family. It was not until the death of zir mother Comfreynose, passed on through Ivorysight by Nightfur, that things shifted. After comforting his grieving mate, Ivorysight was relieved when zie decided to stop avoiding zir family.
The next hurdle in Ivorysight's life came in the form of snakes. Although not among those who found them nor killed them, Ivorysight was swift to volunteer when the idea of Gorgerunners was proposed. The shadowed areas were perfect for his condition and abilities, while his athleticism and experience as a tunneler assisted his endurance and ability to handle the terrain. If there were more snakes, then his offer would keep at least one other cat safe above the gorge. Intent on helping ensure the safety of his clan, Ivorysight took to his new position with determination and hope for the future.

Adopted From: Xvinn (Formerly "Brightfoot", renamed)
Item: Albinism (Member Appreciation 2022)
Disability: Albinism
Due to his albinism, Ivorysight completely lacks melanin. Not only does this make his skin appear pink, his fur white, and his eyes colored only by exposed blood vessels and reflected light, but it also leaves him with minimal UV protection. His skin is especially prone to burning, leaving him dependent on shade or nighttime. Along with this, his eyes are incredibly light sensitive; while this lends him excellent low-light vision, it also means direct or bright light is very harmful, and prolonged exposure could do permanent damage.
