Due to unforeseen circumstances RainClan has no played Medicine Cat. So its time for Dewfrost to take on an apprentice. Applicants should be advised that training will be done in a different way than normal because Dewfrost is an NPC. Things to know before you audition : 1) Make sure you meet the requirements. - RULES2) I would prefer you NOT make a cat specifically for this position since there's no guarantee that you will get the position and I don't want to be the cause of someone having to immediately NPC a cat because they didn't get it. This mostly applies to anyone making a character that only has plot if they become the medicine cat apprentice. 3) The cat MUST be a she-cat. 4) For the sake of seeing how this cat interacts with others I'd prefer they have at least one thread already with other cats. [Brownie points if you link one or more of those threads] 5) Cats must be no younger than apprentice aged [if young], and no older than 30 moons [if already a warrior auditioning into the role] Now on to the audition piece and thank everyone who has made it this far -------------------------------- Please do each of these in-character for the cat at the time of the audition. 1) A medicine cat tends to physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the clan. You are faced with a cat suffering from a severe panic attack with whom herbs have had no effect. What do you do? 2) Why do you want to become a medicine cat? [Please give me more than 'I want to help others, I want to be of use'] 3) Your training will be coming from medicine cats from other clans that are friends with Dewfrost. While maintaining neutrality as a medicine cat you also have to deal with the political movings between the clan. With the herb-ban in RC territory in place how do you plan to handle this? 4) Even medicine cats have to be able to defend themselves. Even if you don't like violence you must defend yourself from an attack. Are you willing to learn both the duties and skills of the medicine cats and the ways of a warrior?

Character Name: Rustpaw Age/Rank: 6 moon old Apprentice Bio+RP Sample: Link Character Interaction Threads: Show of Resilience Bored in the House, in the House Bored
1) A medicine cat tends to physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the clan. You are faced with a cat suffering from a severe panic attack with whom herbs have had no effect. What do you do?
Wide amber eyes blinked rapidly for a moment, gaze glancing to the side in a thoughtful manner.
"Severe panic attack…, " the kit, no, she was Apprentice aged now, whispered to herself. At first she was honestly unsure of what sort of answer to give. What did one do in that sort of situation? Especially if herbs weren't working?
Though her mind couldn't think of an answer right away, something dawned on her. What happened every time she herself had a panic attack, or at least a mental breakdown? Where she once found herself alone, now she had a mother-figure in Frozensong. The white cat would see the kit's pain, wrap herself around the little red she-kit, and just stay there, her warmth enveloping her small body. It was a simple gesture, but it worked nonetheless. For her, at least. So perhaps…
Rustkit's sights turned back to Dewfrost, a small smile pulling at the edges of her jaws. "I would wrap myself around them and lay with them until they have calmed down- o-or lay next to them if I'm not big enough yet. Warmth brings comfort, and the best place to get warmth is in the company of a friend. I think…" she stopped momentarily, her smile growing more sincere. "I think one task of being a Medicine Cat is to make sure your clanmates know that you are a friend, someone to come to with all problems, not just physical."
2) Why do you want to become a medicine cat? [Please give me more than 'I want to help others, I want to be of use']
The question, just as the last, required a bit of thought on the young she-cat's part. In truth, there were many reasons. But putting those reasons into words was the more challenging part.
"Well…, " her tail curled behind her, the end twitching in thought. Though it took her a minute, the rust-colored she-kit lifted her head to peer into the Medicine Cat's gaze. "I'd want to become one because I feel you would be able to teach me more than a Warrior could. Not that a Warrior couldn't teach me anything! I mean...there's so much to being a Medicine Cat, so much more than being a Warrior. Herbs, illnesses, treatments, being a shoulder to lean on and a pair of ears to listen, even learning how to be a Warrior at the same time! And not to mention Starclan!"
Her gaze, normally more energetic and bright, grew sincere once more at the thoughts she spoke of. "I love to learn. I love to take in everything I can. I love to be there for others like some others have been there for me." A white-coated and green-eyed face flashed through her mind again, making her smile grow wider. "Even though becoming a Warrior would be fun and all, becoming a Medicine Cat would be more challenging, but would teach me so much more."
Ernest smile shifting into more of her typical goofy one, she couldn't help but chuckle. "I already deal with the challenge of my paws every day, so I am always ready for a new challenge! Plus, I'm sure these little paws would be better for sorting herbs and making medicine than catching a fish anyway, " she giggled.
3) Your training will be coming from medicine cats from other clans that are friends with Dewfrost. While maintaining neutrality as a medicine cat you also have to deal with the political movings between the clan. With the herb-ban in RC territory in place how do you plan to handle this?
What was said before could be taken back. This was the most thought-provoking question of the bunch so far. The rusty she-cat's hypothetical eyebrows bunched up, eyes looking to the ground. She was a young cat, only just becoming 6 moons recently. She had not even been alive when the herb ban was set in place by Silverstar, though she had heard about it before. If she remembered right, it was an order that no other Medicine Cats were allowed to ask for or take herbs from their territory. That was something they were usually allowed to do, right?
Even though the order was harsh, and she didn't fully know why it was still in place, she did understand why it had been done. But wait, this isn't the time to be thinking about the order itself. The question.
Being with the other Medicine Cats, but also acknowledging the ban. Hmm...her small head tilted multiple times in both directions, knocking around potential answers in her mind. It took her a little longer to figure this one out. But then something occurred to her, something she had mentioned briefly before.
"Not all lessons taught by Medicine Cats are about herbs. They teach about Starclan too. Learning about Starclan from the other Medicine Cats could help me in the long run, since every cat's connection is probably different in some way." Her eyes lifted once more, expression both thoughtful and curious. "And not all lessons about herbs have to be paws-on, right? Names and descriptions can work too if it's described well enough. And talking about illnesses and treatments, too! Those are mostly talking and less paws-on unless you are learning about it in the den with a cat who has that thing."
Somewhat confident in her answer, she lifted her chin slightly, looking to the Medicine Cat before her. "I can have more involved lessons about herbs and making medicine when I'm in the den with you, and have talking lessons when with the other Medicine Cats! Without giving them any herbs! No tricks! No 'going to find some herbs as examples', in case it's a trap!"
Perhaps these things were more dramatic in her head. In her eyes, Medicine Cats wouldn't be rude enough or mischievous enough to try and use a young cat to get around the ban. But, being the young and not yet matured she-cat that she is, she wouldn't know how two-faced other cats could be when they needed something. She would likely learn soon, though.
4) Even medicine cats have to be able to defend themselves. Even if you don't like violence you must defend yourself from an attack. Are you willing to learn both the duties and skills of the medicine cats and the ways of a warrior?
The easiest question had been saved for last! A bright smile formed on the she-cat's face, her eyes lighting up.
"Of course! I was already practicing to be a Warrior when I was still in the Nursery! I might be a bit clumsy, but I can still learn how to kick some major tail if anybody ever tries to mess with our clan!" Though her excitement began to get the better of her, she took realization of it and pulled herself in.
"I...I mean yeah, a Medicine Cat's main job is to handle herbs and sickness and cats who are hurt and Starclan. But that doesn't mean they can't beat some cats up if anybody tried to attack us or do something to us. We can be strong too!"
Looking at Dewfrost, the small she-cat could only hope that her answer was what she was looking for. Had she seemed too excited at the thought of doing what a Warrior does? Had she seemed too eager to fight off other cats?........maybe that was a good thing? Hopefully? She could only hope at this point. It was too late to go back.

[googlefont=Hind Madurai] Note: I know that Fogcloud is not technically a she-cat, but they are AFAB so I hope they can still qualify in that way. <3 And sorry this took so long, I was a bit uncertain as to whether I should try to apply. I kept changing my mind, haha.
Character Name: Fogcloud. Age: 20 moons old. Bio: fiveclansfate.proboards.com/thread/9280/fogcloud-rainclan Thread example: fiveclansfate.proboards.com/thread/9385/wonderland-explorer-open Can add more if needed!
1) Green eyes softened somewhat as the large, fluffy feline took in the question. They remembered just how distraught and inconsolable Poppytail had been after Lionstride had died, and imagined a cat that distressed at their paws, unable to calm. "It's seldom even the kindest words can help bring a cat out of that sort of thing. I'd feel helpless, uncertain." They allowed a few moments to pass before gathering their words together enough to construct an answer, their large fluffy tail tucking around their pale white paws. "First, I would explain what was happening to them." They meowed, their voice startlingly quiet in contrast to their large and imposing form. "If I were having a panic attack, I would be frightened that I was ill or dying, so it would help to know that I would be okay." They paused again, considering. "Then I would lay beside them and promise I would not leave their side, and that they were safe." Their green eyes flitted away, focusing on the den walls, white paws planted neatly on the ground beneath them. As always, they seemed a little distant, as if their mind drifted away for short periods to wind away through the reeds as they considered every word they'd say next. "I would ask you or the other Clan's medicine cats for advice on how you or they deal with anxious cats afterwards, so I'll be better at it next time."
2) Fogcloud's eyes glinted with amusement. "Well, you know I began coming here because I'm interested in herbs." They smiled. "The countless plants that grow on our territories, the way they live and breathe as we do but hardly move a pawstep. I've always loved being among them, scenting them and find them when they flower." They savoured the tangy smell of medicine in the den as they went on, feeling more and more comfortable with each breath. "So, I wanted to learn more about them. Naturally, I found my paws led me here. I wanted to understand plants and herbs, and the only cat in the Clan with the brand of knowledge I needed was you." They dipped their head. "I'll admit the idea of being medicine cat never attracted me in the past. My path always led me down to the waters to be alone among nature. It never crossed my mind that being a medicine cat is so intricately tied to the things in life I treasure most." They sighed. "I think I would be happier serving RainClan in this way than by running into battle on their behalf. I've never been squeamish, but I don't enjoy hurting other cats if they aren't directly trying to hurt me." They remembered accusations from others about being much too soft on intruders at the borders and the loner whose words changed their perspective forever. "I would be able to learn much more about the plants whose home I share, and I could use that knowledge to help other cats rather than harm them. I could see no better way to spend my seasons."
3) Now this was an alarmingly difficult question. Dewfrost waited expectantly for an answer, and Fogcloud could not read from her expression whether or not they were giving answers she approved of. "I..." They paused, the pause seeming almost too long as they gathered themself to continue. "If a Clan was in desperate need of herbs, I would look beyond our territory to find them, I think. That way, I can try to help the other medicine cats without going against Silverstar's wishes." Feeling more certain about their answer, their voice strengthened with confidence. "There are ways to navigate even the twistiest waters, so I'm sure I'll be able to find that balance between neutrality and obeying Silverstar." They thought of being taught by cats from other Clans, wondering what the other medicine cats were truly like face to face. After all, they had never really spoken with any of those cats. It was strange to think that if Dewfrost accepted them, they would be launched into a new world of herbs and injuries and illnesses and StarClan, where scent boundaries held no more divisive power than a shallow stream. "I think it'll be challenging, but I'll have a lot to learn from the other medicine cats, more than just herbs and remedies. A lot of them would have life experience I won't have for seasons... so the challenge is worth what I'll learn in return."
4) Fogcloud looked surprised. "I know the other warriors don't think much of me." They murmured. "But I did learn the ways of a warrior and I do know how to fight. I just don't like using my claws unless absolutely necessary." They dipped their head. "Acting in defence of myself or those weaker would be one of those times, I suppose. I'd be capable of that." Their dilute tortoiseshell markings lit up as sunlight cut through the gloom. "It's up to you whether you'll have me." They meowed, waving a tail in an odd sort of farewell. Then they paused. "But... if you think this path is not for me, can I at least continue coming to visit? I enjoy it here." Then, once they had their answer, they disappeared off into the camp.

Name: Poppypaw Age: 10 Moons Rank: Apprentice Bio+Rp Ex: Example thread with Bio linkInteractive Threads: Change of Pace (It's a new thread that's still open and active.) and Wonderland Explorer (thread still open and active) Questions and Answers QuizQUESTION- 1) A medicine cat tends to the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the clan. You are faced with a cat suffering from a severe panic attack with whom herbs have had no effect. What do you do?
Poppypaw's features morphed into something thoughtful as she sat straight and alert in front of Dewfrost. Eyes staring around the Medicine Den as if searching for something before turning to look back at the medicine cat and opened her mouth to speak.
"To deal with a panic attack that herbs cannot fix? Well, the first thing is to make sure NOT to end up speaking directly about the issue that makes the cat has said panic attack. Before talking about what's bothering them to make make sure their panic doesn't get worse and they pass out is to get them a distraction. Give them something to think about other than their issue to get their mind calmed down and focused instead of thinking solely on their panic attack. A good way to do that is find to ground themselves to reality instead of inside their heads. So, have them find 5 things they can see, 4 things they can touch, 3 things they can hear, 2 things they can smell, and 1 thing they can taste. Once they are focused and calmed down enough I'd think the next thing to be able to do is make sure they are comfortable in their surroundings. Maybe have them follow you somewhere where they feel safer and away from prying ears and eyes. Make sure you yourself as calm and do not give off any sign that they can pick up on to make them feel as if you are judging them or are against them. And the last step, I'd think would be to let them speak to you at their own pace about what they are having a panic attack over. Let them talk, vent, or even if needed cry about whatever it is that got them in a panic bind. Do not speak until they are finished so that they know you are giving them your undivided attention." she looked with a small smile.
"At least, that's what I do when I have a panic attack. I'm young so I only go off of what I'd like to have happened to me if I was in that situation you know? Understanding doesn't always actually mean having to go through whatever they are. Sometimes simply being in another's presence that can help calm another and have them know they are safe can do wonders for a panic attack. No one will calm down if they don't feel safe and secure with whoever is around them." she said
QUESTION- 2) Why do you want to become a medicine cat? [Please give me more than 'I want to help others, I want to be of use'
This was a question that Poppypaw knew was coming and she had thought about it long and hard. So she was ready to answer the question. Giving a small smile that held a bit of sadness in it she replied to Dewfrost's question as calmly as she could without seeming like a sap.
"I want to become a medicine cat because I believe a medicine cat's job isn't just about healing others with herbs. It's not just their job to heal others with herbs but it's also their job to be able to heal the spirit of a clanmate. To be their support and be the neutral ground that is needed within the clan. Of course, you are able to still do that as a warrior but not to the same extend. Not only are they the support of the clan but they are also the ambassadors of Starclan. They help keep the clan is balance both body and mind. Not only that but although I'm adventurous and maybe a bit too outspoken with a stubborn and ambitious side I love my clan and I want to be of use to them. Plus, herbology is a rather interesting topic to work with. I want to be a medicine cat because I feel that I'd be good at it and be able to make a difference for the clan and its future generations. I've been a lot more mature than most kits growing up. I'm a seeker of knowledge and have a need to be useful for the clan anyway I can." she said firmly.
QUESTION- 3) Your training will be coming from medicine cats from other clans that are friends with Dewfrost. While maintaining neutrality as a medicine cat you also have to deal with the political movements between the clan. With the herb-ban in RC territory in place how do you plan to handle this?
Poppypaw thought over the question rather carefully; this was a diplomatic question on how she would react and what actions she should take under the current situations of events. Frowning slightly thinking it would be a bit harder to answer the question a bit she turned to look towards Dewfrost as she replied.
"Even as a medicine cat; to teach and to practice safety precautions to avoid injury and infection would have to be put into immediate action. With a herb-ban in Rainclan we are limited. But that doesn't mean it's not doable. This is something that we as medicine cats have to expect and be prepared for especially with Leaf-Bare and Leaf-Fall when herbs are not growing. Anyways, I believe that as a medicine cat we are not only supposed to be watching out for our own but we have a duty to keep the peace with the other clans. Some rules I believe are meant to be broken when it comes to the greater good of all. If other clans are in need of herbs I feel it is our duty to oblige depending on what it would be used for; that way. The other clan that we helped will owe us a favor or even become good terms with our clan. Of course, they wouldn't be allowed to pick herbs in our territory. We would do that for them or at least supervise to make sure they do not pick too much. In the case of us having some in-store during times of lack of growth of herbs such as Leaf-Bare or Leaf-Fall I believe again, we are meant to help others even if they are not of our own kind. It would depend on what it is used for and how much. At the end of the day, our loyalty is of course to our clan. But we as Medicine cats must keep the moral code to help others when in need. It's a diplomatic move because then the other clan will either be indebted to us or we gain an ally in the process." she explained thinking more about it the more she talked.
She hoped it didn't sound like she was bowing down to other clans. She knew as a medicine cat she'd have to make the right choice but the code of a medicine cat would be to help others wasn't it? Loyalty to a clan did not solely mean to keep out of the way of the other clans if they were needing help.
QUESTION- 4) Even medicine cats have to be able to defend themselves. Even if you don't like violence you must defend yourself from an attack. Are you willing to learn both the duties and skills of the medicine cats and the ways of a warrior?
That question made her laugh a little and she nodded eagerly. "Of course I'm willing to learn to defend myself! I have too much high energy not to be able to train to be able to defend myself. I'd love of course to put my mind to more work as well with learning herbology and medicine cat techniques but I'm an active and high-energy cat who will most likely be going out of my way anyways to do something of activity to keep myself in shape. Of course, I will be more than willing to train more. A sound body and sound mind go paw in paw to keep a healthy lifestyle. Besides, you'll need energy to be able to stay up late to take care of patients or keep up with the kits if they ever get sick or injured. Mental and physical strength is needed too so training well to be able to gain muscles to help defend if ever attacked would be a good choice. Every cat should need to know that; Medicine cats aren't excluded from that." she nodded. To have a medicine cat know how to help defend is crucial to a clan or else the patients would die and so would the medicine cat themselves leaving the clan without a healer and from there the clan would fall apart.
