Leaf-fall OTS Nominations
CHARACTER OF THE SEASON
Thank you to everybody who submitted suggestions for character of the season! For anybody here that is new, this particular reward is for any character that stuck with or made an impression on anybody. It's a great way to acknowledge people for their creativity and writing! And who doesn't love a bit of acknowledgement and appreciation? Thank you all for making such fun characters for Fate!
BATEAR
For being an absolute golden child to Kindleflare, and being so accepting. She’s kind, caring, but fierce in her heart, and she makes both me and Kindleflare so freaking happy. And all that angel wants in return is happiness too. How could you NOT love her??
BIRDSTAR
Birdstar became leader in a very unexpected way, but I think we can all agree that he has exceeded all expectations. Good, laid-back and kind, Birdstar's approach to leading his Clan has been a fresh new take on leadership that has brought many interesting plot ideas into fruition, and we're delighted he was chosen to helm StoneClan!
I really like how Kara has worked with him. He's a unique leader, even going so far as to exclude sleeping in the solitary Leader's den and staying with his warriors.
BRIGHTPAW
Starting a petition to change Brightpaw's name to Bestpaw brb. Okay in all seriousness, Brightpaw lives up to his name in every possible way; his excitement for life and his innocence make him a shining light in LightningClan. He is eager to learn and simply do his best, with a friendly demeanor that cats like Graypaw and Foxswipe can attest to. He must be protected at all costs. If anything happens to this boy I will destroy everything.
CLOVERMASK
Smooth, intelligent, sociopathic. Kat's Clovermask has managed to send a genuine thrill of apprehension through us quite a few times. The newly named deputy of NightClan has a psyche that is eerily convincing. Her obsession with Shrikesong was chilling, her kidnapping of the kits whose mother she murdered genuinely disturbing. We can't wait to see what Clovermask gets up to next.
ECHO IN STORM-DARK SKY
Do not be fooled by the innocent 'blep' in the photograph. Echo's total lack of empathy for anyone around him makes him a unique character to read about. He is not intentionally cruel or sadistic or anything of the sort, but the way he looks at others as objects, trophies or simply background decoration is so shocking. Nix did a brilliant job with him.
GRAYPAW
Graypaw is the trusting, friendly little daughter of Shrikesong and Darkstone. With Pumastar as her mentor, she has a fierce legacy to uphold. Excitable, hard-working and overall lovely, posts with Graypaw are always fun to read. Her recent interactions with Clovermask at the gathering have set up a very interesting plotline that I'm sure we'll all be eagerly reading.
LIONSTAR
I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we will deeply miss Lionstar. This year he left us forever, after eight amazing years of making Fate a brighter place. Compassionate, good, honourable, Lionstar was one of the best leaders Fate ever had. He died the way he lived, protecting his clanmates and putting others above himself. He was old, but he sure gave that lynx Demon one hell of a beating!
OWLSTAR
LightningClan's new general is a strategist by nature. Wily, intelligent and level-headed, she is an excellent candidate for character of the season. She plans every pawstep ahead of her, and it is very interesting to watch other characters feel either threatened or impressed by her intellect. She comes up with very engaging training exercises that I'm sure apprentices and warriors alike enjoy participating in.
PUMASTAR
The new leader of TreeClan so far has been such a juxtaposition to Lionstar. Every action Pumastar makes is weighed out carefully, and he is not afraid to push back against the traditions of warriors past. He secretly hasn't even been granted nine lives due to his lack of belief in StarClan. What path lies ahead for TreeClan? We will see. Thanks, Jet, for creating such an interesting character!
ROSE WITH CRIMSON PETALS
Rose is a joy to read. She thinks very little of anyone else, but doesn't give it away. There's something really great about Rose thinking things like, "What an idiot, it would be great if he rolled off a cliff" and turning around and showering said cat with compliments and adoration. She is sophisticated, manipulative and so, so condescending. But hey, you can't have your stories without its antagonists.
RUSTPAW
Rustpaw's anxiety resonates so much with many of us who experience intense worry. Abyss has done such a fantastic job of creating a character that is intelligent and kind, but still struggles with self-doubt. She second-guesses herself even when she is spot-on. We will all look forward to watching her growth as a medicine cat! I hope that her successes in healing will build her self-confidence. She deserves it!
SHRIKESONG
Shrikesong wants nothing more than to protect her family. Her relationship with Darkstone is so well-developed and enjoyable, even though it was constructed from scratch rather than roleplayed out on the site! Her character has so much depth that I return to her application now and then to re-read it and enjoy. Fantastic job, Nix.
SNARL OF BLACK HOUND
Fox's death haunts Hound, a dark shadow looming over the ostracized tom's head. Though he was found "not guilty" for the Fox's tragic plummet down the mountainside, there is still a sense that he is being punished for what happened. There are cats among the Tribe who look upon him as a murderer, causing him to withdraw from his clanmates. It will be interesting to see where Hound's paws will lead him now, and if he can ever escape the shadow of his past and build a brighter future in the Tribe.
STRUT OF RING-NECKED ROOSTER
Rooster's posts genuinely cheer me up with how funny they are. He can be such a total goofball, but the loyalty and love he has for other cats win you over. He's that kind of cat your character rolls their eyes at but loves anyway. He livens up the Tribe with his crowing and I hope he has many fun moons ahead of him!
